- This is my review on the Dolphin Quantum pool cleaning robot. This is Dolphin's new flaghip cleaner, the next generation of the Quantum model and it performs really well!
The Quantum is designed to clean your entire pool including the floors, walls, and waterline. This is a waterline cleaning beast! With Powerstream jets, the Quantum is actually able to move along the waterline to scrub it meaning more waterline coverage in less time!
One of the more user-friendly robots, it has an easy access top-loading gigantic debris canister and yes, it includes an ultra-fine filter! Love it!

The Dolphin Quantum is one of the most durable and well designed robotic pool cleaners I have ever used. I have a 15k gallon bean shaped pool with pebble tech that I only scrub once at the end of the season and once at the beginning, leaving the rest of the work to my Quantum. It power scrubbing brushes remove algae completely with every pass, and the powerful motors have no issues picking up leaves, rocks, and other debris for an entire week before being pulled out to clean. I forget it in the pool for weeks sometimes and its still running like new. The design of the robot as very clever in that it is simplicistic making it very easy to take apart and put back together for cleaning. Its been in my pool cleaning for 3 years now and I can honestly say that it runs just as well as it did when I first purchased it. From the pool pump and booster pump running 12 hours a day or more I was able to chop off 6 hours and removed the booster pump. I am saving over $200.00 dollars a month in electricity with this new setup!
Great Video!
David - in your videos you note that you use a corded and a cordless unit dependent upon need.... what is your go to corded unit? you note that you used to use the premier .. what are you grabbing now?
Believe it or not, the Premier is still my go to for the off season!
It's been years now and the Premier is still going strong.
There are other units like the Polaris VRXiq+ or the Lydsto P1 that are newer with wifi and smart features but in all reality, I rarely use those features. They also don't come with as many filter options like the Premier.
I think the Premier and CC Plus from Dolphin are some of the best corded cleaners on the market yes, even with their older models. Still works better than newer corded cleaners
Great content, thank you. I think I'm going to purchase this one. I have popups and I would like this to run when the pool pump is not running. How can I schedule to run every other day or every day, but only between 3pm-7pm?
Thank you!
On the head unit/control panel that is plugged into the outlet there is a physical timer control on it.
Press it twice to run it Every Other Day.
If you want it to run between 3pm-7pm the only way to set that up is Press the timer function during that time frame. Because it goes by an exact 24/48/60 hour timer depending on which run schedule you choose.
So if you went outside at 4pm and pressed the timer function button twice. It will turn on at that moment once, then 48 hours later at 4pm, it turns on again and runs, and then 48 hours again at 4pm it repeats for a week.
Hope that helps.
@@imdefinitelydavid Absolutely, that is helpful, thank you! What do you do if you are going on vacation for 2 weeks? The unit stops running the schedule after one week?
Yeah unfortunately it's only a weekly timer. You physically have to set it every week. They do this because technically they don't want you to leave the cleaner in the pool 24/7 and also they want you to physically take it out and empty the debris basket.
I have full width steps that lead up to a 10 3/4" deep baha ledge. Trying to find a cleaner that will climb the steps and work on the ledge. Tried a liberty 300 and it just stays in the deep end. See you reviewed a lot and watched a lot of your vids...Quantum, Scuba Pro, or Wybot look like they MAY work. Maybe you have some insight?
So you have a set of steps that lead directly to your baja shelf correct? You don't have like a side wall away from the steps the cleaner can also climb onto the ledge.
If that's the case, out of the 3 cleaners you mentioned I'd go with the Wybot.
The Quantum is good but not as many features as the other two. It also spends a lot of time moving off main drains. I find it climbs walls/steps much less often than the other two.
Scuba Pro would do well climbing I'm sure, but weight wise it's a heavy machine. Definitely feels the most premium though out of the three if you don't mind the weight and size of the pro.
I would assume you mean the wybot S2 since it's around the other two price ranges. I LOVE the S2. Literally, it does really well for the price and features. It's lightweight and climbs steps to the baja just fine.
If anything, you could buy the cleaner off amz and if it doesn't work out, return it from amz. If you buy it directly from the manufacturer website you might end up going through loops trying to return their cleaner. I haven't had issues, but other people have mentioned it.
Hope that helps!
@@imdefinitelydavid Thanks for the info. I do have an 18" wide ledge that runs down one side of the pool to the shelf. The liberty would not climb the stairs or run the ledge to the shelf. If I go Wybot I was thinking the corded L1...although the M1 with solar panel looks promising. After dealing with the Liberty, I am not a fan of charging!
I would be reluctant with the M1 because technically it's an older model now. I actually was able to try it out back then and it wasn't great at all. The L1 would be like the Nautilus CC Plus but upgraded. One thing about that L1 is that the last few times I've used it it's been iffy with the wifi connection. It didn't do this at first but as of recently its taken me a few tries to connect it when running.
Hi, thanks for reviews! I'm in the market and came down to two choices, this Quantum or The Aiper Scuba S1 Pro. They are relatively similar in price. Is there one that you would recommend over the other? Thanks!
Right now I'm loving the Scuba S1 Pro.
Aside from the main difference of being a corded vs cordless, on paper, the Scuba S1 Pro wins. It has wifi/online app with OTA updates, ultra-fine filter, and access to optional cleaning modes. All of which the Quantum doesn't have. The Quantum is a more simpler cleaner that does a good job. But at this point, it does feel a little outdated compared to the S1 Pro.
Hi, how does the Dolphin quantum compare to S200 - cleaning, motors, ultra fine filters versus nano filters
I still can’t decide what I want. Lol. I do think I want Cordero be cordless but stuck between dolphin cc plus or the quantum or something else lol.
I can understand why lol. Tons of cleaners and choices out there. One big major difference would be if you need a cleaner that has "smart" capabilites and app control. That would knock off a lot of cleaners.
So I love the quantum but I saw your review on the se auto shark and now I don’t know what to get cause there is an 800 dollar difference between them, just wondering if the shark cleans as good as the quantum
The Shark is impressive for being the price that it is. Some of the best features are the aggressive waterline cleaning AND the fact that it's a cordless cleaner. The Quantum is sort of a different type of cleaner to compare it to. It's corded for continuous power, and the major benefit of it is the Maytronics brand name. Usually associated with more dependability. I mean both cleaners have a 2 year warranty but in general, Dolphin cleaners last over 2+ years. I have a few Dolphin cleaners that are 5+ years old and still running strong. The Shark has yet to be able to be tested for so long because it's a newer company. But honestly, for an 800 dollar savings, you could buy another 2 more Sharks later on if they did break down lol.
My Quantum seems to have difficulty picking up leaves. It was ok at first now leaves get jammed at the entry of the basket. If anyone has any ideas.
Sounds like a clog. If the filters are clean I would take a look at the impeller. It's really easy to access. Open the top lid and you'll see two screws on the plate under it. Take those two off and pull the plate back along the cord. And there will be another plate, take that off and clean out all the debris you see inside the impeller. Most of the time a twig gets stuck there and clogs it up. Good luck!
Will the Quantum work in an hard sided above ground pool?
Yup. I'm sure it would work really well for a hard sided above-ground 👍
Own the Cayman; it does not scrub waterline. Now you can purchase a nano filter upgrade on line.
Do the ultra fine filters put additional pressure on the impeller motor?...just interested in understanding if this will impact the lifespan
The ultra-fine filter doesn't use MORE power than a fine filter does. Uses the same BUT, sometimes it will look like the cleaner is moving slower or not able to climb walls/ledges.
This is normal for any cleaner with an ultra-fine filter though. Sometimes there's a noticeable difference, sometimes not. It may look like it's moving slower but it's because it uses more of the same amount of power to filter debris through a thicker filter.
It shouldn't have any effect on the general lifespan of a cleaner. Hope that makes sense!
I think I have officially watched all of your YT videos on robotic pool cleaners. Your reviews are awesome, but I am having trouble settling on a robot. I have a 35000 gal/40’ vinyl lined pool. What robot do you recommend in the $1000 range? I am not partial to corded or wireless. I would like to be able to leave the unit in the pool a week at a time for probably three cleans. Any help would be much appreciated!!!
Thank you for the views!
There are a ton of cleaners on the market and it gets overwhelming at times. One thing that does stand out is that you have a 35k gallon pool so you will want to stick to cleaners designed for bigger pools.
For the price range, two very good corded cleaners with weekly timers to look at would be the Dolphin Quantum and the Dolphin CC Pro.
For cordless, look at the Wybot S2(my current favorite) and the Aiper Scuba S1 Pro. Both are designed to handle larger pools and have weekly timers.
@@imdefinitelydavid thank you for the response. based on your initial review of the WYBOT and Aiper, I went with the WYBOT. Unfortunately I have had it for about a week and I tend to only get one clean per charge. It causes me to have to pull, clean, charge and repeat. This could be due to the robot spending an unnecessary amount of time on my bottom drain. I plan to run it for the rest of the week, but will be looking to your recommendations for “corded” if I am not confident in the S2.
The one charge is when you use a cleaning mode like Standard Mode correct? Because it's designed to run once on those modes and to use up a majority of the battery depending on which mode it is.
The Cycle mode is when you can change the cycle and it should turn on itself through the week. That's where it should be dividing the battery up among the days it runs.
Can the quantum do inground deep end and shallow end pool
It's rated to go as deep as 16 feet and as low as 2.5 feet. So I would assume it wouldn't have any issues.
@@imdefinitelydavid good deal thank you much!
Hi! This may be a dumb question, but when the quantum got stuck on the main drain, can’t I just move it myself if it gets stuck or will that ruin it? I just figured it would be ok to help it along if I noticed it.
Oh you can move it no problem. It won't affect the navigation or anything. It's just that it should be designed to get itself off. For times when you leave the cleaner in the pool and go about your day and come back to it. I'd be upsetting if it was stuck on the drain for 2 to 3 hours instead of cleaning the rest of the pool
Hi! Do any of the robotic cleaners you have reviewed work on the water line/walls of vinyl liner, in-ground pools? Thanks!
Vinyl lined pools are tough to figure out because they're usually all custom and built differently. You don't want a very strong/aggressive waterline scrubbing robot in this case because of the risk of breaking down the vinyl. You're more better off with a cleaner that cleans up the wall UP to the waterline and then backs down. So it touches the waterline but doesn't aggressively scrub it. Off the top of my head, the Nautilus CC Plus does that well
Another robotic cleaner that comes to mind, if you're considering a cordless one, is the Dolphin Liberty 200. That also cleans up to the waterline and doesn't aggressively scrub it.
@@imdefinitelydavid Thank you for the fast response and the advice!
Do you plan on purchasing the Aiper Surfer S1 Cordless Robotic Pool Skimmer when it’s released? I’m considering purchasing it due to being able to charge it as well. I like your review of the Betta SE Solar Powered Smart Robotic Pool Skimmer.
Glad I could help. And yes! I've been waiting for the Surfer ever since I heard about it lol. The Betta is awesome except I can't use it during winter months. The ability to charge the Surfer will change the whole game! I contacted Aiper over a month ago about the Surfer and didn't actually have a set release date unfortunately.
I actually just got a response from an associate at Aiper and they plan on releasing the Surfer in early December. Very excited for it!
Silly question, but is the blue cord a power cord?
Not silly! And yes, it is. This is a corded cleaner.
Does it climb your stairs, clean the top of the stairs, and the top of the Baja? Or does it stick to the main pool area?
It occasionally climbs up to the very top ledge of my pool to clean it. A majority of the time it will stay in the main area though.
Thanks for reply! Would you say the sigma does a better job than quantum going up to ledges and stairs? Or same? (I had a sigma for 30 days and returned it, it did an ok job on ledges) now deciding to either get this or buy the sigma again. I tried the aiper seagull pro and even the beatbox aqua sense pro (new) and the sigma was way better.
I would say the Sigma does a better job on the ledge than the Quantum does lol. Which isn't great since you returned that. Have you considered the Premier? I actually think the Premier does better than the Sigma does and it's actually built in a similar design. But the Premier doesn't have wifi or app control if that's important to you.
Also, the new version of the Aiper Seagull is the Scuba S1 and that climbs well on my ledge. There's actually a Pro version of the S1 that should be released soon with online app and ultra-fine filter as well. And it'll be less expensive than the Sigma. And yes, the Beatbot aquasense pro isn't a specifically great cleaner for one area, it only excels in the fact that it's a good cleaner for multiple areas in one machine lol.
The cordless vacuums seem to have less suction. I was hoping the Beatbot would be stronger at that price point. I’ll be returning that as well.
The sigma i would even throw into my spa and it would clean the entire thing. These other “smart” ones don’t clean the ledges because they think the seats are the waterline.
Removing the robot and charging it also becomes annoying after a while. I think best bang for buck was the aiper seagull pro. I wish it would just continue up onto the ledges.
What’s the best robot out there? Bottom line? Sigma and premier?
Poolbots has the sigma for around $1,300.
What are your thoughts on the Seauto Shark vs Dolphin Quantum? I have watched all of your videos but these are the two I am deciding on.. Let me know! Cyber Monday sales will end today! Thanks David.
Two very good cleaners! But very different. I would consider the debris type and amount of debris you get. The Shark is a crazy good valued cleaner. The best feature of the Shark is definitely the aggressive waterline cleaning. But the Shark struggles against big sized debris. The inlet to suck up debris measures in at 5.25" so if you get giant leaves in the pool it won't work well. But if you have normal sized debris it'll work perfectly fine. If you get a lot of debris as well you have to consider the time you'll take recharging the cleaner and running it again. That's a downside to all cordless cleaners. The Quantum won't have that issue. Also, if you're looking at smart capabilites then the Shark is limited. The Quantum doesn't have wifi or app control either but you don't necessarily need to use an app for it to work well. In general, a more basic pool with a normal amount of debris, the Shark wins, value wise. Otherwise, the safe bet would be the more expensive Quantum lol
@@imdefinitelydavid Thanks for the response. Our pool build was completed two weeks ago, and we have palms/pine trees shadowing the pool. Seems like the Quantum would be the better purchase for attempting to grab those needles, yeah? The Betta Skimmer was delivered today, so I have that covering surface debris. Wondering if the Betta + Shark would be a solid combo.. Seems like the Betta isn't having any issues grabbing pine needles.
Oh yes for sure! I have a similar setup with redwoods surrounding my pool. The Quantum has that larger inlet for debris and a bigger canister too. Congrats on the Betta! It'll definitely lower the amount of cleaning time. Hopefully you get enough sun to charge it and your trees aren't shading the pool/sunlight
@@imdefinitelydavid Thank you! I decided to order the Shark for $450 (with tax) during the Amazon Cyber Monday deals. Figure I'll give it a try and if it doesn't work, I'll return it and grab the Quantum. I appreciate your insight.
Sure np! You got a great combo there with the Betta and Shark. Actually, anything in combination with the Betta makes life easier imo. Let me know how it works for you!
Bluetooth??
Doesn't have bluetooth or online app unfortunately. It's a simple plug-n-play cleaner that works well but no smart features
Just got one last week. “Eventually it gets off the drain cover”. Yes but the robot spent almost 40 minutes of its 2 hour cycle on my four drain covers. Not good!!!
I agree. For the price of this cleaner it should move more freely across the main drain. I mean, it works great, but depending on how high your main drain is the longer it stays stuck. Your drain must be higher than mine.
