Keep the rents high and the jobs scarce and low-paying, and this will only continue to snowball out of control.
🤷🏻
And keep the dope flowing!
Nobody who works in santa monica lives within 5 miles of it. I took my gf to santa Monica for sushi... *BIG MISTAKE* costed me around 120 bucks compared to our usual spots in downey which usually comes out to 40
Exactly
My rent for a studio was $2640 a month..it finally just became to much to know your paying that much and at the end you will still have nothing to show for it..Time to move.
Thanks to demonrats
3rd Street Promenade is a relic. A lost cause.
Lets the homeless go to melrose n rodeo lol
@World Traveler not at all lol I still see all kinds of people shopping in the foreign stores
Shoreline village is better.
Homeless have been there for years. Since the late 90’s
Thanks to demonrats
Lol not like this they haven’t. Look at the numbers. It’s much much worse than it was in the 90’s
@@ultramaga2398 this has literally nothing to do with Democrats you moron
Santa Monica's homeless count was even HIGHER in the 90's. I've seen the data.
No one in our state government wants to take responsibility for the homeless problem. I grew up in the Santa Monica area and the homeless have been there forever even when my brother went to SM high school, this pandemic just makes it worse.
I remember 30 years ago when Third Street and surrounding blocks were upscale and crowded on weekend nights with shoppers and movie goers.
No mention of General Secretary Newsom and the arbitrary restrictions he dictated?
The first time I went to the Promenade (back in 2003) it was awesome and very nice.
I took my daughter there when we visit the area back in 2015, the area was in decline and the problems mentioned in this article were small but visible.
Today I would not step foot in LA, it has become a third world encampment...
A security guards job is to observe and report, not making contact not kicking out anyone anywhere, plus getting paid minimum wage doesn't motivate me to deal with the mentally ill at all....
Sad but true
@@DaPanda19 guards need to get pay way better especially the arm guards
@Lauren Kush I worked in the security industry for 10 years, knew many people many companies never ever did I hear security guards going around killing or hurting homeless nonsense
@Lauren Kush put the kush dow for a minute
@Lauren Kush and I say that because ur mission the point in my comment completely
Facing???? That's part of the problem in liberal Santa Monica, they never faced it. Recall Newsom.
Exactly
Ya they should have a high enough TAX on airbnb to fix that problem...😉😉😉😉😉
What the F*** did trump ever do for these homeless people. It's NOT their fault. Not everyone can pay thousands of dollars for rent. 💯💯
Beautiful Southern California!
LOL
This actually started booming the homeless when they open the metro light rail. It basically brought the downtown homeless to Santa Monica
Has become a sewer because of progressives like Harris, Newsom, Garcetti, and Gascon. Good luck and avoid the syringes.
It is beautiful in Southern California where I live...
It IS! It’s the people that are the problem.
We’re giving away way too much money in foreign places, but our own yard is badly in need of aid and repairs.
Damn now that's crazy in santa monica I thought this was too expensive.
What do you expect from a place that sets aside a large portion of its rental units for Section 8 occupants? My ex-gf and I looked at an apartment on 4th Street nearly 20 years ago, and when I saw that its bulletin board had an announcement hanging from it regarding a meeting of the Section 8 tenants, I told the real estate agent that we were leaving. Thanks, but for the money you're better off in Westwood, Brentwood, BH, or even with the sodomites in West Hollywood. LA's goverment may be fucked up and filled with idiots, but it's nothing compared to Santa Monica.
3rd Street Promenade was the cool place to hang out in the 90s. Haven’t been there in 20 years.
People are not seeing the bigger picture. I agree there are some homeless with mental illness that should be helped, however, Los Angeles is making it so easy for people(addicts) to be homeless. They are giving them food, clothes, tents, restrooms, showers and even cell phones. Now there is talk about "housing" them but don't they see that the homeless population in LA doesn't just come from LA. A lot of places that don't have mental illness and drug addiction programs are given them one way tickets to come here for "help". The thing is (and I'm only talking about the drug addicts) that you cannot help out someone who isn't ready to help themselves and isn't ready to change. It also really annoys me when people say we should help the homeless yet those same people back out from those same views as soon as the homeless move into their neighborhood.
Its illegal to feed the homeless in SM they WILL give you a ticket. And why they built a tram going from downtown straight to the pier is beyond me..it costs $2 and the tourists and locals dont use it.You have the rich and then the poor..a few middle class..Having spoken to many homeless..some do drugs some just cant afford housing..
Call it for what it is demonrats that voted for china joe.
@@ultramaga2398 This has nothing to do with who we voted for as president. I am talking about California only. There is also nothing wrong with being a Democrat just like there is nothing wrong with being a Republican.
don't forget the free syringes they supply to the heroin addicts among the worst opiate pandemic. Guess the state of CA wants people to eliminate themselves through O.D.'s.
Why reward the drug addicted and dirty homeless from out of state the fruits of a lifetime of hard work and perseverance by giving them free rent and board in an upscale neighborhood? That’s not how the real world works.
Maybe they just lower rents then maybe everyone can afford to live
You let them move into your space for little rent
Why just Santa Monica? Let them all move in like they’ve let them in the rest of the areas👍
They should just turn one of those big empty parking garages into an emergency shelter. The Supreme Court said cities can’t take down homeless encampments without providing adequate shelter beds. If they convert just one parking space into a shelter and force all the homeless to go there and let it become a safe place with social services and mental illness services the police and city officials can and should legally move the homeless. If they refuse that’s when you can harass them. Some harassment is necessary some people need to be told what is and is not acceptable otherwise people do whatever they want at the expense of others.
California is a done deal.
Homeless lives in areas with easier access to food, hand out and shelter, so there are a lot them in beaches like New Port, Venice, Santa Monica and DT. You don’t see many in Lancaster or Rancho Cucamonga. It’s a supply and demand market and an outcome of of our V shape wealth distribution.
Austin, Portland, phoenix, Jacksonville, Albuquerque, and Denver also have a homeless crisis.
@@legendaryTMNICO And they keep the borders open still supporting these illegal residents, serving them, ect. and we still have this homeless mess in all our cities. Man, VOTE RED!

You have address the CAUSE! Not the symptoms. But first, we have to figure out what the cause is...

I know that area quite well and used to live in West LA. It's been a slow downhill slide for the past 20 years or so. My recollection was there were always a few bums and vagrants, but not close to what it's like now. Also, it was safer back then and the shops and restaurants were typically full. There were also many street performers. You could take a family there and generally feel safe. But now, I'd go elsewhere.
Blame Amazon.
Today is 01/06/23, how is it now?
I was just there last week. Its a ghosttown and just a dump. Just turn that place into a mixed retail and housing space.
How much time do you need??? The Promenade has always been riddled with homelessness. It’s gross
Instead of moaning about the homeless do something to help them get off the street.
The crack smoking homeless don't want services or shelters because they have rules.

It’s October 2021 and I just got back from down there. It’s still a homeless junkie/criminal cesspool. Things are so bad there that they have security guards posted up at the entrance of the public restrooms because there have been so many assaults and rapes within them. Million dollar homes on the beach yet it looks like a prison yard out there. The traffic was also ridiculous. A 19 minute drive took 2hrs. No accidents, just so cal drivers. Probably most aren’t even licensed and it shows. So glad I live in the foothills away from this states filthy cities. I cringe anytime I have to go to one.
I went for a late night walk with a girl through 3rd St. Promenade and its surrounding streets, and we were followed for blocks by two guys who had commented to each other that I looked like I, "had money," until I told them that to follow me was to do so at their own peril. I'm a big guy from Philly, and would have wound up stomping them out if need be, but for an older person or woman, the streets there are totally unsafe.

But that means the economy is good..
I don't shop 10 p.m. - 7 a.m. I still would not come. I would not open a store during a pandemic. It's good Santa Monica will house homeless. This may improve their mental health

The city should concentrate treating mentally ill homeless people and drug addicts. The authorities can enforce Health sanitation ordinances. The citizens must not tolerate the situation.

Question: Which political party is responsible for this?
One reason is alot of the people that vote, don't pay any taxes
SOLUTION: LEAVE CALIFORNIA
Looking into housing them In those vacant buildings. Wow. Never thought id hear that in santa monica. Good for them
Not good at all. These homeless people are not from Santa Monica. It is not the city’s responsibility. They need to be shooed out of the city.
@@glossygloss472 now about 72 maybe 75% of the homeless population in the state of California has come from other states that give them a one way ticket to be shipped to California this is the reason why you have so many homeless people here in the state of California.
@@garyquail2347 ...and California is sending people to Hawaii. I just got back from Waikiki and there were homeless people who were given plane tickets in order to leave CA.
It’d still be the same if no rehabilitation, they’d probably end up burning the entire building.
Santa Monica has always been generous and tolerant with the homeless. Ever since Martin Sheen was Mayor and declared SM a refuge for the homeless. What does it get them? More homeless. They will buy some buildings to house the homeless and this will get them more homeless. It is the same with our immigration policy. We treat illegal immigrants well. And even when we don't it is still better than they have at home. What does that get us? more illegal immigrants. We let the ones who come illegally better than the ones who come legally. They are given a notice to come back for processing and then released into the country. They get to jump the line. It's like going into a restraint where there is a waiting list and just sitting down at a table.
A person who did that would never get service but our government sends over a waiter to take his order. What does that get you? More illegal immigrants.

Customers are being scared away because of the homeless population? I'm sure they are but I would have thought Covid-19 was the biggest problem, for businesses. And that's why many businesses are doing bad and closing. It is no secret how expensive it is to run a business in areas such as Santa Monica. The economy certainly will be getting worse until people have spending money to keep businesses open and homelessness will inevitably increase. Vicious circle. 🤷🏻♀️
