I used the water-based Minwax true black and it came out with blue waves turning grey to black and looks great , I was using a grey slate trying to get the grey-blue look to match our walls and it wasn't working out, I never thought to use a black when trying to get a blue grey finish till I saw someone using true black and was upset about the blue that was coming out lol , light bulb flash hahaha...
Pro tip - you can cut the sponge brushes to make them fit in the can - that is so simple but I never thought to do it. Pre-stain is awesome but black stain seems to cover well. I would love to see you do some stains with household items or food items like Stave Ramsey's weird wood stain videos. Maybe try staining wood with tea, coffee, beet juice, etc. Just an idea. Good job guys.
I agree, cutting the sides off is a good idea! I have also cut the tip off before when I was working with a poly finish that hardened on, then it was “good as new” lol. You can do that a couple times before you reach the stick inside.
As a gentleman who also suffers from shaky hands due to broken bones over and over over time, would it be okay to ask about the older gentleman’s hands? I love woodwork but it’s sucks to deal with shaky hands
It’s an essential tremor that I was born with. I forget about it all of the time because I’m used to it. Sometimes it does make Woodworking tough. Good luck Woodworking and stay safe. Welcome to the Friday Workshop community.
Well you asked for it and we provided. Here's a review of the Minwax True Black stain. Is there another finish that you'd like us to review?

Awesome. Glad it worked for you.
"That **is** truly black" I never could have guessed 😂
Great video and I think it would be cool to see different stain reviews!
We might have to do a few. Our other stain video took off and is at almost 3k views.

Household item stain sounds like an amazing video. Our finishing videos tend to do well so hopefully this one takes off.

Great tip Hugh.
@@mcmathwoodworks I hate when my stick gets cut.
@McMath Woodworks - Hugh Mcmath I mean I hate it when I cut the stick.
Cut the sides off... How did I never think of this haha. You guys are great!
I know, right? How something so simple never came to my mind I will never know!!!

Nice job. Had to watch this twice.
Just don’t click the like button twice. Ha.
I agree, water based stuff is easier for someone like me.
Yeah us too. Water based stain is awesome.
