I was lucky. About the time I got curious about Lindy I was going into my first year of college and wouldn't you know it there was a ballroom/swing dance club on campus. No experience necessary! It's not all Lindy but at least I can learn some. And frankly Latin and European ballroom are fun too
I am 77 years old and did dance at every chance I had. Grab a partner and lets go. I even won a couple of contest. I still sit here and can't sit still
75 here and I know what you mean when you say, I can't sit still. Neither can I, its in my blood have been dancing this way for over 60 years and have loved every moment of it! I and the wife go to a swing dance club here in Reno, Nevada, every sat nite and dance for about 6 hours straight with a few breaks thrown in as we are older than when we started. LOL its sure a hell of a lot of fun!!
I love how even though it's a competition, you can see that everyone is having so much fun, even just by watching the other competents. It's just that kind of music and dance that brings happiness.
***** Je crois que tu as mal compris, il dit +/- "Quelqu'un qui peut dancer comme ça a tout mon respect" By the way, that's just brilliant and they seem to have so much fun :)
Eva Smiljanic I mean the extreme joy in observing is crazy, can't imagine how joyful it is to actually dance it. In my to-do list for me to learn Lindyhop or swing
Eva Smiljanic I have only embodied the musical part - so jazz, swing and other music like this has always been a joy to listen to. Sadly I don't know why I never actually did the dancing, maybe because you would sadly be seen as an outsider in school in today's society. Now that I am older and in my 20s I am definitely considering learning it tho!
You definitely should! I've started taking classes a couple months ago and it's amazing! The community is awesome and the dance itself is really fun and energetic. Whenever I go dancing it's always the highlight of my week and it never fails to bring a smile to my face.
I can't dance at all and I know nothing about dancing but I got so much enjoyment watching it, I think I've got two left feet but I'd love to try it, it looks incredible
+Keenan “Redd” Kok-Carlson It's not as hard as you think. What you see above are mostly just alterations of the basic steps. You'll be able to get the basics down in one lesson. From there on, it's a matter of learning to lead the girl into the steps while keeping time to the beat yourself. When you're comfortable with that, THEN you can add styling and more exotic steps yourself. Take a lesson at a local adult night class, most high schools have them at night. The biggest hurdle is getting started, and trying not to feel stupid. Remember, everyone had to be a beginner. The most important thing is, IT'S FUN!
+Evija3000 Trust me you have the time. You just don't value learning Swing as much as something else. Possibly watching RUclips videos? Find a class and commit an hour or two a week, Magically you will be the same amount of busy, and yet learning swing at the same time.
Wirelesstaco I get what you mean, but you can't exactly judge my situation well if you don't know it. I have a full time job and I study at a university. Plus I volunteer in church. I guess I do value some things more, but I think it's for a reason. When I finish Uni I'll take up a couple of more serious hobbies. Most likely guitar lessons and dancing. :) Plus it would be way better if I had a guy to invite to come with me. Reciting the steps on my own with some women would feel a bit lame compared to this...
+Evija3000 True, I don't know your situation and can't accurately assess it. I do know that I have had things I've wanted to learn/do that always seem to be one year away but when that year comes something else pushes it back again. I've finally found that practicing/ going to an event whenever I can tends to magically open up more time in my schedule. At first it might just be one time every month or so, but as you become more comfortable doing something the amount of energy it takes for you to go and do it is less and all of a sudden there is more time available for it. Look into your university to see if they have a Swing dance club I know a lot have them. Whats nice about classes is that a lot of them tend to rotate partners every 5 or 10 min so even if you don't have someone to go with you its OK! Swing events are also a great Social gathering and most dances I've been to people will dance with someone for one or two songs then find a new partner.(Unless of course they came with their own). I guess all I'm saying is although you may not be able to practice at the level you want to because of your schedule don't let it stop you from trying at all. Best of luck with your studies and everything you are working towards.
Such a great video! I was literally smiling throughout the whole thing. It was amazing to see everyone having such a great time, having fun and giving out such a wonderful vibe. I felt as if I was there in person, clapping along and cheering on every single one of them. So beautiful!

i had an idea for a prank/flash mob, what if they all dress up full-swag and go to an event filled with really old people. Everything would seem casual and while pretending to be strangers to one another they would start a dance-off as soon as the music play. I wonder what the old people's reaction would be... how would they react to something so familiar yet so out of time?
I've actually seen something a bit like that done some years ago, and (predictably) the old people adored it. You're absolutely right, it is a lovely idea.
I am afraid I and the Wife would have beat you to it, there was a clothing store in Reno, on Virginia street that was playing Boogie Woogie on there store speaker system. The Wife grabbed me and said hit it baby, and away we went, they actually cleared a space for us and we danced for about an hour, had a good sized crowd when we quit!!

twitchascension That is interesting twitch, well, it sure ain't anything like twerking. Sure its classy because people who do old styles of dance are in a way sophisticated, but that is just superficial to me. I see it as classy because it is a true art form that can express deep emotions.
***** I think the way we view things is interesting. With this, when it first started white people wouldn't be caught dead doing it. It started in Harlem, and was considered pretty racy at the time (remember it was like the 30s). I think it's funny that it's "sophisticated" simply because it's older. :p
If you want to learn this dance, please go to reddit and /r/swingdancing and ask where you can learn and tell us where you live! We will try to help connect you with local Lindy hop instructors. Anyone can learn this dance, and there are plenty of people that would love to teach you. If you live in the south east of the U.S., I can direct you to almost every Lindy group there.
Try it anyways! With the right teacher and the right attitude, you'll do it. Not this good, maybe (this good is really, really good) but still well enough to have loads of fun. I started dancing lindy around half a year ago. The first time I went to a party, I was asked to dance by a very experienced leader and I made a mistake in the first 10 seconds (of course). He stopped dancing, looked at me super seriously and said "don't EVER apologise. There are no mistakes in lindy. Smile all the time. Dance on. And that's it." He grabbed me again and I've been having a load of fun with every single dance since then.

I wish we would of continued dancing 💃 this way. Dance it all!! I’m so glad my mom had a record collection of all of these and trusted me not to put any scratches on them.
I love the part at the end when they're all dancing together, its almost surreal knowing that people once used to gather big groups to do this for fun instead of a competition. Now its both for fun and competition :)
When the third couple came on I was like “that dude’s huge! How is he gonna jump around fast enough to get the judge’s attention??” And then he threw his partner through her own leg and I was like oh, that’s how
Sure does! I am 75 and my wife is 63, we both are strong and trim because we have danced this type of dance for over forty years together!! It will keep you young at heart too!!
+brainsick213 Take a class and see. The guys are always way outnumbered by the girls. it's an easy way to be more attractive to girls. Once the word gets around that you're a good dancer, the girls will come to you. Most high schools have adult classes in swing dance in the evenings during the week.
+Liz Ariana Nighttime adult swing classes are usualy available in local high schools, and most often, cheap. Often taught by professional teachers from local dancing schools, too, to get people started. Do it!
@ Lizziy Ari, also Google Swing Dance or Lindy hop groups in your area, I would be surprised if there was not at least one, close to you, they are all over the U.S.A., France, Germany Sweden etc etc. We have a club in Reno, that I and the wife attend.
Some real talent there, but I wonder what it is about this style from the 1920s that attracts all these young people to it when there are so many modern physical styles?
I love the 20's and 30's era, from the pin up look, to the shoes, dresses, hair styles, the class of many individuals of different races, the dance style that had all races doing the popular moves, the dapperness of men, the flapper dress girls to the cigarette girls, Hollywood royalty where you had to be a triple threat and all sizes and shapes of women were beautiful. Besides the stock market crashing, great depression, wars I believe this era had a lot of beauty in it. Just like I'm also obsessed with the Egyptian era, the Greek era , because of the same thing. There's always something beautiful about our past and the appreciation of things that some people in my generation will never acknowledge or understand
I think part of it is the "social dance" aspect. Most swing and blues events expect you to change partners in between songs and discourage creepiness, so it's a good way to get your groove on in a friendly/low-pressure setting. Plus dances like these (specifically the lindy) have a lot of momentum, it's kind of like an amusement park ride once you get going.
i think because those dance are like ballroom dance when you can dance fast and still be sexy and so. also 1930. wearing something short was like a revolution in women fashion and a short skirt becomes an iconic style and part that cant be change in lindy hop dancing. srry for bad english btw
Dance. Always dance. Never look back and wish you had danced more. All of these people will live longer and happier because they dance every time they had the chance. 💫💫💫💫👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥰💕🥰💕🥰🇨🇦

When the third couple came on I was like “that dude’s huge! How is he gonna jump around fast enough to get the judge’s attention??” And then he threw his partner through her own leg and I was like oh, that’s how
Awesome dancers, and the video was outstanding!!
Every one was just amazing ...
wonderful ...
I come back to this video time and again, just to get re-inspired.
It keeps your heart rate up & trim and slim, enough exercise for a week
Sure does! I am 75 and my wife is 63, we both are strong and trim because we have danced this type of dance for over forty years together!! It will keep you young at heart too!!
I love how everyone has a smile on their faces.
Awesome video. And I love the music as well.
Damn that looks fun.
+brainsick213 Take a class and see. The guys are always way outnumbered by the girls. it's an easy way to be more attractive to girls. Once the word gets around that you're a good dancer, the girls will come to you. Most high schools have adult classes in swing dance in the evenings during the week.
Other dancers had flashier tricks, but Remi and Moe brought a colossal energy
They're my favorite dancers here by far
I want to learn how to dance swing sooooo freaking bad. GOAL!
+Liz Ariana Nighttime adult swing classes are usualy available in local high schools, and most often, cheap. Often taught by professional teachers from local dancing schools, too, to get people started. Do it!
D.E.B. B - thank you!!! I'm going to look into that. For sure!!
@ Lizziy Ari, also Google Swing Dance or Lindy hop groups in your area, I would be surprised if there was not at least one, close to you, they are all over the U.S.A., France, Germany Sweden etc etc. We have a club in Reno, that I and the wife attend.
I've always wanted to learn this kind of dancing 😍😍😍
I wish parties were like this :(
Was so excited to see Nick Williams in this video!! he is a crazy good dancer and amazing lead!!!
Thank you Brittney!
Yes, I can appreciate that. Modern dance doesn't have that couples closeness.

I just found this. Absolutely love this. How fun.
ah just like the 1930s...such fun
could have done with less shiny undies though..
Dilan kandy I think those are dance shorts. It's so women can wear dresses and move around without constantly flashing you.
James Pack
really? i did not know that. why cant they wear those ballerina tights? there is something really artistic about the ballerina outfit.
i think because those dance are like ballroom dance when you can dance fast and still be sexy and so. also 1930. wearing something short was like a revolution in women fashion and a short skirt becomes an iconic style and part that cant be change in lindy hop dancing.
srry for bad english btw
Dilan kandy and ballerina tights....is for ballerina only. different kind of dance have their own dress code.
seriously in love with the dance and the music
i watch this to cheer myself up when im feeling bad
Dance. Always dance. Never look back and wish you had danced more. All of these people will live longer and happier because they dance every time they had the chance. 💫💫💫💫👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥰💕🥰💕🥰🇨🇦
puts a smile on my face =)
thanks so much for uploading this angle, for some reason it just seems more exciting!!!
Супер. Завидую от души. Молодцы. Так держать до 100 дет
Энерджайзеры, одним словом. Круто.
I started taking swing dancing lessons and stopped. I'm gonna start them up again. It's so much fun.
