I was wondering if a LOI like this that stresses on research, is it appropriate as an IM residency LOR?

One question: since we have signals, is it rational to send LOIs only to the programs you signaled?
Is it ok to mention about signalling in the LOI email?
Do gaps matter? For personal reasons like trravelling, career break?
Why would you send letter of interests if we have signals? I feel like it can definitely harm you if they find it desperate
There is a very high likelihood that it might not help, unlikely to hurt. But I had many get interviews after they sent those letters. It depends on the program and application.

An average program gets 1000+ LOI per week. There's really no point.
