  • Peter Liljedahl's book Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics is being used in many math classrooms these days. But what if you've never really made a math lesson like this before? Or maybe you feel intimidated by the whole process. Here's the help you need to take the ideas from previous lessons, use that as a starting point, and then introduce a new concept - all in the Building Thinking Classrooms style.
In this video, I talk about my thought process in creating a lesson in the Building Thinking Classrooms-style. With a little planning and a couple of tips, you'll get in great shape quick!
In Designing a Building Thinking Classrooms lesson,
    00:00 Introduction
00:59 Review prior knowledge needed for the lesson
05:35 First step for your Building Thinking Classrooms lesson
    06:52 Stepping up the difficulty
09:29 Debrief back at their seats
09:51 Additional problems for practice in notes.

Glad you found it helpful! Hopefully will get some more out here in the next two weeks as retakes and such start to even out.
Any topics you'd find helpful in future videos?

@@HayesWorldofMath I’d love to see you focus in on consolidation if you’d like too!

Would like to see more examples. Also, do you have any videos of student interaction during activity.

I had planned to record and upload a video about first steps yesterday but between a sub shortage and then all my recording preferences being deleted due to a hard drive issue, I couldn't get to it. Monday is the new plan.
Also have a lesson from another teacher in the division that was used for a different district. Will see if I can get permission to edit that down and post. Kate is great at interactions and hope to have her on for a discussion at some point.
      I appreciate the feedback!
