Personally, I thought the French opening ceremony was dismal. - South Korea introduced as North Korea,
    - the last supper re-enactment,
    - The boat parade of nations,
    - the non French people as singers (Canadian and American).
    - the playing of the wrong anthem for the South Sudanese.

The Bishop of Oswestry has written a message to Her Excellency the Ambassador of France concerning the Opening Ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games:
    Your Excellency,
I wish to express in the strongest terms the revulsion I felt, along with very many millions of Christians worldwide, at the scenes from the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris. The mockery of Da Vinci's The Last Supper was an appalling and offensive error on the part of those whose responsibility it was to represent France to the world. What ought to have been a celebration of the nobility and beauty of French culture, and the all-embracing spirit of the Olympic Movement, became at the organisers' hands an international broadcast of blasphemy which has done France grave dishonour. No one should be in any doubt that Da Vinci's depiction of the Last Supper of the Lord, because of its historical and devotional significance to Christians, is emblematic of the Holy Eucharist itself. To subject this image to such mockery was to ridicule what it depicts - the gift by Jesus Christ of himself to the Church in the Holy Eucharist. It is simply unthinkable that the organisers of the Opening Ceremony would ever have considered ridiculing an equivalent rite, image, or event of any other religion in this way.
I respectfully ask you to ensure that these comments are passed on to those with the authority to hold the individuals responsible to account.
    Faithfully yours,
    ✠Paul Oswestriensis

Chair of Forward in Faith no less. He should hire Dr Who to covey his displeasure to Jan van Bijlert who painted "The Feast of the Gods" in 1635 with (apparently) more than a passing similarity to Leonardo's Last Supper (1495). Clearly the Bishop's academic background in Mediaeval English failed to alert him to the history of art - or French decadence!

Dear Kevin and George you missed the big tell in the various interviews in the video from Rector Willaim Taylor of St Helens Bishopgate . That a current Kings Counsel and retired High Court Judge agreed to be interviewed and were fully supportive of this step surely has some meaning .The Alliance have I am sure a very solid long term legal framework for these steps and the ones coming in the future .This is just one of early steps towards a seperate province while staying in the C of E they are not going to leave. The situation legally is vastly different in UK than for other countries Churches as this State Church. The real telling question from House of Bishops and General Synod is they refused to publish the Legal Opinion. That they refused seems to give credence that legal opinion is not likely favourable to those supporting LLF . These Alliance churches are strong and are both well funded and have strong leadership resources. Bless those who took the step and those of Alliance churches and leadership. There has been 3 provinces before in C of E I suggest to you this is likely to happen again.

I believe in doing things "decently and in order" and therefore I think that in general presiding at the Lord's Supper should be the province of ordained people, possibly deacons as well as priests. But I also believe that any group of Christians can gather, eat and drink in remembrence that Christ died for them, and thus have a "valid" communion or Eucharist. If people happen to believe in the Real Presence, to suggest that God requires a man-ordained priest to incant certain words over the elements before Christ enters them is simply indulging in Christianised superstitution. God is not limited by what man does.

I must admit that I regularly enjoy visting your mutually proclaimed "happy place", finding it informative, challenging and entertaining. However, I have to confess that I sometimes find your choice of subjects surprising and resultant conclusions even more so. It is usually when you branch outside topics generally linked in some way with christian order and practice. An example of this involved your conclusions about the tragic stabbings in Southport, England. For a number of reasons I was relieved that Kevin reined in the discussion about the alleged perpetrator, if only to keep George out of possible serious trouble. The discussion centred on the failure to disclose the identity, simply disclosing his age (17 years) and family origins (Rwanda). The fact that his name had not neen revealed was cited as proof that freedom of speech continued in Britain to be curtailed as was the 'fact' that it was reported in the US media (and not in England) that he was Muslim. It is very rare for the names of criminals under the age of 18 years to be revealed as it is rightly to protect them and is against the law endorsing Article 1 of the UN Convention and section 16 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999. At this point of revelation Kevin wisely pointed out that this had now been revealed "to all of England", and closed the discussion down. What followed in England was a chain of severe rioting in several cities on individual Muslims, mosques and halal butchers (to obtain knives) by members of the far right English Defence League fueled by online disinformation about the religious background of Axel Rudakabana, whose identity was revealed today to the presiding judge. I checked to see how many news outlets in USA were revealing details of the perpetrator's religion, and I couldn't find any, though I could by no means have examined all. I also checked to ascertain what proportion of Rwandan people are Muslims and discovered that it is generally believed to be around 2%. The reason I write is that the police in UK take very seriously any incitement to religious hatred, which careless conclusions can cause. Here in England, we sadly do have groups of people who will gather around tinder box situations, whose "happy place" is to cause anarchy and violence, which seems to be present in USA if the January 6 Capitol attack is anything to go by, Careless talk costs lives and does not warrant an automatic conclusion of the withdrawal of freedom of speech, especially as proportionately the boy's family are most unlikely to be Muslims, coupled with the fact that he has, for years, been diagnosed as having "an autism spectrum disorder ". It would be more positive if 1) you apologised and retracted your statement that Axel is a Muslim (since the Judge appears to be recognising this as disinformation and 2) highlight how Taylor Swift fans have already raised around US$400k for the families of those killed - with the star herself actively involved in contacting the families.

@@royquick-s5n Let me ask you a question? Was America right to pursue and convict Julian Assange for allegedly disclosing US secret documents, which were deemed to pose a threat to the security of the nation? If so, do you believe that there should be one law for America(ns) and another for the rest of the civilised world? Reciprocal extradition laws exist between our two countries, which enable prima facie criminals to be brought to justice if they seek refuge in the other's country, so that mass murderers, paedophiles and people like Anne Sacoolas can rightly be brought to justice, rather than escape it. Somehow, misinformation was published about the 17 year old who went on the rampage and killed 3 children stabbing them with a knife, some still with life threatening injuries in hospital. Even tonight rioting has broken out in another major city, and in total over 50 police have been hospitalised. Investigation has still not got to the source of who originally published that. and with Kevin on record stating that George had now revealed it (the boy's religion) "to the whole of Egland" (his words not mine) I felt constrained to deal with this at the level it had been exposed. If your assumption is correct that George has the source, he would be wise to disclose it to the UK police to cover himself, as it has certainly not been stated by any media outlet in UK, as was admitted in no 872. If you carefully read what I had written, you would have seen why I concluded that there is probably a minimal likelihood of the boy being muslim as only around 2% of Rwandans are of that religion. Also, to try and minimise the antagonism that this almost certainly 'fake news' has released, the boy's extreme mental condition has been revealed as a significant if dominant reason why he did what he did. As a former forensic and psychiatric chaplain, I have met many with such a condition and know how easily they can flip and commit heinous crimes, which often are completely out of character. By the way, I respect George and Kevin greatly and have no desire to silence either of them - just the reverse. I am an anglican priest as well. You seem to have misjudged me a number of times. By the way, what is a vestryman?

@@jgcl138 It seems that you do not like what George divulged. It seems you should be aware also that he may be protecting sources. It seems all would be mute, if it were shown George's information was incorrect, in which case I would expect George would admit it and apologize. You should be aware that Islam has posed problems in the U.K. Have you read the essays of Gaven Ashenden on Islam in the archives of Anglican Ink or in Catholic Unscripted in RUclips? In regard to vestryman, Anglican parishes in the U.S. have a vestry, parish council. A vestryman is a member of the vestry. 🙂

George made a correction on the identity of the seventeen year old in an Anglican Unscripted that followed on August 6, 2024.🙂

@@royquick-s5n More of a justification than a correction, things stated as a fact should be a fact. George does find it difficult to admit mistakes.

Pope Francis responded to his conservative critics saying that they are more influenced by ideology than theology. That seems to be true of you gentlemen. You seem to have forgotten that the One we laid as Lord and Savior was himself once a refugee and migrant. You would do well to filter your remarks more in accord with Matthew 25.

Jorge Bergoglio is also an Argentine Jesuit who may be ideologically prejudiced. Taking care of the stranger is not the same as aiding and abetting criminals and terrorists in crossing borders. How much respect do migrants have for a country, if they enter it illegally in the first place?

Criminals and terrorists... The same old lies nativist bigots told about my grandparents and great grandparents 100 & 150 years ago. Nothing new here. The same old fear, the same old prejudice, the same old hate, the same old sin.
