We could have seen more death than just that.
If they just shot people it would be like the Boston Massacre. Only 5 people died when the British shot at protestors that they "had every right to shoot" but it kicked off the American revolution. Had just 1 cop lost his temper and opened fire on the entire crowd the situation would be completely different and citizens would have taken up arms that same week. 1 Cop could have lit the spark that caused the 2nd Civil war like 1 guy lit the fire that started WW1.

The elipse (Where the rally was held) is 2 miles from the capitol. That is about a 32 minute walk.
The rally was never meant to go anywhere outside of the rally point as such there was no reason to believe attendees would be there.

When I visited one day with my kids a long time ago at the Capitol the capital guards were the nicest people in the world one of them even carried my little boy and he explained to him who Abraham Lincoln was. They are good people
