I Done the weatherstrip modification and the end foam. Works like a charm. After a month, the visible coils are as clean as it was brand new. Thanks for the good work. He needs to get off it's butt and do a factory filter fix, similar.

You could probably set that back foam piece first then run the stripping all the way around the filter and over the back piece to prevent that corner from tearing up. I will try it that way when I get mine delivered. I saw the video posted by the guy who opened the unit up to clean the coils and he confirmed that empty cavity in the back is the cause of lint build up on the coils. Apparently the cavity only exists to make it easier for the filter to be removed to meet ADA requirements so it serves no purpose. You may not even need the weather stripping, just the foam piece on the end to fill up that cavity. Also he found that lint builds up into a ball just left of where the filter sits and you can't see it unless you open the unit up or stick a camera back there. That is caused by the filter chamber building up moisture which makes the lint stick and if you remove the filter after every wash and leave it out, the chamber can dry out preventing the lint buildup. So modify your filter to plug that empty chamber in the back of the filter housing and leave the filter out until you're ready to run a load. Also, if you wash your filter allow it to air dry before inserting it into the machine. You want to make sure the filter chamber is dry before your run a load so lint doesn't stick and build up. I imagine you could run an empty dry cycle to help it dry out.

GE needs to come out with a new filter with all the fixes and ship them for free to all purchasers

Other than that filter, I think the design of this machine is as close to perfect as they will ever be. GE did a great job with that… With the exception of the filter design. Way to go!

No heating element so the machine can only rely on the hot water from the House there for hot is never hot and sanitize is a job.
Clothes won't get washer at more than 100*f a total joke

Home Guy Solutions recommends a water sprayer to use on the coils and on the other side where the hole is. There might be more lint on the roof of the side with the hole. It has shown to accumulate there.

I've purchased the two weather seals from amazon, they're not the exact model but should be a direct equivalent because I'm from Canada and the stocks are a little different. What I find for the felt type seals, the little strands come off if you pull on them. They're not glued to the base but weaved on. My worry is that they would get sucked into the coil little by little, eventually causing problems.
Do you find that the felt strands come off from your seals too?

Can you leave a link for the weather stripping that you use? Thanks!

What do you think about placing all the weather strips INSIDE the unit? It might let you use a longer runs on the top and bottom so you can feed the filter in and not catch on the edges.

Not a bad idea and I thought about that but with my wife and daughter using this unit i was worried if weather strips came loose might cause more issues plus cleaning the unit would be harder imo. Thanks for the comment

Awesome. I’ve been using your solution and had similar success. The peeling back on the stripping also happened to me because of family.
May I ask how many loads you do before clearing the filter?

    • @OzarkLivin
      @OzarkLivin  5 месяцев назад +1

I really don't have a specific number of loads before cleaning i just slightly pull out filter and if it looks like it needs cleaned i clean it :) about every 2 or 3 loads

Hello, is the unit still running strong? I love the thought of this unit, but am hesitant with all the nightmare stories I read.
Just wondering if this fix really is still holding up to this day. Much thanks, love the videos!

Yea, watched a guy use a liquid sealant, so try that to glue it down and he used electrical tape. Don't own this machine so, have no idea why I'm watching it. The science of obsolescence is obviously high cost doesn't = quality which is dumbnomics then you have to modify an already outrageous costly machine not to mention more electronics on the device more failure rate. We had a drawer dishwasher the x factor had to literally rebuild every year to 2 years he is a handyman to then reveal the multiple houses of rich people in Nashville, TN which overpriced front load machines that broke flooding the house. He hated them see why. Less electrical on the machine circuit board wise the better.
Do like all in one they just have not built anything quality more let's keep debt slavery going for made-up numbers trashing everything we share including water supplies we all need on a planet none of us own God gifted us for free that's now a flying trash heap of a planet. Money doesn't buy quality anything, including medical care to appliances.
Concept is great. There are too many parts for further failure scenarios. One machine combo look forward to seeing items not made to break or burn people's houses down for made-up numbers. How it's made forgot to do an episode on how not to be greedy aholes for companies not polluting everything nor making items by slavery. They forget that episode.
