While the HL3 momentum is definitely starting to warm up, this might still be just an artwork piece. I used to be a game concept art lead and it was extremely common for artists to just build their own 3D models and render them for use in paint-overs. Concept artists use a lot of tools and sources for their work, especially when making production art. Still, there's the possiblilty they're using something from an upcoming title but my gut feeling is just built for render and paintover to match the existing design with higher fidelity.

The artist is Dhabih Eng, the same fella that did the original promotional images for HL2 before release. Yeah, they are paint-overs. Completely 2D, with (I assume) lower-fidelity 3D reference material. I'd just chalk the differences in the gravity gun up to artistic liberties.

Okay, while you are absolutely right about that, legit, I would prefer Valve taking their time than milking everything and ruining their entire reputation to the ground. Part of it feels bittersweet. We dont have any reason to believe there will be good mod support or any of the tools that made half life 2 so profound. Who knows, maybe im wrong. But it doesnt seem like 2024 valve to include these things.

You have to use third party websites for a reliable server list. These servers have no visibility. Only some servers where you test skins before you buy them have people in them. Yeah, there's workshop support for these games, but there's no SDK for source 2. source 2 games have been lacking in mod support. Yes it exists, but if you're acting like Half-Life Alyx or CS2 mods are anywhere near the popularity or accessibility of Half-Life 1 & 2/CSS & CSGO mods, you're not being entirely objective.

Something I like about (SPOILER ALERT, IF YOU KEEP READING NOW IT'S YOUR OWN FAULT) how the old HL2:E2 ending being retconned, is that it throws the whole Half Life world into jeopardy. Why do I say this? Well, we already witnessed what the Half Life world looks like far in the future, Portal 2. We catch a glimpse of what it looks like underground, on the surface, and from the moon itself. But now that the timeline has changed with Alyx being taken by the GMan and Eli being resurrected, we have no clue what happens in the future this time around. For all we know, the moon could get blown up in the new timeline, which would indirectly get Chell killed in the far future. It's a crazy example I know, but you get the point I am trying to make.
Likewise though it feels as if they will take the expectations of epistle 3 and hints they've dropped and subvert them by having this change in the timeline cause things to play out differently
That could easily be the hi-poly model of the original gravity gun. In game design, you make a highly detailed model, then you make a low poly version and bake the details of the hi-poly onto the low poly so that it will run smoothly in real-time renderers.

You literally showed the screenshot where the artist said they PAINTED OVER the model in photoshop. Meaning it could have been any rough model, even the original gravity gun model as a base layer reference for the artwork where they painted in this additional detail.
The original artist said on twitter he had to remake the art and he used blender to make a grav gun (an other models) for that specific artpiece (then he handpainted some parts idk is his workflow)

The reason they recton the story of episode 2 was because how the writers backed themselves into a wall that time. There was no way to fix the story after that. So using Gman as a in-world way to fix a issue corrected this.
I do think hl3 is on the making, although I don't think is going to come out on the near future, HL alyx was a short game, but hl3 is expected to be longer, so it would be logical to take more time to develop, I know HL alyx came out 4 years ago approximately, so I would say that it likely take more than 3 years to be complete.
I really want HL3 to come out soon but at the same time i hope they take their time and polish and perfect it slowly. So i'm just going to wait patiently till it releases. 😀

I can tell where the gravity gun came from, if you look at the gmod workshop and some mods what improve the gravity/physics gun model. And most gmod mods do look like this. So maybe the artist just googled hd gravity gun and downloaded a model and used it. Or it could be the hl2 rtx gravity model but i haven´t played it so i don´t actually know, just some theories.

I can tell where the gravity gun came from, if you look at the gmod workshop and some mods what improve the gravity/physics gun model. And most gmod mods do look like this. So maybe the artist just googled hd gravity gun and downloaded a model and used it. Or it could be the hl2 rtx gravity model but i haven´t played it so i don´t actually know, just some theories.
