Hi did you try using the XSTAR XC10A ESC ? It was available some times ago from hobby king and can be still be bought from some shops on aliexpress (It seems I can't post links or my comments got removed). It may be interesting to use as it allow to use either 1s or 2s Some shops also have the programming board to make programming of the esc easier. Thanks for a lot of usefull content for the carisma gt24.
I'm using a GL Racing 18A ESC, but it's basically a hobbywing 18a micro esc. It's supposed to be similar/identical to dasmikro 18a ESC, but not xstar. From what i've read, hobbywing/dasmikro ones perform much better than xstar. There's a nice deal on aliexpress for example: (www.aliexpress.us/item/3256802576773092.html)
This is quite debatable. I think this modded gt24tr would probably win in a track race against my mini-z buggy, but the mini-z is more fun with upgradability and body choices.
@@davem4131 The mini-z buggy is 1:24 , larger scale than their road cars. The wheelbase of gt24 is only 5mm longer; if i recall correctly 119mm vs 114mm. Modded gt24 has better throttle control and more power and it's lighter. Mini-z buggy has better shocks, steering, drivetrain.
@@sammybaka Good to know! You can get upgraded oil shocks, motor and runs 2s lipo on the charisma. But the mini z is a bit more awkward to upgrade the battery etc?
So you remove the pinion from the original motor and put it on the new motor? Can you share a link of the pinion remover? How did you mount it on the new motor? Did you use glue?
Yes you can reuse the pinion from a stock gt24. These motors at these scale all use 2mm motor shafts. Plastic pinions like this can be pressed on using a flat hard surface. No glue. The pinion remover is available from different places but here's one www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804590153666.html.
There are a soft and hard version of these tires. They are quite inexpensive but I don't recommend them. The performance of the carisma rally pin tires is much better.
I think the wltoys 5g metal gear servo works nice. An extra complication is that the stock servo horn assumes a hexagonal spline, so can't use this horn. I needed to make my own horn and pin. I'm using a radiolink rc4gs on this so I just added a matching radiolink receiver. Check out this video with details of the mods ruclips.net/video/3FIq2E5_CsY/видео.html
In the past when my press on besrings start to slip, i gently pinch the motor shaft a couple times with some dikes to give it some bite. If you do glue it, might be worth roughing up the surface of the shaft to give it something to bite to
Great ideas! Thank you for sharing them. After this video, I went back to the stock motor. The shaft was finished with a rough texture and that's probably why the pinion held there. I also taped the ESC differently to allow air to go into the vent slots under the ESC. That has solved the ESC shut off issue so it's happy running the 8000kv motor again.
It's this motor here: www.banggood.com/Brushless-6000KV-2S-2_0mm-Motor-ESC-For-Wltoys-Mini-Q-RC-Car-Vehicle-Models-p-1742246.html However I don't recommend it. The strong magnets make the motor extra notchy. I'd recommend Surpass Hobby 5500kv for this price range.
It looks so cool! Awesome!
Thank you! Aside from tight spaces the layout is quite easy to work on.

Just got a GT24TR and am much inspired by your vids! If I may, what charger are you using for your lipo batteries?
Thank you. I use a skyrc b6 ac charger. isdt brand also seems popular with the micro rc crowd.
@@sammybaka I heard of those chargers before, I decided to try the ToolkitRC M7AC
Is a modded Carisma better than a stock mini z buggy?

@@sammybaka ok, but the mini z is 1/28 vs 1/24? So I’m assuming Carisma will handle outdoors better

@@davem4131 Gt24 handles outdoor better yes. Neither is dust/sand proof but the carisma is a bit more resistant.

How are these Tires? Does the car slip often or does it have a good grip?
There are a soft and hard version of these tires. They are quite inexpensive but I don't recommend them. The performance of the carisma rally pin tires is much better.
@@sammybakaOk thank you sooo much!!! 🙏
When you replaced the esc with the hobby wing do you need a separate receiver? Or does the HOBBYWING have that built in?
Yes, I also needed to bring in my receiver, and also a servo.
@@sammybaka gotcha, which one did you go for? Did you keep the same radio controller?

@@sammybaka thanks for the info! First I’m putting oil shocks on and then electrics overhaul so hopefully it’ll be a little ripper
@@davem4131 Good call on putting oil shocks on first. That's the highest priority upgrade.
