- I used BimmerCode to code out the Active Sound Design in my 2018 M240i. Here are the side by side sounds. The lack of ASD is very noticeable driving in any mode. While this is nice in comfort mode, the engine felt nearly silent even when driving briskly which detracted from the sporty experience. This is with a completely stock exhaust.

Yup, everyone I've taken for a ride with ASD on/off agrees that it sounds way better with it on. But I do have plans soon to get a dual resonator delete, hopefully that'll reduce the need for ASD!

Well I think it's also BMW sound insulation is pretty good. When I turned ASD off in my X3 M40i I couldn't hear anything unless I had the windows off. Really hard to tell when to shift since I drive 100% in manual mode. Added full exhaust system so now its plenty loud

I have a Polo in Brazil with 1.4tsi engine and have this eletronic sound feature too
I can turn off on Individual mode, I prefer the humble vacuum cleaner sound instead of fake sound, sounds more natural
yeah asd isnt bad at all on these cars! a good solution for cars having to be way too quiet from factory.
I’d say if you’re keeping the car stock, having ASD really is the way to go.
Sometimes it's completely out of proportion with what the engine is actually doing. When not in Sport mode on my 330e G20, I put the pedal to the metal, the acceleration is somewhat laggy (as it should, when not in sport mode), but the ASD pumps those revs up in the speaker like I'm in a Fast & Furious movie.
@@BenjiSBRK i have never put my foot down when not in sport mode. maybe on the freeway but then the car doesnt lag
@@mevans8646Its still good when you’re modified, asd mixing together with the intake and exhaust sound all comes together to make one good sound imo.

All newer BMWs come stock with it on. So you’ve already got it!

@@jamesgiannoukakis4366 you can try going into Expert Mode on BimmerCode, picking the F22 chassis code, and B58 engine. That may work

The fake sounds better. Also if I had extra bass to the system, it also adds to the ASD.
Wait hold up…is this only on the LCI F22’s? I have a pre LCI F22 and I don’t think I’ve ever heard this audio

I didn’t necessarily hate the way it sounded but it did constantly drone and give me a headache. So I got rid of it and now have an actual intake and exhaust setup so it doesn’t sound like a vacuum cleaner!

@@jdfd4906 drones with it on. But that has nothing to do with the exhaust, it’s just the fake noise that bothered me.
There MUST be a better solution for sound junkies, like offering a RSD (Real Sound Design) option exhaust system. ASD is like putting a fake carbon fiber sticker on the roof.
I think the solution is just putting a louder exhaust on 😉

@@Masterminion1 depends where you live and how strict cops are. Just don’t drive like a maniac around lots of people or where cops tend to be 🤷♂️ I’ve got a resonator delete and catted downpipe now and it can still be almost silent if I need it to be.
