With T’GAAL or any sharpener , including the Dahl, occasionally sharpen a number 2 graphite pencil just like you used in school ✏️. The graphite core has a fine grit and it cleans the oil/wax buildup off of the blades as well as sharpens the blade edges.
Yes please to part 3,maybe some metal effects like rust,or colour combinations to use for brass, copper, silver,or lead. Any of them would be a useful addition to my colouring techniques. I use metallic gel pens and although they look like the various metals they appear flat in the pictures, unlike the effects that can be achieved with pencils.
Ms Lady thank you so much for explaining this from 4 on about the importance of sharpening certain mediums, ive even shared your channel with a few of my adult coloring friends, soon as i started watching i shared!!! For myself Ive literally messed up a whole darn set of my Prisma pencils & I have so so many colorful coloring pencils from cheap to expensive & I literally stoped using my color pencils for this very reason, because i refused to keep destroying them, i was using pen & gears sharpener & another small one i paid like $11 for with was one of my smaller more portable ones they were okay but my leds kept breaking & now i see why, I will tell you one good hack i love doing with my cheaper coloring pencils or even my others, i take a felt cloth lay it under my pages that im coloring on & utilize a blender & OMG what it does to those colors is amazing I even do this with my color gel inks after they dry a little ... So I'll definitely be investing in this one..Now, What would you say would be a good use for my drawing Graphite pencils in sharping?
My first and number one piece of advice to everyone wanting to start coloring, if you are serious about it and want to make beautiful pieces of art, just go ahead and invest in the Prismacolor pencils and forget all the cheaper ones! I tried to save myself some money at first and I bought the Castle Arts soft touch pencils, and I regretted it almost instantly! They were half the price and nowhere near the quality that I was looking for! And honestly, they're not a bad pencil, you can make nice art work with them, but it comes with a lot more hard work and the Prismacolor pencils make it tremendously easier. The cheaper sets of pencils just cannot compete. I really wish I had just started off with buying the Prismacolor pencils because I ended up spending more because I bought the Castle Arts soft touch and then invested in the Prismacolor pencils. I definitely learned my lesson though! So even if you have to save money a little longer to get the Prismacolor pencils, I would recommend you do that rather than buying the cheaper ones now and end up not being happy with them!
Pamela, thank you so much for your videos! After years of not knowing how to color properly, just by watching one of your videos I finally got it and improved so much! Extremely helpful content you make :)
Of course, a Part 3! Love your videos❤️. They give confidence in starting with a blank image and coloring compared to my experiences of watching every color and every technique for an image. Both approaches help me learn.
I love your videos and your voice! ❤️ Sometimes I just listen on a old video and coloring or cleaning. 😂 even if I have seen the video I learning something new when I just listen. 🙈 And your voice make my anxiety go down. Maybe weird / creepy of me to say.. but you have saved my day more then ones. ☺️🙈
That is very sweet. Anxiety is not a fun thing to live with. I am so glad my videos help with that. I love this world of coloring. This is why we color too....so we can relax and just spend time with our colored pencils and other fun mediums.
Thanks for the video. I am so glad you recommended this sharpener, and I totally agree with you about the Tagal. I have not found a pencil the Dahl. 133 won't sharpen. I love it.
I’m working my way through this beginner series and these videos are really well done. Your explanations and demos are clear and easy to follow. I really appreciate your tips and recommendations, and how you show us multiple ways to do things. Thank you!
Everything was so great! I have been coloring for a few years now and I truly have learned a few things. Please come back with a third video I have been watching your videos and they are tremendously helpful.
I have only had prismacolors, I don’t know what o compare them too, today I’m gong to buy a new type. (Oil pencils?). Every time I watch someone color I jump up and get to it! Look fwd to watching more videos.
I had no idea I need to sharpen new pencils before using them. I also had been using them until blunt and I think I'm too heavy handed too. So these tips were very helpful. Regarding çrayons they are still my favourite thing to colour with.
I seldom watch videos that are more than a few minutes in length but yours are completely captivating. I just started coloring with pencils less than 2 months ago (I used to work with Staedtler pens and still do for some detail work) and your videos have been extremely helpful. The most important lesson I have learned is to apply color very gradually. Being an impatient person who wants to get things done quickly, this continues to be challenge. :)
Hi Elizabeth! There is an entire series on my channel. I have them all in a playlist. I think there are 18 or 19 videos now. You can find them here. ruclips.net/p/PLCV050IiJShqEVeTj3DF5vlRqk1beYopB
I definitely NEEDED this, thank you sooooo much! Things are clearer now to me! Will re-watch, just to be on the safe side. Virtual hug from Berlin Germany 👍😁🤗🇩🇪
I just had to say thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos! All of your videos are so helpful and have taught me so much. You have a great way of explaining and breaking things down that I have not found in other tutorials. Your facebook group is absolutely wonderful and friendly too!
If you do a part three I'd love to see how you color the flowers in the vases since they are so small. How will you get your three colors into such a small space as some of those flower petals and leaves. I'm a new subscriber btw and I'm loving your channel. Tysm for all the informative content. Ps would also like to see a tutorial on animals and particularly fur, feathers, and skin/hides. Thank you.
Thank you very much for sharing your tips and tricks of coloring. I do find them very useful even though I've been coloring for some years now I'm still learning something new everyday. I look forward to more videos from you. I'm glad I found your Channel happy coloring!
It has been requested over and over so I'll definitely be doing a Part 3. They take a lot of time to film and I always do a complete scripting of my ideas before filming so it will be a few days. I am so glad so many of you are loving these videos. As long as they are being enjoyed, I'll keep making them. Happy Coloring!
Thank you! I am learning a lot. I was ruining my Prismas by sharpening and breaking. Oops! Will we see this page completed? Looking forward to watching part 3.
My received my kalour color pencils yesterday and omg I love them better than the prismacolor pencils, the kalour pencils are a lot smoother and blends better.
I’ve been coloring since I was a kid. I love that adult coloring books are a thing I find it to be such a great stress reliever and a way to get my mind off of things. I just found your channel and I’m loving it. Thanks for the tips, can’t wait for more!
I'm so glad you're enjoying my channel. Thanks for watching! Definitely more to come in this series. Part 3 was just posted yesterday. Have a great day.
I am so glad you're loving your Dahle 133. I actually made an entire video dedicated to the Dahle 133 showing people how to use it. I hope that solves some of the issues where it doesn't come with any instructions. Happy Coloring!
I really love these two videos! I learned tons of information. I followed along and did my best on my own Johanna page. Of course, yours is so much prettier than mine.🥰 I showed my daughter (who has art skills) and she was so impressed with all I learned. She thought I did it myself and I had to tell her about you and how much I enjoy your videos! 💓
I use the little silver hand held pencil sharpener that is made by Prismacolors. As song as the bade is sharp ( I keep 3 or 4 in my desk)...I have never had a Prismacolor break on me. Plus it looks exactly like the one you did with your Dahl (???)...my point being ..for me anyway...as long as those blades are sharp then so at a my beloved Prismacolors and Holbiens. I got 1 so sharp one time it actually slipped in my hand and brought blood it was so sharp. Like you said though...it is more difficult to sharpen that way and much slower.. But I've been using them over 2 years now so I've gotten much faster Loving your videos.
This was exactly what I needed to see. I am very heavy handed with my Prismas and got bad results. I need to practice doing a lighter touch. It does work. I also heard that it is better to color with the Prisma in a circular motion for better coverage. Is this true? Thanks for your videos.
I am so glad my video was helpful. The motion you use with our pencils really depends on the look you're going for. There are many different techniques you can use. If I'm trying to create textures, then I don't want to go in a circular motion, but rather strokes. Sounds like another video idea to me. 😊
Hello Pamela. It's Mocha again. Thank you so much for doing a part 2. I had a a couple of questions, why there were so many grays. And what was the difference between cool and warm; and you totally answered my questions. Thank you. However, I am still unsure about the French Gray? Would you only use it with netural colors? These 2 videos have been awesome. I love your teaching style. Tfs Oh yeah, I just purchased those 2 pencil Sharpeners today. The other day, an electric pencil Sharpener ate a lot of one of my Prismacolor pencils. Thank goodness it wasn't my favorite color. But, nonetheless, my feelings were still hurt. 😢
OMG OMG OMG I truly cannot thank you enough for this video (i.e. using sharpener) !!! THANK YOU First I couldn't figure it out and I was making the tips to long (sharp) and wasting the pencils! :(
Love the tip about not limiting yourself to watching one artist's style. Do you have any recommendations for other colorists that you watch who have a different style than you?
I would Love to watch you do as much of this page as you wanted to.. as a Tutorial... can we buy a color wheel or something? I would LOVE to learn any info on colors and contrasts I don’t have the fancy pencils yet, so mine aren’t marked anything not even the colors.. Lol I have spent so much $$ lately on this hobby that I will ask for some good pencils for Mother’s Day..
Thank you for this great video! I have polychromos and I don’t think pulling the colour out works with those, the pigment doesn’t move much. But I can sure use all the other tips.
The Polychromos are oil-based and work better by layering. They do blend very well and are a wonderful pencil. I just got my 120 set and will need to do some videos with them. I was working with the 60 set only for the last 3 years so I was so happy to finally have all the colors. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils ooh, you’re fast! Yes, the technique is different with polychromos, but the rest still applies. Looking forward to videos from you with polychromos.
i just started, and im just using the same pencil, but with different pressures, so i still get a 3d effect ^^ (i got really bad pencils, so can't really get that many layers though)
Your the best thank you so much for these videos my coloring has improved 10x after watching your videos these improve your coloring skills videos are a gem in the coloring world thanks so much for caring enough to help us learn and improve your such a great colorist thanks again
This is such a sweet comment. Thank you so much. I am so glad you're enjoying my videos. As long as everyone keeps watching them and enjoying them, I will continue to keep creating. Happy Coloring!
Your work is stunning, and I'm SO glad to have found your channel! !!!!! I'm working my way through this series! When you keep adding more and more and more layers, how DO you know when to stop?????
I am so glad you’re enjoying this series. When you’re laying down layers, you will know to stop when the way to the paper is gone. You can either burnish the colors together or not. It’s up to you depending on the look you’re trying to achieve on your coloring page.
Hi! I'm a new subscriber. I would love a part 3. I enjoyed this one immensely. Your coloring is amazing 👏🏼 Thank you for the tips. I can't wait to watch more from your channel. 🥰👍🏼
Welcome to my channel. I am so glad you're enjoying these videos. Here is the link for the entire playlist for this series. I just released Part 15 so you have lots of content to take in. Happy Coloring! ruclips.net/p/PLCV050IiJShqEVeTj3DF5vlRqk1beYopB
I am fairly new to colored pencils and enjoy your videos a lot. Your finished works seem to have a glossier finish than mine. Is there something I should be putting on the colorings when finished?
Thank you for so much information and teaching ... I have the Dahle and every once in a while I do have a pencil tip break inside. Have you found an easy way to unclog it. I usually just try to shake it out. Also. I understand picking colors for objects. ; however. I am not good at creating an interesting overall color effect for the whole page.
Yes. Unscrew the Dahle from the back (the black part that lays against the back of the sharpener). This will remove the blade from the inside and allow you to remove your broken pencil lead.
Love watching and learning from your videos! One question though: underneath the basket, on your shelf, there are some perpendicular while lines that do not accept color. I've noticed them from time to time on some of my coloring book pages. What are those, and is there a way to color thru them?
Do you have a fantastic eye! I noticed it while I was coloring and the only thing that I can assume is that because the book is so much older, possibly it had gotten scratched in that area in someway. If you scratch some thing on a coloring page, and then try to put colored pencil over it, it will not accept the color. I wondered the same thing as I was coloring, but had no idea that it showed up that well on camera.
Hi Kari, this is Part 3 of the series. ruclips.net/video/JTmeoYf2O2g/видео.html There is a whole playlist here. ruclips.net/p/PLCV050IiJShqEVeTj3DF5vlRqk1beYopB
Thank you so much Pamela you are a wealth of information and I would love to see your third video! You are a beautiful colorist as well too! 🦋💜🦋 I do have one question and that is when you first open your brand new pencil set even though the pencils are already sharpened we still use the pencil sharpener? Yes... I purchased the Dahle133 and absolutely love 💕 it and I thought the Kum was great! ❤️☺️
Yes. Even though they look as though they're sharpened, you should give them a fresh sharpen with your sharpener. This will help remove the protective wax that is over the lead so that the pigment goes down on your coloring page or paper. I am so glad you love the Dahle 133....best pencil sharpener ever!
I am learning so much from you these videos are great 👍I would love a guide for colouring wood or other everyday objects that are in a lot of books, would also love help with figuring out how to colour I kerby rosanes books as I find them soon overwhelming 😊
I’m so glad you’re learning from my videos. There is so much to learn here. I actually have a video for wood texture. You can find it here; ruclips.net/video/IhPCWfdl-BI/видео.html
@@PamelasPassionforPencils thank you will look forward to learning more. Would you consider doing a video about taking on a picture in one of kerbs books as I feel really overwhelmed with them and often don't know where to start thank you soo much for sharing your tips 😊
Super awesome tutorial Pamela!! Finally a colorist I can follow without feeling like a dweeb. LOL New subscriber thanks to Ann at a colorful life. I was loving my m&it's but I can't find replacement blades at a reasonable price, most places on Amazon are charging upwards of $15 +shipping. Off to put your sharpener in my cart. Thanks again for a great video. 🌈💎💖
I’m so happy to have you here and even happier that you’re enjoying my videos. Did Ann give me a shoutout in one of her videos? I just absolutely love watching her. She is so sweet and I could listen to her talk all day. The Dahle sharpener is only $11 so a real bargain. It’s wonderful and will last a long time. Welcome to my channel.
Thanks for the helpful video! I love my Dahl as well. However, I cannot get either the kum or the alvin brass bullet to work on my polys without splitting the wood casing. I have even bought replacement blades without any luck.
With T’GAAL or any sharpener , including the Dahl, occasionally sharpen a number 2 graphite pencil just like you used in school ✏️. The graphite core has a fine grit and it cleans the oil/wax buildup off of the blades as well as sharpens the blade edges.
Good idea!
True story
Thanks 🙏🫵👌👋
I know this is an older video but it is great. I had stopped coloring for about 5 years and needs some refresher.
Same, well started back seriously this year. Tried to get back into it last year, but got to overwhelmed by buying supplies & not using them.
Wow, so glad I found your channel. I was a flat colourer hahaha so can't wait to try these techniques.
The comment on using a graphite#2 is absolutely correct. It works in other sharpeners as well. Great video. Thank you for your teachings. Love it.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it. Happy Coloring!
Ms Lady thank you so much for explaining this from 4 on about the importance of sharpening certain mediums, ive even shared your channel with a few of my adult coloring friends, soon as i started watching i shared!!! So I'll definitely be investing in this one..Now, What would you say would be a good use for my drawing Graphite pencils in sharping?
Ive had the same Tgaal for years and i still love it!!!
Hi Vonda, here is the entire playlist. There are ten videos. I am working on #11 right now. ruclips.net/p/PLCV050IiJShqEVeTj3DF5vlRqk1beYopB
Love the tip about not limiting yourself to watching one artist's style. Do you have any recommendations for other colorists that you watch who have a different style than you?
Love your tutorial! I’ve learned so much!
I’m so glad it was helpful. Happy coloring!
Love watching your channel. Have learnt a lot. Mostly colour greyscale but am trying some line art.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying my videos. Happy coloring!
Wow, this is an awesome video! I never knew what the grays were used for before, now I know, thank you! 🎨💜
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, I have same problem with sharpener.
Whelp! Hopefully I can get an impartation! ❤️
Learned a lot! Thank you! Love more of these tips!!!
There is an entire playlist now. I think we are on video #20 now.
Pamela another great video. If you do a similar tutorial could you please address getting the most color in the smallest areas. Thank you again❣️
I think I know what you mean, but can you be a bit more detailed? Which small areas? Are you referring to this page I am coloring in this series?
@@PamelasPassionforPencils yes in this same picture. The leaves and flower areas are very tiny. Would you use fewer colors in those areas?
Great tutorial, I’ve learned a lot!
Very interesting yes please do more
There is definitely more to come!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Wow! Thank you so much 🥰👍🏼
Enjoying these videos...any chance for more??!!! 😀👍
There is more to come. Have you watched the entire series yet? There are six or seven videos now in the series.
Enjoyed this and will watch more!
I’m so glad you’re enjoying my videos. Happy coloring!
@@PamelasPassionforPencils thanks. I have not figured out how to do that. Lol
Great video.Please do part 3
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Part 3 is coming soon! ❤
Would love to see a part 3
Hi Kari, this is Part 3 of the series. ruclips.net/video/JTmeoYf2O2g/видео.html
There is a whole playlist here. ruclips.net/p/PLCV050IiJShqEVeTj3DF5vlRqk1beYopB
I did catch your video, thanks so much
You are so welcome
Super awesome tutorial Pamela!! Finally a colorist I can follow without feeling like a dweeb. LOL
New subscriber thanks to Ann at a colorful life.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils yes Ann did give you a shoot out. Dahle is ordered and on the way lol
Please do continue this series. I am learning so much. Thank you have a great day!
It will continue! I'm so glad you're enjoying it. Happy Coloring!
3 please💜
I’m gonna start working on it today...seems everyone wants more! 😀
Part 3 please
There will be a part 3 for sure! It’s been requested over and over again. 💕
Pamela, what is the purpose of the highlight you leave on the image? Like what does that highlight represent?
Thanks for the helpful video! I love my Dahl as well. However, I cannot get either the kum or the alvin brass bullet to work on my polys without splitting the wood casing. I have even bought replacement blades without any luck.
Oh no! Polys are soooo expensive too! I would just use the Dahle on your Polys if it works better. It works wonderfully on mine.
@@PamelasPassionforPencils Yes, definitely! I use the Dahl for most everything. But I do wish I could find a small portable one that works for me.
What is the lightest color you used in the combination for the small blue flower pot on the middle bookshelf please?
Part 3 please!
Here is Part 3. I believe I am on Part 8 now. ruclips.net/video/JTmeoYf2O2g/видео.html
I have had literally no breakage with my prismacolors and I've had them for over a year at least
That’s wonderful.
