not really.. the engines got stuck. That's basically the story.
None of the cast had any idea what was going on even when they had someone explain it to them.

@@Macca17 True. I have loved the recent Big Finish output. I can just about remain patient for 13th Doctor stories if it means Jodie will stay for a few more seasons.
I read this & thought it was some sort of typo that was actually referring to the Arthur C. Clarke novel. But I found out what you were referring to. It will probably end up on my Christmas list - I always get a book for Christmas.
The main confusion around this story that I always had and that I think solves the problem of why people don't get it is the character of Control, control in this sense doesn't mean the person in control of the space craft, but rather the control element of the experiment being done by Light on Earth.

It's a story that's worth persevering with. I loved it from the start, even if I wasn't sure why :)

I loved Ghost Light, not that I really understood it at the time. Ace looking sexy, Katherine Schlesinger in a tuxedo, Redvers hunting the Crowned Saxe-Coburg, Control proper ladylike now... So much to like!

I've been a fan of Doctor Who since 1980 and seen the Doctor regenerate from Tom Baker Peter Davidson Colin Baker to Sylvester McCoy to the present Doctor of Jodie Whittaker and been looking back on Classic Episodes of Doctor Who through BritBox and Ace I use to fancies her as I was a Teenager at the times as I loved the way she use to beat up a Dalek with a Bat and use explosive to wipe out evil, I do hope Ace come back to Doctor Who at some point even in Jodie Whitaker run as she is Awesome.

Ghost light is one of the better classic who stories so yeah
Just because a story is weird doesn't mean it's terrible. It's actually one of the few complicated stories in the show's history that actually works.
