12 Non-trivial Facts about the Bible

- The Bible is a fascinating collection of documents-most of which have been around for more than 2,000 years. In this video, we take a look at 12 important facts about the Bible. These aren't trivial things-these are facts that I wish I'd known before I got started studying the Bible.
NOTE: Looking back, saying that the Bible is written from a "mostly Jewish perspective" is a bit reductive. If I were to redo this video, I'd say it was written from a "Mostly from ancient Israelite and first-century Jewish perspectives." Not as snappy, but more accurate.
If you understand these facts about Scripture, you'll be better prepared to read, study, and understand the Bible on your own.
If you want to know a LOT more about the Bible in a short amount of time, you should check out my book, The Beginner's Guide to the Bible: overviewbible....
I really appreciate your videos!! I am fairly new at reading and studying the Bible and your videos help to provide a foundation and context. It makes picking up my Bible a lot less intimidating. Thank you so much for your work!! 🙏
This is so kind of you to share--thanks Kayla! I'm glad they're helpful.
Jeffrey, As a bar mitvahed confused Jew I've been baptized twice and am involved with a Men's Church Group. You have shown a bright light on scripture and I wish to thank you. I'll keep watching!!
Thanks so much for the kind words, David!
I just discovered this channel and so far your channel appears to provide v exactly what I was looking for in a Bible study guide.
This is absolutely the best channel on the bible. Great deal of knowledge. You do a great job Jeffrey, thank you.
Jeffrey, thank you for taking the time to explain the many important facts, information and nuances of the Bible. I have read your Beginners Guide To The Bible several times and will continue to read it until it’s well established in my heart and mind. I am actually an ordained minister but I have served on the administrative/business/finance side of the church most of my life. But I did study the Bible in undergraduate and graduate school including seminary. But the way you break it all down and package the information is so incredibly helpful even in these later stages of my life and ministry. I wish I had you for a professor or a bible study leader when I was first saved and learning about the Bible. So thank you again for taking the time to make this information available to the general public. I just recently looked you up to learn more about the fella who wrote TBGTTB and that’s how I discovered your videos. Now I will watch them all and soak up as much as this 65 year old mind and heart can absorb. Blessings!
This was so kind of you to say, Larry. Thanks, and you're most welcome. =)

Jeff, you don't know what you have done for me! Thank you x millions! Watching you from South Africa and feeling very blessed by your work!. Where can one get your book " the beginner's guide to the Bible"? Your response will be highly appreciated.
You're a great teacher. I'm new to the Bible and this Really helps. I would like to know the differences between the bibles. Which is the best one to start with?
You should definitely start with one of the Gospels!
That's kind of you to say!
If you're new to the Bible and you're trying to choose an English translation, I recommend the NIV. If you're looking for a place to start _reading_ the Bible, the Gospel of John is a great place to start.

Amazing video, Jeffrey. This is really helpful to show atheists who treat the Bible like one book...they think we use circular reasoning when we're not. I have a suggestion for the next video: 12 prophecies fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
Just wanted to say definitely not all atheists do! I can't say anything about the circular reasoning argument, but some of us are really interested in the Bible (and we read it and study it) as a collection of books and documents for its religious, historical and literary relevance. Not approaching it through faith but sincere interest and curiosity. Some of us (not me) even know more about it than the average Christian! I, for instance, don't seek this knowledge for discrediting anyone's beliefs, since what we believe is different to what we know. I don't BELIEVE in God, but I want to KNOW about God and Christianity as it's represented in the Scriptures.
@@frizzyhairedgirl Your demeanor is refreshing Marcela! Thanks for your perspective! I know agnostics/atheists certainly used to (>30 years ago in the U.S.) know more about the Bible or have more of a curiosity about it. However, I didn't know some still do! Which is cool because I think it's the greatest book ever made, certainly from my unbiased Christian take lol.

I knew most of these but it was still very helpfull and interesting to see how you presented it! I think it'll be helpfull for me to be able to tell people facts in a more accomodating way and be mindfull of what is not so obvious to people who didn't grow up Christian, but important to know.
Dude, you're awesome. I've been curious about the bible and jewish and christian history and your videos are really helpful :D
Look at the evidence too brother

Hi Jeffrey , good video thank you, I am originally Bulgarian Orthodox Christian, and Orthodox Christianity is not a branch, it’s a main church that worship Jesus Christ, from the beginning, Jewish people reject and don’t worship Jesus Christ.
Excellent explanations . Thank you. Blessings.
as I said on one of your other videos I'm an Atheist, but I just love the way you explain the books without forcing a view.....brilliant...

Excited to see your video about why Catholics have 73 books!
Can we please get an audiobook version of your book?
Thank you so much for sharing! I just discovered your channel. I will watch much more of your content in the future, this is exactly what I was looking for. Did you do a specific study surrounding the bible? How did you learn all of this?
Hi, Ruth! I spent most of my childhood familiarizing myself with the Old and New Testaments, and began doing more serious studies of themes as an adult. =)
@@OverviewBible So you're audidact? :) That's impressive!! Your video about the loop-conversations that non-christian often have with christians was also really fascinating... Such content is also very, very welcome! I more and more am concluding that studying church history is very valuable for your own understanding of the bible. Your channel is exactly what I needed ;)

Enjoyed Bible Overview... I would like to see an overview of the Apocrypha and why these books were chosen to be in the original Canon..
New Subscriber
That deserves a video unto itself, but I can give you a brief explanation here.
The Apocrypha (or, more respectfully, "Deuterocanon") usually references documents that were considered sacred in Judaism and Christianity, but were not included in the Masoretic Text (the authoritative Jewish canon established by the 900s C.E.). When the Protestant Reformation began 600 years later, Martin Luther moved these non-canonical (according to Judaism) books to the end of the Old Testament, and eventually the books were phased out of printed Protestant Bibles.
Great job again!
I love this guy 🥰👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Which version is better and closer to original manuscripts please suggest ❤

Your style is so clear and simply stated, I actually understand the ideas. Fundamentally, the Bible is the Word of YHWH and is miraculous. Thank you!

Sir u tought very nicely. From india
Great video, I have been blessed! I am responding now to ask... you stated that the (OT) old testament language was Hebrew and Aramaic. What are your views on the Septuagint? I realize that it was a GREEK King of Alexandria that wanted the translation, around the 240s or so BC, but was done with approval and with JEWISH scribes. Being the common language at the time of JESUS was GREEK ( commercially excepted world wide ) not to imply that JESUS spoke it or used it! I don't know. I just suspect that the SEPTUAGINT might have had a more important role then what is believed. It may have been the common book by the early CHRISTIANS???? I also LOVED your 12 tribes video!!!! You are doing a great work here! THANKS
Your channel is amazing
That's kind of you to say-thank you!
Can I download the white board?
Wasn't it Cardinal Hugo de Sancto Caro who is given credit for first dividing the Latin Vulgate into chapters ?
19:47 The million dollar question here is whether God wants these books to be splitted like this. Yes, it was necessary back in the time but it is *not* necessary today.
Hello, Jeffrey! I've tried to contact you about a problem I had with the website's shop. I'm aware you may not be able to answer every single e-mail, but I need some help!
Searching for your book on Kindle and can't find it. Is it under your name or overview?
Thanks! It's not on Kindle--it's on OverviewBible.com (link in video description).
can you make a video explaining Revelation
your handwriting is like a font style. :)
Thank you! =)
as a greek knowing i have the bible in the "original" language makes me feel privileged haha
Where did you go?
Where can I get your book
I like your overview, but I would have to disagree with point 1. There is 400 years between the old and new testaments. The new testament books were written from about 50-94 AD. That would not allow much time for the old testament books to be written, about 30-50 years. We know that is not the case as jewish Rabbi's were studying and quoting the old testament for many years. I would also point out that number 10, in the english translations there are around 780,000 words of the bible. Not including the catholic version.
"it seems very faithfully preserved" how could you possibly know that without the original?
Jeffrey - you do a fantastic job. For me numbers matter - and in the bible number matter 7, 12, 40 etc ........ point 6 has 66 core books (666) - not a coincidence
I've notices that too. Why has he done it that way though?
Looking for your book. Is your last name Kranz?
Jeffree so cute!!!
