bought a 1979 F250 351M granny low 4 speed in 1990..my graduation gift to myself..drove it till i got engaged in 1999. Loved that truck it would pull a house off its foundation.
I'm with you bud that s*** hurt my head how many times do you have to jiggle the shifter to make sure it's in neutral and it does not do any good to move the shifter if you're riding around with the clutch pedal to the floor

I'm no expert but my first thought was find a 460. I didn't even know that about the bell housing. They did a great job on the truck. Richard seems more layed back. Calling the shots and letting the guys do their jobs. I wonder why they didn't build that engine in house?
I can watch restoring old trucks all day; I love it when you keep it as original as you can( Old school) but with a little flair ; The gas monkey touch to it.
If this is going to south Dakota. Don't forget to test anti freeze to 40 below. A warm thermostat. 195 or better. Studded chains for tires. And possibly snow plow set up. Don't forget the weights in the back so it does not spin around. BTW a block heater so you can plug it in.
Hey Richard a buddy of mine is looking to get rid of his Ford and I see this truck being a good part of your collection . It is a 69/70 Ford 8 lug stairway airport truck . I can see it sitting pretty with fat wheels used as a stairway up to a second floor patio ,
My first truck was '79 F250. A farmer ordered it with 1 ton axles 400 C6 4x4. I bought in 82. I started my company with it. I grew it to 18 trucks. I sold my company on '04. I still have it. It needs a full rebuild. You guys find a decent body hit me up.
After almost 2 years without a working car we now are using a 93 GMC pickup that has been sitting for 9 years. Would be nice to have the funds to just fix things like you did here. Like the wipers work when they want to. It only has 96,000 on it which is the best part.
My grandpa had a 79 Ford XLT, it had the 400m with a c6. He smoked Camel non filters in it and never rolled the windows down. Nothing like a non filter cigarette to get the day started 😂.
My dad just gave me his 77 F150 4x4 shortbed with only 78,000 miles on it. It's got less miles than all of my other trucks ironically. Fun fact, it was built in San Jose, CA and I currently store it indoors in San Jose, CA. The only negative thing about it is in CA it has to be smogged which it still passes each year.

'73 - 79 F-150, F-250 and F-350 with the exception of a few trim/grill and engine changes were the same body style. Actually, that body style goes all the way back to '67.

Had a '76 2wd short bed with a 360 in high school. Was stolen right out of the high school parking lot in the middle of the day........was a bad day. My dad had wanted to swap out with a 460 from my grandfather's Lincoln Continental.
You should have a giveaway with a mokeyfied truck or bike at your bar in Sturgis next year. If you buy two beers you get a ticket at winning the truck at the end of the week. It would be a good way to get people to come check out your bar.
Should've used lizardskin to seal the interior. On a budget rebuild lizardskin is perfect for its utility, and would've definitely allowed you to get away from using carpet on a truck that's just gonna get dirty up in sturgis... lol Love the content. Keep it up...

351M parts are still available if not the are other Ford motor parts that will fit and some Chery parts also. Better off pulling the whole front end as there are only 11 bolts plus all fenders and rad support is out of your way
Love the Oregon plates. Born, raised, always lived, worked and retired in Oregon. Trucks like that are common and cool here. It's a shame to see it go to Sturgis.
Would not paint it lest a body pannel must be replaced. Paint repair, buff n polish, uv protection. And maybe a monkey on the hood or two on the doors. It has to be unmistakable Gas Monkey. I know GMG has decals for that. Looking good. Beefy
I got 2 highboys passed down from my dad, and uncle, I wish i had the time too run threw thew with fine tooth comb so many memories with my dad from dirtbike riding too snowmobiling to minibikes too gocarts and shooting down at the pits this thing gut us anywere we wanted to go
Believe it or not Ford made excellent vehicles back in the day. My '65 got me through high school with little to no maintenance which was a good thing because I had no money. From a practical viewpoint we have been going backwards ever since.
I've had some experience what the 351 m 400 they were terrible motors if you're going to put that kind of work in it my suggestion is to put a high volume pump in it or your going to end up later on down the road will have the same problems with the lifters and cam good luck

If it's a GM, Ford, Dodge, etc. truck built in the USA between 1933 and 1998, I probably like it. 😂 Some more than others, but there were only a few bad years for each brand in that wide time period. And I feel the same way about muscle cars. Chevelles, Cuda's, Mustangs, AMC's. I just don't care. They all brought a different flavor to a delicious stew from a time before I was even born.

351M is kind of a 400. M is for modified so that means awesome, and They are tuff. Not as tuff as the 400 but great! 400 is Probably the best motor ever made from ford in those days besides the 429 in my humble opinion.

351M same bell housing as A 460 ! I swapped mine with a 460 1972 Lincoln Cont ! Only had to change the motor mounts ! Best division I ever made! ❤
