I devoured this Ominbus in a couple days. Really fun action oriented stories, reminded me of the early 00's DC cartoons, and Ed Mcguiness's art really brings out the best in the stories he draws.

Is this canon to the DC comics or is it set in a different timeline/ universe?

@@ghtrggko Im currently finishing the most complete Canon Batman/ Batfamily reading order but I dont know where I would fit this in. Obviously this is Pre- New 52 but without reading it idk where to put it unless it lines up to the Batman comics when it was released ?
@@ShadowManV3 Honestly this series is more of a Superman comic that also features Batman. It's all Superman plot points that it picks up on and villains that they fight, Loeb and McGuiness are actually just coming off of writing Supes themselves.. The series starts in 03 I think, so during the Brubacker/Rucka "New Gotham" era after No Mans Land.

I enjoyed the fun feel of this series, particularly the counterpoint between Superman & Batman in their thoughts & opinions of each other. I found most of the six thick trades at Sydney Comic Con . I own the first 6 thick trades of this series. I didn't know there apparently was a cancelled volume 7. Nice work as always mate. 😊

This book is right at the start of my golden years of comic reading, when I moved from the country to the big city and had 3 comic stores as opposed to a small newsagency. Ahh the memories....esp that 25-30 monthly issues standing order. Lol!

Great overview, I placed the order yesterday, I mean it was on my radar but decided I want it more then a few other stuff, for example the Infinite Crysis reprint and other backlog omnis.
I also got Lady Mechanika 3 hardcovers, would be glad to see a overview on those if you have, them I checked them on Jess's channel a few times and made my mind to get them, until they are available.

I really love that second Ed mcguinnes arc. It’s so crazy! I feel like the goal was to throw everything into the story that they could. It was really fun!

Mine arrived pretty early and it looks like a beefy beautiful book. It's still wrapped as I'm trying to work this into a good reading plan. You mentioned it begins prior to Infinite Crisis, and looking at some of the publication dates it looks like that Crisis event occurs around the special issue 26. I've got the Infinite Crisis on the way so I may tackle the two omnis together. This Volume One leaves off at issue 43, so hopefully we'll get a Volume 2, which should start off with Shane Davis's art in The Search for Kryptonite and I guess would finish up the entire series? Hopefully great sales on this omnibus encourage the people at DC to proceed with a Volume 2.

I think the Batman-behind-Talia cover reminded people a lot of a certain controversial Rolling Stone cover with Janet Jackson and maybe a Gen 13 variant cover based on it. After all, DC was still code-approved at the time.😉
Got one from IST , REC 1 WEEK AGO ordered on it's own so no hold ups waiting for other items to be scanned . Added to to backlight of reading list. Quality of book was surprising.

Thanks for the overview Omar, I just got this book delivered but still to crack it open. I remember some of the arcs being hit and miss, but Torment was awesome, especially the art by Dustin Nyugen, and the arc drawn by Carlos Pacheco was also really good. And of course I can't forget the Michael Turner Supergirl arc. I think Volume 2, if it comes, will be a step down, this title sort of limped on way past its natural end.
Torment was great. Ngyuen was so damn good and Pacheco in this gave his damn best.
This looks like a fun omnibus!
I love this book, can't wait for the rest to be printed. The New 52 and recent Batman/Superman runs also need omnis!!

I'm a real big Jeph Loeb fan just because I feel he understands a lot of the characters and knows how to write deep & meaningful stories. So would this be close to that sort of writting style? I'm torn if I should buy this but the art looks great. And it's LOEB!
It's honestly not as good as his Batman run, but damn the stories are fun. The art alone is worth the book.
I was waiting for this. Like you, I didn’t like some of the story choices. I loved the art and the supergirl arc but I held off on buying it because of the things I didn’t like. The Michael Turner and Ed McGuinnes art alone makes it worth it. And we just don’t have anything else as big in content with Batman and Superman! What was I thinking????!!!! Thanks Omar!!!!!

Shame they canceled the final thick trade for this series. Still sticking with those though since I don't care about the issues past #60 or so when Johnson & Green's run ends, so half of the second omnibus wouldn't really be my thing.

@ Vincent Faust, I have the first 6 thick trades. Wikipedia lists a Volume 7 in that series, but I guess, based on your comment, that it never surfaced? That would explain why I can't find it anywhere.

Love your reviews. I definitely respectfully disagree with your feelings on Bizarro. IMO he is the most underrated Superman villain. Love story arcs where he is used. Keep up the great videos!
Damn I honestly didn't even know this was a run. Looks pretty cool tho. And I absolutely love 2000s marvel and dc stuff because it's my era and it still retained the core of the characters without being all edgy and dark and the art looked better and the colors popped more and wasn't dulled down. It had a cartoony yet heroic vibe to them which I loved along with the silver and bronze age stuff

I got back at the beginning of June and it’s gorgeous!! I love this run and had the original issues right to the end and the crazy ex destroyed them lol I think later on in the series it lost its way but still glad to have it:) Great Vid Omar!

That lex Luthor pic at the end of the arc when he refers to a crisis looks like an ode to wolverine in the uncanny X-men when he is in the sewer after the hellfire club tthought they got rid of him and he was going to get revenge. Take a look Omar!
I’m STILL thinking of buying the absolutes that’s how beautiful the art is and even tho that last jeph loeb story was a headache. It was like Loeb was channeling his inner Grant Morrison and REALLY couldn’t pull it off but hey I’ve come to expect that jeph loeb will just write garbage from time to time (I’m looking at you HULK in marvel)

I have all the little hardcovers from this run, when they decided to stop producing them in those little hard cover, i stopped collecting.. This omnie, might be a good way to complete the title..
I really want this, but at the moment I can't find it at a good price in here. I just hope it doesn't go away before I manage to get one.

I wanted to get this, but at $200 CAD it's hard to find that kind of money. Buying from LCS is hard to justify when online booksellers will offer better discounts than local stores. DC omnis are costing so much it's making buying them harder and pricing people out of this market. The end of 2020 and into 2021 I may have to make some hard choices because there are 5 or more omnis coming out that I may not be able buy. I would like this because it reminds me of the early years when Worlds Finest had those Superman/Batman team-ups. Very nostalgic! I guess I'll have to wait for a big sale and hope it stays in print by the time I get around to buying it. Great overview Omar and I'm glad your copy arrived safely!

Aw man, I was hoping for a review since I dont know anything about this series; the art looks cool but a little more info about the stories would have been great and I still cant decide if I will buy this one considering the whole bunch of great omnis coming later this year

I'm in the same situation as you. Not this omni, but others from IST from weeks back. UPS listed it as delivered to USPS back on August 29th... and nothing since. Several days trying to get reps on the phone. UPS is adamant it was delivered to USPS. USPS says they never received it from UPS. Both are saying the other is responsible.
The USPS facility is literally 20 minutes from here. :|
USPS has been a mess, but I get it. There is something horrible going on and my books can wait. I hate when fingers are pointed.

Wow. Didn`t know Joe Benitez had worked that series. He draws an amazing Batman. He had worked with Paul Dini on Detective # 823 & did some amazing work there. Wish they would give him a mainstream title. He`s so good.
He did some justice league issues with Mcduffie too. He’s great.

Omar, you forgot to mention the fat trades. They cancelled the 7th (and final one), only to follow-up with this omni. I soooo hate that! I have all six and (because I had no choice) the older thin pb Sorcerer Kings. But I really want volume 7!

If it makes you feel better IST finally scanned my order after I bought it three weeks ago. It shipped, but it hasn't been picked up? Like Omar said, there is a pandemic...but damn its getting silly.

It's so wild to me that EVS is the second-billed artist on the back cover (fourth on the front) when he contributes 3 issues out of 43 in this volume and none other in the rest of the series.
That’s surprising. Year or so back DC was sorta underselling EVS role in books. Maybe they’re coming around to recognising his genuine popularity

I finally got it, next tothe Paul Dini's order. I've already read this one, liked it a lot, the first part at least, the second one mmmm not so much.
That second one is not going to be as good.
So any word if there will be a 2nd Volume? Looks like a fun read but I don't want my OCD kicking in all the time where it's not the whole thing and I get irritated by it 🤣

The only content of this Omnibus that I've already read is the Supergirl story. Really didn't enjoy it at all, so that was enough to make me pass on picking this book up. Unfortunately this iteration of Supergirl was kinda garbage, in every way until like 22 issues into her ongoing. I don't know, let me know if I'm missing a bunch of great stories by not getting this, cuz I've only read a few issues of it.
Public Enemies, Absolute Power and the 2 Annuals were pretty entertaining in my opinion

I really like a good Superman/Batman team up title, but (and I know I'm in the minority here) I'm not a fan of Jeff Loph's writing. To me it just seems like a lot of sizzle and no steak.

@@NearMintCondition Batman Jeph Loeb Tim Sale omnibus is the truth with the storytelling and art.
I wish loeb would have stayed at dc. For me, he was one of the best writers in the game. His marvel work doesnt hold a candle to his dc work in my opinion. Obviously, marvel put him in charge of a lot of the animation and shows but i think its fair to say that he really had a handle on Superman and Batman.
I wish he had done five years with Batman. Would love to have seen what he could do.
