The Unfinished & Abandoned CEMENTLAND Amusement Park

  • The Cementland amusement park was the brainchild of sculptor Bob Cassilly, and was created on the former site of an abandoned 54-acre cement factory. Cassilly used repurposed machinery and materials to create an amusement park-like art exhibit that people could explore and enjoy. Unfortunately Cassilly was killed on the Cementland property during construction and the park was never finished. Join us as we show you what could have been of this defuncat and incomplete park.

"How would you turn this into an amusement park...and do it safely?"...you need to see the City Museum in St. Louis, take a good look around. Many of the elements there can be seen taking shape at Cementland. Cemetland was to be much the same thing on a much grander scale. (As for the City Museum and by the City Museum, structural engineers inspect it on a regular basis to ensure safety. Mr. Cassilly was very concerned with safety as well as art, architectural and industrial reuse, and the museum continues in that tradition.)

Another fascinating achievement (by you)! A lot of mystery still surrounds this place -- not only with the (alleged) murder of Bob Cassilly, but the fact that a fire in 2014 was determined to be arson. There was another fire in 2016 which was most likely arson as well, since there was nothing flammable in the area where the fire occurred (in your video at 12:46) -- yet an off-duty police officer heard an explosion coming from the structure the same night. And the expensive artwork that had been kept in this location was suddenly missing (according to an interview with Mr Cassilly's widow in the Riverfront Times). Too bad Mr Cassilly's vision never materialized -- this would have been a very good example of "re-purposing material". Thanks Lord for another awesome adventure!

Awesome video! That cement block is actually a hollow core precast floor plank. If it fell like that, due to deteriorating walls, it should be in rubble. Even picking those panels up in the wrong spot can make them “shatter.” I erect steel and precast for a living, so it was really cool to see the steel, concrete and precast in this setting. Would have been a unique place to visit, if it had the chance to open. I haven’t researched the guy yet, but judging from all the concrete used alone (cement land, I know) he must have owed someone a lot of money. Therefore, an unfortunate accident. Sorry for the long post, but this was a really cool video. I just subscribed from the cop car video. Stay safe!

If he hadn't been killed it would have been, amazing to see what he ended up with there. The standing ring at 3:00 looked like the Stargate. The castle was his crowning achievement before his death and the area around it was the closest to his theme park idea. Loved the suspension bridge and it least if it broke you had a nice soft swamp landing. I can't help wondering if this guy was related to the man that built the concrete water park I Explored a few years back? Lol "instant death holes" I may borrow that phrase in the future Cole. There was an official medical examiner report that proved so. There was also never an official investigation of his death, nor was there any damage on the bulldozer whatsoever. Denying the truth of his murder is extremely detrimental to his legacy and surviving family, of which were the people who had pushed for the investigation to open in the first place. When it comes to the creator of the City Museum, an attraction that brings in millions of income annually, possibly reconsider positioning the claims of those who worked with him over his family. Bob Cassilly was proven to be murdered. Please reassess your position and delete your comment.
