The Lucid Air is a beautiful car, so in 2020 it wins the beauty contest against the 8 year old Tesla. But I remember how impressed I was when it was introduced in 2012. One of my gripes against Tesla these days is that they've been relying on the same styling themes since then. In my opinion, the Model 3 and the Model X don't wear the design nearly as well as the Model S. It's time to update that aging design. And while they're at it, they really should do a major upgrade to the interiors - all of which look really cheap to my eyes.

I love my 2020 Model X. I think the design is timeless. It’s very distinct and slick. When I see my wife drive it across the road, I’m always like nice car.
I think people are just used to seeing car manufacturers change body style every couple of years to distinguish models and sell new cars. That is simply part of the legacy automakers’ trick.
Tesla won’t change body style just to do it. They will do it for performance and aesthetics reasons.
In terms of the interior, it could always look more expensive. I would like diamonds and platinum plastered all over mine.
The white seat interior looks the most luxurious to me. I didn’t get it because of young seats. I don’t want to be cleaning seats every day.

...my Tesla Model 3 Performance is the best car I’ve ever owned...it’s unbelievably fast not that I race it , but it will blow the doors off any muscle car that you can hear from a mile away...the styling , imo, is great...and am very happy with fit and finish...I had a minor problem, and a service technician came to my home and fixed it...no more need for ‘stealerships’...I charge it about once or twice a week, and it’s range is absolutely fine with my needs...this need for a 400 mile range is something that is over hyped, as no one would ever run their distance down close to zero...the country wide Tesla charging network allows me even to consider a long trip...and it was affordable for my budget...with that said Lucid on paper can be a great car company...but how long will you start hearing instead of 2 years behind schedule, they will be 5 years delayed?...but they are no less than a decade behind Tesla in establishing a viable company that has the technology, the network, the factories, the scale, the international reach, the selection of vehicles extra businesses ( power wall, battery storage ) , and importantly the cache that Tesla already has developed...and while everyone is waiting for Lucid to start, Tesla will continue to improve in every fashion...so at the very best, imo, Lucid will be like a Lamborghini in a world of C8 Corvettes...a Company that caters to a very small demographic...while Tesla, VW (Audi), Volvo will produce the bulk of the world’s electric cars...on another note, you can bet there will be a stock play on this Company in the near future with profits generated every time there is a new management team put in place...I think that you just can’t compare a Model S engineer to a Visionary...

In late 2018 Lucid announced that it had reached agreement with Electrify America to use its charging network. What is not yet disclosed is whether Lucid is going to underwrite the cost in any way of using the EA network, which is usually pricier than Telsla's
While Tesla still has more charging stations in the U.S. than Electrify America, EA is catching up quickly . . . and currently has 350 kW chargers at many stations.

    • @Seehart
      @Seehart 4 года назад +3

@@blakespringpasturemortimer9168 that's maybe not good news. Electrify America is the result of the settlement against VW for their massive environmental fraud in the deiselgate scandal. As such it is compulsory, and we can expect VW to find ways to dirupt it's own efforts with regard to this network, much like GM's EV1. Whenever possible, actors that don't like the transition to electric will undermine their own apparent efforts in that direction, especially when these efforts are compulsory.
For example, if VW finds a way to greatly increase charging cost at EA stations, this would go a long way toward supporting the narrative that EVs are uneconomical.
EA has a certain degree of corporate autonomy, but there is no getting around the fact that they are a VW subsidiary.
Yes, I know, VW is developing their own line of EV "Tesla killers", but they are far from enthusiastic. At best they will try to sell enough for ZEV credits. At some point as the market transition gains momentum, VW will have to actually compete for market share. But in the mean time, the last thing VW want is to accelerate the transition to EVs.

I hope you’re choosing your electric car not thinking you’re saving the planet. An electric car is 60% efficient from battery to wheels while a gasoline car is only 20% efficient from tank to wheels. However, because the electric generation process is roughly 1/3 efficient (3 units of fuel to produce 1 unit of electricity), 1/3 of 60% = 20%. Its a wash if your fuel source is carbon based e.g. gas, coal, oil, which is still 80% of electric generation base fuel in the USA. Places where that % is lower have significant amounts of nuclear power, something the same people who hate carbon emissions have been afraid of for decades. So, don’t buy one because you think it will hold down the sea level - it won’t.

@@markodom3841 What about solar panels to charge your car..........

    • @markodom3841
      @markodom3841 4 года назад

@@kanedafx1 That's also a very interesting question that can also fool people. As an exception to my statements above, one could suggest, as I assume you are doing, that if someone had solar panels on their home where they charge their car, then their house and transporation would be fully green. Right? Not really and I'll tell you why if you care to read it through.
First, you charge your car usually at night when the "sun don't shine" as they say. But even if you had a very good set of panels (which I am very much in favor of by the way as I see solar panels as all gravy), such that they could produce more than enough to power your home during the day that they could also charge batteries in your home with the overage that could handle your electric needs overnight, then you could charge your car's battery overnight from them, right? Yes, but you would still have no net carbon reduction effect at all (which is what we're supposed to be achieving, right?).
The reason is that any excess electricity your solar panels produce, either directly or from your home storage batteries, is sold back to the utility that you're hooked up to by law and they have to buy that power back from you. The utility then uses the power you sold it to sell to someone else who does not have solar panels. GREAT! That means the utility can then throttle down its carbon fuel burning power plants in proportion to the amount of extra power your solar panels produce which reduces the amount of carbon emissions. That sounds great until you realize that if you now add electric car charging to the consumption of the solar energy your solar panels produce, then you now have that much LESS solar generated electricity to sell to the utility as your reserve will be reduced by the electric car power use. Thus, everythng else being equal, when what you sell the utility now is reduced because of your new electric car, then the utility has that much less to sell to third parties, meaning it now has to THROTTLE BACK UP its fossil burning power plant to meet the needs of those non solar customers. Therefore, the net effect of you buying and charging an electric car at home by your home solar panels is to cause your utility to burn more fossil fuel in its power plants to replace the extra electricity you would have provided but have now chosen to use yourself for your electric car. While your new electric car would now limit your DIRECT carbon emissions, it will at the same time have increased the INDIRECT solar emissions for the planet by causing someone else's footprint to go up by a like amount. Once again, its a wash.
This misleading scenario presents itself again when utilities, wanting to win public approval by bragging how much green power they are producing, announce that they are adding 2,000 megawatts of wind power to their system. GREAT again and everyone loves them for it, only to find out that they didn't actually build or install any new wind power, but went out and bought wind power from an existing wind farm in Oklahoma or Kansas somewhere and added it to their network to reduce the percentage of their fossil burning power plants. What they actually did was outbid other utilities for the power already coming from that existing wind farm so that they can now claim how much of their system is not fossil and make their customers think they can use virtually unlimited amounts of electricity, including adding electric cars, and won't be raising the sea levels. EXCEPT, that the other utilities who had previously purchased that same fixed amount of wind power now have to crank up their coal, lignite or gas power plants to replace that electricity production they were selling when they bought that same wind power. Do you now see that, unless they build new green sources of power generation, they are just like a dog chasing their tail, but which looks to the public like they're really going somewhere.
The oil companies, electric utilities, auto makers all are on board with perpetuating this fiction for public relations purposes and also they are willing to sell whatever the public demands, no matter how illogical it is. Oh, by the way, the same oil companies that won't be selling you that one unit of gasoline because you bought an electric car will be now be selling the three additional units of fossil fuels to your local utility to generate the electrictiy to charge your car's battery. They get paid either way. So, they're not about to correct anyone's misunderstandiing of what I'm talking about.
In short, unless and until the country has about 70% of its electricity generated by non fossil fuel sources, any added electric using devices, including automobiles, are necessarily using the 30% plus that's still fossil off the top. Last I looked, only about 20% of our electricity is generated from green sources. Only 1/2 of one percent (0.5%) of electricity is generated from solar power plants (not panels on buildings) and the estimates are that with the current aggressive rate of building new solar power plants of solar farms, that percentage will only be up to 11% by the year 2050. That's a whole extra generation of power plants that need to be built to carry us over to 2050 and we'll only be at 11% by then! Wind farms also have a limited amount of increase for the forseeable future as there are simply a limited number of practical places in the country for large scale wind energy production. In short, in the decades ahead while we move for green energy, we'll continue to need a large amount of fossil fuel burning power plants, and until we get to that 70% or higher level, electric cars will mostly be a wash. But they'll make a lot of money for Tesla and others electric car makers and make a lot of people think they are saving polar bears by driving them when they're not.
To all my friends anxious to buy electric cars, remember whart Mark Twain said: "It's not what you don't know that scares me, it's what you think you know that just ain't so."

Great video. But I have to laugh when you refer to the company that’s about to produce the Cyber Truck as conservative and playing it safe. The company that stripped the interior to just an iPad on the dash dispensing with everything else as conservative and playing it safe. Not an accurate assessment of Tesla. That said, I’d love for a good and proper competitor to Tesla. We the consumer win! As much as I want to buy a Tesla, there are things I don’t like about their cars that a competitor might offer or might force Tesla to rethink. As to which I’d buy, the Lucid looks better inside and out. But their software and charging network would have to be on par with Tesla for me to seriously consider them.

Tesla has raised the bar and there is such a thing as brand loyalty. Without Tesla there would be nothing for the wannabes to jump on. Past business performance gives me confidence and is a major factor when I am considering latest design capabilities. Past, present and future intentions are all important.

I'm a hard core motorhead and like my muscle cars. So looks are very important to me and I gotta say that Lucid Air has it all over Tesla. Will they continue to keep the stylish looks
on the cheaper models, I hope so. That to me is one of the drawbacks, some people don't mind what the car looks like it's just to get them around. I have a problem with that driving
around in a geek car just don't cut it and this is the first electric car I have to say is spot on as far as looks. Will it hold up for some trouble free years? The charging thing is the other
question in my mind, what good are all these electric cars with no charging stations. And the other question in my mind is when you are charging up on the side of the road or where ever
seems to me your car is very vulnerable to people screwing with your charging cable or purposely shorting it out after all when charging who wants to baby-sit their car. Still very
apprehensive about all electric cars with all the bugs that has to be overcome. But this Lucid is one sharp looking car that's for sure.

Lucid Air has received an official EPA range rating which will be announced August 11. A teaser video Lucid posted yesterday suggests the range is at least 442 miles. People will be quick to compare this to the Tesla Model S rating of 402 miles. Remember, however, that the 402 miles is for the "Long Range" Model S. The "Performance" Model S still has an EPA range of 348 miles . . . and the Lucid Air has the performance specs of the Performance Model S, not the Long Range Model S.
Lucid attained its range with a 110-kWh battery pack, while Tesla still uses a 100-kWh pack. So the relevant comparison is not the actual range, but the efficiency metric of miles/kWh. The Lucid Air comes in at 4.0 miles/kWh. The Performance Model S comes in at 3.48. Thus the Lucid Air's drivetrain is about 15% more efficient than the equivalent Tesla's drivetrain.

The big question is whether they have enough funding to be able to catch up with Tesla at this point in time because that is going to be expensive. Tesla has a strong lead in many areas but I don't believe they are immune to competition. Personally I'm already considering soon to be launched competitor models like Volvo XC40 Recharge and Opel Mokka-e as cheaper alternatives to a Model Y for example.

If Lucid would simultaneously work on a fix for a gaping market need..... an all-electric refit of the Mercedes Sprinters 2007-2020...
    1. Take out the V6 engine-drivetrain-axles... and all the horoible sensors that crap out, the emissions system, all the running gear
    2. Replace with a kitted up system..... and over following years, design a complete high-roof service van, or work with or without a partnership with Mercedes
Idea is sort of a pass-through system like Quiggly does for 4WD systems.
UPDATE TO MY COMMENT.... Mercedes is floating the concept van "ESprinter".... but the current design range is marginally usable at "UP TO" 150 Miles.... I will put that at 90 miles when considering use of Heat/AC, ancillary 115V power on service calls... 1800lbs of equipment and inventory.... 350 lbs of shelving and up-fitting in the back.

I do wonder how long motoring will be available to the masses.
Stricter emissions rules are ending city cars and other new cars becoming more expensive and complex through infotainment systems and electrification.
Where will the sub-£5k used car market be in 10 years time?
As for Lucid, Porsche, Audi et al, really expensive electric cars are great but affordable they are not. 400 mile range is just silly. I'd love to know who is doing London to Edinburgh non stop.

I live in south Florida, and it's 389 miles from my house just to the border of Georgia (the neighboring state). I also live in a fairly rural area and have a 40-mile round trip to doctors, many restaurants, and most friends' houses. My 2015 Tesla Model S has 257 miles of putative range (meaning highway range is significantly less.) I can't even get to Miami and back without recharging. Most EV's, including Lucid, have or are planning shorter-range, cheaper versions of their cars for people who don't need the higher battery capacity.
My brother has a Model 3 and lives in a condo in Atlanta. There are only two charging plugs for his large complex, and he cannot always find a free plug. So he needs as much range as possible just for daily local use due to not always being able to plug in when he arrives home.
What you call "just silly" might seem so in your circumstances . . . but you're not everyone.

Air is a great name for it. Lucid a tech sharing company. X pang is a tech sharing company. Tesla is a tech sharing company. The future is now "Electric" we cant compare any of these cars with ICE car of today. Driving any of them is better in every way. The big names of ICE age cars are shamed by these now available equivalent forms of transport. Cleaner, safer, faster, very low running, almost maintenance free, very long service life, Why would you buy anything else? The future is now.

The greater the range, the fewer charging stations are needed.
