Yessss!!! So much yes!! THIS GAME frustrated me sooooo much as a kid because I NEVER knew where to go! For my last birthday I got myself an NES and hunted down this game to try n tackle it yet again! Thank you for posting this... It's one of those games that completely confused you, yet you kept playing and playing it. Love it Thank you
I was bought this game as a kid because of the cool cartridge artwork, but the characters in the game looked nothing like it. I often found myself stuck, but I kept coming back to it convinced I'd eventually figure it out. Thanks for sharing this video!
Something about this game always captured my imagination. The soundtrack was great for one; but at 6 years old in 1987, I couldn't help but wonder how they built the giant castle structures seen in the background so far underground. The whole idea of this massive underground world a mile or 2 deep with fortress like buildings you'd normally see above ground. -- Just something as simple as that made this game one I've thought about over the last 30 years
i came here for the soundtrack. Funny, havent thought of this game in about 22 years, and the music popped in my head. Never understood the game itself
Forget Ninja Gaiden or Battletoads, THIS was the hardest game on the NES. It was hard enough just mapping out that maze, but all the hidden blocks and falls that made you lose tons of progress just made it impossible. On top of that, you had to figure out which areas went with each family member. Then you had to plan out each boss run with strategic item equipping, inn resting, and item swapping on the way. And then you had to grind for gold to get all that (something that perfect speed runs gloss over). I can't even begin to imagine how many hours it would take for someone to figure that all out. I tried beating this game for 3 years. All I could do was find the special items for each family member. I never found a single crown. I eventually got a guide with a full map of the dungeon and each family member's route. I STILL couldn't beat even one of the crown bosses (which are insanely hard if you're not exploiting hit detection like all the speed runs do). I just wish it wasn't so astronomically impossible to the point that over 99% of people who owned it never beat it. The concept was so cool: a Dark Souls (or Bard's Tale, if you're old enough) dungeon crawler version of Super Mario 2.
I haven't thought about this game for 20 years. I finally got around to organizing my rom catalog using the LaunchBox frontend. I was just skimming through my digital NES collection with its box art glory. I saw "Legacy of the Wizard" box, and nostalgia just hit me like a truck. I clicked on it and the theme just auto played. Man oh man. 20 yrs may have passed but as soon as I heard that theme, I was just transported back in time and remembered every note. Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but I never see this soundtrack on any best 8bit music lists. It has to be underappreciated.
That's how I was when I was just a little kid renting this game. I sucked at it, but I kept on renting it when I could. Eventaully, I did something right, and slowly but surely was able to get through the game. Took awhile though to learn, but I felt quite pleased with myself when I beat it for the first time.
Great job! I've always loved this game but I've never been able to complete it. Watching this was like an old epic movie that reminded me of times when I was younger. Thank you, this has inspired me to play it again.
Thank you for the kind comment. Jeremy would have been pleased you read you opinion. Tomorrow, 20 Feb, it will be 3 years. It is just so hard to believe it has been that long. I still miss him so much every day, and there are still frequent tears. Jeremy's dad
Well, I don't really advertise my stuff, which might explain why they don't get too many views. I don't have facebook (I refuse to sign up for it), but I'm sure if I did, I could get a bunch more. I also don't go around to different websites and tell people about my videos. Again, I'm sure if I did, I'd get more views. But I get new subscribers every day, so I must be doing something right.
i torchered myself with this game when it came out..NEVER could figure anything out and would just walk around for what seemed for hours..THEN I would turn it off and think.."ok..i got nowhere"..its one of those games that haunts me to this day..
I got this game one year and a friend took it, but I’ve forgotten the games name after so long. I have it in great condition now, ofc I got it back lol. I can’t believe I randomly found it on here. Thanks.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Jeremy would have been glad to know a fan of the old games had watched, and especially happy to hear he had been some help. Thank you for the kind wishes. Jeremy’s dad
This game was so hard to beat. I played it for years and couldn't beat it. I bought a nintendo and the game to beat it. WIthout the hints from the internet I don't know if I would be able to beat it still yet it's nowhere on the hardest NES games list. IT should be. I have two codes with 3 crowns... one with the dad to get the final crown and the girl to get the final crown. I tried to beat ROckgea with the girl and couldn't and the dad and couldn't....now I know the girl can reach the 4th boss from the top whereas the dad can not reach him. I'm going to beat it now..THANKS!!
So,basically in Legacy of the Wizard, each hero: a young girl,a grown woman,a young boy,and a grown man, each have to fulfill their sorcery training by going underground and slaying monsters. Including slaying a Dragon using a Sword that you have to find to make their master,The Wizard proud? God,I played this as a kid and I couldn't make any sense out of it.
Alright, another awesome Mog video! Hope you are doing better these days! It would be nice if G4 TV would put some of your longplays on their website. They are really well done and are on some pretty great games that came in under the radar.
I'd imagine so. Never did beat it as a kid either, but it was one of those games that slowly but surely you work your way towards the end after Buddha knows how many attempts....One of those games that gives you a nice feeling of accomplishment when you do finally beat it.
ionfalcom1 I can send you my copy of the game for 5 bucks!! thats what I paid for it...at least when I beat it.. I had to watch how to beat the Rockgea bad guy again. I wasted all my magic in about 4 attempts. I realized after watching this again it's because I was not close enough to the edge of the cliff to hit him!!!
wasnt there a weird glitch in this game where u can walk thru walls with the pink character? ive been lookin for this game forever! me and my brothers would play this game for hours and hours.
It might sound stupid, but how do you destroy white blocks like in 23:31. I bought nemco volume 2 on steam and trying to play this game using xbox 360 controller, I always destroy the blocks accidentally but can't figure out how to do it
@@russelldillon2645 That was it thanks. Managed to finally beat this game year later with the help of this guide, so thank you too Jeremy. Even though you're gone you're still helping people
DId anyone beat this as a kid? I may have gotten 1 crown..pochi's but IDK. I don't think I even knew the right sections of the dungeon to search with each character as a kid!!
I confess that all your videos, watch several still missing yet. I like all the SNES, GENESIS everyone and all the Game Boy But honestly not really like NES, was born in 1992 and my first video game was a SNES then I am big fan of him. I was thinking in two videos for your channel, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country 3. Makes a walkthrough them when you can, ok? Thank you =)
god i hated this game and forgot about it. thats one of the things i miss about the nes, the frustration for not knowing what to do. in so many modern games they hold your hand so much compared to the nes days.

I swear I'm not retarded. I'm typing this on an iPod and someone is trying to FaceTime me and its screwing up my posts! I was trying to say I had this game when I was 6 and couldn't get more than 15 mins into the game. I had no idea what to do or where to go. The difficulty raised per boss you fought, so you had you balance that by defeating the most dangerous bosses first. This game was nice, but a high level of fuckery. I needed to read up on how up summon the final dragon boss. Who can tell me they figured it out without reading up on it?

I'm right there with you, it's almost impossible to beat this game without a guide.
My sentiments exactly and I played it till I was 14 and a hurricane destroyed my NES

I do plan on doing those eventually. Not sure when though.
