I've wanted to contact you for several years now, please tell me what you think about my ideas on www.onemindrestoration.org. I have so much in common with this Jon Butcher, all I have to do is meet a girl like he met. And he found that girl long before I found any girl to even consider liking me. Well, I can do without her. Please, would you consider my ideas? You can contact me through the About link, then Feedback.
Wow this is an amazing concept. I'm always looking for great parenting information. Like Steven covey and the 7 habits. But this one follows my beliefs in parenting and upgrades them. It levels up my thought process. I always thought school systems turn us into sheep and sets us up for failure in life. Sheeple in the sheep factory.
Wow, This is exactly what I believe in!!! I have three kids, creative, intelligent, humorous... I asist every day how the school is cutting their wings off... Now I'm working hard at myself to be the leader for my children that I have the mission to be! I want to be part of a new education system, that empowers children to nourish their talents and potential. This is so inspiring, thanks for brodcasting this!!!
I love this so much thank you. It's exactly how I want to teach my child and I've been very clear about that to everyone in my life from the start of my pregnancy. However, there's still so many closed minds in my family who totally disagree with me but now I have your video to show them. Absolutely wonderful. I'm a traveller at heart and I believe teaching children whilst travelling is definitely a richer experience for them, something I will definitely continue to do.
Teaching is a highly skilled profession. As a teacher for ages 3 to 10, I teach children how to read, taking them from being unable to recognise a single word to fluent reading, how to write beginning with how to hold a pencil to writing intelligent pieces, how to count and understand number. How to interpret and analyse information both written and mathematical. It takes years of intense teaching and learning for humans to master these incredible life skills which allow us to access the world and engage with it at a high level. It takes skilled professionals for children to learn these skills at the level they need to succeed in this competitive world. So lets have a thumbs up for the amazing positive work most teachers put in!
We took our kids out of kindegarten and 1st grade and its been the best thing we ever did! We are all so much closer now and our daughter who is in 1st grade is studying 3rd and 5th grade material at home. Give it a try!
so true. we learn so much useless things at school, instead of learning to discover what you're good at, what you love to do and follow that. or learn how to be good parents, good life partners, good, fullfilled persons in general.
It's true, in the eyes of your children, their mother and father is their world. I had been researching on parenting for a few years now, although I am not yet a mother, I really wish my mum and dad knew about it. That they have the power to re-create and redefine the world for their children. :)) I feel when they know this, they would see themselves and their children in a different light.
The Croatia project is something I do every day in my classroom. We have PSHE subject where he teach about emotional development, solving problems, setting goals etc. So there are schools that are definitely more tuned in into modern culture.
John is right on! I taught my daughter how to read before started her preschool even though I wasn't a U.S. born. She is in middle school and got a 92.5% on her SAT verbal language practice test.
OMG OMG OMG.......I am all about this. I homeschooled my kids for 25 years and put these things into practice with my four kids a long time ago. I now have 4 beautiful happy productive adults living life to the fullest. Our youngest is in college on a scholarship to get a degree in astronomy and astrophysics which was a passion she discovered at 11 when she started climbing on to the barn roof and looking at the stars. Now she is living her dream with a contract from NASA! I have so much information I would love to share with people. How do I get on board this train of sharing with people about how education can be successful when they let their kids lead or keep the curiosity sparked in them? I am now an empty nester and my nest is too empty......I want to somehow share with others how education can be so different from what the norm is in our country today.
Hello Madam! Your story is so beautiful. So I’m still single, but I’m incredibly interested in homeschooling also. My only concern is, if these kids only learn these off-hand subjects as mentioned in the video, which are absolutely wonderful, but they don’t learn actual school subjects, how then do they take SATs successfully to get into university?
@@grace_andlove kids were born curious. When we nurture that curiosity learning becomes natural and easier. Example; if you read to a child everyday, eventually they will want to read on their own. Now the parent needs to build the bridge between the knowledge they already have and the knowledge they want to attain. Their curiosity will motivate them. Check out the book “The Having of Wonderful Ideas” and constructivist pedagogy.
Thank you very much for this amazing video and insights. As a single entrepreneur and freedom lover myself I was simply afraid of bringing a child into this society. Your guidance and example gives me great hope and provides an exemplary resource for my future self and family. Thanks
I see education as a smorgasbord of ideas. Taste them all (thank you State based education system)then follow your passion to higher education. I admire your and Missy's commitment to your progeny ; many paths. Regards Renny.
Thank you Jon & Vishen. Obviously it's not possible for everyone(including myself) to follow your method, it was a great solution to today's complex education system though. We are forcing our kids into learning so many unwanted or unimportant things. I loved the idea of giving assignments on topics. This could be applied for various topics for all school subjects to make them learn faster and memorise easily.
Wow this is an amazing concept. I'm always looking for great parenting information. Like Steven covey and the 7 habits. But this one follows my beliefs in parenting and upgrades them. Excellent advice for adults especially parents beyond careful home training free from useless waste. The best private school is at home. It is better to be raised to be a successful entrepreneur that knows what is a work/life balance then a person who has to be hindered and fight absurdities at work and social life.
Beautiful video. Obviously not possible for everyone to follow suit but nevertheless I found the seed ideas super inspiring. Thanks for being part of the crucial dialogue of change! @@lucidreflectioninanebulous4589 I'm not saying you said this. Just a quote that I believe is powerful...Never say "I can't" as that way of thinking closes your mind to further thinking. Very interesting, and I wish I could home school my kiddos! but what can we do when my husband and I both have to work? and one of our kiddos has special needs that require PT, OT, SLP and other therapies that won't be provided if we don't send him to school? Great ideas, but I have to ask a question. Who is going to teach the child from a ghetto with no father and a drug addicted mother who works as a prostitute? The child that has no adult guidance, no inspiration, and no love. Where will those children find anything other than misery and despair? What other lifeline is available to those children other than school?
Palmetto Purist I think and believe we all have the ability to know who is a ghetto father and a female prostitute, I know we have the choice to pick who we want as a partner. It all starts with the parents
u r right. Not much can help them. And there are too many lost in the cracks and fissures created by current society. I guess that's where school IS important. The hopes of meeting that 1 teacher who REALLY cares and inspires and supports positive change.
Online Yoga Teaching what are you talking about??? The American schools teach nothing that is favorable to your descendants, it's up to you to teach them, or is it too hard that you rather let someone do your job
The level of contempt and ignorance displayed here by Mr. Butcher towards education and the school system's role in a child's life is disappointing, as is the nodding in agreement by Mr. Lakhiani. Correct, school is not for every family. Correct, some families can provide a better educational experience for their children. I have many friends who chose to home school for various reasons; their kids are amazing role models and very, very bright. I also believe that common core and budget cuts are at the center of a flawed -- but not completely broken -- school system, leading us parents to fill in gaps and supplement our children's education outside of school. But what's sad about Mr. Butcher is how he chose to argue for home schooling by pushing a misguided, old argument that schools only teach fundamentals, structure and discipline (i.e. "they teach kids to be sheep and to work in factories"). That is a very, very lazy critique (talk about being a sheep!). School is not about memorizing things or learning, apparently, stuff you'll never use. Children in school learn social skills, communication skills, responsibility, time management, presentation skills, teamwork, critical thinking, respect, ethics, leadership and so much more -- all of which are important life skills that Mr. Butcher inexplicably believe children do not learn. They also get to sample all kinds of subjects and discover things about themselves: what they like, what they don't like, what engages them, what bores them, what they are interested in, what they are fascinated by and what they are passionate about. As an example, Mr. Butcher seemed very proud that his child learned to research and give a report on Croatia's history, all on the child's own with no involvement from himself or his wife. Yet, in a school, his child would have been taught modern research skills. He also would have learned how to put together a report and work as a team. He would have presented his report to an entire class as opposed to a couple of family members. A teacher would have been able to fact check and ensure that he didn't plagiarize his report. These are all important things that children learn in school, which Mr. Butcher seems to either thumb his nose at or straight up ignore. What I will agree with is his overall message: we parents need to take an active role in our child's education and future, ensuring that they can apply what they're learning -- and how -- to their daily life and passions. School provides the foundation; it's up to us to build on it.
I agree with your feedback. I too was disappointed by Mr. Butcher's presentation of his blanket opinion, and Mr. Vishen's credulity at the 11 minute mark. My child's public school teaches entrepreneurship and money management, mindfulness and meditation, and many essential educational subjects - 3rd grade!
Absolutely, however they may discover what they truly want in an environment more conducive to their imagination. You dont need to start med school until college years.

Help me understand you. First you say there is nothing valuable to learn with traditional education system like igneous rocks and others and then you ask your child to learn the history of Croatia from 300 B.C. What is the difference in your approach. That history is not going to help your kid either.
But the example of his son researching on Croatian history is similar to that of the general school Learning, where kids get assignments and have to do it themselves. I'm not saying he is wrong but this point of his isn't much different from the traditional approach.
If you neede help, Adi Bhutani, I can give you some! Meaning and purpose is the key here. While descovering Croatia by yourself as you are already there, you understand every day WHY. And you can do it with joy, without anybody blocking your time in some classroom-cellblocks. They never said that school isn't valuable per se. They just noticed that the (mainstream) schoolsystem as it is, doesn't support people to discover and develop their true potential! On the contrary, history, art-history, culture IS very important, they see them as important, not as a dry assigments in school, but as a "threedimensional learning experience" through traveling and interpersonal encounters.
We also raise our kids in a similar manner and I feel this: Our kids are learning that they are valuable. That their time is valuable. Growing up when you are told what to do and what to learn all the time you loose yourself and begin to think your time, and you are not valuable. This raises unhappy adults not in touch with their life purpose who usually end up having to heal deep pains or on medication. Treating a child as an individual with their own likes and values and supporting them in their own dreams raises kids who know their purpose. My son told me, I can learn anything I want because of the internet. Also kids learn so much through experience and travel. We all do. To rethink the idea of education is very far outside of the box and took me years to grasp. I have been on this parenting journey for 20 years. We have been in these educational structures for a long time. It took me years of anguish of wondering if I was making the right choices to break free from conventional education. I have 5 kids that range age 20 to 5. Two out on their own and thriving. Living their dreams. I know it is hard to comprehend but I can say that a lot of love and experience is what has helped a lot of parents break free from the brick and morter school system. Not to say if the kids want to go to a school, they can't. They can. It is their choice and typically when our kids have chosen school they have been much more engaged and excited then kids who have had to go their whole lives. I hope this helps your understanding. Much Love.
He is not as intelligent as he posts himself to be. Take what you can and leave him behind. Self glorification is always the sign of the damaged ego. Damaged ego people and not the most intelligent. My answer would be, the difference is that he teaches them what HE thinks is important.. So if you have a clear idea of what that is for you, then you can approach it that way. Let me give you an example. My 10 yr old has always been obsessed with weapons. When he turned 6 I took him to the Musee de l’armee in Paris, we saw all the military gadgets and I asked him to choose his favorite floor. He chose WWII. So I focused his education on WWII for the next while. Teaching him about everything that is important about that time, in human, tactical, political, and militar areas. Then we met with a gentleman who was 90 who has been in the Resistance. By name Lapin Blanc. And my son interviewed him. My little one loves dancing and gymnastics so her core right now centers around the human body. The different layers of body structure and muscles, and also what makes one kind of gymnastics different to another. What kinds of workouts would benefit one kind versus another from the perspective of the human body. And we learn about the countries where great gymnasts have come from. So in this way you flesh it out. The children are in school all their life because life comes at us ready for lessons. But they are only “in school” for 3 hrs a day. Math, grammar, and specific knowledge. A few times a week music and foreign languages (they speak 2 besides English). That’s the difference in the approach. Good luck 🍀

Palmetto Purist if we can teach kids this way it will eventually make a system based on compassion.

The public education system in California shut down my sons Business he was operating on campus.
It is not in every parent's means to live extraordinary lives themselves.
Is Missy his dog?
Oh my God , I own such heaven thinking... I thought I am wierd 😢😢😢
John got right 👍👍👍
Nicely put!
John only looks about 30 years old
I honestly love this idea. But what if your kid wants to be a doctor or a surgeon one day? He will need a degree.

This much you get to do in schools, already.
Good luck 🍀
