I am seriously glad I found this I always use frame to frame and it ends up licking ass but with pose to pose it looks like you actually have a idea of how long each action is

Pose to pose saved me a lot of fucking time when animating, back then I eventually run out of motivation when animating straight ahead as it feels like it will never end, but with pose to pose I felt like there's an end and therefore giving me hope that I could finish it on time
PS: pose to pose will most definitely never work in stop motion, you're better off doing straight ahead

i tend to use a hybrid of both methods of animating, and i really like that because you can do the main poses first, and then go back later and fill in the inbetween poses.

There was a phrase we learned in 2d Animation, "Not everything, all at once." Meaning do the primary action, then the secondary, tertiary, etc. Like this animation I'm working on has a woman dancing, since she's standing in one spot, I'm animating her trunk first, then I'll animate the legs, arms, hair, and so on.
