Welcome to another Half-Life 20th anniversary tribute video? Is it really that time again? Like GoldSrc Forever before this, there were many, many mods I wished to include but could not due to time constraints, technical problems, and sometimes both! Also note that this tribute only accounts for the playable part of Source's history. I couldn't begin to even scrape the surface of the engine's long history fostering a whole generation of machinima and digital art, from GMod comics and Source SDK choreography to full Source Filmmaker animation productions. Special thanks to everyone who's developed and modded for Source, those who took it upon themselves to fix, maintain. and preserve said Source products, and of course everyone who continues to play Source to this day. And finally, here's your unrelated secret video that you may have already seen: ruclips.net/video/pOQilGqj0MY/видео.html

I find it incredibly funny and tragic that Valve only worked on episode 3 for 6 months and then quit to make Left 4 Dead. Even the devs in the documentary said that this was dumb and that they should have gone back to it
Got to be honest; L4D was not worth downing tools on Episode 3. Everyone gave up on it after a year. You have to wonder what the timeline would look like if they shelved L4D and released Ep3.
Your forgotten CS Zombie Extermination mod only needed to be showcased in the video... Not many people talk about it but it's fun to hop in for a game or two.
Thanks to all the beautiful people who made mods for fun out of their spare time. I have couple thousand hours on sourcemods, and more on those who became commercial licenses, most of it being amazing.
The legacy HL2 leaves us are legendary, and a ton. It opens a gateway to a previously unimagined massive community collaboration in the engine and even inspires a whole new engine to branch from it. All forms of creativity exists within the gaming culture are all present here, mods, a whole new game, music, SFMs, writeups, you name it. It has been amazing to be part of the history despite me being a small contribution to a gigantic legacy.
1:36 NeoTokyo will forever be one of my favorite multiplayer total conversion mods to exist, that and Blacklight Retribution were just amazing games to ever come out on Steam
Oh my god. *I have barely scratched the surface of source mods.* Even including the all time greats like Hunt Down The Freeman and Watching Paint Dry! What a montage.
These are always better than they have any right to be. Good job. Looking forward to you potentially diving into the finer details of the new Half-Life 2 update and associated content.
Was happy to see Obsidian Conflict saved for last, of all the free source mods out there I think that one was always my favorite, and made me sad how it never really blew up the same way sven coop did, despite essentially being an HL2 equivalent of Sven, and even more sad when the steam pipe update broke it and left it in a mostly fragile state.
So much of my childhood is in Source mods and games that this video actually ended up making me cry. I have played and seen many, many of these over the years, have quite a few memories and friends tied to them and many other mods that didn't make the cut. Like Dystopia, Irongrip The Oppression, Empires, Offlimits and several more, some mods I was a tester for that never saw a public release sadly. But seeing Ballmen and Insect Infestation make the cut is a pleasant surprise, along with a absolute favorite of mine, Obsidian Conflict. Which is still being worked on despite the many roadblocks the team has encountered! A excellent tribute to 20 years of Source 1, ending stutter included.
Legendary universe created by Valve and underrated Marp who is a legend himself and last but not least the community which I am proud member of. I cant really express how much I admire Half-Life universe and all the work you put into Overwiki and RUclips (and more). Big ups mate, wholesome video. Still waiting for Half life 3 (eventually source 2 forever lol)! Did you know that MarphitimusBlackimus is the finest mind of source generation?
Hahaha thank you for managing to put Obsidian Conflict (3:03) into the video. We are doing our best to release the new version in Steam, but with our small team and how difficult life is, it is getting harder to do so (and now, we have to take care of the changes this new HL2 update has done). Still, we promise we will not give up until it is out! 💪
Nah: as long as people keep using it (& given Source's truly amazing capabilities for such an old engine that's very likely) it'll _never_ truly die (even so though it'll still be around to be both remembered & enjoyed even if it ends up no longer being used someday).
Marph, I'm so glad that you made a video like this (thanks for it by the way: it's awesome!): as iconic as both GoldSrc & Half-Life are (not to mention all the other games & mods that came from them) Source also has its place in history, arguably moreso since a whole lot more is possible in it than GoldSrc & since it appears to have outlasted GoldSrc in the modding department (more-or-less at least). I also love the fact that you used a remix/different version of the theme in "GoldSrc Forever": such a theme is perfect for videos like this I'd say! (was hoping you would & you did, so thanks!) Happy 20th Birthday both Half-Life 2 & Source, & may you both continue to be awesome for many years to come! P.S. It also happens to be _my_ birthday today too! How coincidental that I happened to be born on the same day & month as the release date of such an incredible game & game engine! (which I can definitely both thank for my favorite game today, Garry's Mod, which of course was built off of HL2 & the Source Engine: if it weren't for either of them (moreso them being a success) Gmod wouldn't exist today!) P.P.S. Good job syncing several of the on-screen events to the music!

Definitely wasn't expecting SiN: Episodes to be included here (1:06), but I'm happy. It's far from perfect, but it's a grand ol' time overall; It's a shame they never made more episodes for it. Here's to another decade of great Source mods (and games)!
