But when you get to know him outside of being "the front man of GNR" he is genuinely a good guy trying to fight some serious battles. A lot of guitarists would describe what Lex is saying as “Cutting through the mix”. Slash (and a few other great guitarists) have a way of making the guitar act like a secondary lead singer, so the sound cuts through the mix of the drums and bass, and doesn’t get engulfed by their tones. Many guitarists wait for the guitar solo to do that, but Slash, and others, can do it in the middle of a verse or chorus, without detracting from the song.

    • @stevedahlberg8680
      @stevedahlberg8680 3 года назад +10

      Agree, and I think Lex is also hinting at a sense of leadership, like even outside of a guitar solo, there is a sense that he is leading the band.

      I get what is being said, but that's just the distinction between lead guitar and rhythm guitar. The rhythm guitar (Izzy) works in unison with the bass (Duff) and drums (Matt) to keep the song moving forward. The lead guitar (Slash), much like the vocalist (Axl), contributes to break up what would otherwise be just a monotonous rhythm. Contributing in that fashion does place the lead guitar in the same light as the vocalist.

    This is the song that got me into GNR. I was never a fan until I watched Terminator 2 and when I heard it I was hooked after I bought it on cd single and played it relentlessly. This song is absolute badss and goes so well with the video showing clips of the film as Arnold Schwarzenegger wanted them to do the song for the film. Everything in that song is lit, first the drums, then bass guitar, then lead and rhythm guitars and Axl goes hell for leather with vocals. In my top 5 GNR songs and probably that best movie song & video ever imho.

    digs the tunnel. Acts as an exhilaratingly serene guide through the background turmoil. Like the knowledge you've just won the lottery when trying to get off a crammed Chinese train in rush hour.

    I always felt that G'N'R more than any other band kind of held the torch that the Stones have carried for so long. Attitude, powerful riffs, rock 'n' roll. For more Slash, gotta be "Anastasia" next, with Myles Kennedy doing the vocals. You'll love it Lex!
