I know I'm late to the game, but this video got me atarted on my journey to getting all these omnis and i finally was able to obtain all 5 and am half way through them. Thanks for the videos and helping us "newbies" to comics find neat runs and charatcers to check out.
I hope they reprint these like they did with the Daredevil run with Bendis and Brubaker. It seemed like we didn’t have to wait too long and I even think Bendis reprints were in consecutive months
Omar, just wanted to say thank you for all your great content. I had heard of your channel(via forums and stuff) but I’m not big into RUclips for entertainment. Turns out, all I needed was your channel to bring that out of me. Seeing your interactions with people via comments, watching your in depth videos(I have a huge backlog to catch up on your stuff lol) and just seeing your genuine passion is just so awesome. You’ve got a new subscriber in me and I appreciate you! I feel bad I’m so late to the party lol. Keep up the good work! Stay safe in these trying times, brotha!
Thank you so much for the kind words. Truth be told, I never was much for RUclips either. Which I guess explains why it took me a while to figure out what exactly I wanted to do with the channel. Regardless, it’s never too late to join and I am happy you are on board. Thank you again for the kind words.
Great video, Omar. This run made me a huge fan of the character. And the legacy of this run is still apparent as the MCU definitely took elements from this run namely the Winter Solider movie. Overall, whenever people want to check out Cap I easily recommend Brubaker’s run. My second favorite CB writer of all time.
Oh man you were reading my mind on Steve Epting. I respect Tom Palmer's work in the industry, but always felt his inking way overpowered people many times especially Epting's work on Avengers back then. Epting's work on Cap is awesome I love it all so wonderful. Glad to see these getting reprinted for others. They were my first Omnis wow almost 11 years now geez time flies!
Probably my favorite run of any character by any writer ever. Wasn't a fan of Cap before this, now he's probably my favorite Marvel character. These were long oop as I got into the omni game so I can't wait to collect these.
As you mentioned in the video, I really hope this is just a starting point that eventually gives a reprint of the "Death of" and "Lives" omnibuses. When I started picking up hardcovers a couple years ago I got the remaining three without any problem, but even then the two out of print volumes were really high. People say this is one of the definitive runs for Captain America, so I hope Marvel continues to periodically reprint them to keep it available.
I didn't realize his run was in 4 omnibus collections. I have the first volume and I think I have The Death of Captain America so I need 2 more. Thanks for the video Omar.
I've been hoping to get the Brubaker omnis for as long as I've been reading Marvel, but I'm not a fan of Marvel's new omnibus designs (i.e. art on the hardcover as opposed to the more archival, faux leather look). Do you think the original editions will resale for cheaper with the reprints coming out, or will they still be expensive?
damn 5 omnis, Brubaker wrote a lot of Cap! Im excited to see all of these get a reprint Do you think they will retitle some of these omni's if they reprint them. Like Death of Cap will just be Captain America by Ed Brubaker vol 2. Would be cool if they could collect Death of Cap and Captain America Lives together as one omnibus, Death seems too slim.
I hope they retitle/combine them like you said, it would limit spoilers for new readers. I knew about his death before I began reading them, but it would probably be helpful for some if they didn't title it like that.
Thanks for the overview and everything I've read so far from Brubaker has been stellar. Hope we continue to get more of this run. Keeping an eye out for the reprints, hopefully his Criminal Hardcovers will come back too.
My favourite Captain America run, I don't know how many times I've read it. As a broke student, I can rarely buy omnis, but I just had to buy these. I'm glad the first volume is getting a reprint, let's hope the next two will be reprinted too eventually!
I read through this run later last year on Marvel Unlimited and it was so great. It was so well structured and had so many great moments. I will say I agree that some of the art near the end is a bit hit and miss. I love most of the art through most of it though. I think the main thing that holds some of the early art back though is the coloring. I'm not the biggest fan of early-2000's Marvel coloring in general, I feel it's too dark and muddies the linework.
My top 3 cap runs imo in no order would be the classic Stan and Jack run including the steranko and a couple of colan's issues, Steve Englehart's also classic 70s cap and falcon run, and of course Brubaker's modern cap classic. I like some stuff from Gruenwald's run like the diamond hunt storyline and the intro to crossbones and the nomad moments and haven't read Mark Waid's cap run yet. But overall my top 3 would be what I mentioned above. And I'm glad that they've been able to include each of the major key stuff from these runs into the mcu movies for the most part.
Oh God one of the best run of the last 20 years. Ed Brubaker was on fire writing Captain America my God. Really putting Steve in the race revealing Winter Soldiers tried it all the way up Steve's death and having Bucky basically take over the map Captain America. I just love this run( now for anyone that doesn't like this run that's fine because I've had a few friends that really didn't care for the Spy Espionage noir style to Captain America I thought it was refreshing to take that approach him.)It really did give Captain America a lot of layers that we never really had with him before this run. Add definitely took a gamble with this style with Captain America and Ed Brubaker and Steve pulled off flawlessly for me. This has to be like I say again probably the greatest run on Captain America or one of the greatest run in the last 20 maybe even 30 years all any run on any character for that matter. That tells you how good Ed Brubaker is when you just let him do what he needs to do for a character he's going to give you something to witness. I'm so glad they're going to do the reprint of it like this this is one of those you got to keep a different type of run like you just got print. It's a key stone type of run that is very quintessential to the medium as a whole
I’ve always regretted passing on paying $500 for the set...You know it’s gotta be amazing when marvel prints a 5 omnibus set lol Hope to find these one day 🤞 I’m dying to read that run
Thanks for this Omar. I sat here making notes comparing my trades & HC's to see what's missing. I notice that CA#10 is missing from the first trade (hate when that happens 😑). The renumbering is confusing but you thankfully cleared that up. I just appear to be missing Captain America (2011). As usual your videos are invaluablely helpful. 😊
You are more than welcome, my brother. CA 10 is in the House of M collections. They always leave that issue of the Trade because it kind of puts the brakes on the story.
Excellent video. Happy that the first Omnibus will get a reprint. Omar, I need your opinion: I have an opportunity to grab the mutant massacre Omnibus seal for retail price. My question is: is it worth? Maybe we will have the content on uncanny X-men Omnibus volume 5 and 6. Can you help me decide? Thanks a lot.
It's definitely worth it, because the the eventual UXM Omni Vol. 5 will lead directly into the _Mutant Massacre_ Omnibus when it inevitably comes out down the road, here -- you should grab it now, because it's really starting to spike in price on eBay and elsewhere.
time for Trial and Return to be reprinted. Vol1 was actually the first omnibus I bought like around 7 years ago. I was waiting for Death to get reprinted before buying 4-5 (which were available at the time). It didn't happen within like a year or so, so I sold my vols 1+3. Then I bought 1-3 recently and am waiting for 4-5. Super complicated lol
Absolutely love first Brubacker's Winter Soldier arc, but i have a big issue with it - ending. I like everything about it, but when Cap took cube and said "remember who you are", i was like "is that how it ends?" Just said a few words and...that's it. I prefer movie version of the end of the conflict between Bucky and Cap, because here we see internal struggle in Bucky, he tries to kill Steve, but Cap's "brother" lines made him realise who he is while in the comic book we have "hey! That's cube! So..Remember who you are, pal!" and...that's always confused me. Ed started and continued perfectly but just one page kinda ruined character's conflict. I like everything but the way Bucky remembers his identity. Nevertheless, it's a great run, like Winter Soldier's one shot in the volume 2 (if i'm not mistaken)
I'm glad these are getting reprinted as I'm really curious to check this serious out since I have heard nothing but good stuff about it. Personally, omnibuses should never go out of print because there will always be a new comer to the omnibus game.
Thanks,Omar. I've been stranded on a desert island and now you spoiled everything for me. I'm going to write some nasty things about you on my MySpace page.
Well if you can't get Volumes 1-3, why would you start with Volume 4? That's the problem when things go out of print, which is probably why Marvel is reissuing the first 3 Uncanny X-Mens before they release 4. :-)
Near Mint Condition I suppose. Some of these books look on the thin side. Do you think they could have done all the material in 2 or 3 volumes? Like how DC did Batman by Grant Morrison? I still think that would have been a nicer way to go. Take all the material and put it in a new format.
Do you think the extra issues collected in Steve Rogers: Super-Soldier Complete Collection tpb (Annual #1, Uncanny X-Men Annual (2006) #3, Namor: The First Mutant Annual #1) are required reading or can we stick to the 4 issues miniseries? And thanks again for all the great content. NMC really adds to the pleasure of collecting and reading comics.
So glad Marvel are reprinting vol 1 - hopefully they will reprint all the Brubaker omnis as well! I loved how Brubaker referenced things like the 50s Cap & Bucky and the Cap & Bucky who replaced the originals after they disappered near the end of WW2
An open letter to David: Thank you for reprinting the Brubaker Cap Omni. What's the likelihood of getting a Death and Return of Cap Omni? That way you'd only be printing 4 Capni Books and would rope in all the collectors to re-up as well. Keep up the good work!
What’s crazy is at the beginning of the stream that you did about upcoming omnibuses and stuff, I commented asking if you thought the captain America by Ed brubaker omnibuses would ever get reprinted any time soon
Hey Omar, question off topic. Did "Seven to Eternity" by Rick Remender ever get a Hardcover Deluxe Edition? Or are the 3 TP volumes the only collected editions. Thanks brother, take care.
I always don't understand why Marvel/DC don't just name their omnis volume 1-5 other than their tpbs. Something like IDW deluxe edition. It gets really confusing for new readers like me.
I see. That's why. I would love to see a video about omnis for new readers. Omnis that are maybe one complete story or easy to get into. That would be so awesome. Love your videos, Omar!
I'd love to see a deluxe edition of the Waid/Samnee Captain America & Black Widow. I also like their Daredevil a lot. Have you read Gotham Central? It's a really cool police procedural where Batman is a minor background character. It's a really fun read. I think you'll like it
I got into Omnibus collecting because I wanted this run in Omnibus format. I hope that Marvel's stock issues are solved by the time we get the reprint because these are my freaking Moby Dick!
Yeah Annihilation Conquest is now going for more than War of Kings omnibus because of people who recently got Annihilation wanting to read the next installment... you can’t even find Annihilation Conquest in trades either.
There's a part of me that sort of always wished Marvel included both Civil War #1-7, The Confession, and Fallen Son as part of this series of omnis, even though they aren't written by Brubaker.
By far, my fave Modern Cap run. I’m waiting on a delivery of ‘something related’ to this run, which is a mind-blower. Should have it in about three weeks. @Uncanny Omar, reach out to me for a preview when it a arrives 😎
Hey awesome videos! I just got into comics and my favorite marvel movie is captain America the first avenger. Is that covered in these omnibuses? If so which one? Also is the infinity gauntlet, infinity war, and infinity crusade okay to read alone as a trilogy?
A little of that movie is in the first omnibus. Some of that story is mainly in the first Avengers omnibus. But Winter Soldier, you’ll find in these Omnis. You can read the original Infinity trilogy by themselves.
@@NearMintCondition Awesome thank you so much! And lastly, I was wondering if I can read all the Joe Kelly run on Deadpool and nothing else before or after and it’ll be it’s own contained standalone story with like a conclusion and stuff?
Not convinced since in the 🇬🇧 only the last one can be obtained at something near to the RPM and it's not going to be that way for very much longer. As for the others you end up paying crazy prices for them, even if you can find them at all. Therefore, the best solution would be for Marvel to re-print all of them, but there's just no guarantee that they will decide to do that. I think I will just stick with the sole Captain America Omnibus that I have got, the one by Mark Waid. Also, since over the last few months I have obtained quite a few Omniboo and OHCs that I haven't even got around to reading yet, it's not as if I'm lacking in reading material to be honest.
FYI they have now reprinted the first Brubaker Captain America omnibus, The Death of Captain America omnibus is out in Aug 2021 and they recently announced a reprint of Captain America Lives for Dec 2021 so its highly likely omnibus 4 & 5 will be getting reprinted to
Never read Cap, is he corny in his comic? Like is he all "Language!" & "Murica!" or does he act like a modern day person would? Also are the Brubaker omnis a good entry, or should I start elsewhere?
A ton. They only did up to 148 for the Silver Age/Bronze Age run, did some return of Jack Kirby book, and then I think that is it until the Brubaker stuff. I know they haven't released any of the Serpent Society stories in Omnibus form. I'd really like it if they would do those next. Knock out everything from the Birth of the Serpent Society through their downfall that followed the Streets of Poison story.
@@renegade_legend2583 oh I know lol. I'm just worried DC and Marvel will try to push for 150 and maybe even 175$ omnis. Which even tho omnis are expensive there is a limit
Does Brubaker repeatedly insult the readers intelligence like in Kill or Be Killed? What about political bias? Does he fill these book with blatant misconceptions like in KoBK? Hard pass if so.
@@Ben623 He says things like "Do you remember when this happened? Yeah, I knew you would forget". He also makes comments about politics that have no basis in fact and are instead based on hate and ignorance. You should be able to easily identify them as they are numerous.
I've only read the first Cap omnibus but I like it a hell of a lot more than KobK, which I found good but frustrating. I find the KobK praise to be kind of odd. I think it is my least favorite Brubaker/Phillips collaboration.
In my opinion, KoBK doesn't deserve the praise it received but this Cap run does. KoBK was pretentious without actually having much to say, while this Cap run is an actual game changer for several characters. It's just really good, I would 100% recommend it.
I enjoyed the video. I have all five of the Omnies including the volume 1 variant cover. Knowing you, your probably reading a omnibus while your on your get away. I'm going to tell Jess that you don't take the dust jackets off of your Omnies either. Lol. Enjoy your time off. Stay safe you and the family.

I'd love to see a deluxe edition of the Waid/Samnee Captain America & Black Widow. I also like their Daredevil a lot. Have you read Gotham Central? It's a really cool police procedural where Batman is a minor background character. It's a really fun read. I think you'll like it
It's one of my favorite DC omnis of all time. I always praise about it.
Sup guys. Do we know when vol 1 reprint is coming out? Might have missed it. Plans for vol 2 and 3 reprints as well? Thanks!
So far we know of volume 1 and that is in January 2021
Vol 2 is out Aug 2021 and vol 3 is Dec 2021 (no word on volumes 4 or 5 yet)
@@Jag2045 Thank you. Luckily 4 and 5 are readily available. Already picked those 2 up. Thanks!
I got into Omnibus collecting because I wanted this run in Omnibus format. I hope that Marvel's stock issues are solved by the time we get the reprint because these are my freaking Moby Dick!
It's coming. :)
Now that this is happening, do you know if we will get an Annihilation: Conquest Omni reprint next year?
I haven't heard about those yet.
I think its time for a Civil War omnibus. :) Maybe one day.
I'm hoping this is the year Spider-Man and Captain America get some love. Reprints and new omnis on both sides. I need Superior Spidey!
I hope FF as well.
Was volume 1 reprinted before? I have all 5 of these Omnibus but my volume 1 has a black spine not white. Why is that?!
This is the first time it’s had a reprint.
Near Mint Condition Was the white cover one a DM variant then?
I'm somewhere in between i want the reprint and i need the reprint!
That's a good place to be. :)
Really hope they will reprint the "Death" & "Live" also
We as well.
By far, my fave Modern Cap run. I’m waiting on a delivery of ‘something related’ to this run, which is a mind-blower. Should have it in about three weeks. @Uncanny Omar, reach out to me for a preview when it a arrives 😎
I sure will, curious to see what it is. :)
Near Mint Condition Omar, feel free to email me: ken@kenworthing.com
You completely can. He creates lots of the tropes that Deadpool is known for
Beautiful 😍
Pledge allegiance to that!!! Patience pays off :)
Hahahaha. :)
Hey Omar, is there any update whether Vol. 1 will be restocked/reprinted soon? I missed out when it was reprinted earlier this year thanks
I know it was available in the book market.
Do you think the last 2 omnis will get reprinted? They were on clearance for the longest time.
I'm not sure. All I know is the first one.
As the year continues more and more will be available. I think they may announce more too, but I don't know. All I know is that it's a start.
FYI they have now reprinted the first Brubaker Captain America omnibus, The Death of Captain America omnibus is out in Aug 2021 and they recently announced a reprint of Captain America Lives for Dec 2021 so its highly likely omnibus 4 & 5 will be getting reprinted to
Omar, please tell David to consider combining the 2nd & 3rd Omnis. 😂
The Death of was voted into the top 10. So he knows, but we will see. :)
@@NearMintCondition 400+ pages is just like an epic.
Daredevil by brubaker vol 1 is out of stock? Any idea if it will be reprinted soon?
It's had two printings. So it will be a while.
Cool! But, i already have them all.
Good deal. :)
Never read Cap, is he corny in his comic? Like is he all "Language!" & "Murica!" or does he act like a modern day person would? Also are the Brubaker omnis a good entry, or should I start elsewhere?
No. He’s nothing like that here. :)
Do you know if they are doing these again??
The last three are coming back to print.
Never got into cap America. Where to start?
Either Waid's run or this one here.
Is there any Captain America material that has not been collected in omnibus format?
A lot -- Mark Gruenwald's entire run, Steven Englehart's '70s run, etc.
JM DeMatteis, Dan Jurgens, Rick Reminder.
@@nisus8 What about the Cap-Wolf stuff?
Only in Epic format. But so much still to collect in Omnibus format.
Steve Rogers super soldier art by Dale Eaglesham
And it was solid. So which series did Pacheco do, I know he did a mini.
Would you happen to have a place to pre-order the Vol. 1 reprint?
It will start being up for preorder at DCBS and Tales of Wonder.
Omar are you worried that marvel and DC may start pushing prices for omnis upwards?
If you’re in the omnibus game you already know it’s expensive.
@@renegade_legend2583 oh I know lol. I'm just worried DC and Marvel will try to push for 150 and maybe even 175$ omnis. Which even tho omnis are expensive there is a limit
Its bound to happen. Epics are going up. Look at the prices of Masterworks. I say 125 might be the new normal for Marvel. Even though the Cap is 100.
@@NearMintCondition very true Omar. Thanks for answering :)
Do you think they will be reprinting all of them?
So far vol 1 was reprinted with vol 2 coming out in August & vol 3 listed for December so hopefully vol 4 & 5 will get reprinted in 2022!
Is it safe to order from cheap graphic novels right now?
Sure, I placed an order just this past week.
sees 1 white spine and the rest black, eye twitches. hope to own the set someday.
:)
What are ed Brubakers 5 best runs?
Now that's a video.
Is there any release date for the reprints?
January 2021 for volume one.
Damn, still quite a bit far. Thank you.
I hope these all get reprints
Shud put retroview in the title
It's in the description. Maybe in thumb next time.
Can I read these online? If so, where?
I believe the Marvel App.
@@NearMintCondition Okay, thank you.
like
Never ever cared about Cap before this run n civil war
Gruenwald, Grant and Waid were my Cap.
Near Mint Condition Ah those guys are brilliant too. But I only read their runs after mark millar n brubakers
First!!!
@@benhammel9886 I appreciate the info. Thanks!
In my opinion, KoBK doesn't deserve the praise it received but this Cap run does. KoBK was pretentious without actually having much to say, while this Cap run is an actual game changer for several characters. It's just really good, I would 100% recommend it.
@@Mark-pl3bv This is what I was hoping for. I don't like mixing politics with comics. Too damn toxic. Thanks for the reply.
LOL I always take my DJs off.
