"Here's a quick introduction to the original "Sleeping Stars" demo, which was written and recorded around 1995-96. I think this song opened Wintersun's "debut album style/direction" for me, as it was the very first song I wrote for the debut album. The original demo version is shorter than the album version. Later, around 2002-2003, I wrote the bridge part that is on the debut album. So you could say this song was "asleep" for many years until I finished it." - Jari

What amp/tone did you use for the demos?
The band was coming to town for a concert in Houston 2013. I hadn't heard of them so I decided to listen to a song to decide if I was going to go. Sleeping Stars was that song. I didn't even finish it and immediately bought my ticket to see them live. I've been listening to Wintersun on repeat since then.

Jari, you played the whole Time package campaign so well. Those early demos with backstories are amazing! I feel like as if I had been accompanying you through your musical journey. I never took part in hateful comment through last years. I was only worried that Wintersun is slowly falling apart and the money gathered in the last campaign went into the void. I remember when I listened the debut album the first time 13 years ago. This was the song which sold me for Wintersun. I was like "this is the kind of music I would do if I could".

This is sick. I'm stoked to hear this demo. This song is, very fittingly, a sleeper hit for me. I've listened to the debut Wintersun album A LOT since 2013 when I started getting into heavy metal and found out about this band, and I love that album. But I didn't realize how amazing this song is until I saw them play it live during the Forest Seasons tour. I knew that I liked the song, I'd been listening to it for years, but that night I was like damn, I've been sleeping on Sleeping Stars. That was the highlight of the show for me and since then it might be my favorite Wintersun song... hard to choose a favorite though, the competition is tight.

gods sleeping stars will forever be my favorite wintersun song. i cannot fully exlpain it either just that it hits me everytime in every inch of my body when that melody at 0:54 kicks in. jari truly thank you for creating especially this song i truly am grateful

When I first heard this song, I had been smoking some weed, and I remember writing in a notebook that this song made me think of some kind of Japanese brothel.
Jari, could you tell how some songs passed the cut to be on the first Wintersun album, like this one, and not others ? Now, with some step back, would you have changed the selection and added others ?

Sounds very good and nostalgic. It has that same sound like the Death and the Healing demo. I have though another request. Would it be possible to know, when the vocals for Time I and II were recorded? We know that drums and bass and melody guitars were recorded in 2006-07, rhythm guitars in 2011, and synths between 08 and 11, but what about the vocals? I used to follow the wintermadnessforum and once in while, there were updates on songs from 2008, where you said that some of the vocals were not done yet. I would be really curious, from when the vocals are on The way of the Fire for example, or One with the Shadows, as they sound pretty "old", in a good way.
The vocals for TIME II were recorded mostly from 2006 to 2011. However, most of the recording sessions in 2006 and 2007 involved only guitar recordings (and a lot of gear problems), and therefore, the majority of the vocals, about 90%, were recorded between 2008 and 2011 (most of this period was making the orchestrations, though). If I remember right, it is possible that I still re-recorded a few parts for "Silver Leaves" somewhere around 2012 - 2014 (but only like 1%).
@@WintersunJari Wow, that's actually fascinating, because when we hear, for example, The Way of the Fire, it's like time travel, because the drums, bass, guitars were recorded in 2006, orchestrations between 08-11, vocals like you said 2006-11, so pretty much every instrument, was recorded in a different era and stage of life, and not all in a matter of weeks or months, like on most albums, like the Forest Seasons. That's very interesting actually if you think about it!
