These guys are just incredible musicians i was so stoked to see em on this series!!!! Props to Bobby for that Barrington Levy album, Murderer is a SLAPPER of a track.
These guys have great chops as musicians and it's so cool to see their musical interests. Being a student of all music I think helps you become a well rounded musician. Much respect for these cats!
Even after decades of dedicated searching and listening, it just amazes me and depresses me when discovering what I missed. What a shame that all of these bands didn't get equal time on air.
Very cool, these guys are so much on the same plain as myself (being an older dude from NYC area)... trippy prog, Patti Smith, of course Bad Brains...PS the best reggae show on the radio right now Saturday's KPCC Riverside Cali college radio
VERY proud of this band, i wish people were in the know then as they are now...SUPPORT DEATH....SUPPORT ARTISTS, it is not how it use to be in the record industry, BUY THEIR VINYL, and if possible DIRECTLY FROM THEM...as with any other artists you are into many times it is now possible to buy directly through their bandcamps or facebook. they deserve it !! yes DEATH the metal band of the same name i have loved for 30 years also, but this band is STILL PLAYING !!!! AMAZING! and they are incredibly influential also, from the mid 70s! HIGHLY recommened and prolific band here
This is absolutely one of my fav WIMBs. Legends and they don't even know it. The first time I heard their music and heard about their story I was instantly fascinated. These guys are cooler than a yeti's ass. I watch this like once a year.
That's great that they knew about The Clash back in the day. A Death/Clash tour would have been awe inspiring. And for the record, Kings Of Leon are all related. The lead guitarist is a cousin, the others are brothers.
***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH***CLASH. Lee Perry anyone?
was a cool time that their movie a band called death, searching for the sugarman and sound city came out all around the same time. watched them as in flight movies and hard to not associate them in mind.
That's cool that he's into Patti Smith. Their album and Horses are the closest to sounding punk without actually being it. It makes sense that they listened to a lot of white rock music because they really come from that place in music. I wonder how many punk artists actually heard their work. They were more punk than Patti.
these guys need to be in more interview movies, they are from a very special generation of detroit music that is really last of an era of black dominance in rock and roll, there is alot of great black rock acts but their wealth of knowledge about a city ready to die and a scene stolen out from under the originators really needs to documented as much as possible.
I smoked pot and jammed with these cats in the Yukon, we're all from Detroit! I had heard Death was coming and thought it was the metal band, like most. Anyone know who owns the rights to that name or does neither have it trademarked?
This band has been around since 1972. They went through a lot, being black guys who went against the norm as a Detroit group that didn't do Motown songs. They also were told by Columbia records that they wouldn't be signed unless they changed their name, and had more $ dangled in front of them. They stuck to their guns cause Dennis had a vision of their hard work & innovation paying off. When Dennis died it was a severe blow to the family, but they know that he would've been overjoyed by the world finally appreciating their music. With regards to Chuck S, I'm pretty sure that he would've been okay with sharing the same band name. Great minds think alike! They're probably somewhere it the Rock Universe jammin together :)
+chris kendrick People give them a lot of shit, but outside of their singles, in the albums there is a sincere heart to it lacking in the music of their time. What's wrong with 4 dudes sitting down, smoking some pot, barely knowing there instruments, and making some tunes. I mean, like em or not, they're not posers. They write their songs, they sing about feelings and things beyond the scope of average pop music, they kick it up to 11 sometimes, and know how to play in front of an audience. Seriously dude, I don't know why people give them shit. Sure they aren't black flag or something like that, but I can't find a legit reason people hate these guys other than, "I heard cool people hate kings of Leon so I hate them too", which... I think is an incredibly poser thing to do.
Man, the more I watch Amoeba's videos the more I think "Fuck, I know nothing about music"
The more we make the more we feel the same way.
hell yeah King Crimson and ELP these guys know good music.
These dudes are fucking LEGENDS!
Saw these guys play the Rickshaw in Vancouver a couple weeks ago. Amazing show!!
They need to be heard more. Love it
One of the best from this series!
He picked Patti Smith. Even more respect for these guys. They rule!
definitely should watch the documentary "a band called death" if u haven't already
ruclips.net/video/_btNuWoUN30/видео.html A Band Called DEATH!
So this is the route Death took when Chuck died
Yep they got a time machine and went back in time to make proto punk
These guys are just incredible musicians i was so stoked to see em on this series!!!! Props to Bobby for that Barrington Levy album, Murderer is a SLAPPER of a track.
I love to hear artists talk about art. Great shit!
These guys have great chops as musicians and it's so cool to see their musical interests. Being a student of all music I think helps you become a well rounded musician. Much respect for these cats!
Even after decades of dedicated searching and listening, it just amazes me and depresses me when discovering what I missed. What a shame that all of these bands didn't get equal time on air.
fuck yeah. legends.
King Crimson and Emerson, Lake and Palmer? Awesome!
Wish they would've had Liquid Swords in their bags.
Jimi M Everyone should have Liquid Swords in their bags.
awesome guys...they keep the history of music alive.
These guys are true music scholars!
I love death ! Great music ,they deserve respect
Very cool, these guys are so much on the same plain as myself (being an older dude from NYC area)... trippy prog, Patti Smith, of course Bad Brains...PS the best reggae show on the radio right now Saturday's KPCC Riverside Cali college radio
Killer band!!! I'm glad they can have fun with it again. I wish their brother was still around to experience it, but those are the breaks.
The best "bag" of all the videos that I have seen.
Love KC, ELP, JT
*I didn't know that they were the original band called Death
Where's Chuck Schuldiner?
he dead
they secretly murdered him because he was white
This is the original Death band.
Am I the only person that likes both of these bands?
nope, i love both bands to!
Perfect description given on that Steely Dan "Royal Scam" album.
My favorite one so far
They knows about music, very cool..
A band knows music how surprising
punk and reggae go hand in hand because lots of seminal English punk bands grew up in public housing blocks that were mixed race :)
This is absolutely one of my fav WIMBs. Legends and they don't even know it. The first time I heard their music and heard about their story I was instantly fascinated. These guys are cooler than a yeti's ass. I watch this like once a year.
Good stuff, Interesting comments. Love these guys!!

9 years and I’m just now finding out that (Detroit) Death has an episode of WIMB. I feel like a failure.
these guys are so cool
was a cool time that their movie a band called death, searching for the sugarman and sound city came out all around the same time. watched them as in flight movies and hard to not associate them in mind.
Three great docs. I'd recommend the story of anvil and Last days here. You won't be disappointed
These guys are great, glad they finally got their due, too bad it had to be long after Chuck died. Their music tastes are great too.
not surprising they have killer taste.
IN THE COURT OF THE CRIMSON KIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING
Because of the Times was the last great KOL record
Light years ahead of their time!
Keep on running so sick
The episode with Sara Silverman program brought me here.
These guys are the real deal
You gives me prog rocks..
I gives you likes !
this was an awesome one love death
Oh shit death I didnt expect prog or patti smith. Good episode.
Very cool dudes

Finally some reggae on What's In My Bag.
Not bad, but I thought it was the other Death band.
me too
I thought it was the metal band Death lol
you guys know they aren't really a band anymore...
We know, but it could still have been Death To All, but yea we probably saw the title and got excited without thinking about it
I was squinting at the thumbnail like, "Yeah, it's probably them".
fucking legends
LEGENDSSSSSSSSSSSS
YOOOOO they have great fucking taste man
I smoked pot and jammed with these cats in the Yukon, we're all from Detroit! I had heard Death was coming and thought it was the metal band, like most. Anyone know who owns the rights to that name or does neither have it trademarked?
nice picks!
He likes Barrrington. I bet he 's down with the scientist and lee perry
I actually first though that the first record they have picked up was "Human" by Death
I think you should put links to their music choices in this interview.
In our more current episodes we list all of their picks in the video descriptions and provide links to everything that we list.
FYI: Visiting Amoeba is currently on my bucket list just so you know. I hope someday to make a pilgrimage!
there's only ONE death! hail Chuck! RIP.
This band has been around since 1972. They went through a lot, being black guys who went against the norm as a Detroit group that didn't do Motown songs. wasn't dennis that died , was david
would’ve been interesting if they picked up the bad brains album
Just becauae Bad Brains are black with dreads?
kings of leon?! really?
+chris kendrick People give them a lot of shit, but outside of their singles, in the albums there is a sincere heart to it lacking in the music of their time. kings of leon is brutal though.
16 people were expecting the other band Death....
Seem real nice people. Respect Death. Me an you could be friends.
Roots Reggae!!
Why is this blocked?
damn it .... i thought DEATH the tampa's death metal band
sigit666 This is the original Death, champ.
Because of the Times is a great album. I’m a bigger fan of the output pre Sex on Fire.
😎
Detroit the best music
Def
Blocked due to copyright.
Why are they all wearing sunglasses? To look cool?
To hide their eyes
Hmmm I wonder 🌳
:)
There is so much deeper in all genres. Look for the stuff that's not on the radio.
Doesn't sound like they're really pink fans.
That aint Death :/
This is not DEATH.
+fumeres I fell for it too, dude lol
+fumeres This is the punk band Death not the Death metal band Death. These guys were first. However, they are both death.
This is a 70s proto-punk band named Death.
Chuck S was 10 years too late for the name Death, too bad for him
YungGaijin Hmmmm whatever, this "Death" don't have classic albums, don't have a legacy .... just another forgotten band.
Dudes definitely weren’t a punk band, despite the creative attempt at history revisionists to make the claim.
