yeah, seeing such scumbags as this one here and many or all of the so called artist" is NO favor too anyone, these nasty persons make themselves as idols to many many young people tweak and waste their lives.
Man, I can relate. Age 14, my mother helped me purchase a new Amp to play in a band in 1965. Got beat up by who I thought was my father. Age 17 left home from Oklahoma entlisted USMC. After my discharge met a lady in Chicago. After 17 years of marriage to my soul mate, I was forced to make a decision for DNR Do Not Resuscitate. She passed away Age 36 from breast cancer. I made a promise to my wife before she passed away to keep playing my Fender bass. It took a few years but picked it, encouraged by my two sons, ages 13 and 16. Here it is, 2024, Age 75, still playing my bass. Never give up playing music.
What a sad way to end a great career.

IT'S INTERESTING THAT WHEN A CELEBRITY HAS DRUG/ALCOHOL ADDICTION ISSUES....it is often acknowledged that that it is often a result of understandable emotional struggles and personal stress due to job/career. That same understanding is rarely extended to the average person who deals with the same issues.

Having the resources to access them is another matter. American healthcare stigmatizes the pursuit of the treatment of mental well being in a way it would never be permitted to do with due diligence regarding chronic physiological disorders
It's also interesting that Eric pays it forward. He runs and supports a rehab center in Antigua where if you can't afford to pay, it's free! That's why he has his Crossroads concerts. To raise money for the center!!

The title is deceiving. Yes, Eric went through stuff. We all do. He created his own hell with alcohol and drugs and came out better for it. I discovered him when I was 14, dealing or not dealing well with the loss of my father. I have been a fan for 55 years. He freed himself of alcohol and drugs by the late 80s, found love in the early 2000s, and has four beautiful daughters and a wonderful wife. He has had a few health issues of course. His playing and singing are better than ever. I've seen him in concert twice in the last year and 28 times total. He continues to support and promote up and coming artists with his Crossroads guitar festivals that also raise money to support his Crossroads rehabilitation center that treats the poor for free. He has shown generosity and kindness towards fellow musicians who have fallen on hard times. He has donated and supported many good causes without making a public display. If I were to guess I'd say he's a happy man and deserves to be.

@@jims5922 I’m really glad he got out. I’m not jealous of it. I just wish it was a bit easier for the rest of us. I’ve watched so many “friends” go down over drugs or alcohol. I’m one of those people. I’m alcoholic. I’m one of the “good” kind? I don’t get arrested, or cause a ruckus, or crash cars, or any of that crazy stuff. My family loves me, spends time with me, respects me, ask me for advice, and tells me their problems. I’m disabled, but I work all day for my large family in a big house, with a ton of critters. I’ve been sick, amazingly not alcohol related, for a while now. All my organs are in good working order, I just stopped eating. Im on the mend. But getting care on Medicaid for mental health issues, when you admit to alcoholism, almost slams the door in your face. First, I have to go through detox. I’ve been throwing up for 6 months, and you want me to agree to do it some more?? And I have to leave my family??? I’ve looked for outside counseling. I can’t afford it. Just seems like the cart is before the horse.
It isn't a shock about Eric because he's getting up there in age and that's how it is. I'm just glad he was with us as long as he was and didn't die an early death like so many other musicians that went down that road.

Did not mention the profound sadness Eric felt when Jeff Beck unexpectedly died. A great friend of his since the mid 1960’s and at times rivals which made there relationship complicated; however, they shared the stage with one another from time to time for 6 decades and did a World Tour together in 2010. Eric arranged a tribute concert for Jeff and also released a single of him and Jeff playing “Moon River”. The cover was a picture of Eric and Jeff walking in a snow covered field with one of Jeff’s dogs.
I remember the day I bought the just released “cream“ album. it’s impossible to describe the excitement and love that people had for this album, which changed rock ‘n’ roll forever.
Shame you didn't share about his Crossroads drug rehab centre and the annual Crossroads rock and blues concerts which raise millions to support others with addictions. He deserves credit for his ability and desire to help others who struggle with similar issues that he and so many of his peers also struggled with.

I love Eric Clapton and of course his Music. He has endured and overcome more issues than the average person. I finally saw him in 1998 in concert. He was awesome. The best concert I've ever been to. And I've been to a lot of them, thank you Eric for your music and just being you.❤
Clapton has a way of reminiscing his life and therefore remain buoyant in spirit.
Clapton's autobiography is a brutally honest look at his pain, his troubles, and his addictions. He was never high near Ginger Baker as he literally thought he might kill him. He recognized that people around him were dying. He feared needles so he sniffed heroin which cost more. He feared being a front man as he's not that strong a man by his own admission. The book is a great read.

I cannot forget what B.B. King said about Eric Clapton at one of the Crossroads festivals. " I met with kings and queens but never saw a better person than E.C." Wow.

Yes he's lived a life most people only dreamed of, it's a shame what happened to his son but tragedy can hit anyone, it's called life.

Despite his many problems, Eric, along with Jimi, Bird and Trane, he has lifted me out of my own despair more times than I can count. I love man, a magnificent musician, but I love him mostly because he is a flawed human, like most of us, yet has somehow channeled his frailties into great art! Long live Slowhand!

I never met Clapton,he was a early influence and when I went to play in England, my manager promised .I could at least meet him, shake his hand.This was 1972, and .I was told he would see no one, he was dealing with a heroin problem.What a disappointment!

Yes, issues of early innocent abandonment and childhood confusion. Me too. It pushes us to a new love that is only yours and will never let you down. Music, though it can be a lonely path. But it’s important too.
He is a great guy I flowed his career, since he was a young man, we were all a bit crazy 50 something years ago Im an old guy myself now. please let him do what he enjoys, whatever it may be, just love what he has achieved since he was a young man.

Eric is a class act! He has said and done ridiculous things just like the rest of us. A perfectionist, a purist and absolute ambassadors for his profession. I follow him and have 52 years. You would have to be a very specific kind of idiot to not see that. As for his shows….he is a very humble guy and prefers not to be out going crazy on stage, it’s just not his deal.

I feel bad for Eric. His contemporaries are, sadly, dying around him. He’s becoming the last man standing of one of the most important periods of the development of rock and blues-rock music.
Keith Richard will be the last man standing, sustained by rocket fuel and cigarettes and the blues....
So sad that he has been tortured by his walking past where his son had fallen when failing to accept what might have happened is 100% natural and understandable.
In his book, he mentioned that a fellow participant in a 12 step program told him that his not relapsing after the tragedy was inspiring to the point of leading to her maintaining sobriety.
Sad that giving us so much joy with his songs he has to pay such a heavy price.

Yes Clapton has had his share of troubles but unlike most of us mere boring mortals he's lived possibly 4 or 5 lives and is leaving an exceptional musical legacy behind him. He's lucky or unlucky whichever you prefer but he's still there and making history.
I used to watch him play with Cream at the Riki Tik Guildford when I was a teenager
I grew up with Eric Clapton always wanted to jam on stage with him .but problem never will but I do his songs with my Rudy T Band keep him out there. A great guitarist he is. And a great history of a musician

I saw Clapton in the mid to late 70s he stood with his back to the audience for the whole concert, I was so disappointed in one of the few musicians I loved to listen to.
Those were the dark days. I too saw him in the 1970s. He appeared angry and closed off. He would do "long" solo riffs, and at one point his other guitarist took off on his own solo riff. Clapton came over and chewed him out. I thought he was going to fire him on the spot, in front of an enormous audience The poor guitarist just stood there and took it. What else could he do? Clapton was an asshole that night and I "personally" would have punched him out and walked off stage.
Only a few can stand the heath of over exposure and the industry squeezes you like a lemon I say this as a independent musician just doing my thing 😅

i was 17 and traveled to nyc to see the mothers of invention, but they were sold out and someone suggested to go next door to cafe a go go and hear the debut of cream in america,, needless to say their performance was breathtaking and clapton became a near god to me----the memories have never left me

Having been a fan since his days with the Yardbirds and following his musical explorations up until today I can say he had a blessed life inspite of his trials and the traumatic loss of his son. He is a remarkable man to have endured so .uch anguish in life. Still in all his life rewarded him with great friendships and romantic experiences many would be envious of. He has grown to become an icon of musical fame and his music and performances over the years especially the guitar festivals will rank him in the top rankings of performers in my mind.
I love it when these celebrities discover that life is not a cakewalk. Now all of society seems to have become aware of how life has not catered to them. Time to get over ourselves. Everybody’s life is filled with trials and challenges. You either fail or overcome them and get on with life; and also get over yourself. None of us is the centre of the universe.

I had a " very minor " injury - I was T-Boned in an intersection in my van, and the car that hit me sent me " Sailing " on a 45 degree angle across that intersection crashing straight into a telephone pole.
The dashboard of my van had caved in and crushed my right leg.
The doctor treated me to a surgery that placed a stainless rod in the marrow of my right Femor [ the largest bone in the human body]
The doctors put me to sleep ( general anesthesia) -and I solomnly swear. - I heard Don Patterson and old Booker Ervin playing " The Hip Cakewalk"

He is the only performer I ever spent the night camped out to get tickets. I was able to see him in 1974 or 1975 at the HIC Auditorium in Honolulu. He was amazing and his band was superb. Yvonne Elliman, who was from Hawaii, along with Marcy Levy were his singers and Elliman was a big hit when she turned around on stage to show a pineapple on the back of her black satin jacket. When they did Badge it was a showstopper. A spectacular evening.

This man carved out a living playing simple blues, the music of the black man whom REALLY HAD the blues from the way he was treated, especially in the old south but basically all over the United States until it began to thaw out thanks to Jackie Robinson and the brave black men and women who followed..Clapton got it all cleaned up and perfected over in merry old (mostly) lilly white England and I never could stand him for it !! (I'm white)....
I don’t mean to be crass here, I love Clapton’s contribution and undeniable talent but in life you reap what you sow for everyone. Makes him absolutely human. Being raised by your grandparents could lead you to the Whitehouse.
I can relate to Eric's comments about his son and understand his initial reaction. He certainly has no need to feel ashamed, his reaction is a reflection of the depth of loss, so great that you reject it as not being possible to live with.
When I was told at the hospital that my 16 year old daughter had not survived a knife attack at school I wanted to capture the words from the doctor's mouth and put them back where they came from. Then I was desperate to see her because they must have made a mistake. The quick senseless death of someone who you cherish and would give your life for is devastating at the time and they never leave you.

I have seen Mick and Rory quite a few times each, live at the Marquee and Clapton at Sunbury and the Albert hall.
I loved all of their performances, but if I had to, I would place .
1. Hendrix, although sadly I never saw him live.
2 . Clapton
3. Page/ SRV/ Green/ Beck/
And others only just slightly lower and almost as good and on the same platform.
A lot of times it is about the Performances at the time.
He's definitely a significant rock music contributing person. But what a messy life he's had. 😢

Bob Dylan's response to being asked for advice as a role model resonates with this idea: 'No, no, no, I'm just me.' He emphasizes that we shouldn't idolize celebrities, as some may be more lost than we are.
I feel awful for AC's childhood, that would be hard. No wonder he is a master of the blues.
One of the first albums I bought was the Yardbirds with Clapton, that was over fifty years ago! Damn I feel old!
Eric Clapton said he'd found a left handed Fender for Jimi Hendrix (!) and was at a gig , walking around with the guitar to present to Jimi, in London and it was so busy with too much going on, he had to wait... it just when Jimi died a few days later ☮😢✌🎻🔔

His long time friends and even his children attacked him and some refused calls and texts and emails from him. He carried a doctor's note explaining why he couldn't get boosters. He had to schedule recording and performing dates based on the sensations in his fingers. 😢
Bulls#!t. His reaction to the vaccine was due to a preexisting condition because he demanded receiving ONLY the British version, (which was the equivalent of 18th century medicine) rather than the Phizer or Moderna, which wouldn’t have had the same effect on him. He broke my heart when he used his celebrity to stop many, many people from getting the vaccine and thus, being unprotected, succumbed to the virus when they would eventually catch it. My cousin being one of those people he inspired. I’ll never forgive him for such a selfish and globally devastating act.

It’s amazing how many “chances” a celebrity gets after having one serious personal issue after another. The average person doesn’t get so many passes. This one gets special compensation because he plays the guitar well. Even so, we all have to face our demons sooner or later. Better to keep them to a minimum.
what sad news? so hes had some ups and downs, just like every body else. clapton is one of the best guitarist in the world and his music will live on for years. ive seen clapton 5 times and is one of my favorite guitarists.

The example of a 'blues band' at 3:33 haha. He was listening to the early Chicago electric blues players, not some skinny tie Brit pop-blues outfit! Also, learning blues "chords" is pretty off the mark. I IV V is easily grasped by nearly anyone past the novice level. What he learned was blues melodic vocabulary, namely that which is played as single line "licks" using the minor pentatonic and blues scales. But your intentions are probably good.
Saw him in Toronto in 2003. Ok performance, but you could tell something was lacking. But Billy Preston's performance made it worth the price of admission. Unfortunately, he passed on just few years later. RIP, Billy.

It would appear Eric is suffering from "tinnitus". I too suffer from this. It is a condition brought about from loud noises. In my case I was a drummer for 15 years.

It was around 1962, maybe a litle earlier, can't remember, I was sitting in a cafe in Kingston Upon Thames with my sister and Cousin. They kept looking over to the table opposite and chatting. I asked what they were chatting about and who it was they kept looking at "Eic Clapton" was the answer. "Who ?" I asked. They then explained he was a budding musician and was making a name for himself. Never heard of him ! I was 14 approx.

I think some youngsters are very introverted and may have few friends. They turn to music and spend hours a day practicing isolated. Peter Townshend said learning the guitar made him accepted and popular. The Beatles thought it would help them meet girls.
They transform from geeks to "gods." That's a big emotional range.
