  • There's no doubt external monitors can be useful for filmmakers. Having the ability to check exposure and use tools like false colors on a larger display can help you get the perfect shot but on a mirrorless or compact camera, I have a problem with every monitor out today including the Atomos Ninja V and Hollyland Mars M1. They can't control the camera settings or touch to focus.

I agree with you, I think most of external monitors are made for manual focus systems tho, like red cinema cameras or cine canon cameras, at the same time, sony/Canon will also have to agree on new terms and conditions with ATOMOS so they are allowed to do this, if not, this is just illegal. Hopefully we will see that feature very soon

Thanks, I think camera manufactures should partner with monitor manufactures and just give it to us lol

I fully agree. I just don't think atomos gives a care about any of this stuff. I use a Ninja every day and the battery life is terrible, and it's as heavy as a brick. I don't know why they think they have to make the monitor so sturdy and well built. I'm holding $10,000 in my hand, do they think I'm going to be smashing it around? If you're filming in 60p and want to watch playback at 40% speed for conversion to 24 fps you can't. The closest you can get is 50% speed and you can't just tap a button to get this to happen. You have to screw around with a little slider on the screen to try to accurately slide it to 50%. I honestly do not believe anyone at atomos actually uses their own products on a regular basis. Then they released the successor to the Ninja V and it was basically a useless upgrade without any meaningful benefit. And they just released the Ninja phone, which doesn't record anything higher than 1080p. I used to respect atomos and my opinion on them has changed to where I pretty much think they're a joke.
