The man is 73 years old and he can turn a 0.065 light and walk away from a massive explosion. I'm 12 years younger and consider it a win to simply make it through the day...
Two words: Fernando Alonso.
@@alexandershaw2378 you can count, congratulations.

John Force Racing is responsible for many of the reasons that this sport is as safe as it is today. It's no accident that he walked away from this explosion. He is a national treasure.
Hes an asshole. But his contribution to the sport of drag racing cannot be overstated.
Spot on !
He became a real advocate after the death of Eric Medlen.
Always great to see people walk away from things like this. Any thoughts on the cause?
expect for big daddy don garlits
Incredible that anyone can go thru that, keep composure, then get up and walk away. So glad he is okay.
So much force from the detonation that it lifted the front tires slightly off the track.
Glad he’s ok. 🏁🇺🇸💪🏼
How much of that chassis lift was caused by the vacuum created between the body and the car?
The body acted like a parachute when it blew lifting up the front end till the hold down pin broke.
The last second of this video is amazing!! Parts flying off of the engine get sucked into the intake during explosion. Everything happens instantly. Slow motion cameras make this sport so fun.
The tenacity of that man just an absolute Superstar. Hope you're okay buddy.
I am so glad John is ok and didn't suffer any injuries after an explosion like that.
Wow as long as he’s ok he will be back 73 year old ledgen
Ya Maybe it is time to call it a career John. How many more lives do you have left?
What a ledgen
@@jasonspitzer1445 😂
When he said he’s been on fire from here to Australia...it’s there and back again !! Thank God to see your still on your feet 💯, pray everything else is all okay 🙏🏽❣️
Guaranteed he has the most miles of driving while on fire
@@billmadison2032 true.
John Force is the man 16 time world champion no one will ever pass that.John Force is the art of drag racing.💯👌🏾
16 time US Champion, the world doesn’t compete in this or the MLB or NFL. It’s not world champions.
@@bluflaam777 crazy how people treat celebs and sports people like gods. Y’all have lost your minds.
@@MrSlingblade69 I'm the first one to say exactly what you're saying; that people praise celebrities like they're the 2nd coming and fawn and fawn.
Having said that, John Force is simply an inspiration others. His energy and passion is admirable. There's no shame in complimenting or admiring someone else's achievements.
I cant believe John is still racing after this many years and lord knows how many explosions 😲😲😲
John Force is definitely the king of drag racing.🇺🇸👍
John and Big Daddy!
Maybe funny cars
Naw....Don Prudhomme is
@@kendallevans4079 Stop it, you just want to be a contrarian.
@@davidr7872 No I don't. I grew up with 70's drag racing. The Snake was king and he didn't do 1% of the media kowtowing stooge John Force does. Force is more a celebrity, while Snake was a racer.
Excellent skills in keeping the car straight after an explosion like that! Glad he’s okay!
Kudos to the safety innovations in NHRA over the years to allow a driver to walk away from something like this and the fans to also be safe...BRAVO NHRA!!
A big part of that are super-strength straps that keeps all that potential shrapnel together once it blows.
Got to be a proud papa today...even though his day ended this way. Glad he's ok.
That slow motion made my jaw drop. Just seeing the chassis under that much pressure is intense. Glad John is ok. Also glad John has helped make this sport safer over the years.
Praise God for the absolute safety that goes into these cars!🙏💪👊
John Force is a FORCE in drag racing world
Original thought.
I love that guy but he dampened that love when he embraced a Bow Tie.
Proof age means nothing, a FORCE to be reckoned with at 73 .
I see what you did there.
Good thing he has AAA. Seriously, glad he's okay and could walk away from that. Great control by Mr. Force.
Testament to the engineering that the man survived and that the chutes still deployed.
I love the safety aspect that when the body came off it deployed the chutes as well......awesome job by the NHRA
Awesome slow motion video…..
I was right next to the fence when it blew off, the shockwave was crazy!
Dude no way ! I was sitting right next to you , it was pretty rad
I remember when me and family lived in Hollywood Fl. My dad use to work pits for Don Garlits, and as a 4 year old in the late 80's use to love watching them do tuning runs. One of my oldest memories was watching one of the top fuel cars blow up in what seem a million pieces, the driver was ejected from the force. Now in 2020's I watch similar accidents, and so much safer for the drivers, and even the spectators. I know Force has had hand in making a lot of industry changes, that makes me happy to know.
Glad He’s Ok. , Thanks To GOD. !
Pulls the shoots and keeps it straight what a legend
Was any of that automatic when the body came off? If not, JF has insane lightning-fast skills.
@@AndyFromBeaverton They automatically deploy when the burts panel pops, its a safety device that's on all fuel cars, also they have a sensor that will automatically deploy them at a certain place past the finish line incase the driver is unconscious for some reason
They are attached to the chassis but only hanging on the body. When the body blows away they have no choice but to open. As a matter of fact in the slow motion you can see the body blow off with the chutes attached. As it gets to the end of the lines, they deatch and open.
*chutes.
I felt the concussion from the stands, glad he's okay!
Keeping 11,000 horsepower contained in an engine is like keeping TNT contained in an hand-grenade. Once you pull the pin, all bets are off. Force is the real deal... certainly a force to be reckoned with.
Glad John's ok. And he still had a better reaction time. :)
John Force, the KING of FIREBALLS and always walks away. Love John Force!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see,John walked away. Detroit Loves you guys!! G
The flex to the car after the detonation is incredible
Karma will catch up
That engine blew up super big time. If it didn't have the tie downs - pieces would still be traveling outward. What a explosion & glad he walks away. Amazing.
You are welcome.
I am sure that many years ago John Force was instrumental in developing the mechanism to blow the body off of the funny car so the driver isn’t caught in the fireball under the body. The body is supposed to blow off just the way it did.
Wow!!!
He's ok... that's fine!
Tanks God to save our legend 😇
Betcha he felt a sudden breeze once the body was gone haha (glad he's alright)
John didn't win, but he walked away from a catastrophic explosion. Testament to the safety features built into that rocket
@Old Goat I remember that day in 2007,I believe it was at Gainesville Florida
@Old Goat it's unfortunate but sometimes it takes a death in any sport to improve on the safety status quo.
Man sometimes it seems more like nitroglycerin instead of nitromethane! 💥💨 I'm glad John is okay!
Glad your safe Mr. Force. Peace, Wheelchair John in Idaho.
I worked for The Force Family ever so briefly. That video reminds me of what happened to myself my last day as a federally contracted firefighter in Indonesia. One second I am hoseing a cars engine down that was on fire. The next few moments were terrorifying.
Everything under the hood blew up in my face!
Very cool slow motion shots.
The thing I like the most about drag racing is that it's based on two absolute truths, Time and Distance, .. the thing I love the most about drag racing is things like this, .. wow that sucker went bang big-time, .. just another, by no means a last, (magnificent) sacrifice to the God of Speed.
Wow!! Even though he has had numerous explosions over the years, it has still just got to be dang near heart stopping to be in the middle of a fireball like that. John. You are my age boy. We both survived polio! We are too old for this sh!t!!
Even so, John had the best reaction time and drove it to a safe stop.
....John had polio ?
He walked away.. but I bet he didn't walk away with clean shorts. Some things you just never get used to.
@@johnd5398 😂😂
Hooray to safety , The Goat will ride again , nice job Cruz
Holy crap ! That was insane. I'm glad he's alright.
Everybody goin kablooey this weekend.glad they're all ok 👍
Full throttle and kaboom. What a fright Spectacular way to finish the run and thankfully John's OK.
GOD I PRAY HE'S OKAY 🙏🙌🙏I know he was standing under his own power, I wish they would have let him speak if he able after having fire and smoke surrounding him whole front... LORD only knows how much smoke went into his lungs!!! PLEASE GIVE AN UPDATE ON JOHN BECAUSE HE IS NHRA ROYALTY AND A LEGEND 💞🤗💞🌟🌟🌟🙏🙏🙏
Slow down…… a couple of Advils and he’s fine.
He's fine. Only his bank account suffered serious injury!
Those drivers wear helmets with their own air supply for that very reason.
I had a Snapper two-cycle snow blower do that one quiet, snowy Sunday morning. Shrapnel flew everywhere and the neighborhood dogs all started barking.
Looks like she’s runnin’ a little rich.
Not a John Force fan, but respect to him for immediate pulling over as close to the wall as he could to keep the lane clean.
Well except for the body he left in the other lane…. But I guess he can get a pass on that.
@@barryallen6293
And drivers!
@@DavidJohnson-hg1mz You can see the body fold in half in the air, but lands and looks like it's ready to use again.
edit: Just went frame by frame and you can see the chute open vertically following the body. Great safety feature.
@@barryallen6293 I think there are a few Huge Balls involved with John as well. LOL
Love The Force Family. , GOD. Bless Them. !
John going with his hair on fire, literally. The guy is something special.
I remember back in the 80's when John Force exploding into flames was a fairly regular occurrence. It was never "if" John Force would explode into flames, it was "when".
I remember Geri g his autograph in the 80’s when my dad took me to the gator nationals. He’d just sit there in his dirty fire suit all day and sign autographs. Fast forward to the inaugural race in charlotte and there he is signing autographs. This time I was with my 8yr old. Such an amazing driver to this day.
He's always so animated when he survives situations and that's what makes him a constant winner. He just doesn't let stuff get to him. Good man
And this... considering the engine in his race car blew up right in his face!
There will never be another one like him
In another era it was Don Garlits.
Thanks to the safety features of these cars he survived and is ok and ready to race another day.
the body shell survived remarkably intact save for the fall damage…
"Have a hard day dear?"
"Nah - just another day at the office."
The Man is a BADASS! Much Respect!
Just another day at the office for John, your the man!!!
Thankful John Force was OK. It was scary to see such a fiery force to blow the body off the car. Thankful for all the safety measures NHRA requires.
The explosion broke the body loose. The wind ripped it off. Let's keep the drama to a minimum.
Great slowmo footage.
Amazing he was not burned, they must have a great onboard fire suppression system ! He is unbelieveable !
Kablooey! John has been on fire more than anyone. Glad to see he is OK. 👍
.06 reaction time. Still on top of it
After watching the replay zoomed in and in slow motion, it looked like a cylinder was out on the left bank (at 2:41) and immediately before the explosion, another cylinder went out on the right bank (at 2:43). The engine was definitely not happy. So glad the "Champ" is OK.
Force is my hero !!!! No one better in my book !!!!!
I use a 6 foot torch to cut steel scrap to go into the furnace to melt and pour into molds. I understand a bit about safety equipment. These people have some of the best there is, thankfully 😇
Just goes to show how good the safety equipment is, that's one hell of a force and he still gets out. Thanks for sharing, great footage.
Blew the body off just another day for John Force .
WOW what an explosion. Just as long "brute goat" is okay. He'll be back in 2023. Go JFR!
That is great camera shots.
The Champ KABOOMS it BIG TIME..JEEESCH
Wow that was quick!!
The camera work is fantastic
Go big or go boom! 💥Can't say he didn't use it all. Glad he's OK.
WOW!!!!
JOHN FORCE, 73 year's Young.
Amazing ✌️🙏
Good weekend John?
My fu**in' car blew up again.
Man, if I had a nickel for every time I've heard you say that.
I love the time slip you shown wish they would do that on t.v.people realize how fast they are but when you see the 60 ft time really puts a exclamation point on it.a dead stop to 60 ft in .8 crazy
As long as he is OK. There's always the next race. Scary as hell to watch.
May the Force be with John !! 👍👍👍👍🍺
Thank goodness for the people who invent their safety suits. That was a big explosion and it was probably over before he knew it.
Love the slo-mo at the end.
When I was young they were racing to 1320, and maybe hitting the 330s. Crazy they do it 300+ ft sooner now.
When your engine blowing up is less violent than when it’s running 😂.
It’s a 3 second explosion every time they go down the track.
Terrible time Glad you are OK
God Bless
I met John force in 2010 in the pits in Phoenix. He just a cool regular guy.
That was absolutely mind-boggling, at 73 years old that he can walk away from that was incredible he is definitely the 🐐 GOAT
The greatest. This crazy senior citizen can run competitively until mid 80s😂😂👍👏👏🍻
John anit going to quit till he's damn good and ready...
I don't think he's ready yet...
Maybe when a grandchild is ready to take his place.
This thing blows up in his face, flames and parts everywhere and all and he has the presence of mind to KEEP DRIVING the car.
w0w.....now THAT was a BLOW UP!!!
Very happy that nobody was seriously injured, other than Johns long johns, that is!!
Force’s car blows apart. He still ran 6.49 in the quarter. Even his slow is fast to the rest of us.
1:28 ... the stats are pretty amazing in modern day drag racing. Just looking at Cruz' numbers, It takes less time to go from the 660ft mark to the 1000ft mark compared to the first 60 feet. I don't think I can blink that fast :)
I dragrace personally and not like them but its still dangerous, anyways seeing the body fly off in one pice untill it hit the track makes it a whole lot easy to clean up. John Force is one of the more famous racers in this sport with so may years in exprice with it. It just it awsome how this is one of the leaders in this sport show that it can happen at any moment.
Legend!
Oh my goodness impressive safety equipment at work saving another life.
*The Man The Mith The Legend*
Bite your tongue?
100% correct & true.
AIN'T NO MYTH ABOUT Him 🤗🤗🤗
He didn’t even have to pull the chutes, it looked like the body pulled them out for him! Talk about maximum pucker factor!
