  • Ho Chi Minh City: A 15 Hour Transit Guide
    Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is the bustling economic centre of Vietnam, known for its dynamic energy and historical significance. The city boasts a compelling mix of French colonial architecture, sleek skyscrapers, and vibrant street markets. Landmarks like the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon and the War Remnants Museum highlight its diverse cultural heritage. The city’s streets are alive with the buzz of motorbikes, offering an array of street food vendors, chic cafes, and bustling nightlife. Ho Chi Minh City is a place where traditional Vietnamese culture intersects with modern influences, making it a fascinating destination to explore.
    So, when Vietnam Airlines offered a 15-hour stopover in this metropolis between London and Melbourne, I jumped at the chance. This allowed me to get out of the airport and eat my way through the market - hands down one of my favourite things to do whenever I visit.
    Jet lag aside - what can one do in 15 hours during a transit? Come along with me to find out!

      I'd eat grilled meat skewers anywhere. I suspect I had dog one time in Bali, but it was delicious though! 🤣

      I was melting, it was so hot. The various air conditioned cafes around the market are a life saver.

    Hey Ryan, excellent clip, You are in your element with all the food stalls. I grew up with names like Saigon, Peking, Bombay. Calcutta, Canton, Mt Egmont to name a few. I guess I am a traditionalist, but that's Ok. Thank you

      Traditionalist, you and me both. But a lot of these old names were colonial in nature, so I suppose these cities were quick to get rid of them when they got the chance to.

    I loved the Vietnamese coffee with the condensed milk.
    I visited Vietnam 12 years ago and all the people in my tour group weren’t keen on the Vietnamese coffee. Instead they kept looking for barista style coffees and went to Starbucks 😱

      Hahaha... Let me guess, your tour group was full of westerners, right? I had friends from America and when I showed them Bangkok for the first time, they got so overwhelmed they ended up at Starbucks and Maccas the whole time. Thai food in it's original form was also too much for them to handle because it wasn't their white picket fence suburbia take away shop type of sweet watered down crap. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I still tease them about it till this day.

      @@ryansofly1624 lol 😂 yes. They’re from Australia, UK and Canada.
      Yeah. I was in Thailand around February and traveled around Isaan and most places I went to wasn’t any choice but Thai food. I’ve had a fair bit of Somtam as the Thais love it, Pad Thais (Isaan style), Pad Si Eiws, some seafood, etc. luckily most places can cook Pad Thai. About the coffee situation in Thailand. Luckily there’s Amazon at every servo and plenty in most cities around Isaan. Be looking forward to your next travel series

      @@94vrcommodore oh yes... Thais make great coffee too. Iced coffee (กาแฟเย็น - kafae yen) is one of my fave. My grandmother is Thai, so yeah the food we had in my home kitchen was just extraordinary!

    Do have any information about the transit tour offered by the Vietnam airlines?
    Like the visa requirements, cost, eligibility, etc.

    • @ryansofly1624
      @ryansofly1624  10 дней назад

      I never knew VN offers transit tours. The visa cost USD25 per person.
