Seems to me that the original saw is more of a hand saw replacement than a reciprocating saw. Looks like you get cleaner, more precise cuts at the cost of speed.
The blade height also helps make a square and clean cut.

i have that B&D sawzall and its actually fairly competent. least for everything ive needed it for from PVC pipe to a car muffler and a floor joist. I mean its not great, but for the average owner whos only gonna use it like 2 times a year its decent
While I totally agree that it is more of a toy than a tool, having a solid work bench makes so much more of a difference than you would ever imagine. 90% of the tools energy is being soaked up by the table.

That battery powered B&D has half the battery that you use with the Milwaukee. Use a 4AH double packed battery for the B&D and it will be a lot stronger. Larger battery does not only mean larger capacity but also larger current which directly translates into engine torque.
I have the same saw and it is a world of a difference comparing the 1.5AH with the 4AH... Same with my weed trimmer..
He doesn’t need a sturdier work bench, cuz the the Milwaukee still way out performed them both with the very same set up.
If he gets a work bench and then the B&D brand perform better as a result of it the Milwaukee will then do !EVEN BETTER! as well, with the RATIO of performance being the SAME as this video.

Edit: I was just thinking about it and in the real world it wouldnt even matter. Everything you cut will be in a different scenario where sometimes clamping it to a bench vise would be impractical or impossible.
Black and decker is mean for the random repair around the house that happens two or three times annually. The time it takes to do the job isn't crucial because it shouldn't be a daily use too or job site tool. Its meant to just do good enough to finish a task.
I think the cheap one with that thick blade is kinda interesting. Seems like it makes a straighter cut due to its thickness not allowing it to walk as easily.
One thing that helps when cutting metal is to give a few brief squeezes of the trigger to sort of notch yourself a cut in. Then you can go ham and finish the cut. I do this when cutting EMT to prevent the sawzall from skipping side-to-side
And do more of an angle not right across the top haha
Hmm, I’m going to have to try this.
I suspect that the trouble clamping the metal is due in large part to Milwaukee blades being typically pretty aggressive. Without the power to take the aggressive cut, it just grabs a lot.
Tyler. PLEASE buy a sturdier bench. You can tighten the clamps all you want, but if they work surface is moving around, you might as well just not use clamps and use your hand instead.

It's not the bench though. If it was, then the Milwaukee saws would've performed just about the same way. The bouncing comes from the saw being too lightweight for the low torque being applied. You can only press down so hard on the back end of the fulcrum until the blade just becomes stopped up. Bench would've made at most like a 10% difference. Sturdier benches only really matter when you're using heavier materials. The main point being made is that these saws are marketed for home use, not big workshops. Not every home has this giant dedicated workshop readily available and these saws were advertised to fill that niche. And they suck at even accomplishing that.

Ugh, it's not about speed, but cleanness of cut. Compare the cut from the first saw, to the sawsall. The first saw cuts almost perfectly clean, no chips, no tears in the wood, the sawsalls (both the B&D and Milwaukee) chew up the wood.
If you're after a clean cut, a sawsall ain't the tool

You know, I agree with the general sentiment that results for all of the saws would be better if Tyler was using a proper workbench. But there have been so many people saying it already, that I get the distinct feeling that next week we're gonna see a video where he bought an expensive and sturdy table just so he can test the saws and prove that the B+D electric handsaw thing is still worse at cutting wood even with the table.
I gotta ask.... Is it really about speed? I would think that the quality of the cut is important as well. A sawzall type saw is not going to leave a clean-cut whereas the other one might.
sawsalls are mostly used for demo work, so speed is nice. if I wanted a good cut I'd go for a circular saw.
some variables to this, type and sharpness of blade, steady hand, maybe type of material being cut but i might be completely wrong...

As for that black & decker saw, you have to use a longer blade. And you also need to know how to use it efficiently -- you need to let the front fender touch the material you're cutting.
Part 4, b&d Sawzall use a wood specific blade, show that it can outperform the proprietary blade
You would think they'd make the battery powered more powerful . Because as soon as those batteries start losing power, the saw performance will also drop. So having more power would take longer for that to happen. Knowhattamean?

@@righty-o3585 the problem with battery tech is that it's almost always outsourced to the lowest bidder for these lower end tools. So every lithium cell is 3.7-4.2v charged but the amount of run time (mah) varies cell to cell, company to company. In a standard 20v battery pack there are either 5 or 10 cells(5 in series or 2 sets of 5 in parallel) and the average cheap cell is $6 consumer cost plus the housing and electronics comes out to about the same price as the entire black and decker tool at around $50-$100. So you have to figure that these guys are getting huge wholesale discounts or using total garbage battery packs.

@@kellypg Ahhh , well there you go. I don't know anything about batteries really. My original comment was kind of a suggestion as a question lol if that makes sense. I get all my power tools corded for that exact reason. Have full power all the time
@@righty-o3585 fair enough. Almost every battery pack uses 18650 lithium batteries in them if you wanted to price check. You can actually rebuild then yourself without too much work.
And that's a good enough reason. I have corded and battery for most everything because I like the freedom of cordless but sometimes they just can't do the job.

Sawzalls only cut nice if you take your time ...... its not really about what cuts faster , its work smarter not harder .... the sawzall will do all the work for you if you just take your time . The other saw requires you to put in effort

I've used a black and decker drill for like 4 yrs now. Deff not the best, but it still does what I need it to around my house all these years and only costed $20🤷♂️

I agree. That table's vibrations must be absorbing so much energy from the tools that he tests or uses. A heavy bench and a decent vise.

Sometimes using a power tool isn't about speed but convenience. For some, a power tool offers the ability to complete a task when their hands and arms don't work as well. The vibration and strength needed for the Sawzall type tool may not be what someone can or wants to handle. The electric saw offers a smooth cut with the least amount of effort.

You seem to be in need of a bench vise, maybe you get some and test them out for holding strength and other aspects.
A point has been made regardless. If you buy the cheap stuff you'll forever be compromising with the tool, Milwaukee ripped through as good as my Ryobi does so I'm impressed. If you want a good cut while still on the relatively cheap it'll be a Ryobi you buy.

The B&D impact driver is pretty good. Not the strongest, but it will drive your basic drywall and deck screws with ease . It’ll drive 3/8 inch by 3 1/2 inch lags but probably nothing bigger. My brother has had his B&D tools 4 years or so, and has been able to renovate pretty much his entire house with his tools doing everything he’s asked them to and more than he should have done with them. But they still work

I've used the saw for three years, it works fine. You gotta get longer wood-specific blades, which I just knew to do. Also, you are better served to cut into the corners and maintain your grip, then adjust to cut into the new opposing corner, as the saw seems to perform better when it's cutting that way. There are other things about his approach, but phone typing sucks. If you can't afford something expensive, and you have the patience to figure out how to work it, the muscle to apply some elbow grease, and the common sense to buy some specified blades, this saw is a perfectly useable middle-of-the road tool. I've cut 8-9in trees down with it. It's good for the money.

tbf i think part of your issue with the cordless version was pressure youre putting. I think you may have been quite forceful and with power being a limiting factor its not ideal. So if you let up a bit it might help. 🙂 i have a b&d impact. Its not great. But it aint terrible either. It can actually strip a bolt if youre not careful 😅 anyway. Good vid. Its entertaining seeing you do weird stuff

Black & Decker was once top of the line. Now they are just a shell of what they once were.
For homeowner that doesn't need a day to day tool, the black and decker will do the job. Plus they will probably not care or know how fast black and decker compared to the milwaukee will be. I have milwaukee and some mist decker tools and those are the ones that I hardly use but from time to time it's their when needed.

And id really like to see it in comparison to Milwaukee. Lowes sells them...also menards has a brand called master force...was considering that b4 i purchased Metabo. A possible reason for the b and d sawzall not liking the metal is maybe the Milwaukee blade was aggressive because it's efficient when you have the power of the Milwaukee but maybe because the b and d had less power it just bounced instead of digging in. Not saying you should do it again, just offering a possible answer
No reciprocating saw can be fairly evaluated on that $15 table that moves as much as the motor

I have a Milwaukee, and use the BD one as a beater. One day I threw a Diablo demo blade on the BD and it kicked ass on dismantling 7 pallets on one charge.. I was a bit stunned myself, but hey... It got it done!
Can you please build a nice wood bench and attach a bench vice to it would make a lot of your videos easier to film and not have everything shake apart

This is exactly why I haven't bought Black & Decker in years! Their quality went to crap and they seem to have no plans on changing that. If you want a good "budget" tool, Ryobi has some decent stuff.

This was definitely funnier than the other attempt on testing this
It seems like a different POV is that all 3 saws got the job done. Sure, if you pay 3x as much for a tool it should work better / faster, but if you’re a home gamer that uses a tool every once in a blue moon, why spend a ton on tools that just collect dust? Also, I wonder if the B&D recip saw would have worked better on metal if contact was made between the blade and the cutting surface before the trigger was pulled. That’s the approach taken with the Milwaukee and once the saw teeth started to bite both recip saws took ~5 seconds to make the cut.
the goofy one also makes a much straighter cleaner cut in wood because it has a deeper, less aggressive blade. very much a niche tool that most people don't have a good use for.
A good sawsall is not made with angled handles, or body. it is made as straight as possible such as the DeWalt is designed. If not, then it can't saw "ALL" because you can't saw things as flush as possible.
I'd like to see @tylertube try the black n decker matrix drill with all the attachments
to be fair the powered hand saw one might be designed more for cleaner, straighter cuts. like for trim or something, but I have to admit a $50 chop saw would do better than this and I'm not at all voting for that saw or black and decker in general.
chop saws don't fit in awkward corners as well, though.
@@kenbrown2808 generally you would cut the trim perfectly to size before fitting it but i see your point, by then you would probably want a multitool though, which are only like another 30 bucks from harbor freight and surprisingly last awhile.

But yes, that's not an all purpose tool.
for a tool that you're going to use all the time, sure these Black and Deckers wont hold up like a Milwaukee but they definitely have their place. If you need that tool that day to complete a job, this is what you buy

I use the Black+Decker Matrix system for my handyman company, and have used it for heavier construction outfits and it runs fine.
It's not as strong as Milwaukee, and such but this system works well enough for my business needs.

Its simple really. Just get yourself proper gear for what ever you do. If you completely broke and need anything that does the job somehow then low end gear will do. However its not what you really need. People just get yourself bit more saves and get good gear. Last for longer and saves time and energy. Nice to see those videos at times.

Other than that black and decker was a great manifacture who made real work machines like i have a 20 year old angle grinder and electric drill and they still work today bud now the new black and deckers aren't the same as before
