Holy cow, Sara! Your website is SO legit, super strategic, comprehensive, and wonderfully designed. You totally hit it out of the park!
Now i'm insecure about my website...
Love u 🙃
You're a funny guy John Hill!
Just the website? ;)
You have no idea how great the timing of this video is! Your website looks amazing and I'm looking for all the advice I can get! 🙌
Loved this video! Walking through the process of how something is made and especially the resources used for inspiration are not talked about enough! Thank you!
This is amazing, Sara! It's incredible how you've created that by yourself. Definitely gonna take this as inspiration for the future
All I know is that I have booked a ton of work by having a nice dedicated portfolio and a contact page on my own site. It definitely works ... I’m a believer! I love Squarespace, as well.
So glad you are back and doing great....missed your peachiness! Your website is a true inspiration and looks awesome!
So, after years looking at ads for SquareSpace, you finally convinced me and I signed up with your link. I hope to get this ball rolling now! Thanks for the inspiration!
I'm actually right in the middle of building a website for my photography on Squarespace! I've done WordPress sites and gotten deep in all the plugins and customization you can do, but it's actually very nice to have a lot of that taken care of with Squarespace.
You continue to surprise me with your depth. When I first saw you years back, I kind of had this impression that you were a small town girl that was out of her depth and wouldn't last long (sorry). But then I found that you started as a guitarist, and then your hanging out with Peter & moving to NYC! More recently with you starting your podcast, and with Gary of all people, I was way impressed, not only with your networking but you're good. Now you're sharing how you built your website...stop it! I want to be Sara Dietschy when I grow up! Keep up the good work!
“I’m not a designer”... but designs the best website ever!
I don’t have a website yet but when I visit somebody else’s one I think it feels more real and intimate when the owner of the website speaks in first person. Don’t present yourself as a third person, come on!!! I AM SARAH AND I AM A CREATIVE CONTENT CREATOR! Hey its me!!!! That’s my 2, or 3 or 4 cents...I guess
Recently I created an online portfolio with writing samples to help me with applying for copyrighting, PR and social media jobs; it took me a solid 4 days. It was all worth it because The site was definitely helpful in getting me my current position! (: your website looks awesome, Sarah! I imagine It’s super rewarding to have a visual representation of all your work
Love it Sara! Super creative and fun website you got going! I'm totally rethinking my design now haha. Have a great weekend!
GREAT video Sara! I'm in the VERY early stages of building a blog page with Wix - not because I have a following but I just want to teach myself design and get back to writing opinions and creative content. This video inspired me because YOU did it YOURSELF! It looks GREAT and I especially like that you're completely transparent about taking ideas from other pages! Some would call that "stealing" but I think it's paying a compliment to the creator and you are VERY open about doing it so I think you wisely admitted to it! I hope to create my own piece of online real estate with better inspiration after watching your video! Thanks for sharing!
Sara Whoever said Redheads were Smart, Intelligent and Creative are Absolutely correct. Also reading Gary's Book right now. I think you are truly amazing and can't tell you how much I have learned just watching your Content. My days of Coding self-taught or playing around are through. But all seriousness I don't think I know anyone who can multitask better than you. I myself had my share of Coding back in the day and finished because I had too for Conversions and worked with a programming dept, But I have picked up so much with your Videos and Podcast then I did anywhere else and when I'm ready to make my move I know who to check out. I think your Work and Websites are truly amazing. Definitely don't sell yourself short because you are one of the most talented I have watched so far. When I find some time to get serious and I will.I know who to check out.And believe me I worked with some of the best.Just have to get through some personal things.Love your Work Ethic too.You are truly Amazing 👌✌❤💪Never Stop and don't let anything get in your way.Deb.
Yo! Sara that's a dope website! It's actually super satisfying to see such a nice looking website that makes sense and looks great! 👌👌👌
great video! love how you have all your gear listed on your website
OOO I love it! and I just listened to your newest podcast episode on design and holy moly I never realized how much can go into design.
Love the website Sara, Super dope!!! #Inspired
Sara rolling out the consistent awesomeness as usual :)
I'm weirdly proud of you. Website looks amazing! Don't need one at this point in my life, but it was good to see the process for in the future :)
Yay, back up for us all to enjoy.
This is amazing!! I’ve been working on my own website, and this gives me a lot of inspiration!! Keep it up, girl! ✌️
I love your videos and the inspiration you bring. You are every time on the hustle! :)
Perfect video for me right now! I don't have a website for my photo/video work yet just using social media but thinking about sorting something out soon :)
@johnhill and his mom was right on your podcast, you are an amazing business woman, I had no idea you were up to all this.
Oh my good, that's crazy f++k awesome! o.O the structure ist tremendous! Awesome work!
First comment on your channel. Thanks for sharing this. I think your site is a dope representation of your work and a nice portfolio presented in a dynamic way. It is sleek, streamlined and engaging. I found this helpful because I have always used wordpress and had contemplated square space, but never tried it because I feel like I invested so much time in learning wordpress. Anyhow, keep doing your thing. I lived in NYC for 5 years, so watching your episodes gives me a little bit of "home".
It's great how the preroll for this Squarespace video is the iJustine Wix ad.
lolololol wix is SAVAGEEEE
Actually using the inspector to preview CSS changes is a very OK technique!
I maybe can add a precision about Wordpress however: you have wordpress.COM, which is kind of the same type of platform as Squarespace where you modify your site via a webapp, and wordpress.ORG that is developer-oriented with a manual installation on the server and all of the coding.
Your website looks great! It’s really modern and shows your stuff pretty well!
For a person who doesn’t dabble in code for a living, it’s great :)
This is great Sara. Website = Table Of Contents for all your work.
You told "how" so well but I'm still overwhelmed. I have zero knowledge of coding. I might take a class to help. You gave great points but I learn better in a classroom. I like your website. Keep It Peachy!
Agreed... A website is essential! Thanks for showing squarespace, I personally use Weebly.
Well done, Sara. You're one of my favorites creators.
Perfect timing!
GREAT JOB....love the creative simplicity.
Inspect element does not change the website at all. It just changes what you see in your particular browser until you refresh the page or quit Safari
and that is what i discovered! haha after a couple hours.... 😬
Actually looks very rad 🙌🏼🙌🏼 great great job Sara!
Great video Sara! You and John are the main reasons why I want to start vlogging. I've been in kind of a creative slump too, so don't feel bad.
Pretty freaking hype on your new website honestly. As a web developer and designer, I assure you it look pretty good. Only minor thing I would change from first look is to alter the background color of each of the block on the home page. You really want your visitor to know quickly that your talking about a whole other thing. Other than that, look pretty professionnal for me !
For people who are thinking about making their website, couples advices :
1- Do not make it with Wix. It's shit. Really
2 - Follow the way your theme is build.
3 - Think about the time your spending to make it. Sara is great with photoshop, she's creative and have a background in tech. She took 1 week to do it. I think it would take at least 2 weeks for people without creative/tech background. Condsider how much your time is worth. Imagine you charge 100$/hour to make what your doing, dont take a week off work to do a job you could pay 1000$ somebody to make. It would be better in so much levels. But if you are just starting on your carreer and have a lot of time, I think it is a good move to make your own website.
4 - Shopify is good. But way too expensive on the long run. If you want a long term e-commerce, hire somebody. It will save you money.
5 - Wordpress is great. My favorite content management system. But it's not that easy to set up. If you want something easy, go for squarespace. If you want something pro, Wordpress is the one.
7 - If you want something unique, hire somebody. Thousands of websites are created using thoses templates.
8 - Web developpement is real fun, you should try it !
P.s. English is my second language, sorry for the typo's
Well done Sara! It’s nice to hear from someone who actually knows what they’re doing. (At least somewhat😉 haha) I think you’re off to a great start!:) Good luck! & God bless!
Your website looks very cool! Also I really like that creative shirt definitely gonna cop it when i get some coins
I love how it’s so well structured 🧡
(It’s weird so say this but) you captured your personality (at least what you let us see) so nicely 🧡❤️
I think any fan that visits the site will be like “this is so Sara” xD ❤️🧡💛
Hi: The website looks great. I noticed something as I was going through it. On the brand page clicking on some of the brands opened up a new tab on my PC while others did not. (just minor proofing stuff. Ya dun good, young lady) I like the new tab so you don't have to click back. I will try to go through everything and post any notes. I have been on the committee overseeing the Dallas Builders Association web page for 15+ years and modified a wordpress theme for my sites.
Your website looks awesome! I love the simplicity of it, but it's still really full of awesome content. Kinda makes me want to go in and revamp my website a bit...ugh, that's so much work, and I'm already so busssyyyyy lol
Loved this website tour/walk through!
For the Instagram part instead of having a static image you can embed the post itself into the website like you did for the podcasts
The site is great! Your podcast I love
That was too helpfull...thanks sara !👨🚀❤
Cool. Definitely going to check out square space.
Great intro Sara. Thank you for this video
Sara........... you are amazing, nice work and really smart, good job. Thanks for this awesome video
For not being a designer, you did a great job! Some of the pages could use some tweaking, but you seem to know that.
It looks great and simple and I'm jealous.
This is really good. I'm a web developer and I don't have that big of a website 😂 "content is king" is something you obviously understand and you've really shown that here, good job 👍
I'm about to make a website too! This is such good timing!! :)
Been like a week but glad to have you back
I like making websites but I did give up on it. But I might come back on it
Nice site Sara, I'd add more white space between blocks. It's OK to do that
Hey Sara, I tried to contact you on Twitter about this but couldn't get a hold of you.
I used a short 4 second clip from one of your videos in my latest movie. The video is not monetised and you are credited in the description.
Just wanted to inform you
Keep up the great content, love TCE btw
Great video on why a website is so important for RUclips creators. Your website looks awesome. Kudos on a great looking website. Personally I love Wordpress because it is the best out there for creatives. It gives you the most flexibility. But you are right there are lots of options out there. Thanks for highlighting the importance of a website
You are the best
You did an awesome job on your website!
Okay, looking at your website again because it looks fantastic, but there is one small thing that's bothering my OCD a bit: on your main page, the section about the Creative Exchange. The pink text box is cutting right into your face in the pciture underneath. It might be better to either make the box more narrow or move it down a bit so it's not doing that.
I´m Sold! nice explanation about the "global" thing. Like it!😉
Hi Sara, maybe you can answer my question. I've attended a comic con earlier this year that banned video recording of the panels at the last minute. So I recored audio on Zoom H2 recorder or iPhone 6s (whichever had battery power at the time) and posted the audio files as RUclips videos. I get lousy views and crazy watchtime on those videos. I'm leaning towards recording future panels as audio only. Should I create a podcast and a website for the audio files?
Awesome that one of my photos was used 🔥🔥🙌🏻
So stoked on the new website!! The only thing I think could function a bit better would be to have each podcast 'blog' post be a bit shorter. To me it just feels like a bit to scroll through. The bio and social links already very concise but maybe the pictures could be smaller in a grid layout or something. Again, love your work Sara keep doing what you're doing ♥♥
Well, even if this is the wrong account to be replying on it is the account that found its way to this video.
You covered the basics pretty well and while, up until this point, was quite dismissive of anyone talking about building a website that uses Wix or Squarespace you actually did a fair bit of research it seems for someone not a coder, server administrator, or a person with a team of designers, coders, and administrators behind her or him.
The disclaimer I would have given to Wordpress, which is even used by Fortune 500 companies but you just don't know it because Wordpress can be modified that much is that if you use it you better really know how to keep Wordpress secure and don't type "best web host" into Google because that will bring up the worst web hosts currently known except for 1 or 2.
I like Wordpress and Adobe Experience Manager. But I've been doing this since well before I graduated from college.
Definitely an impressive starting point :)
You did an awesome killer job. Loving the structure and layout.
Glad your "back" 😉
Hi Sarah!! Great video, a lot of inspiration! I love the Peggy sticker, where did you get it? Thanks very much!!
Love the site!!
sara i'd totally checkout webflow as well. it's pretty snappy.
I actually love your content ;)
PEGGY!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Nice website, cool to see how you made it
Great to see you coding and doing web dev, “one of us” 🤓
FYI if you're checking out someone else's page and you really like how it's done, you can use sites like builtwith.com and whattheme.com to help you figure out what they used. Afterall, imitation is flattery not a rip off, right?
Great video!!! Also in the description you put fill instead of feel above the link for the website
Site looks great, congrats.
Thank you for sharing your ideas in building a site 😎
......and you are only 24???? Girl, that is an amazing website! Kinda like a living, breathing resume. Keep killing it, as they say 😃💚💜
After both videos, I'm torn - idk whether I need a website or not. However, I do know that Peggy sticker is 🔥😎
Your site looks good. I am building a website right now. Unfortunately I only have old work to post on it. I want to create some new work to post to my site before I launch it.
The website looks great 🧡!
Great stuff!
I like that you're candid about your sponsors! I'm a cheepo@freewordpress.
This is super helpful :)
DOPE
Did u use square space or wix for this ?
I love it tho!
She's using Squarespace
John Honeycutt thanks
2things 1 Rapid Weaver is a Mac App that is great for website creation. 2 Where is your merch?
You re a super nice person keep it up 👍
This is a great video i just subbed for more content!! I am also a travel filmmaker! :D
It tells me to enter a password
why am i prompted to enter a password when pressing on your website link dearest and lovliest of all, Sara?
!!
FIXEDDDDD
thank you so much
Great video
"I went to school for computer science but in one ear and out the other." P(R)EACH!
I feel like I'm in the same boat, but I'm finishing my degree and focusing on my minors.
I like the website though; looks great! I always find the choice of first vs third person interesting on sites like these. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other, I think it just depends on the audience you are trying to cater towards. In my opinion, third person feels a bit more professional, but also less personal. For example, your home page (to me) feels more like some third-party company is trying to sell me on why I should follow you. And I think (I know you're not supposed to start a sentence with and) in your case, it loses something in doing that, because your whole brand is built on your bubbly, amazing personality.
Again, all of that is just my opinion, and it's really down to the audience your website is for, but I would suggest asking some other people, and consider changing it to first person, to help capture that peachy personality!
Anyway, great vid, Sarah, and keep up the awesome work!
Went back and forth on the first / third person thing!!!! Will def ask around and feel it out 👍🏻
Mmhh - would love to check it out but your website asks for a password?!? Or are you currently doing some maintenance?
fixed now!
Thx - good work - well done 😎
I got a Wix ad before this video, the irony!
You created a website better than all the ones that I created, and yet i'm a web developer.
