In 1977 I was 12 years old and rode in a convoy of 7 Trailways Eagles from Georgia to Washington D.C. There were over 200 of us "Junior Safety Patrol" kids starting a week long trip to the nation's capital. To this day, when I smell diesel smoke on a highway I remember that trip. All seven buses were pulled over in the middle of the night in southern Virginia for doing 80mph in a 55mph zone. It was great.
I have to say that this video is so exciting!!! I love the fact that these coaches not only exist but all 3 actively work carrying those customers in uncomparible comfort. Thanks to Flagship Trailways for their Model 05. It just brings joy to my heart to see an 05 in mint condition again!!!!
@Mattea68 ............ I TOTALLY agree .... I've love the Silver Eagles ever since I was a young lad .... My goal is to purchase an old coach .... around the early 90's .... and convert into a private coach .... The Eagle is the finest bus ever made.
We built several Eagles and shipped them on a ship to Australia. Those were a bastard to drive in this country because the steering wheels were on the right hand side. You had to pay close attention on the road or you would ride the center line. Left turns were also tricky because you were on the right side. I was lucky that I didn't get to drive one of them to the port in California. The guys that did said it was a hoot to pass people on the road and they would do a double take.
Answer to your question is yes!!!! The key is the Eagle has to be in good shape. Both running and visually. Then keep it constantly clean. Make sure folks can see your contact info and hang on. PS make sure you have all the anemities installed as customers want todays comforts even in yesterdays coaches.
Would you remember building the Aussie Eagles for Greyhound Australia and Doug Lever's Lever Coachines in Queanbeyan near Canberra? They operated Eagle 05's, Eagle 10's and Doug Lever bought a RHD Eagle 15
Beautiful Eagles!!!!! This is why I'm starting my new business as we speak with older retrofit coaches they run longer plus more reliable and just need an upgrade that's all. Of course I will invest in a newer coach for my fleet for what I like to call a "promotion coach" for select corporate/high-profile customers that just want that new feel.
@Mattea68 From late 50s until about halfway 70s Eagles were built in Belgium, although the original Golden Eagle is a product of the german company Kässbohrer. From 1976 on all Eagles were built in Texas.
Actually, the first American built Eagles were made in 1976. Full production was reached in 1977. I would never buy a used Eagle with a chassis number between 19501 to 19700.
@@WAL_DC-6B These were the first Eagles built in the USA. The workers that put them together did not have the knowledge and experience that the Belgian workers had.
Eagle production in Germany lasted from 1956 (one prototype) to 1958. No Eagles were made in 1959 and La Brugeoise et Nivelles, near the city of Brugge started making Eagles late in 1960 for about one year. From then on Continental Trailways took over using the name of Bus & Car.
The first and last sounded like automatics. The 10 I was familiar with was a 5-speed. The second of this group, the 05, is a 4-speed with air-assisted clutch. I only used the clutch for starting and stopping.
The last real Eagles were made in 1998. The all-time last two were made by a huckster named Craig Hanloh a few years later. He really didn't have the money to do it right and he was robbing Peter to pay Paul until his house of cards collapsed on him. they made one house car of their own design plus one 37 foot Model 20 that may have never been finished. His brother just got out of prison for real estate fraud in California in December of 2018. Nice people
The first Eagles from 1956 to 1958 had German ZF six speed preselector gearboxes. From 1960 into 1961 a four speed manual was used, most likely Spicer. From later in 1961 for the next 20 or so years, the four speed Spicer was standard but a four speed Allison automatic was an option as was a five speed Spicer. The four speed Spicer was phased out around bit both five speed models were available to he end of Eagle production. The four speed Spicer boxes in Eagles had different ratios in the first three gears than the Spicers used in the GM Scenicrusiers. The GM buses were geared lower so were a little quicker from a standing start but after that the race was over because the Eagle's longer gearing gave it faster acceleration up to 55 MPH. SHIFT POINTS, Spicer 4 speed manual gearboxes EAGLE: 20-35-55 MPH GMC: 15-30-45 MPH Both coaches had about the same 3.70:1 drive axle ratio and about the same 79 MPH top speed but that was rarely reached in the GMC while fairly easy to reach on the Eagle.
Beautiful buses eagle with dd8v71 congratulations

I truly wish I had the money to restore an Eagle...I'd baby it like John Travolta babies his 707.

Raymond Jones . MY CUZ WOULD LOVE SOME OF YO FLEET SEND PLZ THANKS
I'm hoping I can have a bus company involving some of these as well.
You can tell that the Eagle 05 has the racket pinion steering....look at the driver turning the steering wheel at 0.16-0.20....Classic!!!!
That's Rack and Pinion...
Silver Eagle, they are so beautiful. Kendra Hope♥

You have a great ear 91hybrid as she is getting engine work now.
Show
Number 3 Eagle needs to go back to the mini-buses. He can't turn that 45 for nothing.
Third coach is a 40 footer ( just 3 luggage bay doors per side)

if you knew what you were doing, you wouldn't need the clutch to stop. Only to start.
I'm all ears. I'd knock it out of gear just as road speed & engine sync'd. Otherwise the engine would stall.

How many gears? I've read that ten speed Roadrangers were used as opposed to the four speeds in GMC Scenics.:)
