I actually like climbing in my well.
It's about 4' dia. 35' to the water. Hand dug about 1906. The concrete lining only extends thru the 5' or so of soil.
I've cleaned it out twice and grouted in a few rocks that were coming loose from erosion.
Nowdays I only irrigate and flush with it.

At least you and your brother work well together. Back when I had my own company my brother who is 5yrs older decided to stop by for a visit out of the blue well I had a trailer job with multiple jobs to do so I figured I'd let him help me he thought I was his helper and telling me what to do and disrespectful to the customer I fired him! First and last time we worked together!

You made a remark about clear water in the video, when i first saw his shirt i thought of clear water out my way by Lake Anna. I reckon it's fairly common lol.

@H2o Mechanic, as a recent subscriber, it's nice to finally see your brother working with you. I hope he doesn't make a habit of using his open-palm as a "hammer". I know it's easy to do but it's best to protect those nerve fibers in the hand. Anyway, I hope you feel better soon.

Hi Phil Thanks for the great video's. I have a question I would like to drill a shallow irrigation well for my lawn. I live in Massachusetts (rocky soil) what would be the best way to do it. I have a high water table in my back yard. 2-3 feet down an I can hit surface water. I have a pond on two sides about 300-400 yards away from my yard. I don't know if you do anything that shallow (30 - 40 feet??? for the Gal per min needed) but any advise would be appreciated.
In your $120,000 Drill rig video you asked if you could use two chargers to charge two 12v Lead acid battery that are in series. The short answer is yes. In fact I did the very same thing for a friend who had a chair lift that stopped charging two small L.A. battery's. Most chargers are ether a small switching type or have a transformer to drop the voltage and to provide isolation from the power line. You can check that the chargers (that you propose to use) are fully isolated by using an ohm meter and making sure that there is no continuity from ether the plus and the minus output wires to the chargers ground pin. While at it, its a good idea to check continuity to the hot and neutral line wall plug pins as well for any safety defects. If both chargers show no continuity then you can safely connect them in series with your truck battery's. Important make sure that the ground wire pin is isolated from the ether the chargers output wires. They should be. If there is a connection to the ground pin then when you plug in the chargers you will short out one of the battery's. through the ground pins. I have 50 plus years (retired) servicing electronic equipment down to the component level. A tip of my hat to you and your fathers vast drilling experience. Best wishes.

The guys that taught me well work. After doing it for 36 years fell in a 60 foot deep 4 foot bore well. He survived. But took fire department 2 hours to get him out. He was 54 when this happened.

Pex is superior. It has been crosslinked and toughened by electron beam. Its same material.

Legit Question, Whats wrong with using pex as compared to poly? im not used to shallow wells like you guys do out there. the well at my parents old house was 1200 foot deep and pump set at 1000 hung on galv sticks. we just had to pull the pump cause wire shorted. that was at my parents old house last year. we just had a new 700 foot well drilled that was cased in all PVC and the drop pipe is all threaded pvc to a 1.5 hp pump. the whole thing is new to us. we have always had steel cased wells. I DO hvac for a living and just used 1 inch pex to plumb from the poly from the well to a hydrant in our shop. anyway Pex a is a great material and I use it all the time, Just curious why you wouldnt use it for a drop pipe. would be so nice if we could use flex drop pipe here but the depth is just too great. I was actually suprised they used threaded PVC instead of galv given how deep it was. I just found your videos and have been watching them all, very fascinating, Hope your thanksging was good and you get to feeling better soon.

Pex only has a pressure rating of 160 PSI pax barbs are much smaller and less aggressive than polly barb fittings the last thing you want is for the pump to fall off the pex or the pex to fall off the pitiless adapter.

The only water wells we have near me are massive water department wells so everything on this channel is completely new to me. But this bore well was a big surprise to me. Why do they exist? I understand that at some point a very long time ago mostly all that existed were hand dug water wells, but people still dig wells like this? Or they are bored? If so why not just drill a well?

What is wrong with using pex as a drop pipe? Not saying you're wrong, just for knowledge.
