I was born in (Serricella) Acri, Cosenza, Calabria, I now live in San Diego, California. We moved to the USA when I was 10. I can still speak Italian and remember the region that I grew up. The climate in Calabria is very similar to San Diego (sunny and warm) and it's very affordable. It's colder in the mountains and warm near the sea. I remember that it snows in the winter. I grew up in small mountains about 30 minutes from La Sila, I heard many great things about La Sila, mainly wolf stories. What I love about Calabria is that it has many spring water drinking fountains, such as a pipe inside a large rock with cold water coming out, how great is that! The reason why it's very affordable is that there's not much work, I remember that my dad worked outside of the area. If someone has a pension or work from home, it might be a good place to live. I recommend anyone that may want to move to Calabria, should take a trip and check out the area. The area is very scenic with many hills, many cities are located on top of hills. Hi there Calabrian!! Yes it is very similar to San Diego in terms of climate everything else is the exact opposite lol. I love living here and you are right the water here straight from the mountains is Amazing. If you find work online this place can be amazing although if I were poor I’d rather be poor here than out in California! Here you don’t need much. Good food some wine and all this beautiful nature. I moved to Calabria 26 years ago it was my dream to live here my town is 10 minutes away from the beach Ana 10 minutes away from the mountains. Everything lily said is true Calabria is amazing and the people are very friendly.

Absolutely! Calabria is very safe!! The most I hear about is petty car theft. No drug problems here, all immigrants who live here are very nice but most of them go north. I feel very safe here.
I would add that we have some beautiful "borghi" (the older villages on the mountains) that are a stones throw from the beach. Also, I would mention that the houses there, are even cheaper than what you would spend closer to the beach. By the way, if you ever want to visit Santa Caterina dello Ionio for your next youtube video, it would be my pleasure to show you around!
Yes we would love to come visit you!!! Since this lockdown I haven’t been able to travel around and make videos about the other amazing places here in Calabria but trust me I plan on showing it all. And yes the borghi are amazing and so much cheaper. But to live in Montepaone which has the best beaches and so so little is quite amazing especially for us Californians. I will stay in touch for sure and like I said would love to visit you

I retired to Pattaya Thailand 3 years ago. I love many things about living here. For some reason Calabria has me intrigued. My father was born in Gioiosa Ionica Italy and moved to America as a child. I would be entitled to my Italian citizenship. I have visited many times,Gioiosa wouldn't be for me but I love the Tropea area. I know I can buy a small house there for little money but I live comfortably on $1000 a month here in Thailand for two people. I paid 100k usd for my 3 bedroom house that was new. Just wondering how good could I live on my 2k usd retirement there in Calabria. Thank you for your videos
Ohhhh I love Thailand have been there many many times and often fantasize about moving there. I love the people and the food!!!! Calabria has amazing value similar to Thailand. For 100k you can easily find a great house and easily live off 1000 a month. The thing that I love about it is we are still super close to other big cities whereas in Thailand you are so far away. 2k here you live great like a kind here!! And the food is crazy good here. No pad Thai or green mango salads but the fish the pasta the wine!!! It’s great. But yes if I wasn’t here I’d be there. Maybe not pattaya but koh phangang or Krabi. I also love Bangkok but would never live there. Thailand is also where my heart is and I can’t wait to visit soon!
I love Tropea, I have holiday'd there for over 35 years. I have some great friends, friends that would do anything for me and it is so beautiful there.Hopefully return in October.

If you don’t speak Italian it may be hard. Also Calabrian employers are not exactly reliable nor do they pay much here. Best of luck!

@@CalabriaDreaming i work hard, fast, 12 hrs per day, as result i am divorced, stress and mortgage..so the life is one..less staff, less square meters for house, one car is enough to move..quality food, handcrafts work, walk through nature..small community..just give us back the sense of life

I gave birth here to an Italian baby so I got 5 years of what they call soggiorno and next year I can apply for citizenship. There are many ways you can stay here if you are looking to stay long term
But how easy is it to move there? I have a citizinship alredy but the work part is the one that seens to be the hardest to find information
Yes Calabria is very difficult to find info on which is why I created this channel. If you have citizenship then that’s awesome but I would only recommend moving here if you work from your computer or are independently wealthy. Calabria is not hiring!

Oh maybe I'm confused between Calabria and another area. There's an area in Italy where they pay 33k a year for you to live there (must be younger than 40)and some of the requirements are to either work at existing jobs there or for you to start a business there.

Yea but Calabria is not an easy place to move to and will spit those who aren’t meant to be here out in a second. Only tough independent people who truly know themselves make it here.
Realistic Reasons Not to Move to Calabria:
5) Calabria is very seismic. The Eurasion and African plate collides under the Tyrrhenian Sea and is in constant motion. Some of the worst earthquakes in history have been in Calabria.
4) Healthcare is in the toilet. Calabrian President Occhiuto has recruited CUBAN doctors recently to try to ease the situation of medical staff drain.
3) Italy is moving to the hard right politically. Immigration, legal or not, is likely to be heavily curtailed.
2) That laid back way of life? It means nothing gets done in a timely fashion.
AND THE NUMBER ONE REASON NOT TO MOVE TO CALABRIA: There aren't any jobs there. Even for the Italians!
You should DEFINITELY not move here!!

Greece has better beaches.
Not according to me!! Greece is beautiful that’s true but it’s touristy run down crowded or super hard to get to. Calabria has the cleanest most unspoiled beaches that are not run down with drunk English tourist and are very easy to get to. Have you been to Calabria? I’m ready to take the Pepsi challenge my friend and I’m sure Greece has nothing on us. Bye Calabria is old Ancient Greek land!!
