    Forgot to add the segment about taking a fight with no experience. Talked with PJ and a few other trainers on the subject. Basically if you're in good shape and can learn quickly then doing one month of hard training(twice daily) you can take an amateur fight(no elbows, no kicks to the head). Three months is plenty of time to train for a fight. Just tell your trainer that you intend to fight wherever you train and they'll work with you to make sure you're ready and set things up. It helps to train with a gym that has connections(most of them do). For example PJ is a commentator in the local Krabi fight scene and so he can get you fights easily. The competition is most fierce around Bangkok and the fights down south are "easier". There's always a Muay Thai fight going on in any large to medium sized city. In Krabi there was a fight every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Phuket has a fight almost every night of the week. So getting one isn't too hard. Met lots of people training for a fight, lots of first timers, it's a great goal and great motivation!

    I'm so happy I found this video on New Year's as I contemplate my life going forward. My mother, who is from Thailand died a few years back, and I never had the chance to take her on a trip with me to her country of birth.( I was born/raised in California, and still reside in USA) I've never recovered mentally from her sudden passing, and think a planned trip of a month or two, while training in Muay Thai would be a way I could honor her life, and the person I've become because of her. I can't believe it took me so long to try RUclips to find out how I'd go about doing this until I stumbled upon your video ! Thank you so much for doing this, it has answered my concerns with general costs,the type of gyms, how to go about doing it , and if a total beginner would be welcome to train with private instructor vs group setting. I wish you nothing but health, wealth, and general prosperity and happiness from 2024 on ......

    All really great advice in finding a quality gym and trainer for a combat sports enthusiast. Thanks so much, in covering Thailand- home of one of the greatest and oldest traditional combat sport. Plus, a great place to see awesome fighters and fights hosted by One Championship! 😮😊

    Nice video! I'm glad that you recommended the authentic/local type gyms over the popular (and generally overcrowded) commercial gyms. I myself did 1 month of training at a busy commercial gym and gained very little. I switched to a quiet, local gym and immediately made lots of progress. Online reviews can be misleading (the people have only ever tried 1 gym so have no point of reference) or perhaps they're written by people with very different goals for their training. Turn up in person and gauge from there.

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  Год назад +4

      100%. See it in person. You're right that the people at the big gyms generally only have that place at a point of reference. And they're not bad gyms. It's just that there's such a depth of experience at the smaller gyms, it's really unreal to get trained by these trainers with hundreds of fights. So for me it makes no sense to goto a big gym and have a western experience when you're in thailand and could have the authentic training with these incredibly knowledgeable fighters.

    Great video! If you just fly out and wing it, do you think you run the risk of not finding anywhere to stay? Do you think there is much difference between a "camp" and just turning up to a gym everyday?

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  11 месяцев назад +2

      Nope there are SO MANY places to stay you'll be able to find something for sure. I think for the most part that term "fight camp" is thrown around as a marketing term to get people signed up for a long gym contract. Just show up to training everyday, and let the trainers know you want to fight, they'll put you through the paces.

    Looks like great total body/mind workout. But, tell me why one would want to "fight".

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  Год назад +5

      You could really ask that about anything. Why thru hike. Why join the military. I think it just comes down to "I want to" in the end. But if I search for other reasons there's a lot of discipline, overcoming discomfort, overcoming fear, plus it's a fantastic workout and if you train for a fight that'll give you great motivation to keep training hard when you're tired.

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  2 месяца назад +1

      I was May through Sept. I loved rainy season. Rain cools things down, way less people around, not a big deal at all. It's very sporatic most of the time so it may rain hard for 15 mins but then it's done, air is clean, city is cool.

      @@QuadzillaHikes that sounds lovely, really appreciate the reply. I'm thinking of having Ao Nang as my base- as a beginner I think that unmatched level of individual attention at these smaller gyms would be really valuable. Am I right in thinking that logistically, I should just book my flights and then figure out gym + accommodation upon arrival? Would you say I should have no issues doing it this way? And is there any risk that these gyms would be at full capacity, or not something to worry about? If so, are there plenty of gyms around?
      ALSO- I've never trained a martial art before. I'd say I'm in alright shape, but cardio defs needs a bit of work. What sort of conditioning would you do before leaving, if I have about a month before I was to leave? Would you take a few classes of MT at home before leaving as well, or think no need?
      Sorry about the ramble and ty

My conditioning and weight are on point, But I have Zero experience on anything but weightlifting. I'm on a Plant Base Diet and I'm out of Los Angeles,CA. Do you think that I can stay there, train, food , hotel private lessons for a moth for $1000 USD or a bit more? Thank You.

    • @QuadzillaHikes
      @QuadzillaHikes  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think 1000 is doable, if you stayed in a hostel or such you'd save a lot more money. Plant based can be tricky in Thailand, I think it'd be hard to get enough proteins and calories, but up in Chiang Mai there was a pretty big vegan/vegetarian scene. Prices for that food is a bit more expensive than other thai food. I was spending about $1500/month without budgeting.
