🇫🇮❤ The vocalist, Marco Hietala, said this about this song: “It’s a song about a universe, or actually a multiversal force, so grand, so majestic, that it actually binds and permeates everything. All of our lives are just tiny particles in this mighty flow. And then there’s this mere human vocalist, and his friend, a human being as well, has written a story. And we’re in this rock group trying to bring its unique loneliness across to other mere humans.”
This is a lovely song, but it really needs to be listed to within the album. It is the connection between the human and nature. At some point, I'm sure you will listen to the 2nd CD of this album, which is an orchestral masterpiece.
You are life.... right now but.... you can trace back life from you in an unbroken chain, controlled only by time... to the dust of stars which formed that first spark on this planet and ... if you so desire you can continue that endless line into time you will never see but it will.
Great reaction! There's a lovely cycle to Marko's time with the band, almost a temporal paradox. The first song on his first NW album is _Bless_ _the_ _Child,_ which includes the words "why has all the laughter ceased?" - a good description of how that journey ended. Meanwhile _Endlessness_ actually includes much hope - "come, here is life"; "someone in the tomorrow is waiting for me". And then they link: we have "unborn child await my touch" here, and "gone back in time to bless the child" there. The question is asked, "How can I ever feel again?", and happily we already know that Marko is doing better, his depression under control. We don't need an answer to the question that follows it. All the best from one thermodynamic miracle to another.
Another great reaction! One of my absolute favorites with Marko singing (While Your Lips are Still Red live is right up there). From the Human Nature album. Last song on disc 1, the Human part of the album. I love the dirge like, doomy feel of the instrumentation and Tuomas's lyrics are so poetic, thoughtful, and inspirational. I think you nailed the meaning of the song. Time is definitely a thief, stealing in every second, future possibilities based on our decisions. Tuomas is continuing his theme from the Endless Forms Most Beautiful album about the preciousness of life. We need to recognize that and live our lives in a meaningful way. To not do so is almost criminal. "The pain of the slow evil of an unsung life". Then at the end of our lives we should gratefully "join the silent flow" and follow death into the endless darkness to be born into something new. Who knows what that will be but it is a wonderful adventure! The song is a perfect ending to disc 1 and also very fitting that is the last song Marko recorded/performed with Nightwish before deciding to step back for his own mental health and happiness. Never performed live since he left the band before the pandemic ended and touring could begin again. Highly doubt it will ever be performed live because I can't imagine any one else singing it. Thank you for doing this. The song is hardly ever reacted to which is a shame because it is so beautiful. Thanks again.
Markos older band Tarot is amazing, the song Tides is epic His solostuff is amazing stones and star sand and shadow He did a song with the band Waltari, below zero
Life as a whole cycles, it never ends and that's what's her brought forward in an epic way! The musical composition is indeed majestic and complements the lyrics which maybe are a little difficult to understand but once you see they're meaning it's very clear! Nightwish is sublime but my opinion over this track is out of this world! What you said about "the thief" is indeed time, because every minute past in our lives are in fact stolen and once gone they're not recuperable, so you have to do things when you can, afterwards is too late! We come out of "nothing" and will undoubtlessly return to that state but life on itself continues forever in every which way possible. Nightwishes lyrics are allways poetical and therefore often not immediately recognizable, but after a few times listening to them they become clear and they're allways to the point...! And there's another side to this song also, wether true or not but it's circulating, and that goes like this, this song would be the goodbye of Marko (who sings) which was going soon after to leave the band after many, many years! So it is regarded as a sort of farewellsong for him and that sheds indeed a whole different light on the lyrics!
I'm beginning to love your existential approach of the music of Nightwish. This particular song is a part of the album Human Nature and you will find interweaven particals of the cadance puzzle your talking about in other songs of the album. It's not unconfortable to get surprised all the time. Thanks for your thoughts!
Well, this is sort of an atheist hymn. Death isn't the end of everything, but it's still the end of a person. Your *dust* will live on in others (bacteria and worms at first) and in turn give rise to new life (someone is waiting for your atoms in the tomorrow). There is a cycle of life, but not a recycling of persons. That's why the decades ahead of you matter.
The best song of the album! Sadly, it won't ever be played live. This is the only Nightwish song that is arguably doom metal, despite the oddly uplifting ending. It reminds me conceptually of the ending of the final novel of the science fiction tetralogy Cities in Flight by James Blish, where the protagonist basically sets the controls for the heart of the sun and restarts the universe.
Another banger song! I recommend strongly 'Tribal', 'Shoemaker', 'Dead Boy's Poem'... And go for it in French! ELYOSE - Vendredi noir ruclips.net/video/UHQPzSkUQWE/видео.html
This whole album has unusually melodies that are not easily singable for us mere mortals! We can blame Floor and the media for that as they all complained that Tuomas now had an incredible lead vocalist but hadn't challenged her enough, so, he said well hold my hat/beer or whatever else you might hand over before doing something insane! 🤣Symphonic Doom Metal? If you are up for another dose of this sort of music then Winter/Loneliness by Wintersun would be worth a listen.
For me: The endless death always lurking for every creature is the thief. The thief of each and everyone's life, the endless death: I'm the one you call the thief Universe, blank verse, crowded hearse I am a refuge by an invisible stream Death is always there in the background, walks with you and strikes when it doesn't suit you. Death interrupts and life abruptly aborts, which is why both the lyrics and the music hiccup. What remains is endlessness and the silent graveyard, endlessness. Endlessness and infinite emptiness. Within this, everyone who has lived and been there is important. In it, everyone who has lived and been there is important and everyone has contributed something, because without you things would have turned out differently than they did with you.
Nice "epic doom" metal track. If the upcoming album will be like this, I'll be pleasantly surprised. This song has never been and will never be performed live, because Marko is gone. Of course, Floor could sing this, but... oh, what am I even talking about? At this point we should consider ourselves lucky if we get to see Nightwish live at all.
@@johngillespie3409 That's why I put it in quotes. :) Of course, a trve d00m metal song can't be shorter than 10 minutes, and tempos faster than 1 BPM (beat per month) are not allowed.🤘
One of my favourite songs of that album. That is almost like a funeral song...
Yeahhh that doom metallic black sabbath vibe
Yes, pretty much for us all and our island earth. Intersteller dust returns to dust, with the potential spark for new life.
The most Finnish song of the album. Especially the melody at the end.
You will so love the composition of this whole album. It is bloody brilliant!!
This is an epic song
Human Nature is an epic album
Tribal is amazing
Time is the ultimate Thief.

Really like your analysis.
