Man, Cybertron was really an incredible line that I REALLY regret not getting more of when it was in the stores, that has to be the part I hate the most of teen me, the whole "I'm too old for toys, I gotta leave that behind" that I was in until Movie Overcast saved me and brought me back.
This toyline was great not just because of the designs, but also for the actual plastic quality, these were DENSE toys.

Sometimes I'm still so impressed with the quality of the Cybertron molds. I never really had any of them as a kid, so when I've picked up a few here and there, I'm honestly stunned a figure THIS old is.... well this old. Some of these figures are frankly better engineered than some modern figures.

Hey TJ, long time viewer here. These couple toyline Tier lists you've made are my favorite videos of yours. You have so much accumulated knowledge, experience, and appreciation for all these transformers toylines, and you talk about them; which is something you have that is unique: very few people have that on the youtube platform right now. These cybertron toys are not the talk of the town, and might never be again, but they exist and are the product of so much creativity and ingenuity.
As a kid, I experienced the unicron trilogy as my first step into the world of transformers, and I lived in a country where finding the damn toys was hard enough, and they cost twice what you'd pay for in america at the time once you did find any! I had this burning desire to one day collect these incredible toys of unmatched quality one day. As an adult now, I just might have the resources to go back and fulfill these ambitions. I loved Plastic addict and any videos you did discussing your love for specific toys and toylines back in the day, and I loved this tierlist today.
I wish you best of luck with your youtube channel! I will be here watching your videos as they release 👌💪🦾

So glad Sideways is in Holy Grail, which it damn well should be. It's one of the few Cybertron figures I had from when I was a kid that's still in good condition. Hips and shoulders are a little loose, but nothing I can't tighten up myself in due time. Such a brilliant feat of engineering.

I love this entire line, each one has character to them that was hasn't been done ever again and growing up I wish I begged my parents to buy these toys while they were still up on shelves but that only happened after the live action movie came out so it was kinda late. Watching through the Brave Series I can see so much influence from that in this line such as Hotshot taking cues from many Braves that had car modes with the hood splitting in half to become the shoulders, Jetfire is very similar to Jumbo Saber most seen with the turbines making the shoulders and arms, Leobreaker of course is very Goldymarg and well that stuff kinda stuck around in future Takara through sheer coincidence where a robot becomes a giant arm/hand for the mecha like coincidentally Devil Gigatron can combine with God Fire Convoy to give him a giant Devil God hand then there's Goldion Armor granting Final GaoGaiGar a forearm the size of its body.
I personally loved Soundwave due to his design looking super elegeant and vampire like which I think is something Cybertron did SUPREMELY well giving every characters distinctive silhouettes using "kibble" to resemble things like capes, armor or built in weaponry which I wish more transformers did, instead of REVILING kibble use it to add to the silhouette to give CHARACTER to the design. it's a shame Leobreaker had cost cutting done the prototype looked epic

Sideways, Voyager Starscream, Hot Shot, Cybertron Defense Scattorshot, Evac, Red Alert, and of course Optimus were always my favorites. It always irked me how wide Override was. It just looks off. Longrack beats the hell out of Armada Hoist. I still need to get a blue Scrapmetal. I did get the exclusive "Coby bot" finally. Been one of my grails since I was a kid. This is the first line I really went hard into collecting.

  • @Badwolfwho1
    @Badwolfwho1 2 года назад +5

I'm trying to get a complete Cybertron line and of the ones I've already got I broadly agree. I'd put Supreme Starscream higher in Holy Grail personally since that was literally my most wanted Transformer of all, but admittedly that's a personal thing because not only do I love Starscream in general so of course I must have the biggest Starscream but also I love Cybertron Starscream especially so of course I'll overrate his figure. The Leobreaker Mold I rate higher because I just love that dumb arm mode especially putting it on Tidal Wave. Soundwave I love even if the transformation is a bit tough I love both the vehicle and the robot mode and being a bomber is such a neat idea for a Soundwave to give him transforming bombs instead of cassette.

I think Soundwave got (a bit) more flak than it deserves. I would definitely place him above the hipless Scattorshot for example. All the complaints leveled at him are entirely fair, I just think that despite the flaws it does look good in both modes and has a solid gimmick, plus Lazerbeak's ability to perch on the tip of Soundwave's wing looks awesome. Won't debate what a pain it is to get him between those two modes though, or how clunky his articulation is, so he's definitely in the right tier, could just be a few notches higher within that tier, at least in my opinion.

I feel Thunderblast gets too bad of a rap just because of her backpack and being a shell former, but ignoring that fact she is the only figure in this line that was designed to be a fembot (and a boat of that, think she still os the only boat fembot) but the core robot has above average transfomation for that era: waist swivel and double jointed elbows? That is surprising for her.

I discovered the treasure of Cybertron molds by 2007, with the "movie" Walmart exclusives (that were intended for Universe originally), I got the redecos of Hot Shot, Downshift and Red Alert, they were perfect. Later, Universe released redecos of Cybertron Defense Scattorshot, Cybertron Defense Hot Shot, and Voyager Starscream, and I also ended up loving those, and those 6 molds ended up being some of my favorites ever, as well as some of the most brilliant redeco choices ever.
Unfortunately, I also got to meet the messy Thundercracker mold via a redeco, and the nightmarish Brushguard mold, worst arm articulation ever.

The cybertron demolishor I would put low retail or high bargain bin. The colours are alright and for an armada figure he posed really well but the cyber key kills it.
armada demolishor has the minicon launch and missile launch gimmick which worked fine but the cybertron repaint uses a cyber key instead of the minicon in the same way. Buzzsaw remoulded the arms so the key works like the other figures but they didn’t do that for demolishor which drags it down cause there’s no minicon and no key slot it’s just the peg

I have mixed feelings about Megatron. As a robot/toy he is amazing. But my problem is that he just doesn't feel like Megatron. I feel he should have been a different character.

Agradecería que pongas imágenes del producto mientras explicas la figura, eso haría el vídeo menos aburrido.

How can I go home happy-
When you called Shortround "Undertow"? >:(
Jk jk, nice video. Love to see it.
Personally I'd have Thunderblast higher up as she really isn't that bad. She has good articulation, the stuff in her back has a hinge for a bit more back movement on the legs and it serves as a figure stand for pretty dynamic poses. I like her open hands as it gives her a very different feel from most transformers. Definitely gives a lot of karate vibes and oozes femininity. I'm AMAZED that she can even hold that missile launcher the way she does, so she's feminine and she looks pretty strong despite that. The colours are nice and the speedboat mode is slick. Even if she's a shell-former, she annoys me far less than AOE Galvatron. Because he's a shell former and his shell completely throws off the badass hole in his torso. Where as with Thunderblast the kibble makes her look like an ocean princess. Her overall design with her helmet and matrix-looking chest is nice. And it works great for Elita-1 as well, giving her a sort of Fairy/cyber-Angel type look.
But hey, that's just me. We all have opinions and I'm happy that you shared yours man. Keep up the great content and I hope you have a good one!

7:44 Nooooooo not my waifu. In fairness, this is about the toys and I never owned her toy. But I do love her design and her character in the show. I do wish she got a new toy. Maybe do something similar to what they did with SS Scourge.

I'm curious as to why you said no Armada remolds yet have Runamuck in there.
Also, I disagree. Blurr belongs in Flea Market. Not Runamuck.
Why? He's got more playability than Blurr.

I literally said it in the video I accidentally left Runamuck in. Originally the Armada remolds and the Beast Wars 10th repaints were in this, but it was already such a long list I decided to take them out.

I wouldn't have put Optimus Prime that high. The super mode doesn't actually change his look that much, he basically just gets slightly taller, wings, and a flight pack. It's better than the Energon version but I think RID2001 and Armada had better super modes. The vehicle mode is great but the robot mode is just a bit boring. I also don't like the fact that Leobreaker and Wing Saber can't both be combined at the same time it's either one or the other. So that puts him down on my list for me. He'd still be the Holy Grail just further down on the Holy Grail.
Wing Saber... oddly as a stand alone character I like the Energon design more... even though the combiner gimmick really hurts that figure. The Cybertron version I'm not a big fan of the design on his own but I do actually really like the combined mode. I consider him a Holy Grail just because of the combined mode but he'd be on the low end of that.
Overhaul I would put higher. I was always kind of impressed how they designed him to Foreshadow Leobreaker considering he's NOT a Beastformer yet but the Leobreaker elements still weirdly work for that design. He'd be up at retail... but low end.
Leobreaker himself... and I'm also considering Nemesis Breaker here... I like that the mold can combine with both Optimus and Megatron. Oddly he actually worked better as a figure on his own cause the savage Claw Mode doesn't really look that good. It's fine from a front on view but from a side view there's just a huge gap in the arm. He's up there in Premium for me, like just below Wing Saber.
Megatron I just wanted to point out that his paint job and his over all design is based on Unicron. The Bio even pointed out that Megatron used parts of Unicron to create this new upgraded body. Galvatron actually kind of loses that, the molding is still there but he loses all of the Unicron colors.
Metroplex I agree isn't a great vehicle mode. It just looks his robot mode in the fetal position... but he is suppose to be an excavator and it's pretty accurate to the actual vehicle it's based on.
Soundwave I would put on the high end of retail release because I love that design, that's one of my favorite Soundwaves. It's much better than just making him a van. The only part I don't like is that Laserbeak transforms into a BOMB... so Laserbeak should realistically only have one use and then die.
Thunderblast I'm going to disagree the most on. Sure she's a shell former that wears her entire vehicle mode on her back but she also has I think the best articulation in a time when a lot of Transformers were just BRICKS, he gimmick is contained to a weapon accessory unlike a lot of other figures in that line that ended up being hindered by their gimmicks. And... I'm a sucker for aquatic Transformers so it's hard for me not to like a boat. She'd be up some where in the middle of retail for me.
Lugnutz I would also put higher on the list. Very low end of Retail. He does have ugly shoulder kibble but he's a motorcycle... Motorcycle transformers have always had to sacrifice some where. Ransack end up super skinny and also has giant shoulders. Lugnutz actually manages to be proportionate in both modes which is something we'd almost never seen a motorcycle Transformer do at that time. There have been better ones done since then but at the time I was really impressed with how that made that figure work. Motorcycles don't have a lot of bulk to turn into a robot so it's always impressive when they manage to get a half way decent robot one of one.
Brimstone I would of put in Flea Market... The Beast Mode looks OKish but that robot mode... The placement of the wings makes no sense, he has a super huge chest that goes into a really tiny mid section and legs. Scrawny little arms that are just his beast mode legs. He has a really simple transformation. His color scheme is weird mix of super bright and super muted colors. I just do not like the look of this thing.

I'd argue this is the best designed Super Mode we've seen since RID2001 since it has articulation and an incredible silhouette and who doesn't love giant underslung cannons. Soundwave I agree with though Laserbeak being a bomb... I think the show foreshadowed that Soundwave and those who share his design deployed countless number from the chest due to an invasion of what seemed like thousands of them with no other planet X transformers in sight despite seeing that the invasion had more than just laserbeak drones so it's more like dropping drones that then bombarded with a hailstorm of laser fire so that's actually a really scary idea which I kinda wish was expanded upon. Aquatic transformers are a rarity so THunderblast being there as a novelty should put her higher. Personally I like Brimstone's design though the wings could go for a better placement but I overall like the silhouette he has

23:07 IMO Energon Six Shot, Energon Unicron, Energon Dreadwing, RID 2001 Galvatron and Armada Galvatron > Cannonball
