Sara I love that you're still working so much with creative people because I think that and the NYC vibes are what we come to these vlogs for. Its really you're own space on youtube and I love the casual but reaaaally useful things involving creative careers that anyone can learn from you and these vids.
So Awesome to "That Creative Life" come back!!! Was amazing being a part of it, I love this series and being in the same video as Debbie is just mind blowing! Thanks so much Sara!
Such a quality video! Loved Roberto's break down of the tripod strategy of content. Definitely going to start thinking about that for my RUclips channel. Thanks for always sharing such awesome creative inspiration! Love these kinds of videos
See here's the thing if you do use another platform never make it 100% of your income that's how you end up in a death spiral. Spread out and use what's available and for god sake, if you don't use a website at least back up your information/work on your desktop. I don't want to talk about how many clients have had issues with losing their clients. Also, customer funneling is hard, but well worth it when you do it right. Politicians are famous for funneling. So whereas I respect the "go where they are" I think there needs to be an emphasis on not relying on something to stay around forever and always have a secondary place for people to go.
Agreed Kate. I believe in both, I still think you need a place for them to come back to, and I do believe in using a website as leverage and have talked about this. I also believe in building an email list.
Precisely. I've worked on some funneling projects for others which is why I recommend it. Plus after working with RUclipsrs for years I generally see their struggle with their reliance on a single platform and many of them do rely on just RUclips income give or take some of the top creators.
Brandon M not a stupid question. so when you have an email list, people sign up because you have something awesome to offer them. every time you create a RUclips video you are offering something on that platform. an email list helps people get on to a more direct point of contact.you will have different offerings in the same genre to the email list. drip email courses. drip email to an upcoming sale your Shopify store will have. it's just another form of attention arbitrage. and one where you have more control than at the mercy of youtube or similar social media platforms.
Thank you, Sara, for sharing this amazing content. My takeaway is that you have to take care of your problems or challenges, even if they seem insignificant. Problems can absolutely grow if you don't take care of them. About needing a website... I think you need one, even if that is not your main source of engagement. You can keep it as a hub for your social media or just in case RUclips, Instagram, and others change or disappear; you have something that your fans can go to. It's also easier to proved give-aways and special content.
Great advice. The only real reason I have a website is for portfolio reasons. I actually don't really need one but sometimes when I apply for jobs they ask you for a website.
So so good. Inspired to read debbie's brand thinking book and start writing on medium after hearing roberto speak. Thank you sarah ! A single video made me so pumped to do things. MMMh yes this day starts well.
I love how she said Peach flavored haha! Interesting note on this- when I worked as a cashier at Whole Foods it intrigued me how customers would sometimes come in and say "I'm just buying this because the package design looks good" so true that gets them to initially buy it and if the product is actually good they will buy it again. Also how a lot of RUclipsrs rely on clickbait and the thumbnail and title is really interesting or shocking but then their content isn't as interesting so it's disappointing and makes me turned off to a lot of RUclips channels lately. I don't want to waste my time. You need to not only initially grab the attention with something compelling but you need to follow up with just as relevant or captivating and interesting content, which sadly many RUclipsrs don't do. But thank you Sara for videos like these, please keep them coming!
Don't get confused by the Title. It's never a bad thing to have a home on the internet in which you are in control. What happens if your platform you are investing everything into folds? Then what? 100% you can grow and do so much with social media and modern platforms. But all i'm saying is, a website is a great hub to your spoke. Will only help drive content and build your personal branding SEO! Can be very scary and overwhelming to get into building a website but there are so many amazingly easy ways to build a site now a days. I'm just lucky enough to have taught myself 10 years ago. Great Video though!!
Do not minimize what you do John. Not many people have the capability to produce content that more than 1000 people across the board ( see what I did there ? lol) will actually enjoy. (Considering that this is youtube of all places) Being a content creator in anyway is more praise worthy than I feel that you think it is. Point is keep doing what your doing and listen to Sarah :p
*uploaded 1 minute ago*..... (heavy breathing)....Crossing my fingers that Sara replies to this comment. Sara, you're a legend. Love your vids, your personality, your work ethic, and just you in general. Keep being awesome, do more awesome stuff!
This was really insightful. New viewer. Been watching dat boi John Hill for a while now and this video was suggested. Definitely subbing. I'm not even in the business of marketing or design, or even taking RUclips seriously, but this is good stuff for just putting content out there online correctly. I struggle with building an audience. Maybe I just never had the patience, but while yes social media is going to where the people are, it can feel like you're just trying to shout over a sea of 50 million other people shouting themselves, too. But, Roberto had some good stuff: you have to make it searchable, but unique. You have to have a signature that creates yourself as more of a personality than just a content creator. Anyways, great stuff, Sara. Defo smashing that sub button.
Just did an ad-hoc marathon on your RUclips channel and with these powerful influences with the likes of Casey N. and Gary V., this video really nailed it home of how you're pretty much a how-to RUclips guru in the making Sara! And by the way, I'm subscribed (:
I think having the short cuts where you sort of talk about what's being discussed in the interview is great. You processing out loud helps us process the info.
Still waiting for a video on how I can work while on the road/at home. After film school I plan on living in a van for a year or two. Will be adding that goal to my daily vlog.
Rocky Mountain High what!?!? Thank you so much! That's awesome, I'm a new channel and just finding my nitch..i just got some new equipment to help the creative stuff (hopefully..lol).but thank you so much for taking the time to watch! God bless! :)
Dryden! I recently started to really pursue videography & booked some gigs annnd I live in a van full-time!! haha! :) Such a small world. If you have any questions at all, let me know! Van life is seriously THE BEST, and so freakin freeing. Good luck brother!
This was the perfect video to get me grinding and hustling away at today's to do list! Feeling super motivated now. Thank you! Also, thanks for all the great tips! So good to have a bit of "That Creative Life" back in my creative life ☺️🍑
In think it's the best piece of content I've seen from your channel; don't get me wrong, I love your work... but this couple of interviews were very insightful and helpful... Keep it going... keep it simple; keep it worthy Cheers!
Wow!! Talk about bringing it up another level! Great job! Loved your interviews! Thank you! You continually amaze me with your ingenuity and creativity! I see the Force was with you! Blessings!!
Sarah, awesome interview! I first heard of Debbie 2 months ago after listening to Tim Ferris podcast. I haven't heard of your other guest but will definitely check him out. Thanks for sharing your insight on creating an online presence.
The library ... WOW !!! Right behind you ... Saul Bass; Designer of every Alfred Hitchcock generic titles , movie posters ... Le Corbusier ; architecture , furniture , even a church :Notre Dame du Haut ... Juste génial. Content ; Part peachy video , part creative space ... Voila !!! Thank you Sara ... :-)
I can understand not having a website, I don't with my videos. However, it is recommended that you use another platform, whether it be facebook, Instagram, twitter, or all the above. And a website can still be helpful, even though it's not necessary.
Yeah, I do get that. I feel it also depends on what your channel is about. If you have a channel that's promoting products and similar stuff like that, then yeah a website would be very beneficial. However, if you aren't trying to sell a product, then you don't need a website.
I love that you are doing these again! I know that you are focusing on creating more "timely content." Do you miss doing That Creative Life and Creative Spaces?
Thank you for this video. It was a great piece that's very relevant. Just started watching your channel a couple days ago. Great stuff homie. Keep up the good work.
A website for a creative person would be more as a nexus to point people to your creative outlets (be it RUclips, twitter, deviantart etc etc etc). The problem with relying on a platform other than your own for promotion is that you are the whims of those external platforms. It's a risk that you need to assess and make your own decision on. You don't "need" a website but having one may help.
This was her best video in awhile and feel like she really felt it in this, for all creators this was great but lets face it people trying to get new subscribers on youtube is getting harder, people that watch my video always say I don't know why you don't have more subs and the simple answer is put all then key tags you want but everyone try that only the one with the most views is on top, and if it sucks its removed.
Wow loved this one! I'm familiar with Roberto Blake's content but not Debbie Millman. I'll also be looking into Medium. I liked Roberto's analogy of the tripod in regards to the content you should be posting. Great ideas!
Having a website has been really beneficial for me so (I saw Roberto said this in the comments too) I think it does depend on what you're doing. Making a website on Squarespace is really easy and the templates are so fresh and modern. When I make sales contacts (email, instagram dm etc) to businesses to see if they're interested in collaborating on some videos for their websites & social platforms, I send them a message and say "check out my work on my website". It's worked really well for me and my business.
Well, you need a website if you're planning on getting verified on all the social media platforms. But if that's not what you're striving for than yeah.... you don't need a website.
Wow absolutely amazing information with true Heavy hitter's. Also I Loved Debbie's plackart on her Shelf.Pay Attention.Great Life Lesson. Thanks so much for sharing Deb.👌👍❤
Sara, you're so awesome! Thank you so much for this. Been trying to figure out how to get a website, and now we're looking into doing medium.com instead. Seriously, thank you soooo much.
I almost commented yesterday saying I missed these type of video, but I didn't want it to come across as demanding anything from you. Then the next day you release one! Guess you can add mind reader to your list of skills!
cool, I really liked this video and also this evolved kind of approach to the information you're putting out there for that creative life. Thanks Sara!
I've always wondered why people always recommended I get a website when I can use sites like RUclips, Vimeo, and Instagram to showcase my work. It all seems redundant.
So basically Debbie Millman said you shouldn't prioritize when it comes to problems. I think thats fatal, because when there are a lot of problems, people often tend to solve the "easy" problems first and push the difficult problems on for later, because they are intimidated by them. So there is already a subconscious prioritization, that favors easy to solve problems over hard problems instead of urgent problems over minor impact problems.
I think that the goal of this video wasn't saying websites are bad, it seems like a shoutout to more effective ways of selling what you do to the world.
Does this mean we'll never see you doing a sponsored promo for Squarespace like every other RUclipsr? lmao I think it's important to have a website to point people to professionally, ESPECIALLY if you have a large body of work. It's important to me that people see the best of the best. Yes I have reels, but I think that being able to highlight the storytelling versatility of what I make to potential employers is important to me. Ironically however, I DID just get an email this very morning saying my Wix subscription would renew in a month.....and I kinda want to move to Squarespace. Lol. Interesting what Robert and you said about video descriptions! real food for thought for me..... 🤔
You absolutely do if you're applying for a real job as a designer, copywriter, etc. They will ask for your portfolio during an interview and expect it to be a website. It's pretty much a standard . If you're doing it freelance or part-time then maybe not. But it's an expense you'll need to get a 9-5 job.
Great video and I agree you don't need a website to be popular its better to be followed on social media, like the was said in the video go to where the people are and have something they want. Just having a website doesn't guarantee anyone will even care about you but that said you can still have one and link it in the description of social media accounts and in reality unless you are selling something or trying not to be censored for content then most of the social media platforms already have what you need. So basically take away from this video get popular then make a website not one before the other and have something people want. Thanks and have a great day.
Thank you for this! This kinda of information matters to me. Yet, I've by far haven't mastered it! Email list is what I keep hearing from others, especially if you are an author, something I dislike myself. There's got to be a better way!
I would put Medium.com out there as the best way to get your name out. If you write good articles, they will get good link juice. That will establish your name a bit more then a blog would for sure.
Sara I love that you're still working so much with creative people because I think that and the NYC vibes are what we come to these vlogs for. Its really you're own space on youtube and I love the casual but reaaaally useful things involving creative careers that anyone can learn from you and these vids.

Roberto Blake so glad you guys finally got to do a vid together! 😊
Nefertiti Montoya did you miss the one we did over on my channel?
And ... I got the Wix ad saying "You need a website ???" when I clicked on the video :D Just perfect !
Fuck Wix.
hahhahhah
i almost did a brand deal with them and then i was like nahhhh that would be hashtag false advertising 😅
i back square space tho
same
One of my favorite vids Sara! Roberto and Debbie both gave several real gems in their interviews. Please keep this series going! ✌
Thanks Justin, was happy to be a part of it!
Roberto Blake always a pleasure brotha!
Such a quality video! Loved Roberto's break down of the tripod strategy of content. Definitely going to start thinking about that for my RUclips channel. Thanks for always sharing such awesome creative inspiration! Love these kinds of videos

Roberto Blake yaaas. grow that high quality email list!
Precisely. I've worked on some funneling projects for others which is why I recommend it. Plus after working with RUclipsrs for years I generally see their struggle with their reliance on a single platform and many of them do rely on just RUclips income give or take some of the top creators.
pmexplore sorry if this is a stupid question...but how does an email list benefit someone?
Brandon M not a stupid question. so when you have an email list, people sign up because you have something awesome to offer them. every time you create a RUclips video you are offering something on that platform. an email list helps people get on to a more direct point of contact.you will have different offerings in the same genre to the email list. drip email courses. drip email to an upcoming sale your Shopify store will have. it's just another form of attention arbitrage. and one where you have more control than at the mercy of youtube or similar social media platforms.

Great guests on this episode, Sara. Roberto always gets me to put my thoughts on social media/RUclips back into focus.
Your channel is so refreshing and unique! I'm obsessed with your creative passion and it's contagious! Love the content - keep it up! 🙌🏼

Danny Trombley I think at least a website sh hi update be us see details as a hub for your blogs, social medias, etc
I would say "feature me on one of these" but my intro would be "he's a 26 year old skater, and um....makes youtube videos....yeah"
BOI STAHP PLAYING LIKE WHAT YOU DO ISN'T A BIG DEAL you #werkkkkkk
John, LOL. Hmmm now you're making want to bring you on my podcast...
Sara Dietschy lol
Do not minimize what you do John. Not many people have the capability to produce content that more than 1000 people across the board ( see what I did there ? lol) will actually enjoy. (Considering that this is youtube of all places) Being a content creator in anyway is more praise worthy than I feel that you think it is. Point is keep doing what your doing and listen to Sarah :p
Can't believe you used Miriam Makeba's "Pata Pata" in the beginning haha. Your South African followers were all singing along.
Matt Del Grande, well it seemed to be some sort of trap remix
Yes we are!
Great video. Very informative! What do you think about using something like Medium as your website by redirecting a url to it?
*uploaded 1 minute ago*..... (heavy breathing)....Crossing my fingers that Sara replies to this comment. Sara, you're a legend. Love your vids, your personality, your work ethic, and just you in general. Keep being awesome, do more awesome stuff!
Roberto always have great things to share! Great to see you guys collabing!
Saw your tweet and decided we were hardcore creatives in the Peachy Fam. So here we are! Loving it as always.
I've been on the fence about this for awhile thanks Sara!
Sara, I love this type of stuff! Such insightful info that gets my brain going. Keep it up!

Such a helpful video Sara! I'm looking forward to the rest of the content you put into this series!

Really funny moment at 2:13 ! I just couldn't hold in my laughs!
I think having the short cuts where you sort of talk about what's being discussed in the interview is great. You processing out loud helps us process the info.

Dryden Joss dude sounds great!!! Do it bro!
Get an Anker Power house

Preciate this Sarah! Keep doing it. Texas FAM.
This was the perfect video to get me grinding and hustling away at today's to do list! Feeling super motivated now. Thank you!
Also, thanks for all the great tips! So good to have a bit of "That Creative Life" back in my creative life ☺️🍑
Roberto is just a genius in that field.. thanks Sara for bringing him to your channel
YES I AM SO FREAKING STOKED THIS IS BACK
Great tips! Is there a Medium strategy beyond 'post stuff there'? There's a lot less out there about Medium strategy than the other social networks.
In think it's the best piece of content I've seen from your channel; don't get me wrong, I love your work... but this couple of interviews were very insightful and helpful...
Keep it going... keep it simple; keep it worthy
Cheers!
Wow!! Talk about bringing it up another level! Great job! Loved your interviews! Thank you! You continually amaze me with your ingenuity and creativity! I see the Force was with you! Blessings!!
Love the fact that, as my eye wandered, it fell upon the big sign saying "PAY ATTENTION" above Sara's head
Ahhhhhh...Sara this was Great!!!!! Got my wheels Turing! Keep that creative hustle flowing! God bless!
Totally pinanable comment. 😆
I like Roberto's take on this. Websites matter if you want to get into the creative industry but you have to do the work and promote it...
Voila !!!

Oh yeah ! Looking forward to more of this Creative Space, very inspiring! This is what sets you apart!
This was a super helpful video Sara!! I can always trust you to bring wise creatives to my attention
Finally watched one of your videos till the end, first time in a long time..
I liked this one. Thanks Sara!
I love that you are doing these again! I know that you are focusing on creating more "timely content." Do you miss doing That Creative Life and Creative Spaces?
yay!love watching Roberto too.thanks Sara
Thank you for this video. It was a great piece that's very relevant. Just started watching your channel a couple days ago. Great stuff homie. Keep up the good work.
I loved this video SO much! THanks for doing the digging and I'm so glad I found your channel! Get it girl!
Love this vid. I'm a photographer branding, marketing is something I continue to struggle with but this vid helped get me on track. Mahalos 🤙
Seriously, this video is an absolute gem. Ridiculous amount of knowledge and info so beautifully presented :).
Appreciate this one ms. Peachy! Very informative. Well done. Keep it up 👍
I need Debbie Millmans bookcases. The "lady fucking gaga" cup is 🤣 - amazing as always Sara!
I needed this video at this time in my life more than any single thing in my entire life. thank you so much. I found your channel via John Hill. 🖐🖑
Awesome video Sara! Great video for helping us to keyword our videos. Every little bit helps
Yeah. Roberto knows all kinds off stuff and helps a lot. Debbie is the real deal.
So glad this series is back
thanks for this sarah. very insightful.
the irony of getting a wix ad before this video lmao
I like how the ad before this vid was about how I NEED a website. LOL!
Debbie really is a LEGEND!!!!
You are the bees kneezzzz..keep up the grind sara!! 🤙🏽
This video was great! I love hearing this stuff. Keep it up Sara!
Great episode! Very helpful. Almost at 200,000! Impressive and well deserved!
Awesome video and amazing guests, so cool to hear about creatives making problems! :)
Sara, you're so awesome! Thank you so much for this. Been trying to figure out how to get a website, and now we're looking into doing medium.com instead. Seriously, thank you soooo much.
Great stuff Dietschy! I love how I always know when I'm clicking on a Sara Dietschy vid it's going to be top notch! keep it up!
Don't know why it's exciting to be this early... but it kinda is 😀
You should do a series where you review some small channels.
i think this is a great idea! I second this!
Early bird, gets me to drop a comment! ;)
The notification popped up for me and I was the second like lmao
I appreciate what Roberto had to say
Great interviews. Thanks for letting others speak on your platform. Loved this video.
The tripod analogy at the end was really helpful!
LOVED this! Crazy helpful, thanks for making this Sara!
Wow, this was really helpful! It sure got me thinking! Thank you for this educational content that is so fun to watch.
So basically Debbie Millman said you shouldn't prioritize when it comes to problems. I think thats fatal, because when there are a lot of problems, people often tend to solve the "easy" problems first and push the difficult problems on for later, because they are intimidated by them. So there is already a subconscious prioritization, that favors easy to solve problems over hard problems instead of urgent problems over minor impact problems.
brian collins' "designers should be problem makers" ahhhh I love this!
So good. I've been delaying starting a website and you just convinced me not to! Just signed up on medium, never heard of it before so thanks!
Such an interesting video, as always! Great work, Sara!
this is why i like you sara! really good content and really helpfull!! love u
Really good to know about the video description. I had no idea.
Thank you so much for this. Awesome video and so informative. You're amazing ❤️
As a graphic designer and business owner, thank you for this video
I think that the goal of this video wasn't saying websites are bad, it seems like a shoutout to more effective ways of selling what you do to the world.
Does this mean we'll never see you doing a sponsored promo for Squarespace like every other RUclipsr? lmao
I think it's important to have a website to point people to professionally, ESPECIALLY if you have a large body of work.
Lindsay Daly yeah, I'm with you. I use a website for professional contacts to look at. I don't expect new people to find me there.
Lindsay Daly SquareSpace is infinitely better than Wix!
This is a great video. Thanks for sharing. I am trying to get to that place of living the creative life.
4:50 :)
This is great content for anybody trying to build a career in the creative world
Great video and I agree you don't need a website to be popular its better to be followed on social media, like the was said in the video go to where the people are and have something they want.
Love this style of video!
Thank you for this! This kinda of information matters to me. Yet, I've by far haven't mastered it! Email list is what I keep hearing from others, especially if you are an author, something I dislike myself. There's got to be a better way!
Thanks great video, and two wonderful guests; thank you
thanks Sara! lots of thoughtful insights 👍
You are amazing you deserve millions of subscribers I love you SO MUCH💕
I would put Medium.com out there as the best way to get your name out. If you write good articles, they will get good link juice. That will establish your name a bit more then a blog would for sure.
