I came to this video after hearing you mention it in your most recent shallowing video. Through you are basically saying the same thing in both videos regarding the downswing, it was SOOO much clearer to me in the swallowing video due to the reseting technology and isolating of individual body parts. Just wanted to reiterate how awesome I think that type of explanation is.
Great video. I'm impressed by how consistent you guys keep your instructions across your videos. I've watched many and I don't see contradictions, and that allows me as a viewer to start honing in on the key concepts rather than adding more noise.
Finally. I looked in mirror and noticed I am wrenching forward toward targetline in transition. Address my butt was back and shins fairly vertical. I turn back and lead shin angles forward. Then transition my trail shin now angles forward. Trouble is, that has moved my pelvis forward a few inches! Proper setup with hips over ankles and shins angled forward has eliminated this wrenching forward…early extension. Thanks again!
Little late to this. I found your "blender" drill in this video after feeling like something in my sequence was off. "No way it's that simple," I thought. "No way I just throw my arms straight down like that and the ball goes anywhere." This drill finally got through my thick skull and it all makes sense...and the range was proof it works. Thanks for the great content and restoring my sanity
These 4 drills are absolutely amazing. Especially the blender drill, as this one is the only drill I have found that forces me to rotate, or else I won't hit the ball. It has almost eliminated my block right or hooks left due to the arms overtaking my body. Just brilliant guys, just brilliant 😊

Holy Shit. I’ve NEVER heard anyone explain the impact position this way (having the takeaway of hands in front of right pocket back to that position on the downswing blended with the body pivot). That is SO simple. This makes these drills very exciting. As someone who needs more rotation, my mind is kind of blown.
10:30 Guys, every time I watch your videos, I come away with some other kind of eureka moment. This is huge and I've never noticed this-- I never seen anyone mention this in any kind of instruction video or in person. Thank you.

Great video as always. One question, does the 41 inches away from wall apply to all clubs? Or is this a 7 iron situation? And is it the same for tall golfers and short golfers alike? I guess that was 2 questions. Thanks for the video, you’re my favorite online golf content.
Thank you, Mike and Shaun. What fantastic tuition. I have this on repeat and saved. I have learnt so much from this, especially the downswing and release. I wish that I knew this before!!! Greetings from Australia and wishing you both a Merry Christmas.
Does that 41 inches of clubhead depth change depending on the length of club? I've been practicing it with a 7 iron but wondering whether it should be different for drivers and wedges. It's a great drill by the way, turns out I'd been picking the club up way outside the wall then smashing through it during transition. My 'feel' for now is ripping the club inside on the takeaway and crossing the line at the top, but that puts me on the recommended plane.
It’ll change slightly with different clubs but we find that getting really good at this distance teaches you the shape of the swing which is easy to transfer to the other clubs once learned.
Can’t thank you guys enough for your content. This video really cleared up years of confusion, especially the release happening on the trail side of the body.
Number 3 is the money shot - completely transformed my swing. That little impact position and doing a rewind was a light bulb moment - very clever guys 👍
Love you guys - you are the golf ninjas of online instruction. I hope I'm not imposing but I looked up foamnasium wedge on Amazon and there's.... a lot of sizes and shapes. I'm guessing the one you use is about 3 feet long and one foot at the base? Any help on what specifically to buy on Amazon would be super helpful. Thanks!
Thanks gentlemen, a complete practice package for the winter months. In explaining the four elements, I didn’t hear any reference to ‘recentering’. Should that be a conscious consideration in the practice movements that you set out?

I guess even these guys can't necessarily make one video with all the great stuff it. Though they come DARN CLOSE so often. Huge AMG fan R
I really have a stall in my body rotation. From where I was bringing my hands, I have to stall and stand up a little. Only thing I can do from there is flip. I have worked on early extension drills throughout my 12 years of playing and seemed to play better when I forget about it. Well… when you move your arms and hands like I do, and force yourself to “keep that butt on the wall” as every coach I’ve ever had has said, you’re lucky to even make contact with the ball. This is the problem with the 2d swing video swing plane swing analysis. It’s just not looking at what matters. You guys are the best!
This is extremely helpful, especially the downswing explanation. Thank you gentlemen! Questions: on the backswing with the 41” - is that max depth true for all golfers despite height and arm length (let’s say a junior)? And is it advisable to aim for the max even if you’re tendency is to be less? Thanks!
Enjoying watching the video all the time. Thank you so much. I have a question. Re off-season practice No2 back swing, when using driver, what is an ideal distance? Should still use 5 wood to measure the distance?
Hey guys, thank you very much for your great video content. As a senior golfer with above average flexibility, I have found your # 4 drill to be almost impossible to achieve. Do you happen to have other drills more suited for your older viewing golfers? Thanks very much.
Excellent content as always. Would love to hear more about release portion though. Do you have any other videos that elaborate on this? Esp with regards to the hands/club staying on the trail side through impact and when it actually crosses the midline?
Big fan of your videos! I'm working on this wall drill and, as you said, I feel like I'm going to fall forward and most of my weight feels like it's on the balls of my feet instead of centered. My lower back muscles are also firing and telling me this isn't right. I'm using a gap wedge. My questions are: Will all these feels eventually be replaced with comfortable feels if I stick with it? Will my weight eventually re-center on my feet, or is the weight supposed to be on the balls of my feet? Should I use a longer club to stand more upright? Thanks in advance for the clarification.
That is probably the best release drill/tip/explanation I have ever heard and just had a massive ding go off in my brain. As a lefty with a massive release problem this has really helped thanks guys!
I must sound like a broken record, but you guys have made even practicing golf fun again. Question regarding the backswing, I lay the club off slightly in the backswing, after watching this video, I started making some swings with that Nike Swoosh idea. The problem is let’s just say my physical flexibility has been ignored lately 🫤and I am having trouble getting the club to point towards the target without over swinging the arms past my turn. Am I getting a concept wrong or is it the flexibility issue causing the problem? On another note, those videos on lag and the Rory and Adam Scott swings have totally improved my contact, swing speed, and just overall look. Sometimes I will struggle to get into a good delivery position. If I am releasing my lag properly and have a proper arm swing I am gathering it is a pivot issue causing the problem? Thanks again gentlemen. Carry on!
We love broken records 😊 Not everyone will have the swing length to complete the swoosh, not a problem at all. So if your pivot isn't quite getting you there, you'll still be making the same underlying move just not as much. A pivot issue could very well be the cause to your last question👍
@@AthleticMotionGolfthank you! Love the content! you just blew my mind on arms not dragging across body and they just lower the club been doing it wrong for 30 years 😂
This is amazing stuff. You guys explain difficult concepts in such an easy way. On the backswing my club head at left arm parallel would definitely hit the wall. But I do get that swoosh move up to the top. Is fixing that generally just less forearm rotation?
Regarding the blender drill…does that apply to the driver as well? I ask because the ball is further out therefore impact is different. Love the drill for irons but hope there is one for the driver.
Great vid, as always. I’ve been working on the arms down a and rotate piece. I took it to the course today and got a lot of fat shots. I’m assuming it‘a because of me not pushing up from my left leg to pull the club through impact I.e, I probably too low at the point of impact. Does that logic make sense? Or is it a simple case of timing, and I just need to be patient for the move to be ‘grooved’ so to speak? I want to get these moves as feel like it will be an unlocking of my swing moment, and help get me to sub 10hcp (11.3 at present). I’ve identified approach play as my biggest weakness compared to 10hcap (using shotscope) last year.
Gentlemen, when looking at your lpga pro, she had her right arm tighter to her body at the top. I see teachers instruct differently on this aspect. Would you prefer the elbow tighter to the body or more away? The goal should be to have the upper arm parallel to the ground, correct?
(1) Is the ~ 41" affected by height of the golfer? (2) should the ~41" wall drill be combined with the first wall setup drill, i.e. should there still only be a club head distance between the wall and the golfer's heels? Shaun's heels look to be farther than a club head from the wall when performing the ~41" wall drill, but the Morikowa diagram looks closer to a club head.
with what club do tour pros get to 41" depth? If all clubs are you suggesting that the shorter clubs need to hit a wall further behind the player due to the shorter shaft and the driver???? Thats 45" to start with................please explain
11:08 is one of the most interesting comments I've ever heard on the golf swing. Where Mike says..."if that camera were moving". That one comment encapsulates 2d/3d reality. 2d isn't bad, as long as we understand WHAT it is telling us, and what it isn't. 3d Gears stuff is so cool, even in those videos where Mike digs deep, and my brain begins to hurt. 😉 Great stuff Gentlemen. Thank you as always! R PS. Mike likes to say Shaun will send a check if something doesn't work. 🙂 Well, so far no check necessary here. But if there is such a need in the future, I'd appreciate it if Shaun were able to use Venmo. 😂 R
If the trail arm only moves down at the elbow in the downswing and the body brings the club to the ball, is the trail arm also just moving up in the takeaway and the body rotating backwards?
Hi Guys, great drill, 2 questions , back swing drill how far are the feet from the wall ? shaun looks like about one shoe distance , Down swing drill what is the plane line angle on your prop ? I understand this changes a couple degree due to players heights but the ballpark angle is fine, enjoy the holidays if your got some time off look forward to more content next year
We’ve never used foot distance from the wall, instead we like ~41” as better guide. Plane angle is 6i IIRC. No time off, but we do have a BUNCH of new content on the way 😊. We hope you and the family have a very merry Christmas!
Is the wall drill supposed to be a calf ankle and leg workout? I’ve never felt this much tension in my legs. Perhaps because I haven’t been utilizing these muscles correctly.
Hi guys, great stuff. However, for (1), the distance from the wall measured by one club head seems to not be applicable universally. At least for me with 6.4 height, if I do this properly and then let the club fall from being held at a horizontal position away from body by just bending the hips to find the proper distance to the ball (and then bending the knees slightly), I feel my center of weight to be massively shifted towards the toes, really too much to feel to be in a dynamic position for a good swing. The clubs are fitted to my height properly b.t.w.. So, how strict is this measurement to the wall or is there any other way to find the proper distance regardless of height and individual proportion?
The first drill is crucial. I hope people won't overlook it. I've been doing it for a couple of years now, and it's really helped me improve my golf swing. The whole video is great, obviously... But don't forget start at the beginning. Build a solid grip, do the first drill, and you're giving yourself a chance to make a good swing. Neglect those things, and you're kinda wasting your time trying to jump ahead.
I am an avid lifter, so I have bigger legs and a rear end. When I start this drill, my butt is touching the wall while standing vertically one club head length away. Should I do two gold head lengths, then?
So I am a little confused. The set up sounds OK but from there it gets confusin. On the T/A the hands work up with the pressure shift. So your description and the videos don't match. Say I have a short iron and I am thinking 41" per your instructions for where the clubhead should be at lead arm parallel. To me that makes the swing very flat when I think it should be more upright. Care to explain?
Thanks for the instruction. For the backswing drill, you can rest the club head on the wall in two ways 1) by changing the angle of the shaft inside/outside of the ball, or 2) by moving the lead arm away from/closer to the wall. How do I ensure I am doing this properly?
Very good advice, but, it's not that everybody up north can't play or practice off season, there is now access to golf simulation and state of the art feedback, e. g. Your videos.
Not sure how or why but OMG does it ever work! The hands do not move across the body and the talk about the trail side of body. I've watched a million golf videos and have never saw this one before. Thanks

is the angle of the wedge on the blender drill at 45 degrees?

hello what are the dimensions and angle of the cushion to 8.06?
hey Mike, would like one of your wedge(plane) I assume for 7 iron, didnt see on your website, can you direct me how to get one thanks
Sorry guys can I ask a question if I lower trail arm as in the video would this be considered casting the club or is casting a miss conception?
If the arm stays up, and you straighten it, that’s a cast. If it lowers like you see all the guys in TV do, you’ll be in good company 🤓
Great video. Where can I purchase the swing plane foam trainer?
Search amazon for “foamnasium wedge”👍
11:08 is one of the most interesting comments I've ever heard on the golf swing.
Where Mike says..."if that camera were moving".
That one comment encapsulates 2d/3d reality. 2d isn't bad, as long as we understand WHAT it is telling us, and what it isn't.
3d Gears stuff is so cool, even in those videos where Mike digs deep, and my brain begins to hurt. 😉
Great stuff Gentlemen. Thank you as always!

PS. Mike likes to say Shaun will send a check if something doesn't work. 🙂 Well, so far no check necessary here. But if there is such a need in the future, I'd appreciate it if Shaun were able to use Venmo. 😂

Lol Shaun uses Nomo 😜
@@AthleticMotionGolf as long as it's not short for..... NO-MOtion.... given the channel name.... I'm good with that. 😉
Other good one
If the trail arm only moves down at the elbow in the downswing and the body brings the club to the ball, is the trail arm also just moving up in the takeaway and the body rotating backwards?
Pretty much👊
What is the angle of that foam teaching aid. 60 degree maybe
7 iron lie angle
Thanks Guys, the 41inches and the wall gives me a start and the wall gives me a finish, warm Regards
Is the wall drill supposed to be a calf ankle and leg workout? I’ve never felt this much tension in my legs. Perhaps because I haven’t been utilizing these muscles correctly.
Not uncommon when those tendons and muscles are getting woken up 🙂
58 yrs old and almost only upper body swing. 15 handicap. I tend to hit with my right hand ‘mainly. Any advice?
Where can I get that great wedge!
So, how strict is this measurement to the wall or is there any other way to find the proper distance regardless of height and individual proportion?
still lovin that two club drill, if my health improves i want to visit and geta checkup.
Take care of yourself, you’re welcome back anytime
Is there a way to practice foot width for irons vs driver? Seems nebulous in my experience.
If they don’t listen to us I hope they listen to you 👊🤓
@@AthleticMotionGolf Let's both hope that they listen to you 😉
I am an avid lifter, so I have bigger legs and a rear end. When I start this drill, my butt is touching the wall while standing vertically one club head length away. Should I do two gold head lengths, then?
If the weather is not suitable for golf move to Queensland Australia. Fantastic one day perfect the next. Golf every day.
But it’s such a long drive from the states 😜

How do I ensure I am doing this properly?
at step two, 41 inches from the wall, are you using a particular iron in this drill?
Everything is always a 7 iron in our videos unless we reference another club👍
Very good advice, but, it's not that everybody up north can't play or practice off season, there is now access to golf simulation and state of the art feedback, e. g. Your videos.
Not sure how or why but OMG does it ever work! The hands do not move across the body and the talk about the trail side of body. I've watched a million golf videos and have never saw this one before. Thanks
Your downswing drill is all arms first. I thought the hips started the downswing?
You might want to watch again what’s being said and done 😉
Obviously quality over quantity but from your experience, how long does it take to reprogram your swing with these drills?
