the fact that Michael Keaton being a normal dad is the scariest marvel villain just shows how good of an actor he is
This is what made Peter's decision to be a hero tough. His girlfriend's, seemingly, ordinary father is the main villian.
nothing is scarier than a pissed off dad
Dude. If he's scary as a superhero, of course he'd be terrifying as a supervillain.
Green goblin is still scarier to me
Of course, he's the goddamn batman
the lighting in this scene is incredible. The transition from red to green on Keaton's face as he figures out Peter is Spider-man is masterful.
Thats, with the cinematography on Keaton's face also amazing.
He already knew though. Knew his name clearly, didn't react to the akward look except with some slight intimidation. His wife is used to him forgetting the name apparently with him using another name. He was testing him as Peter and spiderman
@@wubbalubbadubdub5867 no I don't think it was that obvious, he only puts two and two together in the car when it's apparent every moment Spiderman was there, peter disappeared. All the small things such as his familiar voice, pale look and strong grip from the hand shake confirmed it.
"Only reason you're still alive is because you saved my daughter"
@@wubbalubbadubdub5867 yeah, he definitely suspected it by the time they stopped at the light. At that point, he was prodding Peter in a way that would not only confirm his suspicions, but would also tip off Peter that he knew. The green light is more of a "gotcha" than a lightbulb.
Wow, Peter's abilities to act casual are non-existent
To be fair, he found out that his gfs dad is a homicidal birdman
Spider's are not famous for acting casual, more like standing in one spot hoping to not be noticed
well and he is like 15 years old soooo
He’s a kid and he’s in the car with a guy he just found out is the same arms dealer and literal murderer he’s been chasing down for a few weeks. It’s a lot to process silently by himself, especially considering this is his first few months as a superhero. He’s quite literally learning as he goes like most of them do but again he’s a kid, he’s gonna make mistakes.
Thats what i'm saying. He outed himself.
I love that they made Vulture have common sense to figure things out. Even recognizing Peter’s voice
Yea exactly and it's not even like they waited till the very end of the movie for him to figure it out either. He literally put two and two together in the span of a short car ride. It says a lot about how smart he is.
Something that kinda bothers me though about him figuring out Peter’s Spider-Man though? How is it Liz didn't realize it? She basically was able to lay out the ground work for her dad to put the pieces together.
@@michaelgualtieri651 she probably just wasn't thinking about it much. She wasn't really interested on who Spider-Man was. He was giving her father problems more then he was her. She just thought Spider-Man was cool and just kinda rolled with the fact that Peter used to hang out with him.
@@michaelgualtieri651 She wasn't really paying attention, she was looking at her phone the whole scene.
One is interested to find out who Spider Man is, the other isn't. When you look for an answer, you're better at getting to it than someone who's not, even if you both have the same clues.
Michael Keaton was more legitimately terrifying with a handgun than Thanos, red skull, or any other superpower being in the MCU. He turns around in the front seat and sh!t just gets real.
Two reasons 1. For a lot of young men, this scene is relatable. The tension and nervousness about hearing it from your date’s father 2. It’s more grounded. This scene isn’t dependent on CGI or fantasy weapons. It’s just simply a man with a gun without his exosuit or weapons threatening a superhuman teenager to go have a good time with his daughter and don’t be a hero or he’ll face the consequences.
@@Wolf-wc1js also what is Peter going to do? Kick his ass and be like yeah he's the leader of an underground crime group who steals weapons. He was stuck, at this point no one knows he is Spider-Man besides vulture.
Yeah, Michael Keaton is amazing. Check out his villainous part in 90's movie called Pacific Heights. He should have played much more roles like that and The Vulture.
I mean when your in a room with a guy who wants to wipe out a country and a guy who wants to murder you and your loved ones specifically. You will focus more on the person that has a direct effect on your personal safety, since you fear them on a more personal level
And they repeated it with Willem Dafoe. Spider-Man has the best villains for that exact reason. For the most part, they are just regular people in extreme situations.
The way Michael Keaton chokeholds this scene is so underrated!!! When he looks in the rearview mirror and says "good ole Spiderman".......masterful!!!!
Same!! This scene is my favourite in the whole movie, and it's A HUGE thanks to how well Michael Keaton acted in this entire scene, from the door opening, to the car ride mirror looks, to the dad talk at the end. Masterclass
why do you think this is underrated? who underrated this? this is like saying "am i the only one that noticed..." when million others have noticed. were you the on who upload this scene? no. someone else did, and 400,000 watched it. Give some credit to others...
"You saved my daughter's life, so I'm not going to kill you for interfering with my schemes. But you do it again, and we'll have to do this super-villain style". Gotta respect Vulture for having a code.
Michael Keaton was lucky he wasn't talking to Bully Maguire or else he's gonna get dirt in his eye
The only way to stop Michael Kaeton is to give him the staff job, double the money.
"Hey, Booby!"
Gonna cry?
look at little vulture junior over here
“Don’t let him intimidate you“
Mission failed
I absolutely did NOT see that coming. Absolute master class on how to do a solid plot twist. Also, I see everyone talking about Keaton's incredible acting, but Tom also did an amazing job. You can hear the lump in his throat building up as he struggles to keep making excuses. Sure, he COULD have grabbed the pistol with his super reflexes and strength, but he's still just a teenager, who's been doing this only for six months, of course he'd be scared shitless by an adult who just caught him off guard and threatened to kill him.
I think after the ferry incident, Peter was starting to question the validity of his powers and his effectiveness as a hero in general, which is why he said to Tony, "I'm nothing without the suit."
I remember seeing this scene for the first time. My stomach dropped when Vulture opened the door hahaha this whole entire scene I was at the edge of my seat
I remember letting out an audible "Oh shit" in the theater
@@lionofnaples Bro.. please.
@@lionofnaplesand I let out a super audible "Bro, what the fuck???" 😅😅😅
Michael Keaton is such a great actor. Cannot wait to see him again as Batman in Flash movie.
Are you still with us
He died probably
@@RenchensSherpa but why tho?
@@RenchensSherpaof heartbreak from the flash probably
The dad is like the only character in marvel movies that can put 2 and 2 together. Or rather in Hollywood movies in general.
Did Dafoe’s goblin put 2 and 2 together as well 🤔?
@@philiptucker7590 yeah
What about MJ and Brad?
@@isomericgamer6644 MJ had 2 and 2 but she failed to put it together

The joke’s on Vulture! Now there’s nobody left in Peter’s life who loves him.
He doesn't know Peter is Spider-Man anymore.
@@FallenOne669honestly I hate that he’s gives off the nemesis vibes for Peter
@@FallenOne669Maybe he does. After all, he was in the Sony-Verse after that wish
Who's peter lol
1) Adrian's sentence about recognizing Peter's voice : start of doubt ;
2) Adrian hearing about Peter disappearing often : big doubt ;
3) Red light reflect on Adrian : almost sure, needs to hear Peter's voice again to confirm ;
4) Green light reflect on Adrian : Peter is spiderman.
I like how like in real life, it's not hard for Michael Keaton's character to guess the real identity of the superhero. It's just common sense, particularly for someone whom is not only shrewd, but is a good judge of character.
Yeah he just put pieces together like whoa this guy has a good grip… then he recognised his voice and his body type… then liz says he always disappears…. Remember spidey is always in nyc so him being in dc that day is a very weird occurance so then he has his suspicion and says oh it must’ve been scared being in the elevator…. When Peter says he was down looking up, toombes knew he was spidey and the best part is Peter never screwed up! He just deduced it using pure logic!
@@SuperJutah And he's smart about it. If he's wrong, he hasn't said anything incriminating to Peter. He never mentions that he's vulture, or that Peter's spiderman. If he's wrong, all he's done is intimidate a high school kid to keep him away from his daughter. It's overkill, but nothing that'll ruin his cover.
I like how Adrian is pretty much a chill dad before he finds out that Peter's Spider Man.
He's even chill once he figures it out because he doesn't really want to deal with Spiderman & just wants Peter to stay out of his way. He's a blue collar supervillain who's just out to make a dishonest living, not to change or conquer the world.
@@ashleybrooke2087 I mean that was also the case with beck
No it’s not? He is literally killing civilians for his own personal gain and to be “ the most famous hero on earth “
@@florpnorp2482 you got the villain wrong
@@asiansimp I’m sorry, the only villain I know who is named beck is mysterio
The lighting in these scenes is great! Vulture hangs out in the kitchen where the light is because Peter knows who he is, while Peter hangs out in the darkness because his identity is unknown. The car is dark and mysterious, but when Vulture finally figures it out the stop light covers him in green, a double sign for being correct and a call to his green costume color
The tension in scenes without background music really hits
And when he starts to become suspicious and put two and two together that’s when the music starts and slowly escalates
This is my favorite scene in the entire film. Underrated, spectacular scene. Micheal Keaton is pretty badass in this movie!
“Of all the reasons I didn’t want my daughter to date…!”
(gives the most relatable shrug anyone could give in that moment)
Fathers are not nearly this overprotective of their sons. Talk about a double standard.
@@M_D93that's because, Believe it or not, wait for it, girls and boys are different
I haven't seen this in a long time and damn it's spot-on. Easily the most terrifying MCU villain. Just a dad with a gun trying to protect his family.
Trying to protect himself*. He, like most villains, is a self-righteous hypocrite. If he wants to help his family then he'll go to prison and do the moral thing... Instead he resorted to threatening a teenager. This is what Vulture is... An animal. Sadly this was young spiderman cuz if he was full grown spiderman the moment he threatened his family he'd be throwing vulture head first through the car window.
He's never referred to as Vulture at a single point in the entire movie. "Demon" "Flying Monster" but never Vulture and I always wondered why that is. Like they made a conscious effort to not say it
The note he left when he caught vulture said "got the flying vulture guy for you, ps sorry about your plane"
@@calebdecker8973 I had to rewatch to see it for myself, thanks
Tony also calls him "Vulture guy" after rescuing Peter from drowning.
@@Warren_The_Warrinator257 pretty sure he says flying monster guy
Maybe Vulture is like Voldemort
this is, by far, my favorite scene in the movie, and one of the best written, acted and performed scenes in all of the MCU.
Tom Holland is such a good actor. He actually looks like he's pretty tense when he's in the car with Vulture. The whole scene creates a sense of tension. It's so good. 👍🏽
Toxic Spider-Man fans: “tHiS PeTEr iSN’T RelATAble!!!!”
Peter: *Has huge anxiety meeting his girlfriend’s dad* 🙄
Nice projection. Outed yourself quicker than Peter with Liz's dad.
@@OilFreeFeathers wouldn’t really call what he did projection
Tobey Maguire Spider-Man 🕷️ is way more Relatable than this MCU ironboy jr
Anxiety is huge mostly because of him knowing her father is the vulture
Well what do you expect from meeting batman?
The fact that he could kill the Vulture with a single punch but he got quite scared shows how immature was Peter here. He was just a boy with a fancy suit, not THE Spider-Man. Nice to see a good character development.
Love how the green light illuminates him when he starts to let on that he knows. Vulture's comic color is green.
its crazy how a normal human being can intimidate a mutated superhuman that can catch a car with his bare hands
Cause they are aren't aware of their abilities Spider-Man can shred vulture apart if he dosen't hold back , Spiderman can literally life 200 tons
Not if the normal human being is "a psychopath dressed like a demon" and has alien weapons at his disposal.
@@BhaskarGhosh9379yet he is helpless here because he’s stuck in a position where if he doesn’t capitulate to vulture he loses the girl and his family. His entire life is in jeopardy because Vulture knows everything about him and has his daughter to leverage. Peter could rip vulture to pieces but his moral code, his lack of experience and care for Liz leaves him helpless here.
@@canderoussnurd4265thats fair, but come on. He can rip him to shreds, on top of that he knows IRON MAN 😂, thats some connection
@@sid4579 keep in mind he doesn’t have the luxury of time to think about that.
Such a tense moment. Proof that you don't always need the universe to be at stake to build tension.
I was like, ''Liz, shush, shut up, Liz wtf stop talking, stop stop stop please stop!'' lmao
Seriously love the lighting in this scene(Car Drive)
The use of the red & green is top notch.
Scary Keaton.
I've never been a fan of Tom's Spiderman movies but this scene proves all the "Peter was too immature and childish" complaints wrong. You can see how legitimately bothered he is by Vulture hiding his criminal activities from his family and his refusal to cooperate with Vulture's threats. He was always a hero, he just needed to learn a few things.
Spiderman: "Beatlejuice, Beatlejuice....Beatlejuice."
Vulture: "It's showtime!"
“Come on Pedro” a very underrated line lol
I know I'm not a professional screenwriter, but I really wanted the line to be a third beat of "That's the right answer" instead of "You're welcome" at the end there. Maybe they tried it and didn't like how it sounded, I dunno.
Imagine if Peter said to Toomes after he saved his life, he repeated what he told him, "Hey, I just saved your life. Now, what do you say?"
4:58 the green light fell on his face implying that The Vulture had taken over.
Another take I saw someone mention is that it turns green as soon as he's sure Peter is Spider-man which I think is pretty cool too.
4:56 you can see exactly when vulture figures out its him, the light on his face from the traffic light changes from red to green.
I love that detail
Toombes must be the first movie villain in history to figure out the hero’s identity just off common sense
Loved Michael Keaton in this movie
I think the Vulture was kinda mid until this scene, the dynamic between them changing so much after the reveal had a real strong impact
Imagine Peter wasnt spiderman and the dad is just threatening him for no reason.
I can think of a few reasons.
He does the awkward teen perfectly.
It’s genius what they did with Vulture
Using him in Tom’s Spiderman first villain in his debut (I believe Vulture was the first villain Spiderman fought in the comics)
As well as how Vulture is what Tony used to be and how he built his wealth, being a weapons dealer
I can't be the only one who wished Vulture was the sixth member of the Sinister Six in No Way Home because that would've worked perfectly.
And he could've had an excuse to be enemies with Peter again. Sure Peter saved Liz in the elevator crash, but he also CAUSED the crash in the first place by giving Ned the energy core. If Adrian found out, he could be angry.
Yes! I wanted him to be the finale member
Peter saved his family 2 times, I don't see why he would do that.
This is such a high quality scene. The actors, the dialogue, the acting -- not a 'Marvel movie' but just a great movie of its own.
Remember watching this in theaters. Whole place got quiet the entire time from reveal of her dad to the peter is spiderman revelation
Adrian : Peter don't tell Harry
Peter : Sorry chump, wrong universe
Liz literally could have just told her dad "HEY HE'S SPIDERMAN"
I see he's brought out the Batman inside of him 😂😂😂
Peter not being able to act normal actually made me nervous irl🤣😭😭
"Yeah, I think it be a good idea to pull out a loaded hand gun, where people might see it and threaten Peter"-Tooms Mind, probably
The guy who flew around committing crimes with mechanical wings?
why do so many ignorant people disregard the fact that peter was just an inexperienced 15 yr old in this movie? I see so many saying oh he couldve just reacted and punched him during the interrogation but bruh if you were in his shoes you would react the same way as a kid
First character to ever say “You sound like Peter/Spider-Man”
You’ve no doubt seen the father of someone Peter is friends with turns out to be someone he’s at odds with situation before. Norman Osborn as GG and Walter Hardy as Ben’s killer in Spectacular. So the fact that they managed to somehow still spring this twist on people is quite a feat.
This was genuinely one of the best twists in years. It upped the stakes, fit perfectly into the story and took me 100% off guard.
This scene was so well done, and Im glad it was well hidden. The intake of breath at the cinema was fantastic. No one saw it coming
Kudos to Peter for trying acting so casual...if I was in his place I would've freaked out and fought Adrian to moment he opened the door
I never noticed he grabbed a gun
5:40
3:50 the kid’s seen American psycho I see
Michael Keaton should have been nominated for Oscar I mean he ended up getting it in a different superhero roll up the road but it just something about him they may his character infamous
"Here we are, end of the line"
God i love this movies writing
I just noticed an interesting Easter egg. The green light hitting the Vulture when he said “good ol‘ Spider-Man” had to be intentional foreshadowing. The comic rendition of the vulture is all green.
That 'dad talk' is the most terrifying line from any Marvel movie villains
Damn Batman versus Spider-Man we got it early
Michael Keaton was the working class hero of this movie.
liz biting the curb 4k hd 1080p
One of the best twists in the MCU so far
I’ll never get over seeing the door open and vulture be behind it and shouting “what the fuck?”
1:55 that face
THE most tense MCU scene. Right up there with Arcane S1E9 dinner scene IMO.
Whats hilarious is peter could litterally punch this mans head clean off without much fuss. Spidey is way to good of a character we need a movie made of one of the comics where he stops holding back.
the fact that aunt may is actually uncle ben blew my mind how she lasted much longer than any uncle ben
Uncle Ben existed in this universe. She's not his replacement he just died before homecoming and civil war.
And they didn't get Uncle Ben say his famous line, because they apparently thought that him saying it for a third time in less than 20 years will be redundant.
Top 5 scene in the MCU, it’s so good
That’s how good the MCU WAS!
Possibly my favorite version of a villain correctly deducing Spider-Man's identity in a live action movie, tho Norman figuring it out in Raimi's first Spider-Man film is pretty close.
Marvel used to know how to portray villains
Peter Tingle didn't tingle. His tingle tingles only when it's convenient for the plot, it seems.
Before the final battle in FFH, his senses came and went because the output was too much for him to handle. He said in Civil War, his homemade Spider-Man mask helped him to harass his enhanced senses and made him focus. After that, it was consistent.
This was absolutely horrifying,
Keaton is a legend
The fact that Spider-Man can crush this guy like an empty beer can and yet was so intimidated by his presence speaks volumes to how great a villain Vulture is. People forget, the scariest villain isn’t the one who can beat you up or use magic. The scariest villain is the one who has you figured out and can take away all that you love without so much as a blink of his eye. Peter is vulnerable because he is dating Vultures daughter and thus can’t just kill or cripple vultures without losing her. Vulture has nothing to stand between him and killing Peter and everyone he loves. I miss villains like this.
Scenes like this highlight why Clark Kent is such a good disguise, he acts so clumsy and goofy that its hard to see him as Superman. But Spiderman, despite wearing a full mask, breaks down and lets his inner Spiderman show during situations like this
Peter's non existent poker face
" you gotta get better at this part of the job"
Nwh Peter would be throwing hands on the spot
this stare 4:50 probably scarier than any other horror movies, the build-up of this whole scene is epic to make you anxious, michael keaton nailed it
- Don't mess with me, Spiderman.
- Why?
- Because I'm Batman!!!
- WHAT?!?!?
when he realizes he is spider-man, the traffic light turns red on his face! what a detail!
Brilliant use of lighting to really set the scary tone of the car ride. As soon as the dad found out the truth, that red light beamed on his face
I know this sounds like BS but I got the twist when the Washington scene was on TV; Keaton"s facial expression exile he watches the TV was subtly concerned. When he opened the door I was so stoked. 😅
Imagine a scene like the airport fight with bucky. Oh wow you have a gun, oops I crushed it sorry.
There's that Batman side Michael Keaton coming back when he's threatening Peter
Spider-Man dont mess with Batm- ahh I mean The Vulture now 😅
Every man that met their gfs dad recalled their ptsd.
I love that even in this scene, Tom Holland can't keep his secrets. 😂
This is the same guy that gets excited when there are new bathmats and Bed Bath and Beyond
This whole set of scenes was fucking excellent
Another reminder that the MCU took one of Spider-Man's more obscure/comical villains and turned him into a terrifying menace with a no-nonsense attitude.
I love how Peter's nervousness seems normal in-universe. Kid meeting his crush's Dad? Terrifying!
Everyone is so good in this. Excellent from beginning to end.
Vulture is actually pretty reasonable here
I love Michael Keaton
