HDR in Witcher 3 has some issues but is still better than many other games. What do you think?
I still think this game and every game for that matter needs separate sliders for opacity and brightness regarding HUD and Subtitles, UI elements should never be tied to the paper white or peak brightness.
I have the Sony xh90 I use the custom HDR settings and it looks great
Tried your setting and it's looks indeed better 👍
Of course. The best game I've seen with HDR is Horizon Forbidden West.. But this is also looks pretty good 🔥♥️😍
@@gahuwothgahuwagaming no ghost of Tsushima ❤️
What would we do without this man. All games with different and botched HDRs. You help a lot not only our games to look better, but the industry by exposing this issues
Yeah. I would have definitely set the correct settings according to my monitor, which would have ruined the picture. He saved me a lot of headache.
Absolutely agreed
This guy still does CX updates and updates for popular games to keep us with the proper image on a certain TV. You’re the man thank you bro! 🙌🏼🙌🏼☝️
although this was on a G2?
Thanks for being so quick on getting these settings out! You're awesome!
Oh my gosh thank you!! And such a fast upload too, perfect timing! I used your other Witcher 3 video to figure out gamma for the hdr, but so happy they now have a normal hdr settings option. As a non tech guy thank you so much for explaining how hdr works and for recommending settings. I have an LG C1 and it’s looking great as far as I can tell. I’m not great at seeing the difference yet (since I don’t have an sdr to compare it too), but I’m learning and your videos help a lot. I just know it looks great lol! But now even better thanks to your help. Thank you!!
You are the man! You helped me out with my Calman Calibration on my Lg C1 and here you are helping me once again with my settings for the Witcher 3.
Please never stop what you do your content has helped many people, thank you for everything 🙏
Thank you. You are so quick with releasing these videos and the explanation is great.
Thank you very much. I'm a big snob when it comes to visuals and I'm very happy that someone has a video about this so soon after the update. Wonderful work.
Great video. I think it is a great upgrade that you can show the change in peak-brightness dynamically now and don't have to only use screenshots
Thanks for the video and great to see time stamps 🥳
Its insane how good this channel is, my go to ressource for literally any hdr game! Amazing, thanks a lot!
great video bro, i knew something was off and turning the hdr sliders to max seemed to fix the issue for me but I couldn't fathom turning paper white to 500. glad to see you explained it. please keep making more videos! subscribed
amazing tech channel my friend, just pure information and no lengthy bull shit videos, straight to the point, thank you
your channel is very unique. love the content keep it up! and damn The Witcher 3 Looks incredible.. 8 years old too..
Love your work as always brother!
This tool is very useful, thanks for the video!
I'm playing on PC and thanks for your video. Knowing to max out the HDR settings really is what it needs to be if comparing it with other modern games. Thanks
Thankyou so much. Was wondering why my game looked so weird. Tried 1500/500 and it looks perfect on my c9 with hgig. You're a legend! Subbed
Thank you so much for these videos man, you rock!
Deine Settings sind der Hammer. Ich selbst nutze für meinen PC ein LG C3 in 42" und diese Settings lassen sich perfekt auf diesem TV anwenden. Besten Dank für Deine Hilfe! :)
Thanks! Really appreciate the hard work you deliver to the videos
Hello! Unfortunately, I do not speak English and would be very grateful if someone wrote what settings should be set. Thank you in advance!
THANKS great video!
I was about to do a play through of this on my c2. Just got the c2 a month ago. Didn’t know about this hdr update or the problems. Thank you for what you do.
I got the LG C2 6 days ago. I hadn’t finished my play through of TW3 yet and I got to the nighttime cut scene where Geralt helps the Captain of the Ducal Guard during Night of the Long Fangs and was blown away with just how amazing it looked.
Although…this is my first OLED TV so everything is impressing me right now tbh. Lol
@@anthonyhiggins7409 hell yeah. I love mine. I play 3840x1600 and I can never go back to 16:9. Also some games you have to put the output to limited otherwise the game looks washed out. The Witcher’s hdr is proper so auto is correct but I switch it to limited for Spider-Man and cyberpunk. Also if I play any non hdr games (gta v) with hdr on in windows go limited.
Thanks for the help!
I played it on PS4 and bought the game again yesterday (after finishing Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty 100%) for my Series X. Thank you for covering witcher 3 just in time. Changed the settings (like you recommended) right after watching your video.😊
Best guy to search for hdr settings thank you sir
As you can see the when you cast igni the fire embers reach 1500 nits, the slider is correct just sun isn't the brightest thing in the game.
Another great video.
Great work thanks for the video! I really wish CDPR could finally polish these next gen versions properly but i think we are gonna be stuck with these glitches and graphical issues forever 😢
Thanks a lot ! I was just going to write a message for a setting of this game :) thx ❤
Keep up the good work my friend 👌
Love your work, btw, in which mode are you playing? Rt ou perfomance?
Great work as always. I love how the game looks during the day, but I do think the nights are way too bright. There is a mod called "Darker Nights " (and specifically its "enhanced" version) which you can control night time brightness levels without it affecting specular highlights but sadly it's currently not compatible with the latest patch.
@@cjp.6880 I don't think so since if you go into a cave or other shaded place it'll just be as dark as always.
Thank you! I have a budget 500 nits tv. 950 max brightness and 380 paper white seems perfect for mine.
I like your videos… ❤ very useful. Ty 😊
I'm loving the new ReShade_HDR_shaders ... thank you for highlighting it!
First, it confirms what was obvious anyway - the behavior of the picture in the menu doesn't reflect what happens in game.
Second, I have found the maxCLL you get looking at the sun is seems to be basically 2 times the Paper White - so one should set Paper White to half the max brightness of your TV (with gamma at the default). Max Brightness has little effect if it is > 2*PaperWhite. I'm guessing this is a bug of the auto-exposure or tone-mapping algorithms in the game.
However, there's at least one exception - if Bloom and light shafts are enabled, then the shafts can go much brighter than 2 times paper white. Therefore, I think it best to set Max Brightness just a 100-200 more than your TV's actual max. Why might this be? I believe it's standard that Bloom is added after TAAU/FSR/DLSS, and therefore after the exposure calculation so can it exceed the 2*PaperWhite limit.
One more complication: if you reduce the gamma then the brightness of the sun (without light-shafts) can go a bit higher than 2*PaperWhite! This allows you to squeeze out 10-15% more dynamic range, not more or it will make dark caves too dark. The default gamma in dx12user.settings file is 1, the GUI slider moves it 0.02 per step. In a normal or bright room 0.9 (five steps left) seems good. If playing at night with lights off then 0.8 (ten steps left) is about the lowest you can go.
I actually made the VibrantHDR mod (now deprecated) that added a HDR menu before CDPR did. The settings have actually been in dx12user.settings since nextgen launched - it was just the menu that was missing. I could see the settings behaved a bit weird - my recommended settings were to increase paper white and decrease gamma. I wasn't quite sure why that worked nor the exact optimal values. I'm starting to understand now.
Hello! Unfortunately, I do not speak English and would be very grateful if someone wrote what settings should be set. Thank you in advance!
On an LG CX, I settled for 900 nits, 200 paper white, with DTM on.
Anything brighter for paper white makes the whole image overly bright, especially at night or in cloudy scenes.
Maybe I'll revisit it, though, if that means I'm limiting highlight brightness. I need to keep DTM on though. The CX just gets too dim in so many other titles, with HGIG, and I'm not someone who's going to switch back and forth per game. The CX just doesn't have the raw brightness necessary for HGIG to work well, usually, unfortunately.
Hey, thanks for revisiting this and providing some clarification with Witcher 3's HDR.
I just wanted to clarify something about the PC version of the Witcher 3. I've been experimenting with the 'Monitor Brightness' and 'paper white' sliders and taking screenshots and viewing them on the HDR + WCG Viewer app. It seems to me that maxing out the brightness slider causes the game to output a maxCLL of over 1000nits which is beyond the capabilities of my LG C1. However, maxing out paper white does bring the highlights up to 797nits which is closer to the peak brightness of my TV. Should I still max out both sliders in my case?
Thanks again for the helpful content.
I am also curious about this on my C1
Thanks so much , I set the max brightness 600 coz my tv max nits is 600 , which is wrong according to your video
I fixed it Now it looks so much better , you are right this next gen upgrade is quite amazing☺️
What about about paper white?my tv is also 600 nits
My tv is also 600 nits peak brightness I like to leave this game at 1000 to 1050 peak brightness and paper white at 450 to 500 when he set it first to 1000 peak brightness and 300 paper white you can see it stays a bit lower than 600 nits so keeping it at 1000 to 1050 and just putting up the paper white should be good on a 600 nits tv imo I tried 1500 peak brightness but it's way too bright for me
Thank you. I only have a 500 nits tv and your setting made it look awesome. @@assassin3003
Thank you this video help alot
Thanks !
What settings do you recomend for we people out there that have monitors without HGIG like the LG 27" oled? If I max everithing out it looks very good during daylight but at night its too bright, but if I lower paper white then higlits dont get bright enoug sadly
Love your accent. Subscribing cause your so helpful.
Ich danke dir!😊
Always look for this man's vids before I start a game.
I have a question too, I haven’t messed with it yet, but if I were to try to make the moonlight not as bright, would I change gamma settings or paper white settings? I’m thinking gamma because you wouldn’t lose any detail in specular highlights (and the black floor won’t be affected by turning gamma down lower), but maybe I’m wrong? I guess also in general, why wouldn’t you just crank up to 1500 and 500 for all the details, and then adjust gamma down if it’s too bright? Maybe that’s why they kept the gamma setting? I have no idea lol, I’m not a techie.
Thank you. Please also do one for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty
Please do HDR test for Layers of Fear.. Thanks n appreciate all your contents!
That's the plan. I got the PS5 version. Hopefully tomorrow!
@@GamingTech-RUclips Hopefully you get to do PC version as well
The HDR in Layers is absolutely rubbish.
Thanks for this. Used same settings with C1 and HGIG. One question though, do you think that having all sliders to max brightens up the night image higher than it should?
Great answer from Him 😅👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
@@whitewolf1054 Yeah, tbh didn't even bother. I do not like how it brightens the night, so for me it's a no go with these settings.
I know you are comfortable with talking about LG all the time, but what about TVs that _don't_ have HGiG option? Like a Sony OLED for example - the one I happen to own. Thoughts?
PS. The problem with leaving the gamma setting to default, is that the nights are _still_ too bright, especially in the original game, not as much in the Blood and Wine DLC. I argue you still have to adjust the gamma regardless.
Thanks :)
Great video gaming tech. I would ask for Remnant 2 hdr settings but the game has no hdr like the first game so we will have to use Auto hdr, always on hdr or the LG menu trick to enable, which is what I will be doing.
Nice 🔥
Any update on the Diablo IV black level raise issue after latest v1.1 season 1 patch?
Hello, my friend💋 With such a question, I decided to turn only to you, since you are a real professional. LG C3 to which TV is similar in peak brightness from those TVs that you most often write for the recommended settings? CX? G2? G3? C1? C2? Or Samsung? Thank you ❤
It's great that grass collision has been brought back, it should never have left, but it's significantly nerfed compared to the classic edition, grass in this new patch barely reacts to player movement at all, and the grass parting effect when you would use the aard spell is completely removed, next gen = a more static game apparently? very bizarre....
I kind of find it more realistic how the grass moves while geralt walks around
Hi, if possible can you look at The Crew Motorfest beta? I played for a bit and even though I put the black slider all the way down it appears there are raised blacks everywhere.
On my C2, when I set the gamma slider to default (centre) I can not see the logo at all. I have it near the "a" from barely
Esse canal e show, obrigado.
What paper white setting for dynamic tone mapping? I find hgig to dim to use. Love the videos!
the higher the better! if you like PW 500 go for it. Increase max peak to 1500 as well
@@GamingTech-RUclips awesome thanks!
amazing again, Thank You
Could you please say the name of the HDR tool you are using?
Hello. Where can I find information about how many nits a TV has? I have a Phillips The One 50PUS730012 but I couldn't find the exact nits value anywhere.
EDIT: i found out, that in Witcher 3 it doesn´t work like it should. Paperwhite affects Peak Brightness also, which is a bad thing. But that shouldn´t happen. So normally the text below would be true. But specific with Witcher 3 i would probably not go below 350 (speaking for Tone Mapping TVs). Otherwise it would affect the Peak too much. With 500 i got the best Peak while measuring.
//
Paperwhite should be (imo) like SDR 100% white for your room (so i set it like my calibration goal on SDR, in my case 180 Nits for example - i would say 200 Nits max is best in general for a natural picture in gaming). That SDR and HDR games look identic in terms of avg brightness in normal scenes. But in HDR you get more highlight details and of course also bright highlights and scenes if needed.
Now the game looks much more natural on my PS5 and my QN90A, while bright lights stands more out to the eye. But i use LD low in game mode for the most stable picture, means it reaches only 700 Nits and i have to go with 1000 Nits (but 1500 would be also possible) for the best working tone mapping in my games (with static tone mapping like on the C the true Nits should work better). On Gamma and in general other values in games general i would only do small changes up or down for the better details, depending on the panel / tone mapping. Mainly reducing or lowering contrast for fine details. Make it looking more "punchy" and contrasty will end up in an unnatural look from my experience.
But on Witcher 3 i would leave Gamma at middle (one step behind the 9. line in the middle, starting with full left and including the first out line). And then setting Paper White to your SDR White (or up to 200 Nits) and on peak to the true peak brightness of your panel with HGIG / static tone mapping;
Or to 1000 Nits if it is an older Samsung without static TM option (only C models have it for now) and / or u are below 1000 Nits (also in PS5 / Xbox menu). Because with 1000 Nits as goal the DTM works the best from my experience on these type of TVs with DTM. But it may vary from brand to brand. Hisense i think the original Max Nits is better from my tests on a TV in the past. If not sure do some reearch. But for Samsung it is how i write. And LG go gor HGIG and true Nits.
Nice
My tv has 330nits it is nano nano763qa. So should I set max monitor brightness to 330? And how high should i set paper White in that case?
Still waiting for cyberpunk and diablo 4 to get proper hdr support.
So disable the Dolby Vision for Series X and turn on the HDR10?
If I use the settings you told, the sky became all white without details of clouds near the sun
So my sun is basically a circle with a glow around it. Is this normal in HDR?
how can i get the program to show me my nits on top left?
I had TW3 as one of the best HDR games on PC. They couldn't help themselves. They had to mess it up
Do you have tips mounting the g2 on the Wall ?
Not really. I used a third party wall mount not the included one
What's the size of the update on xbox?
This is great and all… but the settings you’re showing are with the raised (not factory) gamma setting. Don’t you need to set it back to factory and re-test before you encourage people to crank up the hdr settings in game? The examples you’re showing are all with the raised gamma and not the factory gamma like you keep implying.
Hi do you have one the ps5 Settings HDR always on or only on when supported ?
If you’ll have my answer, I’d strongly recommend using _On when supported_ because with the other option you’ll implements a HDR effect in game that don’t support HDR, and they’ll be off, too bright. It’s ultimately up to you but this is the objective tip.
Heres a question? Do u look at hdr so much sometimes all runs together or u dont see it accurate sometimes,? I donr think my hdr is ever correct cause c1 u just simply cant use hgig its way to dark, but somedays itll be like wow look at that hdr and some like i dont notice its weird
You must give a time to your eyes adjust. I own a C1 and I couldn't stand HGIG at first, until I play "fenyx immortals rising". Tone map on is way too bright on that game, so I gave HGIG a try. Now I just can't use tone map in any game cause I find it too bright
Man, HDR is frustrating with some games. For 750 nits, do you happen to know where should I set the HDR settings?
So for c1 maybe 1200 and 500
Is hdr on in console settings as well ?
Unrelated or related to HDR, but is anyone else getting two thin red thin lines at the top & bottom of the screen when/after using Witcher Sense? Or maybe it's just my display?! Playing on performance mode.
Yes.
You are the guy great work
Is this setting is good for any 4k tv i have a tcl 4k led tv what should be my hdr settings?
Tell me if u find out
Could you share your TV settings with us specifically for the C1 ?
He told you the settings in the video....
So what should I do for the C1?
Siniliar or same im guessing
Man, is there something wrong with the reshade UI regarding the color gamut? everytime I see it open it displays BT709 (while HDR is ON) 😂either it's something weird with the display UI or the games are just not "true" HDR which is ...ridiculous 😂😂 I heavn't seen you or Ariel opening any game with reshade and HDR and showing something else than BT709.
Witcher 3 supports dci p3 to some extent but most of the game is in bt709. Nothing wrong with reshape.
Si mi tv tiene 350 nits y tengo hgig activado deberia dejar los nits en 1000? O debo poner la cantidad que tiene mi tv?
Déjalo a 1000 ya que si lo dejas a lo que es tu tv no llegara a esos nits en este juego
Setting this game to max peak brightness and 300 to 500 paper white shocks my eyes lol especially in a dark room way way too bright
Yes way to many of his settings are way to bright, makes night-time in games look so poor.
@@phillydavison You can correct that by lowering gamma but if you go too low with gamma it will look bad on daytime. the game's nights and caves are just too bright in general for my taste. You cannot really fix that with in-game settings. I remember playing the game in 2015 on a regular SDR monitor and already thought back then that caves are too bright.
I have 350-400 nits samsung crystal uhd TV 75 inch. In 1500/500 everything looks way to bright
Very interesting video! Thank You!
Sadly in patch 4.04 there are still so many game breaking bugs that the best idea still is to wait and not try to start a new play through. As good as it looks, the game still is totally broken.
Totally broken? Are you talking about the same game? Sound like you’re wildly exaggerating. The game is in its best form as ever. But, you do you.
Yeah Dolby vision is for movies only 👍
For me your settings are completely wrong… C1 with series x… if I set to 500 paper white, the sky is just a bright mess. In 300 I can see the outline of the sun. Either hdr 10 hgig or dolby vision.
What do you use, 1500 max with 300 paper white?
On C1 i would not go higher than 200 Nits (more like 170 up to 200) and Peak at around 750. With HGIG. And make sure your console hdr nits are also correct.
@@TANuclear Actually, I prefer dolby vision. Then it is basically doesn’t matter the brightness settings. I don’t see a difference so I just use 1000… paper white is a different thing. I think 300 is a good value. But that is a preference thing also.
Plus at 500 paper with the UI is uncomfortably bright.
For the few fps fanatics out there : They improved the fps in the cities on ps5.
"few" lol
Remnant 2 next?
no HDR support as far as I know. At least for the PC version
thw witcher 3 loses all color when i turn on my hdr , on asus rog swift oled monitor it looks so shit
Hey Friend I'm on s90c and I did what you say but the tv blew my eyeballs away 😂😂. Can you please help?
Performance or Ray tracing on C2 ?
If u want higher fps performance
Ray Tracing
Depends on if you want better performance or visuals.
Samsung love please!?
