On this day in 1969 {August 2nd} James Brown's "Mother Popcorn (You Got To Have A Mother For Me)" reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's R&B chart... One month earlier on June 14th it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #11 and spent 12 weeks on the Top 100 chart... Also in 1969 Vicki Anderson recorded the answer song; "Answer to Mother Popcorn (I Got a Mother for You)"... James Brown passed away on Christmas Day of 2006 at the age of 73... May he R.I.P.
in this episode, Mike had JB's 7th grade teacher on the show, which is who JB is referring to when he dedicated the song to her by saying "Mother" Popcorn.....little did she know that in the terminology of the song "mother" was slang for "booty"...hence, you got to have a mother (booty) for me
TRUTH thank you William parker..saw JB with Tim,and Jimmy Nolen was the greatest of them all on guitar from his early jump blues solo recordings in the 50's till he joined up with James in the mid 60's.
No that’s not true at all about him telling Maceio that because he didn’t want no mess. Yes he was tough on the band but that was part of the tune if you listen to the single that line is in the single also it’s not purposely referencing that point in time telling Maceo that.
@@DJWOLFLIVE you don’t seem to understand. He did say it but it’s part of the song if you listen to the original single that’s part of the song. He’s not telling Maceo directly. It was in the original song he’s just repeating what was in the song. I saw James Brown 100 times in concert since 1968 so you’re not going to tell me what he meant.
@@PaulDA2000 I not but you assumed that I did and James was well known for talking this way to band members even behind the scenes so it was not just part of the songs
@@DJWOLFLIVE you’re either stubborn or you don’t comprehend. This particular song when he says Maceo I don’t want no mess that’s part of the song it’s in the single. It’s in the original studio recording. This is not one of the times where he’s actually directing the band and telling them he doesn’t want any mess this is part of the song. Now I’m not gonna explain it again if you don’t understand it that means you don’t have much comprehension.
@d820m no my man thats sweet charles sherrell on bass. he replaced tim drummond who had replaced bernard odom in 1968 right after bernard recorded i got the feelin. but in between all that al country kellum the guitar player with jimmy nolan switched to bass until tim and sweet charles learned the show.
What is the name of the song playing in this video from the link below ruclips.net/video/8nv9PG6-Po0/видео.html is it called “Sugar and Spice” Who can tell me?
If you keep still while this is playing, you ain't human.

He told Macio an I quote “I don’t want no trash” referring to his horn playing I assume. James didn’t play when it came to his sound and brand.
