The auto manufacture would go bad to these cars today my opinion they would be a Hugh hit ! The more electronics, the more problems ! The simpler the better !
Willys
Here in Pennsylvania they made junkyards put up fences to block drivers from seeing the old cars, to “beautify the roads”. I loved seeing the old stuff. Was like passing a car show without all the glitter. Driving on the back roads, and seeing an old car, my Father in law would say what year it was and what options and motors could be had. Now finding an old car is rare. In the 80’s, I had one of the worst jobs. I was a crane operator at a scrapyard. A lot of muscle cars and classics came in and I had to put them in the crusher. We weren’t allowed to keep any of them. When I asked why they weren’t fixed up, I was told they were beyond repairing. But after watching Graveyard Cars on TV, were they restore cars, the ones I loaded were definitely repairable!
In California they put up high fences around junkyards so people don't steal!
Thanks for the trip through the junk yard. It sure brings back memories of my childhood when times were much simpler and more affordable
My Grandpa had a '62 long bed 3/4 ton unibody. Only 1 picture of this truck exists, taken in 1969 with my Brownie Hawkeye. I forget what the original engine was, but he put in a 534 from a Super Duty (somehow) along with the 5-speed and driveshaft. He also put in a "reinforced" 1-ton rear. He was a gifted machinist, and that truck was just a beast, man. It never twisted or bent the body even with all that torque.
The faux woody wagon was a Willys Jeep. There is a junkyard near me that has probably 2500 vehicles in it. I love to just explore it
That Jeep wagon is a Willys.
Some of the old crew cabs only had electric in the front doors the Back were crank 92-96 should be the same
Saludos 😊
That old wrecker looked like it was straight out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Wrong Turn movies lol
Good junkyard tour, Hank. I saw what might have been a '47 Ford 4 door. That would be my favorite. I had one when I was 18. The car and I were both the same age.
Enjoyed the junkyard search, Hank. Always interesting what you can see in one.
Yes, sir. I grew up doing junkyard searches in the 60's with my Dad. I love watching them on the RUclipss. Dad would occasionally find something for 50 bucks he could drive home, because he figured he could do some wrenching and hammering and make $100 on it. His only miscalculation was Corvairs in the late 60's. He took a hit on those two Spiders he bought in '68.
From 1961 to the middle of the 1963 model year Ford made that unibody truck you are speaking of in the video. IIRC that was only on the 2-wheel-drive trucks. 1964 had a solid front axle on the 2-wheel-drive trucks. 1965-1996 was Twin-I-Beam on the 1/2 ton pickups and it is still used today on the E-series cut-away and the 2-wheel-drive 3/4 and 1 ton Superduties. Great video!
61-63 unibody had zip for flex. Would love to find a big back window short box again. that tandum was a custom
i love junk yards. they are full of stories to tell each old vehicule has it own story.
that wagon you were looking at is a willys wagon. those were a very tough jeep like vehicule
I loved this video.
The Schramm tractor was primarily used for a air commpressor. 3 cylinders power the tractor and the other 3 cylinders make commpressed air for jack hammers and the like tools.
I believe that unibody Ford trucks were made from 61 to 63 I used to have a 62
Hey Hank. This yard is very nice an clean.... 👍😀😉 take care and god bless
Thank you we been doing a lot of cleaning up
That is a 73-79 Ford truck honey hole! Where is this junkyard located?
Near Chipley Fl
Schramm tractors built from 1950-1970s for navy. Built on IH frame half tractor, half compressor. Used for flight line maintenance as they pull a/c and carts behind. Unusual piece of equipment. Still used into late 70's onboard and navy air stations. Kind of rare, if you need an extra project fun to have. See them online maybe once a year.
If you have one of them it would be fun to have it in a parade with a big diesel horn and a whistle run off the compressor
The story is an urban legend. In Spanish, nova means the same as it does in English. You need to insert a space to get to no va, and evidently people didn't. The Nova sold very well in both Mexico and Venezuela.
Exactly, in Argentina it was called the 400 model, to this day there are many fans of this particular model
I just love Junk Yards in general
Me too
When I was young and single, I really enjoyed exploring junk yards! However, that was in the sixties, and I always had a project to two going on. Now, I've been buying new Ford pickups since 1986 through 2016. If you're looking for a great fit part, you can generally substitute similar parts. I would suggest looking at the XLT models, as the XL models are pretty much work trucks. extended cab, crew cab or regular cab window regulators should fit easily, along with the power door lock motors. The switches generally are more particular to the body/interior style. Generally, pre-1997 would generally be similar. If in doubt, take the plug too, and leave the wires long enough to splice in if needed. Some parts don't change unless needed...this isn't GM or Chrysler of old!
Great tour of the junk yard Hank enjoyed the nostalgia.
The Jeep wagon sitting there is called a WILLY'S
Hank that is a Willys wagon you were looking at they came in 4wd, 2wd and they made a panel version. Most I've seen have a Hurricane 6 cylinder engine, alot of people dropped in 289 Ford v8's in them or small block Chevys.
You can get the Willys Jeep wagon and Pickup in a Matchbox too.
1955 Willys Overland one of a beautiful run of woodies. Yes, not made of wood, but the class is either made of, or made to look like, wood
I have that exact Continental. 79 Collectors Series. Quite the car for the era. That one is actually in better shape than mine 😮
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with old junk cars. Automakers tends to share switches on multiple models, so you may need to check 1989-1993 Ford models such as Explorer, Tempo and Taurus, it appears they shared similar power windows switches to F-Series crew cab.
22:35... Willy's Overland
love this junkyard been there many times. i didnt know yall live a few miles from me. if you ever need a local for help let me know. would love to help get old machines running again.
You and Wily need that wrecker 😂😂😂
Thanks for another great video.
It was interesting and enjoyable.
Hank. How about getting a new switch for your truck???? Or is it too expensive. My experience with electrical items is any moisture that gets in them in the junk yard messes up the switch.
Think I would get a new one if possible.
Thanks for the tour of the junk yard. Was interesting.
You take care. Let’s us know how you come out on the switch.
Thanks.
The Iowa Farm Boy.
Man. nice my dad had a 62 unibody long bed when I was about ten years old, don't mess around with used window switches, just buy some new one's 😅 !
Schramm air compressor. Used for compressed air starting of aircraft. Schramm didn’t build their own motors but I don’t know whose motor it is. The Chrysler straight six (not the slant six) was supplied to some tractor manufacturers so possibly they supplied Schramm also.
They also used a lot of little 4-cylinder Detroit's too
Yeah the little Schramm air compressors are interesting they're almost sorta like a pony motor in a different kind of away only their compressors
Great video and nice vehicles. Thanks for sharing! 👍
That Woody wagon is an old Jeep Willys
Ford used the same cab from 1980 to 1996 for the F150’s. And up to ‘97 for the f250 and 350 so a lot of those cabs would have useable parts for your truck. Also, the medium duty trucks also used the same cab if you can find a those, F600, F700 etc…
Yes but the interior from 80-97 is different, mounts different and will not interchange. 80-86 will not fit 92-97, etc. Front clips are not interchangeable but cabs, doors and beds are pretty much a swap.
That's a willys Jeep wagon that's my favorite piece I love to have one
Love the junkyard walk sometimes I just go look for the fun
Thanks for the video....JJ... Jonjon....
That would be a Jeepster. The woodies you referred to were Ford wood bodied (Station wagons). Made from the model T,ModelA, 1930s,1940s up to the 1950.
jeepster is a open top type jeep.tjat is a Willy overland
Really liked the old jeep and the tractor with wooden weels
Hank, you should already know that you can do anything you put your mind to. You get you a project car and practice enough and eventually you will become an artisan. I think that car may make a perfect first start for you if you have any interest in building that skill. Put your mind to any task enough to build that into a skill and you can do anything you want. You just have to decide to do it and know that you will fail but fail enough times and you will become a success. Trust in yourself and in your faith. =)
That Ford uniabo dy was maid 61 62 & 63 I had a 61 long bed
That's my favorite! It's a 51 Willie's wagon!!! Where is this I'd love to try buying that whole truck! Also saw a few cool 53 56 Ford pickups and a few 76-79 f150-f250's I'd like to take home!
Awesome video, Hank. I like walking thru junk yards, too appreciate you, buddy 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks Hank in the early 70,s when I started work I couldn't afford to buy parts for my old Holden (GM) Holden was the Australian arm of GM .So I lived in the wrecking yards with most of my mates getting parts to keep our cars going ,so a walk around an American wrecking yard is gold mate anytime you find one a walk around would be good thanks mate
Cheers Kym
Adelaide
Morning hank be safe ty for adventure lol with trap throwing machine on top i thought liked ole shrame tractor
Unibodies were '61 to '63, but you could also get trucks with '59 to '60 beds, called wrong beds.
I had a '95 Explorer and the plug for the door wiring harness wore out. That was over ten years ago. Found one new/old stock at a dealership and they wanted 600 bucks for it. The mechanic found one at a junkyard for 20. That part will wear out too. But really you'd be better off going with crank windows. You'll just run into that same issue again using worn-out old electrical parts. I ended up taking that to the junkyard because it was a constant thing with electrical parts getting old and worn out - fire hazard.
1961 was the first one-piece F-series... 63 was the LAST year. 61,62 and 63.
Awesome junkyard full of great memories!
Consider yourself very fortunate to have a U Pick type junkyard available. I am in the Northeast part of the US. All the local yards we had growing up are now gone. Got to be a favorite thing to do anytime- pickin' parts! Great content- again.
I hear you.All the old time junkyards are getting weeded out.young guys aren’t into it like we were(and don’t get me wrong I still play with cars every second I’m not eating or sleeping.
The solid unibody went out in 1964. My folks bought a brand new F-150 Custom Cab short bed with a 240CI six in it and it had the cab and bed separate. I just sold it to a fellow because I was not able to bring old Sara back into decent shape. After running back and forth across the country a few times and spending time back in Illinois it contracted rust big time. Anyway, 1965 on regarding the unibody. I still remember coming home in it and the new truck smell. I do miss her for sure. Take care
You should have bought a Chevy Hank, everything is available for them.
You got that Chevy Nova information from the movie Tower Heist, lol
I suspect that the "Woody"(which it's not,a woody is made of wood) is a kaiser or a willy's station wagon
That mystery truck is a Willys Overland.
From the looks of it - there's a lot of stuff you don't know....lol.
You need to check wiring between door and jam for broke power wire from opening and closing door.
Yes, Very common problem.
I was going to say the same thing I have a 02 ford taurus ses and it had the broken wire and I did not have power for the windows fixed the wire and it fixed my problem
The random wheel ford was awesome.
'61 - '63 were the uni-body. Yes only the 3 years had that style of body lines on the box as well as a different body line through the doors.
'64 & up went to split body / box, "twin I beam", and changed body lines.
I miss my '62 Mercury M-100. I should have gotten rid of my 1st wife instead of my truck!
62’ Mercury M-100 Unibody? That sir is the holy grail, and that’s coming from someone that held out for 5yrs to find an original paint Unibody two tone in Caribbean Turquoise lol 😅
@@ChuckThree Nice color combo. I can't remember the name of mine, but it was an ivory color.
that camper caught my eye. i wish i was in your parts cuz i'd love to personally check it out. there are so many to choose from in that honey hill. i've always thought how cool it would be to have a tandem pickup. the woody is great too. hell i cant decide. so many cool relics there
The Beach boys sang about, and showed on an album cover a 1934 Ford 'woody' - the body outer panels were constructed of wood, hence the name 'woody'.
Hey where is this junkyard located?I saw a bunch of crap I need for a few projects I got going on
Love digging thru an old junk yard,,... I had an86 Bronco once .The window switches out of a T bird worked.Same switch..5 bucks with a chunk of harness too..
Hank what about a 4 door SUV exploder or expodition..
Ford's were the same from 88 to 97 for door parts and fenders the head lights and grilles were different starting in 92
Oh great video also Keep up the great work.
That Lincoln was something else, that's the way a Lincoln SHOULD look, these new cars are full of luxuries, but they don't have the sense of what real luxury is. I'm sure you can find something for your truck that will work.
Hank .. I live in upstate n.y and I can't find them older 60s f100 parts and I need some . Me and my daughter own a 61 hard body . Any info on the junkyard would be GREAT.
FORD unitized bed built 1961 to 1963 only on 2 wheel drives. 4 x 4 and F250 came with 1960 style bed. 1965 first twin I beam .
the beach boys used the iconic woody wagons. chevy made one, ford, and jeep i believe. that wagon your looking at is a jeep. the woody wagons were called "woody" because they were made of wood, at least the sides and top were. that jeep isnt a woody its just a wagoneer because it is not partly made of or even lined with wood. great show as usual. i love walking through junk yards!, at least ones like this with older and unique vehicles in it. not really any of those around here anymore.
That Lincoln Towncar was a 1979. It had the speedometer with a needle that swept the numbers. That Collector's series was the last year they made that size which was on the 126 inch wheelbase.
14.38 that truck is a awesome project
Hank how about just ordering new one from LMC truck they have everything you will need for the truck
Hank where is that junkyard located, I have a friend who would love to know.
Your Bonnie and Clyde car was built no less than 12 years after they were killed.
Hank that was very interesting. I liked the old doodle bug with the wood spoke wheels and the old jeep wagon. I don't quite understand what parts you're looking for for your truck if you have new switches.
I got the top half of the switch but i need the bottom half where the wiring hets plug into it
Ok.
Junk yards so handy when they have a lot of cars and trucks like that
That Schramm tractor is an air compressor. Fairly common years ago.
92-97 switches should be the same Hank, but if you have all 4 power windows on the switch those are a little more rare. Good luck👍
It is said in the first line of the jan and Dean song "surf city"....."I bought a '34 wagon and they call it a woody".
Thats it
The woodie you are talking about is a Willy's Jeep.
Well at least we had a glimpse of your thumbnail shot, but good look underneath the rear wheel arches might have been interesting.
Schramm 160 Pneumatractor; ( SCHRAMM was founded in 1900 by Chris Schramm to built air compressors.) Schramm built tractors were based on International Harvester frames and engines between the 1950s and 1970s. They also had some connections with Farmall. These tractors were, essentially, portable air compressor units and not designed for tillage or other typical tractor work. Although some may have been fitted with backhoes to complement the jack hammer or other air tools. Schramm no longer builds tractors or air compressors. Today, Schramm, Inc. is a privately held manufacturer of mobile, top-head hydraulic drilling rigs and related equipment for the global mining, energy, and water well industries.
I'm waiting to see if you find a 1995 Ford XL100 with the 427 engine and standard 4 speed transmission. That would be a one of a kind. It was only offered thru the dealer to selected customers.
Willis Jeep station wagon
Jusr heat up the plungers and pull it out a mm for the switches that make contact. It worked for mine on a 2006
Willys Overland Jeep
My Gramps had one of those Willy jeeps .his was like a 1952 ? Used it for snow plowing in Northeast Ohio back in the 60's and 70's
Looks like a 1959 Willy's Kaiser Wagon
1961-1963 Ford unibody pickups were made. Both F100 & F250 2 wheel drives . Not exactly Ideal unless you like doors popping open going over bumps or something.
It's a Willys Jeep wagon
Very good job and God bless yall
You and Wiley should try and crank the Schramm
👍
Cool Willys Wagon. Granddad had a 1958 Wagon: cream white and dark green.
hank you might want to look at that toyota motor home..if that is the one im thinking about, they were rare and people pay good money for them..if it is one you could always clean it up and sell it to some one else to restore..just a thought.
it's a jeepster ! What your looking for is a 93 to 97 crewcab !
Chances are you've got the typical issue with that harness. They brake wires between the door and the firewall. Unplug it behind the kick panel, pull the harness through the firewall, and rubber out of the door. Cut the tape off the rubber and slide the rubber off the harness so you can access the harness, and then you can repair the broken wire and reinstalleverything. Another issue I've run into is the door not properly grounding to the cab, which is just a matter of removing the bolts (I do one at a time unless the door needs adjustment) I've also had wire terminals break at the plug which is an easy fix as well.
Wileys Jeep Wagon
Looks like a Willy's Jeep
Hey Hank, a good junkyard has a interchange book that tells what years and models parts are interchangeable Sonetimes you have to ask them. Gord
