This is face melting, intense and downright nuts, the way rock n' roll is supposed to be. He was young, hungry, accurate and full of tricks. I love this.

Zakk is an extremely well rounded player and what I loved about Zakk when he joined Ozzy was he went against the grain. He employed a mostly pentatonic style although he does dip into the modes and all. He was refreshing. Also loved Jake and Randy. Zakk was a necessary evolution for the Ozzy sound. I am still a huge Jake fan and wished he'd done at least one more album with Oz and was totally bummed when he was fired, but I was thrilled to hear Zakk when No Rest came out. Zakk is just awesome and a great showman. Totally in love with guitar. I first saw him on the No Rest tour at Long Beach Arena in '88. Same venue where I saw Ozzy with Jake on Ultimate Sin two years prior.

People who say this haven't listened to his music. There's a ton of variety on No Rest for the Wicked. Definitely moments where he goes for the more soulful type of solo with bends and heavy vibrato. This is not a solo for a song, just a solo mid-show for sake of shredding.

@@taradunn7339 voice acting. But I've done guitar professionally, also and been playing for longer than Zakk's been alive AND I can play Satriani, Tony MacAlpine, Randy Rhodes stuff.. Just never was motivated to learn Zakk's stuff. Now, take Jake E. Lee. MONSTER player. I rank him above Zakk. As for musicality and technique I'd even put Jake above Randy but I think Randy had a more unique sound and approach. More unusual riffs. But Jake shredded and was super melodic too. Zakk USED to be better but he just relies on the two-notes per string pentatonic stuff too much and really wide vibrato. Like he's trying to literally strangle the guitar. He lost his finesse. I have hundreds of guitar covers on my channel. What do YOU do for a living?

A friend of mine, years ago, who was totally deaf taught me how to read lips. Right after Ozzy gives Zakk a soul grip and is giving him a thumbs up at the end of the video, he says to Zakk " Fuckin' A " as in a grade on a school paper ( a popular saying back in the 80's ). Awesome. lol

One thing that I've always found interesting about Zakk Wylde is that he can make this style of shredding interesting without a whammy bar. Sticking to Les Pauls made him develop a distinct style of shred is distinct from many other shred gods of the 80s.

Yup. That's about how I remember it. 1989(?), USF Sundome, Tampa, FL. Zakk was brand new w Ozzy (Miami #1, Tampa #2). During solo, bent over & split his pants; stood up, said "oh shit" and carried on. Yes, he was drinking from a black label bottle (contents unknown).
Ozzy had a 'teleprompter' as it were: Lyric sheets taped to the floor for the new material. He'd act like he was rocking, but was reading! (i was second level, directly side stage, aerial view).

If Eddie Van Halen was playing Eruption but drank some of Zakk's Valhalla Java Odin Force Blend Manroot Power O'Doom coffee for ultimate sustain, that would be this solo.
