I don't see how you can compare these cars. The Mazda will smoke the veloster all day. The Hyundai top motor is 200 hp and 195 ft lbs. mazdaspeed 263 hp 280 ft lbs. come on now
Mazdaspeed3 all the way, i drove subaru wrx STI, ford focus ST, and veloster turbo. And ended up with mazdaspeed3, the car connect with driver everytime you hop on it, it feels like you really have to drive it, so much fun with it, not like other, that drives for the driver, that you just sit on it and let all the machine and technology drive for you. Personal experience only, no haters. Owner of mazdaspeed3 2011.
+310 Bootang And yes i agree, i own an older 3 .. It feels so much more active and engaging than my mom's Leon or my friends Focus. The steering gives you much more feedback and the acceleration feels punchy
It's always fun to read on the forums the ramblings of 16-25 yr old boys who are so insecure about their own rides they feel the need to disparage other people's rides.
I agree, if you got a sick ride and your bashing on the car thats different. a true car enthusiast would have a legit reason to hate on the hyundai volster turbo even in the video the guy driving the mazda 3 all he could say it looked ugly...the volster handles better end of story if you want it to go fast throw in the 3 grand that you saved but who really needs more than 200+ hp which it already has....are people really going over 180 miles an hour in the streets?
@@JappyChan Man the mps shits all over the veloster I mean I’ve taken one out from hyundai and the transmission was dog 💩. The MPS also had xenon headlights which means I didn’t have to replace them after like 7 years. The MPS was also way more practical And had a better driving position for me. The MPS was never a hassle and never blew a turbo. Needless to say Every time you would go in to service the car it seems like they’re interviewing you. With the mazda It’s just in and out.
I have a Veloster Turbo so far I love the car, plenty fast, affordable, great on gas and as for the looks. I have the Matte Gray finish and she is a sexy beast. More over I can't talk shit about Hyundai 10 years 100,000 mile warrenty. When the other car makers step up to the plate and offer that I would consider them.
Mazda dominates this battle because: It has better performence, it has more BHP and I love that mazda is unique in this time of stealing the disign of another car company, and the sexiness of Mazda.
Matsuda engineers are batshit crazy about racing, driving and cars. I've met some in Japan and all they talk about is driving and racing. When they are not designing them, they are racing them and driving them. This is why I like them. Matsuda has fighting spirit!
I recently bought a 2013 Veloster turbo and bone stock I beat my friends s2000 in a 40 roll. By no means is it quick off the line, it lights up the front tires through first and second in a dig, but the car is by no means slow. This car can keep up with srt4’s and there’s suprisingly a ton of aftermarket support. With just a tune and no other mods you can gain up to 60 hp. There’s Veloster pushing 500 bph which is a very respectable amount for such a light car. If you consider getting one I say jump on the chance immediately, you will not regret it
Mazda 3 MPS (or what we call in America; MAZDASPEED 3), because it is faster and more pratical in so many ways vs the Veloster. P.S. Hyundais require a lot more matinance if you want them to last. Mazdas don't because they are Japanese. (unless you get a rotary engine, but that's a different story.) in the end; Mazda 3 MPS (MAZDASPEED 3)
I got this car in White and the comments you get are amazing the ride is fantastic if you wanna get a adrenalin buzz just turn off the dynamic stability control and floor it !!!!!! Every option available as standard can't be faulted for the price,as for the Hyundai there's no comparison to this car.
I've always had a thing for the different looking cars so I fell in love with the Veloster as soon as i saw it. As for the Mazda the front looks like almost any other Mazda and the back looks like it got rolled in dough and they just painted over it. If you're an enthusiast then you're going to end up modding the car anyway. My votes for Veloster all the way.
So you're into looks rather than performance. Do you just want to look good going down the road, or do you want a vehicle that's really fun to drive and feels great? Maybe you need the looks. If you drive very much, the Mazda 3 is the way to go.
If you hit 0-60 in 8.3 seconds with the veloster then you obviously are the shitiest driver in the world. I get 8.3 with my non turbo velo. the turbo version goes 0-60 in 6.3 which is amazing for 23k and dont forget the perfect gas mileage =)
0-60 in 6.3? Not with only 184HP. Takes at least 250HP in a 3000 pound (1360 KG) FWD car to do that. To your point, 8.3 does sound a bit slow. I would expect something in the low to mid 7 second range for the Velo turbo based on the metrics.
dude...give up. The turbo is low boost set for fuel economy NOT power, it has a weak engine to begin with, and it handles like a boat. There is nothing wrong with driving a fuel efficient Hyundai, but do not expect to be taken seriously in the car enthusiast world whippin' a Veloster turbo. This video wasn't even a contest.
I didn't even give the Veloster a look, drove a few MS3's but still prefer my Ford Fiesta ST over any of them. I love it more than my MKV GTI I had prior to it as well.
Some really childish comments here. Some are informed, but not many. I have a Genesis 3.8, a Veloster Turbo 2016, and a CLS 6.3. They all are different, they all serve for different needs and driving feels. I didn't think I would buy a Hyundai, coming from owning Benzes for over 12 years, but they are rather great cars. The Veloster Turbo is a great little car, has a lot of amenities and feels of quality, great handling, and good power. It's not meant to be a speed demon, only an idiot would think that it was. That's what I have an AMG monster for, the 0-60 is faster than 8 seconds though, I call straight bullshit on this video and anyone else that says it. I got my VT fully loaded, nav, automatic, and happy with it. It's a daily driver commute car I am doing some mods on, K&N airtake, and a few others. I don't care for Mazda, I don't like the engines, nor the way that it looks or handles. The pickup is not all that either, I have no bias, I like cars. Period. I chose the VT after driving some hybrids, Leaf, Lexus CT200H, Volt, I picked the VT for the price, looks, driving feel, and warranty. It was a mix of reasons. Enjoy whatever you buy, but the VT is a great car with plenty of aftermarket choices of parts.
I don't really care for Mazda much myself either. I know the video's not about these two cars, but I had a 2013 white Veloster Turbo for a 4 year lease. I just purchased a 2016 Focus ST, and there is no comparison. The Focus ST is a better car in every single way. Handling/steering a loads better/more precise and better feedback, it's smoother, the interior is much quieter (especially on the freeway, the VT can be quite noisy), more space, more power, loads more torque and better power delivery, clutch, transmission and shifter are also much better, smoother, give more feedback and just make it easier to drive. Also at least for the 2016 ST3 package, the interior has much nicer amenities/infotainment system. Now, the VT for its base price is pretty nicely equipped and is a decent value, but between destroy wheels due to the low profile tires and potholes in the winter with no spare included, road noise, and the torsion beam rear axle that loves to hop around on less than stellar roads when turning, the ST is a much better vehicle. The VT isn't a bad car, but ponying up a few thousand more for the Focus ST is well worth it IMO, and at the same price, the Fiesta ST is probably a better car as well. The VT could be great is Hyundai made some engineering refinements and upgrades to it, but the VT platform is based on their lowest end economy car (Accent) and the Elantra, so I don't see that happening any time soon.
Thabiet Look up the definition of bias. I test drove that model, didn't like certain things about it, some pointed out in the review, that is preference. I have nothing against Mazda as a brand, love some of the other models, hence no bias. Name-calling? What are you a 5 year old?
Thabiet I see your point..but it's nuanced. When you have two fighters, the judges make a decision based on performance. No bias towards either fighter, just judge accordingly to that standard. I felt the Veloster Turbo performed better on more "boxes ticked" if you will on criteria I was looking for. They all are cool cars, I had a fun test driving them all.
Ford Focus...hmm. I didn't test drive that one. Thought about it, I may just test drive it to get the feel. The VW GTI was another one, I liked it, but didnt want to spend near $35K to get what I wanted.
bwebmasta1 I have a 15 VT rs. I enjoy the car for what it is. I would have signed on the focus st but there was a 5k price difference (24k vs 19k). I am also a Ford technician so that 24k was with D-plan pricing. I could have went the Fiesta st which was almost the same price route but between the 2 cars the veloster seemed to me the better buy.
tall driver here...yes the veloster has less back seat leg room for the passengers behind the driver but the mazda 3 has less leg room for the driver...for me its veloster im way more comfortable in it than the mazda...plus it looks a lot sexier!
Mazda 3 MPS FTW. I spent £2k on engine upgrades, it's now running 334.6 BHP on an average from 2 separate dyno's. They are wicked, and easily modified!
The Veloster looks a lot better than the Mazda MPS. The MPS's performance on the other hand is a lot better than the Veloster. In the end i think for what you get pricewise the Veloster is a better option. I think both cars in the end are gooood.
That's odd, I think the Veloster looks like a joke on wheels. That exhaust is the prettiest thing about it, and it has ZERO use for it. 180+ HP? and you have exhaust that makes it look like it's a performance car? What a joke.
They mentioned it once but I really feel this is an important piece of information, I can go flat out in it on the road legally. I just got my license and am driving a Veloster and it is loads of fun. I just floor it and it makes lots of noise and is very exciting. Plus its very techy which wasn't mention and is a major component of the car.
I'd totally get the Hyundai Veloster! I wish they had a little more power in the non-turbo version but the styling looks great although you're definitely going to either love it or hate it! I love how you can get the optional panoramic sunroof, something that the Mazda 3 MPS doesn't offer! Also, you get a 7 inch touchscreen standard in the Veloster whereas in the MPS you have to buy it, and even then it's not that big. Okay yes, the MPS has more horsepower but that translates into poorer fuel economy in the Veloster! Gonna get a Veloster soon! Love it! Such a good car for under 21K.
Mazda wins automatically, because they generally last longer than Hyundai's, Long story short Mazda's last 10 yrs+ without major problems, and Hyundai's last 5 yrs, and then they start to have major problems with their transmission and that. BUT, Hyundai's are safer to drive cause their built stronger...
1both cars r crap, end of story :D altho if i had no other choices, I would take the Mazda for a car that is fun to drive, and the Hyundai for power....
How, about if u change ur vehicle every 5 years, and wanna be extra safe, go for Hyundai, if u wanna be sporty and have a long lasting vehicle that's moderately safe, go for Mazda.
Love the videos. I'm actually having my Veloster Turbo but from the ground up...to include the ultimate package and all the fixings...and it was because of watching videos like this. I appreciate the effort put into compiling the data, stats, and shots of these cars.
You have to admit though. They went bold with the design of it. Its a love it for hate it car. I personally think the turbo model looks good. The big grill is pretty cool, but the regular non turbo model is pretty ugly.
Bought a black 2010 Mazda3 MPS when it was 3 years old. Stage 1 remap to 300hp and around 310lbft of torque, remove all the torque limiters and derestrict it so you have a genuine 160mph car!!! Lairy as hell and quick enough in gear to keep up with MUCH more expensive quick stuff. Absolutely loved that car and thinking of buying another as an older Sunday car!!
it doesn't even fucking matter which one has more hp, its not like all of you guys r everyday street racers anyway? At the end of the day the Veloster is sexy and has a great price for all that its has to offer.
After reading all the comments. Its obvious that most people think the Veloster looks like shit. And yet most people think Hyundai makes copies of other cars. I just don't get it.
Get one, I have the 2014 (quite a bit of mods on it too) and I have no idea what they are talking about on the speeds. I beat my friend's stage 1 GTI (faster than the Mazda 3) from a dig, twice. Those numbers are from 87 octane fuel, not 91 or 93, which is what most owners put into it. I'm in the mid 6's for 0-60 on my car
100% get one they are the most fun cars ever. i have a 13 and its so much fun and even when you are beating the shit out of it you still get good gas mileage
I owned a speed3, I bought it used with 16000 miles on it. I had so many problems with the car. Not saying it was the cars fault, you get what you get when you buy used, but the entire transmission had to be replaced as it popped out of second and third gear (wouldnt hold), and even after it was replaced under warranty at mazda, while parked, the entire top set up gears went out (1,3,5). After taking it back a second time and having it repaired again, it still didn't shift right, was hard to get it into gears.. at that point I gave up on the car and mazda in general and traded it. I'm only here bc i want to see how the turbo veloster compared.
I just bought the 2014 Turbo Veloster. I absolutely love it. I have every option you could possibly get on this car. The navigation, Michelin tires, interior led lighting. Find me a car that out performs mine, with the options I have, plus a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, for under $25,000 and I'll buy it. But it doesn't exist. If you you put all my options in that Mazda you'd be at $32,000 and you still wouldn't have near the warranty. If Mazda makes such great cars, why don't they stand behind them with a real warranty. 0-60 is well under 7 by the way. Probably closer to 6.
That's not the Mazda 3's peer though. It's more like the WRX and the Veloster is more peered up against the Nissan Versa and Honda Fit and such. The turbo is just a bonus. Besides, the Veloster is not even a 2 liter engine and here in the USA it is 6-7 thousand dollars cheaper than the Mazda 3 and about the same price as the Versa and Fit.... it gets way better gas mileage too than the Mazda, which means it is more economical.
I agree about the fact that these two aren't competition for each other, but the VT isn't at all competition for the fit and versa. The regular veloster might be, but the turbo is supposed to be up against the Civic SI, a couple years ago the Sentra SE-R, and you could almost argue now the Juke Nismo. A honda fit is 5k less than the Turbo, as is a versa. They're not the same field at all.
I've driven both and the MPS is easily the superior car. The Hyundai ain't even in the same league. The MPS is possibly the most underrated hot hatch there is and the best value for money imo. You can pick up a Gen 2 MPS for around 8k with 50k miles. It's got the power, reliability, style, interior is solid and well put together, has a Bose sound system and it's much more interesting than a dull S3 or GTI which are way too common. The Mazda 3 MPS is truly a special car which stands out from it's competition and it never fails to put a smile on my face when I press that engine start button!
Literally no comparison I've owned an MPS, bought brand new in 2013 and although it was getting slightly aged the thing had 256bhp stock and pulled like crazy, you could sit in 5/6th gear on the motorway and floor it without dropping a gear and it pulled like mad excellent engine and also a proper LSD it was a true drivers car, come on man get that bullshit car away from it.
Nothing about Hyundai says sexy. If a woman sees that Hyundai badge, and she will walk away laughing at you. I'm guessing you're either an old virgin, or a young kid that the girls don't talk to. Hyundai has the longest warranty to draw people to buy them. Nobody wants them, that's how they get most of their customers. Decent car brands don't need to use that method.
epicfail86 I've figured it out, you're a Hyundai fanboy. It's OK, all kids go through that stage in life. They fall in love with something that just isn't impressive to anyone else. And they defend it with everything they have, as if their life depended on it. You seem like an angry little Canadian who probably owns a Hyundai. Keep trying to convince people that Hyundai is worth a bucket of shit , troll.
You sound like a fanboy there, Grogidubnus. Insulting people that have better taste in looks. Nobody said the car is BETTER overall. Just better looking. And it's all opinion based.
main argument left out of this, both being turbo FWD what about the LSD. the mazda gets much better traction while turning hard and being on the gas as well as in the snow. the veloster is prone to 1 wheel peel when driving it the same way around a corner, it really doesnt like to put its power down in the twisties, and for me that was the nail in the coffin for the veloster.
Mine is a NAV 60mm throttle from 2013 Elantra, Megan exhaust type 2, 2.5", catch can, manifold long runner Mod, CAI with Spectre 9833 inline air box, Federal s595 tires.
MAZDA 3 MPS ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! - looks so sexy, turbo nice looking tasteful extras and is more powerful and more practicle and isn't Korean like that Hyundai piece of shit
I have a 2014 Veloster Rspec that has 236bhp. Tuning, new cold air intake and a resonance delete will bump you up to there from 201. I've smacked plenty of Mazda 3s. Even a GTI. Yeah you have to redline it sometimes to get the upper hand and match revs perfectly on downshifts but once you get it right it's really not that "slow" of a car.
I put a Corksport intake, Corksport turbo back exhaust, Corksport down pipe and COBB access port in my '08 Speed3 and it's pushing well over 300. Smacking the Turbo Velosters and Stangs like they're nothing. And God I love the sound of that 2.3L. Only complaint is the dumb plastic bpv.
+Anon ymous That might have been the most unintelligent comment I have ever read. This is against mazdaSPEED3s not mazda 3s. The mazdaspeed spanks GTIs by car lengths, your VT might stay on ones ass; downshifting has nothing to do with racing, so again unintelligent. And turbocharged vehicles at redline make significantly less power than they do if you shift early. Someone take this mans keys
Veloster is for boys age 17-25 who wear jean shorts and a flat brim Monster energy drink hat on the side of their head. the ms3 has some boy racer to it as well, but at least i could keep some dignity in tact while I'm driving around
No on person in europe would ever want to buy a veloster, it doesn't have the performance or technology to match the germans or even the mazda, this is a car more appealing to older people
Kurt Bang Tidy well chaps be carefull i seen a few about. One being a plain cop car . Next time you think about smoking one for the hell of it. Think about who may be driving it. Xx oh if it were my money i wouldnt touch it with a stick. Nor the Mp3. Sounds like a compressed music file than a car.
MP3, but I actually like how the Veloster looks from the front, it's a very funky car! New 2014 Mazda 3 blows away all the competition though in terms of looks, performance and tech.
I have the Veloster Turbo and love it. Drove both before I bought and enjoyed the Veloster way more. Plus better gas mileage for my 70mi daily commute. It is a blast to drive. Got mine for $21,900 in Phoenix AZ minus the sunroof and nav system. Never did like sunroofs and have a phone for nav.
Mps by far brothers got one stunning car the power behind it is amazing and the veloster looks like a long box mazda all the way the engine is better the interior is better I'd sooner pay extra for the mazda mps then the veloster anyday xxx
Step 1: Cut each car into front and rear halves. Step 2: Part-out the back half of the Mazdar and the front half of the Velosta. Step 3: Connect the front half of the Mazdar to the back half of the Velosta. Step 4: Rename it the Mazter PS Turbo.
Of course I vote for the Mazda! Why would you buy a lower brand like Hyundai? All of Mazda's cars are built for the experience and joy of driving. "If it's not worth driving, it's not worth building!"
Go test drive a Hyundai Veloster Turbo, heck even the base non-turbo model. Tons of fun to drive and you can actually see out of that awesome looking rear window. Mazda's cars have gotten boring and Hyundai is really taking a step forward in terms of safety, design styling and features for a standard price...
Mazda is the lower brand.. Hyundai already has the genesis, genesis coupe and equus. The genesis and equus with a 5.0L v8, genesis coupe with 3.8 v6. The only good car i see from mazda is a miata and mazda 6. They have such cute inline 4s.
0-60 in...how many seconds?? 0-60 in 8 seconds classes itself out of the performance market. my old station wagon could do it 2 seconds faster than that, and it weighed well over 2 tons, and was by no means a performance car.
What was the MPG on that old station wagon? For those of us looking for turbo, sporty, high end tech package, heated seats...Turbo Veloster is the way to go. Incidently...yeah it has turbo...also gets in the upwards of 35+ MPG. Going 0-60 is no big deal for some of us when we are more concerned with passing people at the gas station filling up their old station wagons. I'm interested in saving money...not 0-60.
off cause! what do you think of me? =) i would like ot hand these cars over to our taimed racing driver, but he is not the stig, he is stigs partying cusin, so he has to have 3 other with him in the car at the same time! =)
For the price and value, the Veloster Turbo is the best car. It costs less than all the other cars in its segment, has better gas mileage and still puts out 200hp. But the Mazda is the faster car, and you pay more for it....but not much more. Overall, I'd take the Ford Fiesta ST.
The Mazda is plain and ugly. Hyundai wins on looks and since Korea has overtaken Japan in automotive engineering as they have in electronics, it is also better on build quality.
FYI the Veloster turbo limits the throttle to 50% until the odometer passes 1000 miles. That's in the USA anyways. I don't know how many miles your car had on it for this test. I have a VT and that's verified with an OBDII reader.
265justy No, actually I'm 15, and my favorite cars a re muscle cars by the way, I just happen to not like crappy expensive mazdas, which by the way is just a more vented (hopefully) bigger engines version of my teachers car, I think I'd spend my money on a better car, A monaro, Mustang something like that (An old one, then fix it) or spend less money on a cool looking coupe which doesn't try to be a sporty looking car by covering itself in vents, it just is on it's own...
Lotus Lexa. The only reason it has a vent on the bonnet...is for its top mounted intercooler...just like an Evo or WRX.. Mustangs are alright in their own way..but they have bad sales outside of North America ..reason being is you can buy a Jap or German car with half its engine size and still have much better performance. I can buy a slightly tuned Mazda FD Rx-7 straight from Japan secondhand and obliterate a Mustang on track.
Yeah, except I could never afford anything which can go fast, so looking good is all I've got, plus I did say an old one (Remember) around 1966 so maybe it's different to what your thinking, you're probably thinking of the NEW mustangs, anyway, I said Monaro first, I'd much rather a Monaro, or I could get: a Torana, 240/260z, kingswood, 80s 300Zx. they'res a lot of better options, I don't want I rice burner I want a muscle car, something to be proud of, (and yes I know I mentioned japanese cars) but I bet a tuned 1966 V8 Mustang, would sound a lot better, then a new Mazda.
Lotus Lexa. Rice burners are little 1.4L Civics with bulky body kits and go faster stickers.. That's were you draw the line. Type Rs etc are not be fucked with cars & are more than capable of putting some V8 fanatics to shame.
I recently upgraded from a Hyundai i20 1.2 to a Hyundai i30 1.6 turbo and its a huge difference form the i20 so now I'm thinking how the veloster would compare to the i30? Planning on getting in next so will see. Im a farther of 2 got bills to pay can't afford anything to flashy but this is my nearest thing to a bit of fun 😀
+ZeroFucks I test drove both an i30 (1.4) and a Veloster (1.6) the other day, the i30 pales in comparison! You may get the i30 a little cheaper (I was looking at a £1k difference for similar trim) but the overall feel of the car and the drive isn't a patch on the Veloster. Ended up buying it!
rok707 you got the veloster? I have only had 2 new cars in my whole life both Hyundai, i20 and my latest the i30 turbo. I had always bought second hand cars but i got fed up with unexpected car bills ect so decided to get a brand new car so searched the top cheapest cars in UK and Dacia, Kia and Hyundai where the 3 cheapest car manufacturers then after that it was Vauxhall, ford, Nissan ect. I'm chuffed with Hyundai's latest cars, they look up to date and feel and drive fine, they have come along way because I'd never go near one years ago.
+ZeroFucks Yeah, got the Veloster, picking it up tomorrow! My mate got an i20 back in 2010, was impressed with that one then, rated Hyundai highly ever since. Dacia I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. Prices that low are warning enough in my mind! Kia have never appealed to me for some reason I can't put my finger on. I wouldn't have put Hyundai in a comparison with those 2 to be honest though, always felt Hyundais were miles better!
My only concern I have with the veloster is the mpg. Because I use my car a lot and to work and back home is 32 miles for me and I work 6 days in a row, that's nearly 200 miles a week. I will have reconsider it, I will probably end up keeping the i30 turbo to be honest more convenient with my having 2 children too lol. Have fun with the new car 😁
kniveznor1 WRX is faster, but the interior is crap and you can't get a hatch anymore. I bought the ST and adore it. Sure it's not for everyone, and it's much more of a handful than the WRX, but I've had nothing but fun and reliability with mine.
Better my fuck!!! Mazda have been around longer , are Japanese (better than Korean) ,have built more legends & classics (RX7,MX5 etc) ,more reliable ,have a better history in Motorsport (Le Mans winners ) ,hold their value better ,more desirable ,better looking cars (new Mazda 6) ,better performance ,Mazda are also more popular on the tuning scene in every corner of the world. while Hyundai should stick to making diggers & forklifts END OFF!
265justy Hyundai is like, 30 years old. And outside of this specific car Hyundai outclasses Mazda is basically every single car. Hyundai has just entered hot hatchel/rwd coupe market 2-3 years ago. You think their engineering is crap? Lol, then wait 3 years. You'll be the idiot for driving the Mazda. P.S. Korean engineering >>> Japanese engineering. Samsung doubles all of Japan's major electronics companies, and Hyundai is the world's 5th most prominent motor company. What I'm saying is, take your head out of your ass and use your sad excuse of a brain
As for common, I have driven 50,000 miles in my car, and have only ever seen 11 Mazda 3 MPS's ..... I'd say they are pretty rare at one every 5,000 miles
The Mazda 3 is my Choice. MAIN reason is the Hyundai engine is Chrysler's World engine! The Engine is made and produced by DODGE!! Garbage engine!!! the Mazda 3 engine is made and produced by MAZDA!
darkblaze176 May I ask how? Chrysler is an American car brand, Hyundai is Korean.....I'm not seeing how American brand owns a Korean brand? You sure they own it?
Guy in the Veloster keeps using the word "unique." Let us not forget that that does not mean "good." Compared to the precision of the Veloster, the Speed3 is positively maniacal. And that's a very, very good thing.
TRUTH! Couldn't PAY me to drive a Hyundai, nothing about that says "hater". If anything, it just means I respect myself too much than to be seen driving a Hyundai. If you spend that much money on a Hyundai, you aren't very bright.
Grogidubnus Companies don't have a chance to prove themselves if people like you are around. Hyundai and Kia have come strides and they deserve the recognition. So get off your narrow minded path and give something new a chance.
All of you guys are nuts! I think the Hyundai Veloster is one of the best-looking hot hatches on the road. YES it's a little low on power but it offers so much for a really good price, things that you have to pay a lot of cash for in other cars in the same class. Stop dissing Hyundai. They've come a long way since the early 2000's. Go find somewhere else to whine! They're amazing and I'm going to go test drive a Veloster!
The fact that you used the word "poser" tells me you probably don't even own either car. My 2014 Veloster Turbo is plenty fast, 201hp with a turbo is nothing to sneeze at. Plus my interior blows the Mazdas interior away. Plus a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty they can't touch. If you want a very quick car with every option under the sun, plus an awesome warranty...choose the VT. 845 Motorsports will put the VT up over 300hp for an additional $4000.
TIM Grills I owned an MPS for 2 years before I sold it and I test drove the Veloster Turbo when it came out. 201hp is nothing, as a matter of fact, a non turbo 4 cylinder car can make that power without even trying. It's a car that puts styling above engine and handling, hence why I called it a posers car. A Golf GTI in comparison is a much better car.
It doesn't pose to be anything than what it is. A nice sporty engine, great interior with tons of technology and a warranty that leaves you worry free for a long time. I'm sure there are lots of cars that are faster. But for my money the VT gives great value.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad car. It just doesn't hit the mark as a hot hatch which is what it markets itself to be. And personally I think it looks much better than the MPS.
I would agree it's no hot hatch. For $4000 it sure could be with the 845 turbo bolt on. I'd love to bump mine up to the 300hp that gives, but there goes the warranty. Hopefully Hyundai will keep getting more aggressive with the horses as the years go by.
the Mazdaspeed 3 is not just a souped up Mazda 3. they don't even share the same block. The Speed 3 has the MRZ DISI turbo charged aluminium block with a second stage six speed manual clutch. Stock the car will break 150 mph, whats the top speed of your Camry?
'The Hyundai has a little less power than the Mazda..'
Hyundai has 184
Mazda has 260
...
Veloster I got has a bitover 200
00:57 slightly less BHP???? 76 is quite a lot in a light car!
I don't see how you can compare these cars. The Mazda will smoke the veloster all day. The Hyundai top motor is 200 hp and 195 ft lbs. mazdaspeed 263 hp 280 ft lbs. come on now
The veloster turbo is actually 400 pounds less though so be just think about that for a second next time you wanna talk HP & Torque
Though this is true the Power to Weight ratio is still in favor of the mazdaspeed3
Man the mazda 3 mps shits all over the veloster. I owned a black one in 2010 and did a drive through the hills. It’s an absolute dream.
310 Bootang Toyota Starlet connects even more, it has no power steering, no traction controls, no ABS brakes, cable operated throttle XD
Rennie Ash isnt that the truth haha
basically a heavy kart :D
+310 Bootang And yes i agree, i own an older 3 .. It feels so much more active and engaging than my mom's Leon or my friends Focus. The steering gives you much more feedback and the acceleration feels punchy
Got a Veloster 2014 none turbo. Love it. 35-40 Miles a gallon. 6 speed Manual. So fun to drive
Next on Car Battle: Audi S4 vs Golf Rabbit
Would rather have the Mazda
Lol the endings like the epic rap battles of history!
Mazda
(unless you get a rotary engine, but that's a different story.) in the end; Mazda 3 MPS (MAZDASPEED 3)
weird ive had hyundias since 2003 each one I traded in right after 250k miles never any issues
I couldnt disagree more! got a 2010 mazda3 myself and nothin but problems...
whats different about maintenance in a rotary? change the oil every 5k miles and its fine.
Japanese? own a Nissan and last for 80miles and now its in the graveyard
***** i said that from experience. my rx8 was still pulling strong with no signs of wear when i sold it.
I got this car in White and the comments you get are amazing the ride is fantastic if you wanna get a adrenalin buzz just turn off the dynamic stability control and floor it !!!!!! Every option available as standard can't be faulted for the price,as for the Hyundai there's no comparison to this car.
the mazda 3 MPS its better! MAZDA its better than hyundai
I would say yes in most cases.
@@jolenejones6243 the speed 3 is waaayy cleaner, the veloster is ugly especially with that 3 door bullshit😂😂😂
@@mahhzdaspeed2879aye they was tweaking 9 years ago 😂
@@G89211 lmao maybe a veloster N, but the standard veloster, helll nooo😂
VAspeed3 since you got the car specs wrong on the veloster i will not even argue with your out of date knowledge.
Just went by what he said in the article. 20HP wont make a lot of difference either way.
dude...give up.
Frank h Give what up? Sounds like we're making the same point now.
I could have went the Fiesta st which was almost the same price route but between the 2 cars the veloster seemed to me the better buy.
tall driver here...yes the veloster has less back seat leg room for the passengers behind the driver but the mazda 3 has less leg room for the driver...for me its veloster im way more comfortable in it than the mazda...plus it looks a lot sexier!
i do have Hyundai Velloster Turbo i love the performance speed and elegant
Focus ST, ha! Thanks for your comment and you're right, Adnan did say that Veloster has less power than it should.
ms3 all day!
The velociter wins hands down beautiful car. Fast car, nice and quite and its just way more better then the mozda.
1both cars r crap, end of story :D
altho if i had no other choices, I would take the Mazda for a car that is fun to drive, and the Hyundai for power....
How, about if u change ur vehicle every 5 years, and wanna be extra safe, go for Hyundai, if u wanna be sporty and have a long lasting vehicle that's moderately safe, go for Mazda.
Shaz aintnobodygottimefordat true, but POWAAA XD
***** the Hyundai Veloster Turbo actually has 30 more hp than the Mazdaspeed 3 Hatchback, so power indeed
Hyundai has a 10 year warranty in them. You sure about that?
Love the videos. I'm actually having my Veloster Turbo but from the ground up...to include the ultimate package and all the fixings...and it was because of watching videos like this. I appreciate the effort put into compiling the data, stats, and shots of these cars.
hyun = 1.6l turbo. maz = 2.3l turbo. yet the hyund makes better use of a smaller more eco engine. go the h!!!!
Lol look at the pic mate ^^^^^^^ sexy vs blowfly.
For me, the Mazda 3 is the winner, eventhough, I currently own a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. My older car is a 2006 Mazda 3 and it is still running strong.
The Veloster is the ugliest car on the market, I rather even drive a Chinese car than that turd.
I think the expensive type looks mad-badass.
There's waaaay worse cars than the veloster.
Evan Harwell even worse than this
Jesse Lee
The veloster is still worse than all those cars mentioned.
How’s the Mazda going? I’ve been on the lookout for a good one for a while😅
MPS!!!
Mazdaaaaaa
it doesn't even fucking matter which one has more hp, its not like all of you guys r everyday street racers anyway? At the end of the day the Veloster is sexy and has a great price for all that its has to offer.
the mazda's still better tho 😂😂
Carlos DaThug yea Veloster is the sexiest
Mazda is sexier, Veloster has an ugly design imo
After reading all the comments. Its obvious that most people think the Veloster looks like shit. And yet most people think Hyundai makes copies of other cars. I just don't get it.
Sold me when he said you get a "Look at me" not a look at the competition. Hyundai Is so worth it!
Did you get one ?
+mat nice nope not yet. hopefully by the end of the year
Same here ughh
0-60 in 8.4 seconds? What kind of stuff are they smoking? My 6spd NAV manual 140hp non turbo'd veloster does it in 8 seconds.
He was in 5th gear the whole time
Chripallo yeah they have the numbers wrong... 6.7man 7.1 auto stock Vt's. Nav 6 speed 8 sec and DCT 9.1s sec
my veloster turbo does it on 7 seconds and it has 201hp, not 180 or whatever he said.
Hyundai has zero street cred. For people who don't know about or care for cars.
You can really make a Genesis coupe look damn sexy though.
i considered getting a veloster before. cant say id give a fuck about "street cred"
Any true enthusiast doesn't give a damn about "street cred", that's for sure.
An enthusiast makes his own street cred, a loser buys into it.
Your half right. Hyundai is really catching up and leveling with all competition. From the luxery to sport
LaFerrari v. Porsche 918 v. Koenigsegg Agera R v. Pagani Huayra v. McLaren P1... v. Peugeot 107.
107 is highly underated.
Mazdas probably faster but the Veloster looks sexier. Also, Hyundai has the longest warranty.
Grogidubnus you're about, 10 years behind. I'm sure your brain is trying your best to keep up, but time tends to change.
epicfail86 I've figured it out, you're a Hyundai fanboy.
Veloster Turbo has 204 HP from the factory. Wrong in video
I think they were talking about the Hyundai Veloster Turbo sold in the UK, and the Veloster Turbo sold in the U.S. only makes 201 hp...
Charlie Knight On the dyno its around 195hp
main argument left out of this, both being turbo FWD what about the LSD. the mazda gets much better traction while turning hard and being on the gas as well as in the snow. the veloster is prone to 1 wheel peel when driving it the same way around a corner, it really doesnt like to put its power down in the twisties, and for me that was the nail in the coffin for the veloster.
NOT COMPARATIONS! LOVE MAZDA 3 :)
My decision is split. The Hyundai looks better but the Mazda is faster.
I have a Rust Orange Veloster Turbo and its an absolute hoot to drive. I love it so much.
the motion graphics in this are pretty sweet
Veloster is for boys age 17-25 who wear jean shorts and a flat brim Monster energy drink hat on the side of their head. the ms3 has some boy racer to it as well, but at least i could keep some dignity in tact while I'm driving around
the only Hyundai I'd ever even CONSIDER is a Gensis coupe
No on person in europe would ever want to buy a veloster, it doesn't have the performance or technology to match the germans or even the mazda, this is a car more appealing to older people
Kurt Bang Tidy well chaps be carefull i seen a few about. One being a plain cop car . Next time you think about smoking one for the hell of it. Think about who may be driving it. Xx oh if it were my money i wouldnt touch it with a stick. Nor the Mp3. Sounds like a compressed music file than a car.
Mark C I believe you
guys who wear Monster energy hats to the side still drive aftermarket Honda Civics at the worst, which is still a step up from the Velostard
MP3, but I actually like how the Veloster looks from the front, it's a very funky car! New 2014 Mazda 3 blows away all the competition though in terms of looks, performance and tech.
veloster turbo
I wont let my drunk mates to ride wit me.. lol
Only car i like from hyundai is the Genesis Coupe
+Robert Fletcher the sedan genesis aint that bad for its price either.
I agree
I have the Veloster Turbo and love it. Drove both before I bought and enjoyed the Veloster way more. Plus better gas mileage for my 70mi daily commute. It is a blast to drive. Got mine for $21,900 in Phoenix AZ minus the sunroof and nav system. Never did like sunroofs and have a phone for nav.
Mps by far brothers got one stunning car the power behind it is amazing and the veloster looks like a long box mazda all the way the engine is better the interior is better I'd sooner pay extra for the mazda mps then the veloster anyday xxx
+TheKatiesedge yea for nearly 100bhp more 2k isnt that much.
Awww so bummed out it wasn't actually a rap battle ;)

CAUSE ITS JAPANESE!
Step 1: Cut each car into front and rear halves.
Step 2: Part-out the back half of the Mazdar and the front half of the Velosta.
Step 3: Connect the front half of the Mazdar to the back half of the Velosta.
Step 4: Rename it the Mazter PS Turbo.
mazda
John Waclawski "I'm interested in saving money...not 0-60." then why the hell are you here
Because it has to do with the Veloster. Why are you here?
John Waclawski I'm here to watch that joke on wheels called the Veloster get pissed all over by an actual sport hatchback.
montey1017 i'm sorry, but i find it hard to believe a non-performance car weighing 2 tons could do 0-60 in 6 seconds. try again
for some unexplainable reason, the more videos i watch on the Veloster turbo the more i want to trade in my 2013 genesis coupe for it. X-x
Hyundai
My thoughts exactly, I LOL'd when he said that. It has an open front diff, that thing handles like a plow if you come into a corner a little too hot.

i would like ot hand these cars over to our taimed racing driver, but he is not the stig, he is stigs partying cusin, so he has to have 3 other with him in the car at the same time!
Well, the mazda's ugly and has '5' doors... And menacing? REALLY? Anyway, the Veloster for me.
Veloster for you so . Are you a HAIRDRESSER by any chance..
Forgot to add... Yeah the Mazda was the better car out the 2 by performance and style
Screw the veloster take a focus st
That would be my hot hatch of choice.
they are both trash, get a WRX
kniveznor1 I would get the WRX for sure, but the Focus ST isn't a bad car by any means.
kniveznor1 WRX is faster, but the interior is crap and you can't get a hatch anymore. I bought the ST and adore it. Sure it's not for everyone, and it's much more of a handful than the WRX, but I've had nothing but fun and reliability with mine.
urquhart77 How is the after market accessibility with it?
Ricers for veloster
Racers for Mazda
Hyundai is way better
Better my fuck!!!
Mazda have been around longer
, are Japanese (better than Korean)
,have built more legends & classics (RX7,MX5 etc)
,more reliable
,have a better history in Motorsport (Le Mans winners )
,hold their value better
,more desirable
,better looking cars (new Mazda 6)
,better performance
,Mazda are also more popular on the tuning scene in every corner of the world.
while Hyundai should stick to making diggers & forklifts
END OFF!
265justy dont get your panties wet, this is just a comment.
Amen to that
Mazdas were legends. Not anymore. You can continue to think that if you want but nobody wants to hear it.
I hope you are joking: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Gamma_engine
Haha if you think Wiki is a reliable source you are a moron!
Hyundai is Owned By Chrysler.
darkblaze176
May I ask how? Chrysler is an American car brand, Hyundai is Korean.....I'm not seeing how American brand owns a Korean brand? You sure they own it?
ZzLoGiKzZ
Yes im sure. Much like Ford owned and Built Jaguars, Land rover, Volvos
Guy in the Veloster keeps using the word "unique." Let us not forget that that does not mean "good." Compared to the precision of the Veloster, the Speed3 is positively maniacal. And that's a very, very good thing.
The mazda looks like it was chewed up and spit out, ugliest car I've seen for the price, veloster ftw
That guy has no “honeys” 🤣🤣🤣
Korea car is impossible. Waste no better than scrap.
fuckin hater
Charlie Knight
is the hyundai veloster turbo r spec any faster?
Test drove both. Getting the focus.
Veloster is a posers car. It doesn't have the power or the chassis.
I like the kinda sleeperish aesthetic to the Mazda
Regardless of speed, cornerablity, drivetrain (this one's not solid for me.. AWD > RWD > FWD), I still love my Mazdas :)
I was kinda expecting a race!
Mazda is a winner
what do you mean by potential ? as in potentially you will like it more to drive or potential for modifications, cause the Mazda is better for that.
i can't get over how MS3 looks~ my vote goes to veloster turbo
the Mazdaspeed 3 is not just a souped up Mazda 3. they don't even share the same block. The Speed 3 has the MRZ DISI turbo charged aluminium block with a second stage six speed manual clutch. Stock the car will break 150 mph, whats the top speed of your Camry?
