Live in Paris 92 is the best version I've seen (personally). Slash was 27ish at the time. but he was so wasted at that concert he looked like he was in his 50s but still killed it on guitar, when most of us wouldn't of been able to stand upright let alone playing bangin guitar for two hours
I hate to be the one to inform you that you need to get your hearing checked, Bob's song was totally butchered by these guys! That axel needs some grease, that screeching has to stop!
Axl Rose, for all of his many personality issues and lifestyle problems, had an INCREDIBLE vocal range, with more than 5 octaves including his growl and falsetto. Killer rhythm section (Steven, Duff, and Izzy), Slash on lead, and Axl's voice... They were a hard rocking band that could also nail ballads. They were a transition from Glam/Hair/Metal Rock bands that moved into Grunge. And, Axl's voice was a HUGE influence on the Grunge singers, from Cobain to Vedder...
They took a lot of liberties with this Bob Dylan classic and made it into something of their own. The lyrics to the song refer to the western sheriff Pat Garett who died from a gunshot wound in New Mexico.
They are a perfect combo. Even if I can't help sometimes wishing each would do a little more of the other. I find myself thinking man just enjoy the song sometimes and girl what do you mean you weren't really listening to the words at other times! Lol sometimes in the same song

Axl is very misunderstood by most people. Yes, he had his mental & emotional demons, but "crazy" didn't break up the band. Izzy left once he got clean, and couldn't be around the excess, but joined Axl's new GN'R on-stage frequently throughout the early 2000's in Japan and South America; no bad blood, ever. Duff & Slash ultimately quit due to Axl wanting control over the brand, which would have made them GN'R employees rather than equal members. Most fans and critics cite this as an ego power move by Axl, but he was just ensuring the future of GN'R as Duff & Slash struggled w/ alcohol and substance abuse; they were easily headed down the same road as Steven Adler, the original drummer. GNR its rhe Best, they put this cover in another level. Axl vocals are out of this planet
The song is original from Bob Dylan and it was written for the movie "Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid" The story goes that Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid use to be best friends but later on in life Billy became a gangster and Pat was a sheriff, so eventually Pat was forced to shot down Billy and that"s why he"s saying that he don"t wanna use the badge and shot people anymore!
summer 1992: GNR and Metallica tour together San Diego sports arena, I score front row tickets. One of the musical highlights of my young life at the time. Of course Dylan gave them a template for this one and they made something special for their version
Bob dylan's version (dylan wrote it) blows this version away
Amazing cover!!! This is a classic
Yep! That is all Axl lol... when I was younger it used to confuse me till I saw them perform & was amazed!😵😄
Guns in my opinion is one of the all time greats!!! Please react to Coma!!! Slash says it’s his favorite song to play live!!!
If you want to hear Axl sound like 2 different people, check out 'Patience'. BTW, Lex is a very beautiful woman!
The opening octaves layer is xclt setup. The guitar (Les Paul!!) is like a siren sea call pulling a soul string, but the bkgrd echo is the ghost of past others saying GoForIt. Who else rocks slow slow guitar w/pounditout beat, then choir-like backup. I like it more than Bob Dylan's orig. Dylan's dying gunslinger sheriff is lonely folk song, but this is more resolved he made peace and is up/ready for beinb heavenbound.
Greetings and love from Granbury, Texas! Long time subscriber, this is my favorite channel. Hope 2022 is a badass year for you guys! Peace and love- Jon
GNR Patience. Thats off their GNR Lies album, the holdover album between first 1 and Use your Illusion ones. It's all Acoustical and was all recorded in 1 day.
You’re right Lex! I’d jam alot of gnr when out on mission in Iraq. I’d play this one through the headset and it’d spook some of our guys
More than anything, the song honors a fallen police officer killed in the line of duty.
"momma take this badge from me, I can't use it anymore" then "momma put my guns in the ground, I can't shoot them anymore"
The live version is sooo rock n roll
It actually was about 30 years before the reunion, and sometimes Axl sounds like 3 or 4 different singers lol, an amazing voice.
Bob Dylan’s tune
Now, this is what I think of when I think GNR. Iconic vocals.
They made timeless music.
Off topic: its crazy how Lex's natural voice sounds exactly like the natural voice of Delila Paz, the singer for a band called The Last Internationale, its kinda mind boggling
This is a Classic. Bob Dylan wrote it and it is on the soundtrack from "Pat Garett and Billy The Kid", so that's what the lyrics are about.
Guns and Roses takes us to church.
