  • With the engine and drivetrain pulled from The Rust Buckit, @thenotorious_a_r_t has torn it all apart and started creating a hideous monster! 97 Impreza at its heart, with 98 Legacy, 20 STI, 02 WRX, 94 WRX and aftermarket/modified parts bolted-on, it'll take more than a hit of lightning to make this thing come to life!
    Elsewhere, @corymezzenga, @cheeri.ope and @consciousclint get to work prepping the chassis for rust removal and bodywork so that we can hit our build deadline. Check out this latest episode to see it all unfold!

    thats nuts. I like that you slapped dohc heads on a sohc shotblock. I also like the Jdm has NO TGVs and is a uni body! if you have clearance with that Id say put phonelic spacers on the intake manifold. Awesome stuff cant wait to hear it RUN, BRAP BRAT! WHEN IN DOUBT FLAT OUT!

      Love the excitement, thanks Christo!! Exactly right, I did put on the GrimmSpeed 8mm Phenolic Spacers for clearance AND will be going to a parallel/soft fuel lines for even more clearance.

    Any chance of doing a good fitment review of the widebody kit and the amount of work it took to install/make fit

      It's possible. We haven't really gotten to that final fitment point yet so we should cover that in an episode.

    Fun build… Are you planning to leave the bottom end as is? Is this going to be a street car?

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  Год назад

      Thanks!! We are, just in the spirit of keeping it a cheap/grassroots build. This will be a fun winter beater/racer car, then eventually when the engine goes we'll think about throwing something more official in!

    The real pain is the blow by port under the turbo on the block. It sucks unless you get a turbo port that’s angled

  • @HeidiFegles
    @HeidiFegles 11 месяцев назад

    I built one of these 1997 have solid lifters and. Can be modified into ej 20k heads very easily the ports are already their with the exact same casting. I had a vf39 with 550 cc injectors and ported throttle body to stock sti size 64mm I think put a ej257 block on it and made 346 wheel hp with 376 wheel torque. 444 gears and it’s the shit, but it threw a rod out the top of the block. And is no longer with us. Salute dead ej. But I put a new one in and rally on haha

  • @buco4316
    @buco4316 Год назад +1

    JDM turbo short block is like 500-1000 bucks! Why risk it with NA block? Won't this blow up the moment it gets some boost?

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  Год назад

      You gotta remember that WHOLE build budget is $5k, so a thousand bucks will sink us! These 2.2 blocks handle low boost really well actually and if we blow it up, THAT'S the excuse to throw something strong in.

    Take a hammer to the oil pan it fits trust me. I put stainless headers on mine and hit the oil pan a few times for clearance and no issues

    Seems like a lot of work when you could just put a complete EJ25 into it... What's the advantage of this?

    • @marcushunt2570
      @marcushunt2570 Год назад +2

      Budget build. All cheap stuff and ej22e is a super reliable short block.

    • @GrimmSpeed
      @GrimmSpeed  Год назад +1

      Marcus has it right, those 2.2 blocks can handle a low amount of boost, but above all it's meant just to be a fun/cheap/experimental build!

      Surprisingly intact compared to the rust on the rest of the car. We've been really fortunate that the vital parts (towers, underbody/frame) are still really solid on this one!

    Sadly to say, this is how the engine I bought that was supposed to be good for $3,600 looked. Every bolt kept breaking off or just wouldn't come out so I tried to send it back to the guy and he didn't respond so PayPal just gave me the money back after a month.

    • @GrimmSpeed

      @@GrimmSpeed I was lucky to get the money back, sell the junk to someone else, then have a mechanic back home get it done for $4,200 instead of the 11k subaru wanted. They wanted more than I paid for my 2011 wrx

    Very COoL. You guys R the "Subaru Whisperers" BTW, nice "post edits". GR8T production value. Mr.DeMille would be pleased. p.s. I've worked in and around shops (mainly body shops) for some years and I always thought it would be a boon to increasing productivity is to (and this would be expensive) apply sound deadining on walls and the ceiling. That die-grinder, hammering etc (and especially air-chisles - Ouch!) really beats the heck out of one's body, mental state and sole. Even with ear plugs. The echoing is relentless. So instead of the owner getting a new Vet at the end of the year, s/he spends it on the employees mental health. Ok, just a thought. Of course that didn't co$t me anything to suggest Cheers from So.Ca.USA 3rd House On the Left (but call before showing up:)
