Thank you to everyone who provided an explanation for the background of this song. I really do appreciate it and I apologize if my not knowing ruined the experience of any of you watching now. I might, in the future, do a rewatch with the appropriate information.
If there are any other songs that you believe I need backstory for, please let me know so I can take appropriate measures. In general, I want to react to things blind, so you get a genuine reaction. But I also don't want to be disrespectful.

I mean you don't know if you don't know.
Edgar Allan Poe's Pit and the Pendelum was about psychological warfare.
This one followed same ideas but with Tuomas's point of view. Also the voices panning left and right were only for those first sentences from the boy. After that it shouldn't do that. At least according those who saw it live.
Again the seed planted from beginning might had something to do in human brain and we think it does pan everywhere. Lol.
Anyways. Thx for reaction. And goodnight from Finland.
BTW Tuomas Holopainen(keyboard player, song writer, band leader) and many things more. He arranges all of these songs. Or does now after Marco left, who helped to write lot of these.

This is the song that started my journey with this miraculous band. Almost 4 years ago I was hospitalized with an illness (not Covid) that I'm still dealing with today. While in the hospital I didn't have a TV in my room, so I had my phone and went on youtube to watch things to ease my mind and to stop freaking out. The first thing that popped up was this video. I watched it and I was changed right then and there. To this day, they were the Angels on my shoulders that in my eyes, saved my life and gave me the strength to fight. I thank them everyday by playing their music.🌹

The Poet and the Pendulum was written after firing Tarja the original singer. She was the face of Nightwish at the time, and Tuomas (Keyboards) wrote this and considered her a muse to many of the songs he had written at that point. They had also grown up in the same city and knew each other since early childhood. All the band members decided together to fire her for acting too much of a diva And her husband & Manager was stepping way outta bounds concerning the band business He always wanted more money , only big paying show but the band did it for the love of music and there fans . According to all the band members, Tarja was missing lots of rehearsals and would not even travel with the band anymore. Tuomas was painted as the devil by many fans, and went through a deep depression. He even considered ending the band . He wrote The Poet and the Pendulum at that time, and actually kills himself in the song. He said he killed himself in the song at the 10:00 time stamp , as to kill the pain he was going through . To this day every time he plays it, it takes him back to those feelings, and shows on his face. In the last part, Mother and Father, words are said to him that his real mother said to him at that time of his deep depression. One part that touches me at the end when the guitarist Emppu and bassist Marko, the only other two involved with firing Tarja (that were still active with the band)were standing with Tuomas at the end in solidarity and love., NOTE : the 1st two words are (The End) and the last two words are (The Beginning) representing the end of the 1st era of Nightwish and the beginning of the next era

As far as I know, Tuomas has a difficult relationship with his father, which was the subject of the documentary musical "Imagenaerum". The father condemned Tuomas's pursuit of music, because he wanted him to do something "serious" that would bring money. That's why Tuomas experienced his depression even more painful because he didn't want his father to "turn out to be right", that music is "not serious" and he didn't succeed. Perhaps even Tarja's husband reminded Tuomas of his father. But if I'm wrong about the connection to this story, please correct me :)

The issue your were hearing in your headphones is called "panning" and I can't detect much panning in this song. It's panned equally throughout. It looks like that "bouncing" from earpiece to earpiece is probably at your end.
About the meaning of the song, well there will be lots of comments explaining it. The song is structured like classical music as it ebbs and flows through the story and one commentator remarked that the structure seemed to echo the stages a person goes through when contemplating suicide. It's a very deep song and when you listen to it again after understanding the backstory (pick the version with captions) it will hit you.

It's impossible to understand the song if you don't know the story behind it. So it's not because of your brain and its comprehension, but because of the lack of knowledge about the background.
The change in music represents the constant change of state of mind during depression.

Pit and the Pendulum was a metaphorical short story about the tribulations we all face throughout life - a very wise and clever mechanism for Tuomas to use to express his feelings of turmoil! OK, I didn't realise that you were still quite so uninformed about the band. "Tuomas " is Tuomas Holopainen, founder and keyboardist of Nightwish. He and Tarja founded Nightwish in Kitee, their hometown. He writes 95 % of Nightwish material and is nicknamed the "Metal Mozart".

This song was written about the disastrous fallout that followed from Nightwish firing their original lead singer, Tarja Turunen in 2005. From my (uninformed and ignorant) point of view, no one was really at fault and no one really behaved well. The media in Finland reacted with shock, and even politicians were taking sides. From Tarja's point of view, she had to take the next step in her career and divide her loyalty between Nightwish and her new husband and family. For Tuomas it felt like a stab in the back from his old friend. This song is rarely performed live, as Tuomas often cannot bear it. His earpieces are not set to pick up Floor's vocals. Notice how his bandmates gather around him protectively. The climax of the song "mother and father" are the actual words spoken to him by his parents at the time he was contemplating suicide. He says that he wrote this song as a "musical suicide" as the only alternative he had to actual self harm.

    Hello
The song "The Poet and the Pendulum" is a 13 Minute journey through the mind and turmoil of Tuomas Holopainen after the year 2005. It was in that year the band parted with their long-time singer Tarja Turunen and had a personal falling out with her. The pain of the separation was big on both sides, and shown in this song. There is the responsibility that the band and Holopainen had to show towards the fans,. It was the End of an Era for them, and reason for Holopainen being lost as described in these lyrics. We can only of course to a certain degree suppose how much of these are truly Holopainen's feelings, wishes and pains - but we do know that the lyrics of Nightwish have been up to then very personal. Other songs on the album also digest this separation and falling out of the members with Turunen.
This is one of the interpretations and i know lots of fans do not agree, they just need to read the open letter that was given to Tarja by the whole band at her last concert with Nightwish, where they fired her. And the main reason that Tuomas went through a depression was that specially the Tarja fans where furious and showed that in the media and everyone was blaming Tuomas. (the fans spit on his grave). He felt the whole world was against him.
However personal and "real" these thoughts are, I feel like this song definitely takes us not only on a journey with Holopainen but also into ourselves. The music underlines the emotional gravity of the song extremely well. And I believe a lot of people can actually relate to a sense of guilt and being overwhelmed that all they desired for is the safety of home and innocence. While being personal, the song can still ring true to it's listener. That's a quality Nighwish possesses in many, many more songs. The emotional journey is one we can all share and very few bands know how to put that journey into song and especially into sound as well as Nightwish does.
The band remains through all it's shores and Oceans, one of my main favourites and I hold special place for the band in my musical heart. I hope you have enjoyed reading my analysis and share some of my thoughts. If you do have any comments, please feel free to let me know. And remember the beauty of interpretation is that it is subjective; we can see all and feel different things in the same song and continue to love it endlessly.

Tarja was Toumas's muse, she was the face of the band the voice of his creativity. There new each other through school the band was conceived my Toumas, Emmpu, Jukka and Tarja on the shore of a lake. The music of Nightwish as written for Traja's capabilities. When she married her husband, he represented her to the band and interfered with a lot plans, ideas and events, this is the pain of this separation, the anger, is in another song, MASTER, PASSION, GREED. It has NEVER, been played live , It will never be performed, it is Nightwishes heaviest song, the palable petty anger is not some something they are proud of. It is a shame really because nightwish death metal is still awesome.

Tuomas is the keyboard player. In 2005 the band fired Tarja (the first keyboard player) and many friends turned on him. He went through severe depression and considered suicide. The voices you hear are voices that approximate the voices in your head when mental illness is starting to set in. When the song mentions "three minutes", it is exactly three minutes to the point Tuomas "chops" his head off with his hand, representing the pendulum. Tuomas is a fan of Edgar Allen Poe. He's also a fan of Disney - the keyboard stand is Groot. The voices reflect mental illnesses like psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder or severe depression. The video game "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" uses this concept.
The "Whore for the cold world" talks about being stuck in the industry. Also the place where it describes being "on this altar" where he was creating for fans.
The second robber to the right of Christ was the unrepentant person. The repentant person was on the left of Christ (the first robber).
You might want to check out "Shoemaker" (Do the video - it's got lyrics) - it's about Eugene Shoemaker. Floor does an exquisite job with it. Also check out "Music".

This is a live performance from Wembley arena in 2015, The poet referenced is Tuomas as he contemplated suicide after the sacking of Tarja, it hit them all hard but particularly Tuomas, in the whispered part when it mentions "I only have Three Minutes and Counting" 3 minutes later he mimes cutting his own throat, The conversation in Mother and Father was based on a real conversation he had with his Mother. The whole song is a roller coaster of emotions, read the lyrics or watch it again with the lyrics on screen you will understand the movements of the song. I think this was the last time this song was performed and it is unlikely to be performed again as Tuomas says he is not the same man who wrote this song, This was his virtual suicide so he did not do it for real

This is by far the darkest song from Nightwish.. On the brink of suicide Tuomas found music to cast his feelings into and thus save his parents unbearable grief. So Emppu did not go to Tuomas to plan some mischief but to see if he could still bear it to play it life. Sometimes a reactor comes up who says: "I have been there too. I met people there. They are all dead now..." Others have no words but pick up the feeling. And then the tears flow....

Empathica, also known as the White Lands of Empathica refers to an item in Stephen Edwin King’ book (Dark Towers) It is a snowy tundra located in End-World. The residents of Empathica are known for their abilities to empathize and share other people's emotions. And that’s exactly why Tuomas uses this to describe the band’s situation in 2005 after they fired their 1st female vocalist. You can feel all the rumors whispering in the background but no one can put a finger on it.
The general story told (and so is the title) narratives a tale from Edgar Alan Poe: “The Pit and the Pendulum”. The Pit and the Pendulum' is a short story about the horror surrounding impending death after the narrator is sentenced for heresy by his inquisitors during the Spanish Inquisition. The mental break that follows results in confusion that makes the entire scenario even more frightening.
This song is build along the five stages of grief and starts with “The End” (of an Era).
What we have seen of Tuomas and Tarja, Tuomas was very much smitten by Tarja, but Tarja didn't return his feelings. In fact Tarja married Marcelo, and this resulted in the song "I wish I had an Angel". Given that Tarja's nickname was Angel, it gives the song a lot of additional meaning. Around the time that song came out, Marcelo had it out with Tuomas which resulted in the ultimatum from Marcelo that "She's mine now, and you can't have her". From that point on (feel free to check this) Tuomas's comments about Nightwish being Tarja etc. all changed to he could go on without her. As things progressed, it brought on much of the fighting that's all too well publicized and I won't replay here. The end result is the dismissal of Tarja and Tuomas going into a deep depression.
To start with "the end"(of an Era) obviously indicates the end of Tarja with Nightwish. In the background you hear unintelligible whispers. Yet Tuomas can sense that after the break he was being gossiped about behind his back. Next I will note the line "A widowed writer torn apart by chains of hell" which hasn't been commented on much here. In light of what I've said, the meaning should become apparent.
The verse of "My home was there 'n then
    Those meadows of heaven
    Adventure-filled days
    One with every smiling face"
Is best linked to the song Meadows of Heaven on the same album, which shows Tuomas's desire for the innocence and joy of childhood, a common theme with him.
The poet without a rhyme: Tuomas had been shocked for a long time and had lost his motivation to go on living, the reactions to the sending of Tarja had affected him so badly. The poet could not make any poem anymore.
"the second robber...." There's been some debate as to the picture here, is it the painting of the last supper, with Tuomas as the Judas, the traitor, or the standard situation around the Crucifixion. There were two robbers crucified with Christ. The first one mocked him to the end, the second declares Christ is innocent and finally asks "Lord remember me". Christ's response was "today you will be with me in paradise". Tuomos is identifying himself with this second robber, and this has major implications for the end of the song.
Later he refers to the "Dark Passion Play". That's a medieval term for a play depicting the death of Christ and connects strongly with him seeing himself as the second robber. He feels his friends are performing it and as such are partly responsible for his death. Many other comments made here fit with this interpretation.
I really don't have much more to add to the death scene except to note that Tuomas said he would "die alone but loved". That line, when considered with the end as well as the strong religious references previously lead me to believe that the person speaking in the end is God and not his parents. God is often referred to as "our heavenly Father" in the Bible, and that fits in strongly with the prior references. In any case, the song ends as Tuomas finds that he has always been loved by beloveds.

      @papaverweg Год назад

So this song is about Tuomas's pain in letting Tarja go from the band. The pendulum represents the coming day the band should dismiss her.... That moment was always coming, closer and closer, and he knew the ultimate pain would happen eventually in 2005. Directly after the “End of an Era” concert giving her an “Open Letter. But then, everything explodes. Tarja's entire fanbase is against him. The whole of Finland rallies and publicly condemns him. FYI: In this song Floor's vocals characterize Tuomas' side (and that of the rest of the band) The widowed writer. While Marko the hate-spreading opponents of Tuomas, so Tarja's fans represents.
Tuomas: "For years, I have been strapped unto this altar."
The widowed writer line refers to a writer that has lost something, e.g. a wife or a muse, i.e. Tarja.
"Oh Christ, how I hate what I have become
      Take me home."
He wants to forget all about these troubles and just fade away back into his childhood (the 'dreamer's hideaway').
I think The Pacific represents the doubt - the blind eye he turned to the friction with Tarja all thoe years. Everything is perfect, the turquoise waterfalls. He wants to be tucked in beneath blue, the pain and the rain (all representingso he won't have to see it and he can pretend it's not there.
The 'blue' doesn't have a capital B like in Dark Chest of Wonders, where it's referred to as a good thing. In this song there is no capital B, and so it refers to sadness, for example, "I'm feeling blue."
His lullaby is the swaying blade. The problem is always lingering above him, even though he is tucked beneath it. Late at night he knows it draws near.
"On the shore we sat and hoped."
This is possibly a direct reference to Tarja. He invited her into his world and - his oceans - and hoped with her that the pale moon - his music - would keep them together just as it keeps the fans together
"Whose guiding light chose you, chose you all."
Then the music changes and the fear kicks in once again.
"2nd robber to the right of Christ."
In the bible, two robbers were crucified next to Jesus Christ. The first one mocked and condemned him. The second robber defended Christ, proclaiming him to be innocent and indeed the son of God. Jesus then allows this second robber to be the first soul to join him in Heaven.
Tuomas refers to himself as this second robber, perhaps because he believed until the end that Nightwish could live on with Tarja. But it was not to be. He is torn in half and so comes the death of his inner infant, his beliefs and his innocence.
The crows represent everyone in the world who think they have a right to judge him. They take advantage of his suffering.
He views himelf as having a "heart of stone". He feels that he should go to Hell for doing what he did, and that everyone would be glad for it.
"Slain by the bell tolling for his farewell."
This line refers to the pendulum, which he always knew would ultimately bring about his farewell.
"The Year of Our Lord" is the year that Jesus was born. 2005 was a kind of anniversary. The year zero of this conflict, a hint that even though Tuomas has died, there is a coming rebirth as he is "called from the cares of the world".
He lies with a "smile on his face" (more positivity). However, the "1000 pages of erased text" represents everything he has ever written and worked for in his life. As Tarja leaves it is all gone, and all his pages of hopeful poetry are rendered meaningless.
      "Save me!"
In the end, Tuomas's soul is saved thanks to the love and support from his parents. They see that he has become cold, and warn him that "the blade will keep on descending". There will always be problems in life.
They warm his heart and bring him back to life by reassuring him that he will alway have their love.
And so... The beginning... A new start with another genre and a new female vocalist: Anette Olzon.

The Pit and the pendulum was a book of Edgar Allen Poe. A lesson in life: "The blade keeps on descending". Learn to live with difficult things that can occur every day. You're good when you can cope with that. You're very right!. Not all reactions contain this story of E.A.Poe!
But Tuomas the poet used this story to express his feelings about loosing NW's first singer Tarja Tarunen. It was a national crisis in Finland that this occured. Nightwish was almost done in that time. How do jou express your depression? With the E.A poe story and the dark passion play about the crucifiction.... It will come in place for you, i'm sure!

In Nightwish lyrics when Tuomas talks about poet or child he's talking about himself. In this song he's mentioned by at least three times: "poet" in the song title", "the storyteller's dead" in the first movement, and then "Tuomas" in the end of the third movement. Or in song title "Dead Boy's Poem".
The Poe references revolve around the Pit and the Pendulum. I haven't read it, but I understand in both the poet was killed by a swaying blade that slowly came lower and lower until the poet was killed.

So my apologies for whoever encouraged you to dive into this complex masterpiece without the backstory. Most fans advise people to wait until they know the band and it's history well. This is Tuomas's (keyboardist ands man composer) most personal and emotional song. It is also very personal and emotional for most fans. In 2005 the band had reached a breaking point with their first lead singer, Tarja. Things between her, her husband/manager and the band had been deteriorating for some time and had reached the point where they could no longer work together. The band decided to fire her, which they did via an open letter, right after the End of an Era concert. Tarja responded with her own open letter explaining her side of things. Both letters are on the internet and worth reading to get a feel for their emotions at the time. The backlash against the band, but mostly against Tuomas, was massive and very nasty. Tuomas felt betrayed by Nightwish's fans and sank into a deep depression. He wrote this song as way of expressing and exploring all of the emotions of his depression and grief. Tuomas often uses the poet in his lyrics to reference himself and yes, he does have a great affinity for the ocean. He sees it as a place of refugee.
Best analysis of this song I have ever read is by the artist and musician Annika Hausen. It is a Master's Thesis level analysis that is very insightful. @frenwd1 has already provided some of her analysis but the whole thing is worth a read. I won't provide a link (YT algorithms delete my comment every time I do) but a google search on her name and Poet and the Pendulum will get you there. For me this is Nightwish's greatest song. Their Magnum Opus. Tuomas pouring out his heart and anguish in the music and lyrics. Floor perfectly channeling the anger and pain. The final section's lyrics are the actual words Tuomas's mother spoke to him during the depth's of his depression. Floor perfectly captures the anguish of a mother who has lost her child. This song is no longer performed live. Tuomas has said they (him, Empuu, and at the time Marko) are not those people anymore and they have moved on. Performing it just takes Tuomas back to that difficult place emotionally. He often would have the sound engineers turn off the vocal feed in his in ears because it would make him to emotional. Read the open letters. Read Annika's analysis and listen once again and I know you will get the full emotional impact and the greatness of this song!

My experience has been even when a reactor gets the song on a cold watch, once the know the backstory they feel the emotions twice as much. So even if you might get the song on first listen, knowing the backstory makes that first listen even more emotional.

As others have noted, there's a very emotional backstory to this song. If you know it, that adds to the emotional impact of the song. But unless someone tells you that ahead of time, how could you be expected to know that? Who does research into the backstory of every new song they hear, before they start listening? As I say, the story adds to the impact, but you can still enjoy it without knowing, just not as much. The music has a sweeping grandeur and beauty of it's own, separate from the story behind the lyrics. And Floor's vocals and the musicianship of the other members, are always of the highest caliber. I will suggest that you turn on the closed captions for basically any music you react to, it can be helpful with the lyrics, especially when it's not an official lyric video. I have a hard time distinguishing the words in the style of singing that Floor sometimes uses, so you're not alone. 🙂

Then watch this again. You may just begin to understand Tuomas depression, betrayal, suicide , redemption and rebirth so heartfelt portrayed by empath Floor. The connection to the literary Pit and the Pendulum is indirect and symbolic, concentrate on Tuomas’ words and emotions. Understand why the song STARTS with the end and ends with the beginning.

Tumultuous - oh yes, that's quite exact description of how "things" have been back then in 2005... Tuomas got much flak from different sides, and the band was on the verge of getting disbanded... it took them allmost two years to come back on track. And this song is both a result of it, and at the same time means of "getting it out" to start healing for Tuomas... if you feel anger and pain in it, that's because what HE felt.
Floor is perfect in this song, it's no more "just" a song, it is STORY that radiates the emotions over distance and time, that even we, watching it several years later, by mere yourube recording, still can feel it...

You're trying to place a pre-conceived assumption on something that has a deep and dark emotional background. It's personal, and although he uses the setting of Poe's work as an allegory for his emotions, it really has very little to do with the obvious connection of the title. Nonetheless, nice reaction, but if you really want to know what's going on here, it's going to take a bit of research. If you love Nightwish, as I do, this alone is a journey of it's own. I would assume that if there is something in the composition that’s next level genius, like causing the sound to bounce back and forth in headphones, then yes it’s intentional, Tuomos knows what he’s about. There are other structural elements like the “3 minutes and counting” at 10:00 and the heart stops beating at exactly 13:00. So ya, it’s all on purpose.

This song is about Tuomas and is a song he created that ends his life rather then end it for real. After Tarja was let go do read the open letters from both parties. Nightwish was and still is a national band to their country and their country are proud of them but once Tarja was let go it angered their Government and the media and the fans which is why the dirty laundry was made public explaining why with the open letters. Tuomas was so devastated not just having to let Tarja his friend and school mate and one of the main creators of Nightwish go but the backlash he felt threatened and Raped as the term like some whore giving his everything and soul just to have it all crumble and everyone turn on him very used and abused. Yet still finding it in his heart to forgive them and continue on. But in this sing 3 min and counting the he cuts his throat at that exact time ending his life. His parents spoke the last words sung by Floor letting him know they are there for him. The beginning referance is a new start. Both guitarist ventured over to Tuomas to check on him if he's o.k. It is the only concert this song has ever been performed and as far as i'm aware the last time.

@AmericansLearn: Since you asked, I will explain about the "3 minutes, and counting."
As others have mentioned, "Tuomas" refers to Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist and composer for Nightwish. He is known as "The Metal Mozart," and for good reason, because he is a modern-day musical genius in his compositions.
As here, the "3 minutes and counting" refers to the time the Pendulum will finally kill the Poet. As you mention E. A. Poe, and knowing about the story Pit and the Pendulum, then you know that in the story, the narrator, who I call "The Prisoner," escapes his fate by escaping the pendulum when it goes to kill him. But here, the Pendulum kills the Poet -- which was signified, exactly three minutes from the whispering, by the Pendulum taking one final swing, and Tuomas slicing his own neck, right before the lights went dark -- and you missed it, hence this comment, lol. But then, you hear the heartbeat, which signified Tuomas' last figurative moments, something he evidently contemplated during the pit of depression he found himself in.
On a personal note, I would have to ask my mother about this, but recently, doing geneological research, my mom found out that my family is actually related to Edgar Allen Poe.

Most people that know Nightwish will suggest you only watch this one after you know the back story, because it adds to the emotion of it. Tuomas is the keyboardist/founder/songwriter/composer of the band. Almost every song comes from him, his mind. Floor is his voice now. I will bet if you watch this again, you will notice band members checking on him and looking at him to make sure he is alright. For him this is a very hard song to play, because it came from him when he was in such a depressed and saddened state.

Nightwish Army south Brittany France reporting
Guy Eliot, (doubt he's a soprano now) sings the first part.
Toumas is the widow, losing his friend Tarja. The band fired her. He got a lot of hate for this and suffered from depression, but everyone was suffering and there was no shoulder to cry on. But he wanted to be back on stage, he was a whore for his music and performing.
Everyone should have someone, friends, family to bury them, but Toumas with his hard heart had no one. His corpse was left to rot, the crows feasting on him. Good riddance, he's going to hell. 3 minutes and counting, the pendulum cuts his throat. He returns to his family.
Throughout the performance Empuu and Marco check in on him, both at the end, he's ok. I think this was the last time they performed it, Toumas said he was over it.
Marco, Floor and Empuu sitting on the front of Kai's drum stage, the camera turns to Toumas, alone, this part chokes me, to the extent I can no longer watch this performance except through reactions. Floors gentle "thank you" at the end , I cry.
Incidentally the whispered lyrics at the start are the spoken words from part III, backwards. There's no room for massive egos in Nightwish, as Tarja found out, " bye bye", interesting watching this performance, Tarja was fired the keyboard player, composer and leader of the band, Toumas got a lot of hassle and hate, even the Finnish government got involved, depression followed, the Poet and the Pendulum effectively Toumas's suicide (or maybe the band).
    The trilogy
"Poet" deals with the aftermath of Tarja leaving the band.
" Bye bye beautiful" is a song written to Tarja.
"Master, passion, greed" is written for Marcelo, Tarjas husband.
    Possibly Nightwish's heaviest song

"Holopainen is a fan of Disney, Tolkien and Dragonlance. In 2006 Holopainen said that he is "not religious, but an open-minded, thinking individual". He does not consider "religion to be bad, but human interpretation of it"
What i still find funny is that americans, even since they all are so religous, are always shocked that here in germany most shops are closed on sundays. Have you never heared about the genesis ? How weird that you hear sounds bouncing from side to side where no other reactor and probably no Nightwish fan has ever heard it. This song is written by Tuomas the keyboardist ( and Poet in this song) and is the catharsis for the hate that he received and depression he suffered after the sacking of the first singer Tarja in 2005. She had intended to leave and was making more demands but the band pre-empted it by sacking her at the end of their tour as she thought the band couldn't continue without her. Obviously she was proved wrong as Tuomas wrote two excellent but different albums for Anette Olzon as she didn't have an operatic voice. She left late 2012 and this singer, Floor Jansen, took over and can sing anything that Tuomas has written plus has given him a wider pallet to write for. Perhaps you should use CC on some videos as Nightwish uses complex and relevant lyrics plus it tells you where the various sections are.

In general I love the raw reaction videos BUT when it comes to this song quite frankly it's outright disrespectful to Tuomas and the band. I have followed many reactors who refuse to do any lead up work on this song and I've never listened to them again. This reactor is another person I'll never listen to again.

@@oldschoolgamer-w4u There are at least 4 or 5 of these nimrods in every NW reaction vid. Unreal.

Shall I say you were clueless. You could have easily had lyrics available to follow along. Your like a rainbow lost in the dark.
No understanding of the meaning of this song.
